2:30 am
golf ball 285 yards. i was proud to hold my hands up. these are politicians. they say things and they make things up and, you know, you have to clear up the record. >> march madness comes to motor city where the final four republicans do battle in their first presidential debate since super tuesday. donald trump taking fire from all directions. >> the future of the united states and the most important election in the generation and he's trying to con people into giving them their vote. >> this little guy has lied so much. >> here we go. >> about my record. >> he's playing the members of the american public for suckers. he gets a free ride to the white house and all we get is a lousy hand. and north korea steps up the rhetoric after getting slapped with tough new sanctions over its recent missile test. the country's leader now ordering its military to have nukes ready to fire at a moment's notice. it's 5:30 on the east coast, 2:30 out west. this is "way too early."
2:31 am
hey, good morning. it's friday, march 4th. it was a rollicking night last night. the presidential debates met for -- candidates met for the 11th debate and they dealt with the attacks from marco rubio against the size of donald trump's hands. the insults continued to fly late into the night. as the candidates debated poll numbers, immigration, honesty, even height. >> he has spent a career convincing americans that he's something that he's not in exchange for their money. now he's trying to do the same, in exchange for the country. >> this little guy has lied so much -- >> here we go. >> -- about my record. >> see what happens when you challenge him on the policy issue?
2:32 am
you asked him about the economy and the first thing he launches an attack about a little guy thing. he doesn't have the answers. >> i have a policy question for you. >> let's see if he answers it. >> i will, don't worry about it, don't worry, little marco, i will. >> all right, big donald. >> don't worry about it little marco. >> gentlemen -- >> you ought to -- >> you have to do better than this. >> now i watched the cnn interview donald did that he explained you can't find americans who are qualified or want to work as waiters or waitresses. how many people have worked as a waiter or waitress? [ applause ] do you know how many americans wanted those jobs? roughly 300. donald hired 17. donald told the editorial board of "the new york times" what i'm saying on immigration i don't believe. i'm not going to build a wall, i'm not going to deport people.
2:33 am
if you said i'm lying to the american people, than the voters have a right to know. >> no, you're the liar. you're the lying guy up here. you're the one. >> release the tape. >> let me just say -- excuse me. i have given my answer, lyin' ted. i have given my answer. >> he scammed the people of florida. >> no apology -- >> he doesn't vote. he doesn't show up in the u.s. senate. he doesn't vote. >> no response -- >> he scammed the people. he defrauded the people of florida. >> you made that point. go ahead. >> as you can see in his answer it's always the same thing. >> you defrauded people, little marco. >> let me ask the voters at h e home, is this the debate you want playing out in the general election. >> at the end of the debate, the candidates vowed to come together and support whoever the nominee turns out to be. there are four more elections set for this weekend for the republicans with more than 150 delegates at stake. and yesterday, mitt romney met
2:34 am
donald trump head on trying to stop his advance and saying he would support ted cruz or marco rubio or john kasich instead. point by point, romney dressed trump down on everything from his economic policy to his foreign policy to his intelligence and temperament saying that's quote, plenty of evidence that trump is a con man and a fake. and that his nomination would enable hillary clinton to march to the oval office. >> let me put it very plainly. if we republicans choose trump as our nominee the prospects for a safe and prosperous future are greatly diminished. you say, wait wait wait. isn't he a huge business success? doesn't he know what he's talking about? no, he isn't. no, he doesn't. his bankruptcies have crushed small businesses. and the men and women who work for them. he inherited his business. he didn't create it. and whatever happened to trump airlines? how about trump university? and then there's trump magazine. and trump vodka.
2:35 am
and trump steaks. and trump mortgage. a business genius he is not. here's what i know. donald trump is a phony, a fraud. his promises are as worthless as the degree from trump university. and donald trump tells us that he's very, very smart. i'm afraid that when it comes to foreign policy, he is very, very not smart. this is an individual who mocked a disabled reporter. who attributed a reporter's questions to her menstrual cycle. who mocked a brilliant rival who happened to be a woman due to her appearance. who bragged about his marital affairs and who laces his public speeches with vulgarity. donald trump says he admires vladimir putin. at the same time he's called george w. bush a liar. that is a twisted example of evil trumping good. he's not of the temperament of
2:36 am
the kind of stable, thoughtful person we need as leader. his imagination must not be married to real power. the bullying, the greed. the showing off. the misogyny. the absurd third grade theatrics. you know, we have long referred to him as the donald. he's the only person in the entire country to whom we have added an article before his name and it wasn't because he had attributes that we admired. watch how he responds to my speech today. will he talk about the policy differences? or will he attack me with every imaginable low road insult? >> look, mitt is a failed candidate. he failed. he failed horribly. i backed him. you ski how loyal he is. he was begging for my endorsement. i could have said, mitt, drop to your knees, he would have dropped to his knees. he was begging. true. true.
2:37 am
he was begging me. it was a campaign that should have never been lost. you're running against a failed president. he came one the 47% he demeaned 47% of the people in our country, right, the -- the famous 47%. obama say what you want, he was on jay leno, he was on david letterman all over the place the last three or four weeks and mitt was looking for zoning for nine car garages or something in california. right? so when mitt started raising his head a few months ago, i was very strong. i said, mitt romney should not run. he's a choke artist. then jeb bush actually convinced mitt not to run. can you imagine jeb -- jeb sold him. jeb, he's a good salesman. see he's out, he's a good salesman. but i'll tell you the real
2:38 am
reason he chickened out, it was because of me. >> and arnold schwarzenegger is stumping for john kasich. he has yet to formally endorse that. that nod is expected to come on sunday when they appear at a rally in columbus. kasich is hoping to make it to the contested convention in winning his state. chris christie held a press conference yesterday in which he defended trump and explained why he endorsed trump in first place -- he's the best person to beat hillary clinton. >> mitt romney is a friend of mine, we have a political disagreement. that's the way it goes in the primary. but i have great respect for governor romney. i'm sure there are others in the race who wish that he would make an endorsement. get out there and try to help someone but he's chosen not to do that. i have known donald trump for 14
2:39 am
years so i know much more about him than governor romney does. and so, you know, i just have a different view. >> meanwhile, governor christie addressed the internet outcry over the expression on his face as he stood behind trump during the post super tuesday press conference. let's take look. >> he was answering questions from the national press corps and i was listening. so this is part of the hysteria of the people who oppose my trump endorsement. they want to read anything into it that could be negative. that's fine. i understand that. i could care less. so no, i wasn't being held hostage. no, i wasn't sitting up there thinking oh my god what have i done? i know what i was thinking standing on that stage. and what i was thinking was, wow we'll win seven states tonight. this guy is going to be nominee for president of the united states. the security logs from hillary clinton's private e-mail server have been turned over to the fbi and the records
2:40 am
apparently show no evidence of any foreign hacking. all this according to "the new york times." citing people close to federal investigation. former staffer bryan pagliano handed over the security logs to the investigators and he told the agents that nothing in his logs suggested any intrusion occurred. pagliano who has according to "the washington post" been granted immunity by the justice department helped set up the e-mail server back in '09 at clinton's home in chappaqua, new york. a spokesman added yesterday there's no evidence whatsoever that the server was hack sno snood -- hacked. clinton and bernie sanders will meet in flint, michigan, and then next tuesday, voters will head to the polls. sanders is seizing on the issue of trade. arguing that clinton's policies in that area have hurt michigan and the country. >> was she right to support nafta? was she right to support permanent normal trade relations with china? the answer is she was very, very
2:41 am
wrong and millions of families around this country have been suffering as a result of those disastrous trade agreements. >> now the sanders campaign posted this collage of pictures along with caption, the people of detroit know the real cost of hillary clinton's free trade policies. but the clinton camp has fired back to sanders' criticism. on a conference call yesterday, jake sullivan said that sanders has been quote sanders has been awol when he could put up proposals. kim jong-un is urging his military to have nuclear weapons ready for use at a moment's use. the united nations imposed the toughest sanctions against north korea in 20 years ago. he said that north korea will ready the military so it's prepared to carry out preemptive attacks. at the same time the representatives are meeting in seoul today to discuss deploying a missile defense system in

south korea. let's turn to business now where u.s. stocks squeezed out modest gains to post a third straight day of gains ahead of today's jobs report. nancy hulgraves has more from london. what are investors to see in the numbers? >> the big number is around 200,000 jobs to have been created last month. this is an increase from the previous month at a lower pace. this should inspire investors we are not seeing a recession as some have warned. we look at the up employment level at 4.9% and wage growth to be 0.2%. of course we continue to look at inflation as a guide to where the federal reserve will go when it comes to the next rate hike. as you mentioned there, modest gains yesterday on wall street, however we're looking to close out with the third straight week of gains and this getting back to levels we haven't seen since early january. so that will be good news at

soccer player brandy chastain has decided to donate her brain to science. it's to help research with cte. it is found in athletes with head injuries. her motives come from the personal place as she coaches her son's soccer team and refuses to allow her players to head the ball. in an interview with "the new york times" she says, quote, injuries and accidents are somewhat inherent in sports but if you can protect your kids, you should. while chastain does not believe herself to have brain damage, cte cannot be diagnosed in a living person, thus the donation to science. it was kind of yucky this morning, bill karins. >> a little bit of snow. oh, yeah, like i appreciate summer, you know? you're like this is it, we're almost done. maybe the last snow for a lot of people out there. we have a little bit across ohio. we have school delays across columbus and cincinnati.
