democrats could be in. i've been talking to so many supporters of hillary, so many democrats over the past week and a half and they're just shaking their heads saying they don't know what's going on and don't know what's wrong with hillary and bernie sanders cannot be the nominee. they are going through what the republicans have been going through for six months. >> i think this will be good for hillary. the wrap on hillary, it's carbonation. so the fact that she's going to have to go a couple of rounds and particularly against sanders although he's an appealing guy. >> she's losing by 27 points in new hampshire. >> we're going into the south where it's going to change even if he wins the first two.

>> i saw bernie sander's rally in alabama. i haven't seen anywhere approaching that number of people at any hillary clinton rally. >> i don't think anybody can tell you what the world looks like if sanders wins the first two states. he has the momentum. i think that might be why you see this. she needs opportunities to kind of write her ship and reassert the primacy she has. she's far more likelily than sanders to be the nominee. bill clinton was as good as i've seen him in years. he may be what saves his wife in new hampshire or iowa. he's trying to figure out to feel what's the right frame to take sanders down and stop his momentum. >> i disagree with mark on bill clinton. i saw him the other day and

mentioned a couple of weeks ago, he use to be the big day and now there's a gient republican level barking. clinton seems old and seems yesterday. i do not see that same magic out there. >> bill clinton and donald trump are the same age. i don't know if you saw amy's piece but talking about how bill's problems from the 1990s were impacting hillary with the younger women voters right now.

between trump and rubio, trump is seen as the better choice the beat clinton 47-22%. with new hampshire voting, in 19 days trump is still on top while the deck is shuffling beneath him. cruz climbed eight points to 14%. bush at 10% tied with marco rubio. >> we're going to do this again. mark halperin, this is probably the fourth or fifth state poll we've shone over the past two da days. do we have a redistribution of the establishment vote? are people giving up on marco saying hey, you know what, maybe we need to go back to our first choice? >> they're not giving up on him

but there's an incredible equalization in new hampshire and some extent nationally. >> marco is losing. he's losing four points here. he was losing in the florida poll three or four points other candidates seem to be going up. we are seeing marco rubio in every poll going down. i'm not picking on him. i'm asking you. you're in new hampshire on the ground, why is this guy losing support? >> well, in part because i think the other three establishment candidates are all moving up. they're all beating each other up and rubio has taken a fair amount of beating including by ted cruz. rubio is the odds on favor to finish third in iowa and at this point here in new hampshire and the states that follow, while rubio may have lost a little

bit, the great thing is equalization. all of them are fighting hard and may end up with 10% of the vote each which would be incredible for trump and cruz. rubio, maybe he's declined a little bit. he's just as strong as the the other three establishment candidates again. >> i'm not trying to say marco's campaign is in a dyer situation. any campaign you have three or four state polls that matter and you're down a week to go before the first caucus is a problem. any theory of the case? why is he dropping in from florida to new hampshire? >> i think there's three things. one is he has been battered by negati

negative attacks. two is some people are choosing someone they think can take on trump and cruz. bush has been the most assertive of the candidates to say i will take on trump. that's going to be part of the job description if you want that slot and finally, rubio by not picking a state and not win everywhere, i think it's hurting him everywhere. there's nowhere where he's putting in the time some of his rivals are state by state. >> we heard the rubio campaign talking about a three, two, one strat ri. finish third in iowa, second in new hampshire and win south carolina and then you're on down into florida, a place where they think they can do well. how do you see his prospects? >> the negative attack adds are a big component.

i was in iowa with marco earlier this week. >> what's going on there? >> he's getting big crowds. it was 13 below and 150 people there in the middle of iowa. he's gaining in iowa while ted cruz is gaining from this big boost. his numbers are really, really climbing in new hampshire. look at the polls. ted cruz, the candidate everybody hates has strong favorability ratings.

>> speaking of first choices, the polls that came out yesterday and anybody who thinks donald trump should not be president, in florida, 48% and head to head with hillary clinton beating her 47-42. this is florida. >> we didn't put that up. in that same poll he's beating hillary 47-42. >> yes. this is florida. not some whacky state. this is one of the three or four swing states. >> they're checking it right now. >> while they're checking that, again, mika. i'll say this. you were the first person i've heard on tv saying that donald trump could win the nomination and you were the first person about three or four weeks ago that said everybody, just stop it.

cringed and studdered and i would take trump over cruz. he called mitch a liar on the floor of the senate and you don't do that. that's not something gentleman do. the idea it's defensive to a sense of decor. the reaction of this is an endorsement for ted cruz to have somebody like a senator saying they're that scared of ted cruz backs up everything ted cruz is saying about how scared the establishment is of him. i wrote that article this past weekend. i feel like the events are validating it a little bit. >> no doubt about it. jeremy peters, if donald trump were just the conservatives candidate, it might be devastating. he's not. he's picking up support from moderates, conservatives and tea partiers. i'm wondering hearing one person after another from bob dole to

terry in iowa was the most dramatic coming out which was vote for anybody but ted cruz. i wonder if at the end of the day that doesn't have an impact. >> i think that's right. there's a thing going on right now as we were talking about earlier, you're right. these people are not necessarily of a certain party. that's why a lot of people are trying to decide between donald trump and bernie sanders. one thing i don't understand and molly talks about republicans being in the state of denial. i think they might be in a state of denial about donald trump. they think they can just wash their hair of him if he becomes the nominee. he won't have done damage to the party and won't have ruptured it. i think republican voters, voters in general right now are so angry to assume this is about donald trump is a serious miscalculation. >> i think you're right. i heard the same thing from the cruz supporters. the old guard, old washington

can't stand ted cruz because he's a revolutionary. they view this as a lot of what they've said. where does this anti cruz venom come from in the establishment? it can't just be in the senate. when you talk to people in the establishment in washington they really don't like this guy. why is it? >> oh, he is an i h-- he has a believes he's consistent about. it was ted cruz who led the government shut down. there's the idea he's so devoted to his principals which is something a lot think is a good thing. he's willing to go all the way over the brink in pursuit of those. he's not going to compromise. that's a decree essential for him for a lot of people.

run. i guess if you don't want trump to be the nominee at this point, what you have to cling to is the idea he loses iowa. he doesn't handle it well and people start turning and you look at that and new hampshire is setting up so well. >> you ask why the polls are showing him down. >> i thought it was a bad sign when they were talking about a three, two, one strategy. the first thing i thought of was steve forbes ran for president in 1996 with the strategy.

what he found out was if you don't factor in iowa and new hampshire, you can't jump start your campaign after being seen as fizzling in iowa and new hampshire. that's the danger for rubio. if he doesn't get an impressive showing, you can't jump start it after. >> it's interesting. we had molly here with the atlantic up in new hampshire yesterday. she said trump is just flaying on such a different level. we had germany pejeremy peters had big crowds out there. how many? 150. donald trump would be on suicide watch if 150 people showed up at a rally.

look at all these polls and in florida he's almost at 50%. he's ahead in just about every other state in the nation except iowa and tied there. should the establishment just give up and say you know, we surrender to trumpism? >> i don't think the establishment should give up. i think a lot of these candidates who are pulling at third or fourth or fifth in new hampshire who at the moment haven't focussed on donald trump need to wake up and realize he's the one standing between them and the nomination. >> why won't they attack, why are they afraid of donald trump? >> i think for some of them, donald trump is such an unusual adversary and the moment you start to go for him, he turns around and goes for you, the jugular and you're gone. if i'm marco rubio, john kasich, chris christie, i'm concerned about trying to get donald

trump's attention turned on me. maybe not chris christie. iowa is right around the corner and new hampshire is right around the corner. the leads are too big to be made up for just by abunch of people staying home. >> it looks to us and what we've been saying here for the last several minutes is donald trump is a man on himself and the rest of those candidates are going to brawl for second place and when you go down the list you wouldn't be surprised if anyone, any of those guys came in second place. >> and you've heard the candidates talk about this

themselves. it is a five way race for second right now. >> for them, that's the ceiling. they're betting this will potentially be a fight that's not clinched into april or later at the campaigns since in my view the delegates in march are greater th greater than the delegate state. i was at waive and give up of his events late last night.

kasich is hoping to turn people around with an optimistic world view. we had an interesting conversation where they described his campaign and other campaigns. we've been plugging away. we have people who have disciples and the darkness. i think we can lift the country and solve problems. >> so the prince of light verses the disciples of darkness. i said you're talking about donald trump, right. he's the disciple of darkness. no. we have a lot of people looking in the past who continue to hit president obama and his view.

>> how's it looking in new hampshire, ali? >> i have to tell you in some of my reporting, i'm not sure the campaign would be on board with characterizing it with their strategy. it's what they see could happen. i think in new hampshire for rubio, it's a tough race for him. you look at the cnn one from yesterday showing him with jeb bush at i believe 10%. at this point there is still 2.5 weeks so time for a candidate to try to create momentum and push forward. rubio is pulling crowds. it's a different mriing field and a different race.

take on trump. >> the only difference between kasich and christie finishing second and jeb bush finishing second, south carolina's next for jeb bush. if i had to pick a state built for jeb bush, it would be the establishment republican state of south carolina. bush does well enough and actually a three, two, one strategy, that's bush's strategy. if he's third in iowa and he's second in new hampshire and he's first in south carolina, he's got the money, the organization to take it to the convention against trump. >> i feel like to make that work for bush, the thing bush needs in new hampshire is cruz to lose iowa. if cruz loses iowa, that's going to hurt him big time in south carolina. >> if cruz loses iowa, it's over. if trump wins iowa, i don't see anybody stopping him. >> if this race gets extended and trump wins iowa over cruz,

r. >> at that point the bet is money will flow in and i would also say don't forget about ted cruz in new hampshire. it's significant hooets finishing up a four day bous tour a couple of days before iowa feeling confident and making a play for new hampshire. you'll see ted cruz here before the primary and he's hoping to peel off the libra tarn votes and go after the smaller slice of evangelicals here. i wouldn't count him out just yet.

the biggest factor, are they more likely to vote in the hillary clinton fight or the trump primary? >> when we to the diners and restaurants, they say we'll figure it out. i think there's questions how you push that forward to north carolina and beyond. >> we've heard people who support trump say they like bernie sanders. it's all --

>> trump sort of defies that. if you look at the attacks people tried to use against donald trump, it's all the attacks he's not a true republican or true conservativc. voters feel like the world is falling apart and they haven't gotten a win in a while. whether you're a good republican or good conservative, that's not a primary consideration. it's are you a fighter and are you strong? i think even though he calls himself a socialist, there's a lot of folks, political ideology is not important to them.

they just want to win again. they feel bernie sanders or donald trump is the person to fight for them. >> i was talking yesterday to the big republican financial guy and said what are you thinking? trump's a nightmare, he'll get killed. >> really? i said donald trump is going to be able to move to the center like nobody because he's already telling people he supports single payer health care. he supports universal health care. donald trump could be the guy in november that says everybody should get health care insurance and i'm going to go over and kill isis. he can do it and jeb bush and ted cruz can't. he's not idea logical. he can move wherefore the electric wants to be. just think about it. what if you had a candidate that said everybody deserves health

add again, bernie sanders is certainly not different in the same way that trump, cruz and carson are different than -- >> ted cruz couldn't even get a second person in the senate to support him on getting a vote. >> cruz is somebody who is had way out of the mainstream, very, very ideological and very unwilling to compromise at all within a democracy. if you work in a legislative body, you have to work with the people. it's not just you. it's not a dictatorship. ted cruz has not heard that drum. bernie is a mainstream candidate in that he talks about the issues i think people are concerned about, hillary is talking about the same issues.

they're don't have a slug fest. the other side is having a slug fest to two did very, very different sides of politics. jeb bush wants to talk about issues and trump wants to talk about being tough. >> when you said in an interview bernie sanders raises issues that are important but i don't think there's any expectations he's going to be president of the united states. four months on, do you still believe he won't be president ofs united states? >> i think that bernie sanders will not be president of the united states. i think hillary clinton is going to win the primaries, maybe not every one of the primaries but i think she's going to be our nominee and president of the united states because i think the american public in the final analysis will say i want somebody who is reasonable, substantive, experienced, tough enough to take on the challenge
