said -- it's right. i think i said it many months before. she said it, but thanks for copying a very good idea. >> hillary clinton and bernie sanders battle it out on the debate stage once again. the question that clinton refused to answer. it's 5:30 on the east coast, 2:30 out west. this is "way too early." good morning. it's thursday, march 10th. i'm jonathan capehart. a mass shooting in pennsylvania has left five people dead and another three wounded. according to the police, the incident unfolded late last night during a backyard party or cookout in wilkinsburg, the town just east of pittsburgh. evidence points to there being at least two gunmen. according to wpxi in pittsburgh,

police have called this an ambush style attack. four of the victims were found shot on a back porch and pronounced dead at the scene. a fifth was pronounced dead at the hospital. right now now suspects in custody. and now the severe weather that's been blamed on three deaths. the latest victim is a 60-year-old louisiana man who drowned after his car was swept away by floodwaters. states of emergency have been declared in 16 louisiana parishes as parts of this -- of that state, texas, and arkansas get pounded with rain. mandatory evacuations have been ordered for 3,500 homes in bocer city, louisiana. it's a densely populated area and if the water topples the areas it would be devastated. several vehicles including this semi took a chance of crossing the road deluged with water from

the overflowing bayou. the national weather service in shreveport calls the flash flooding historic. at least 80 homes have been flooded. and now let's turn to politics. the republican national committee is suing the state department over communications between former secretary of state hillary clinton and top aides. one lawsuit seeks next messages or blackberry messages between clinton and cheryl mills and jake sullivan. another is asking for electronic messages between nearly a dozen department officials and a number of clinton associates. the state department confirmed that chats and texts can be considered official communication but stopped short of confirms that was so at the time. the suits were called frivolous, but last night in miami, the former secretary of state was asked point blank about the seriousness of ongoing investigations. >> -- gave you permission to

cooperate. president obama -- >> there was no permission to be asked. it had been done by the predecessors. it was permitted. i didn't have to ask anyone. >> if you get indicted will you drop out? >> oh, goodness, that won't happen. i won't answer that question. >> last night's debate in miami came less than 24 hours after bernie sanders upset win in michigan. the focus of the debate was immigration, a key issue for florida voters. they'll go to the polls next today. under pressure from both sanders and moderator jorge ramos, secretary clinton in a break with the obama administration pledged not to support -- deport children and other immigrants with no criminal record. >> when we talk about immigration, the secretary will remember one of the great human tragedies of recent years is children came from honduras where there's probably more violence than almost any place in this country. and they came into this country and i said, welcome those children into this country. secretary clinton said send them back. that's a difference.

>> let me respond again because the misrepresentation can't go unanswered here. i did say we needed to be very concerned about little children coming to this country on their own, very often, many of them not making it. and when they got here, they needed as i have argued for legal counsel, due process. >> can you process tonight you won't deport children, children who are already here? >> i will not deport children. i do not want to deport family member, jorge. >> i happen to agree with president obama on many, many issues. i think he's done a great job as president of the united states. he is wrong on this issue of deportation. i disagree with him on that. so to answer your question, no, i will not deport children from the united states of america. throughout the debate, clinton repeatedly criticized senator sanders for opposing a 2007 bill that would have

created a path to citizenship and on two occasions she even accused him of supporting vigilante minutemen at the border. he denied supporting vigilantes calling it a horrific statement and of course a democratic debate focused on immigration didn't go without a question about front-runner donald trump. >> secretary clinton, is donald trump a racist? >> karen, i'm going to foal lie me friend senator sanders' model here. if i'm so fortunate to be the democratic nominee there will be a lot of time to talk about him. i was the first one to call him out. i called him out when he was calling mexicans rapists. his rhetoric, his demagoguery, his trafficking in prejudice and paranoia has no place in our political system. especially from somebody running for president who couldn't

decide whether or not to disavow the ku klux klan and david duke. >> a new poll from "the washington post" and univision has her ahead of senator sanders by 38 points. for the republicans in florida, another new poll shows donald trump with a towering lead. he's at 43%, more than doubling the state's u.s. senator, marco rubio, who's at 20%. ted cruz from texas sat 16% and john kasich of ohio has 10%. this as rubio struggles to hold his home turf after a national strategy and courting power brokers. "the wall street journal" said he opened his florida office a month ago and trump's operation has been in the state since november. and the rubio campaign isn't airing a single television ad in florida, relying on outside groups that only recently began spending millions of dollars attacking trump and promoting the senator. in his hometown yesterday evening, rubio held a rally in

the end zone of an empty football areyna. a far cry after the surging crowds in south carolina and in his town hall with chuck todd last night, rubio set florida as the bar his campaign must clear. >> it's going to come down to florida for me. it always has in the presidential races. florida going to award 99 delegates all at once. you can win more in florida than across five or seven states in an apportion process. so it was a priority. even if i had done really well in all of the previous states, if i had not done well in florida, that would be trouble for our campaign. so we need to win here that's our priority. we're focused on it like a laser and we'll win. >> also he said he regrets the personal nature of some of his attacks on donald trump and including going after trump's appearance and claiming he has a spray tan and small hands. >> in terms of things that have to do with personal stuff, yeah, at the end of the day, you know what, i'm not entirely proud of that. my kids were embarrassed by it. you know, if i had to do it

again i wouldn't. but not on the other charges. not on the other things. when it comes to fact that he's portraying himself as something he's not, and has done this before throughout his career, this time the stakes are not a worthless $36,000 degree at trump university. the stakes are the greatest nation on earth. look, this is a guy who has offended for a year. he mocked a disabled journalist, a female journalist, every minority group imaginable. use profanity from the stage, that said, yeah, i don't want to be that. if that's what it takes to be president of the united states i don't want to be president. in fact, i know it's not what it take, it's not what we want from the next president. if i had to do it again i would have done that part differently. but not the stuff about his record on business. former candidate jeb bush announced yesterday he will be meeting with three of the four remaining gop candidates before they debate tonight in miami. an aide for bush confirmed bush is meeting with everyone but donald trump.

no word on whether an endorsement is in store. right now ted cruz is polling in third place in florida, but he's opened ten campaign offices deep in what would be called rubio country. yesterday, while campaigning in miami, he introduced his latest endorser to cheers -- former rival carly fiorina. she backed him as a candidate and who could beat both donald trump and hillary clinton. >> there's some people in our party who are saying, donald trump wouldn't be so bad. i mean -- [ audience boos ] >> okay, maybe he's a liberal. maybe he's a fraud, but you know, at least he's a deal maker. we can make deals with him. [ audience boos ] >> here's the thing. the truth is that donald trump and hillary clinton are two sides of the same coin. they're not going to reform the system. they are the system.

i want to get back to one of our top stories this morning. the historic flooding in parts of louisiana. bill karins is here, but let's start with reporter joel rodgers from our affiliate ktal. he's live in hotten, louisiana. how is it where you are? >> reporter: jonathan, good morning. it is wet. it's rained constantly for the past 48 hours and i'm here in the subdivision, tall timbers. an area hit very much by the hard rain. flooding has been a major factor here. more than 75 homes and vehicles are submerged near the first street of here in tall timbers. large two story houses have water going over the doors and windows. personal belongings are scattered everywhere. neighbors are trying to help each other out, because they're left without power.

as you can see from this video just a breathtaking video as you see water up to the rooftop of many of the houses. and cars some of them you cannot see. some of them you can barely see. it is a big problem here. the flooding, it's affected so many people. like so many other places around this area. and, guys, it will take a while for this water to go down. but first, it has to stop raining. guys, back to you in new york. jonathan? >> all right, thanks very much. let's bring in bill karins. is the rain finished yet? >> no, we are only halfway through this event. this is a rare weather pattern. you experience on it on the east coast with the record highs yesterday. this is how much rain has been falling here and the heaviest rains have been here in northern louisiana. southern arkansas and northeast texas. this area outside of shreveport, we have had reports of up to 16 inches of rain. there's 12 inches there, reports of ten inches there.

this is right across interstate 22 which was shut down for a while yesterday. unfortunately for the region it is still pouring right now. numerous bands of thunderstorms are coming up from the south. you just picked up a foot of rain and another three to six inches this morning with the thunderstorms and the lightning coming to the north. eventually, this will shift a little bit to the east and giving them a break in northern louisiana but then we'll talk about areas of southern mississippi and new orleans under a flood watch. we have 3 to 4 million under warnings right now, an additional three to six today. isolated up to the foot. if we get more significant to historic flooding, jackson, mississippi, down to new orleans. that's where we could see, jonathan, another five to ten inches of rain. that will continue into friday. so we're not done yet. >> all right. bill, thanks very much. let's turn to business now where world markets are watching for a much anticipated announcement from the european central bank on stimulus measures. cnbc's geoff cutmore joins us

from london where he's tracking the market moves ahead of the policy meeting. what's the latest? >> good morning to you, jonathan. well, the expectation here is that the european central bank will deliver more stimulus. right now, the pundits think that probably means we go even further into negative territory on the deposit rate. possibly a ten basis point cut. we are already negative 30 basis points on the rate here. so hard to see what difference it is going to make, but it will be another reason for traders to keep the euro button on the sell position. so keep your eye on the currencies because that could be the main fallout area we see from this rate decision. but it's a big issue for the markets today. one other thing worth bearing in mind, the oil price and the correlation to stocks. very tight correlation of late here. no sign of that breaking down. even though the analysts are telling us they don't think the current rebound we have seen in

the price will last as long as we see oversupply data. one last story to finish on here t president and ceo of the u.s. operation of volkswagen has gone. he has parted ways with the parent company. disagreements over the way negotiations was authorities are going we think is the reason why. like the auto ad says, one slightly used auto executive for sale. back on the market. one careful owner. but has been tested in harsh conditions. back to you. >> that's great. geoff cutmore, live from london, thank you. time now for sports and we begin with the nfl. where in kansas city the chiefs are paying the price for their pursuit of wide receiver jeremy maclin who left the eagles to sign with kansas city late last season. the league has now fined and stripped the team of two draft picks for violating the nfl's anti-tampering policy. the chiefs lose their third round pick in this year's draft

and their sixth round pick next year for improper contact with maclin before the start of last year's free agent period. head coach andy reid was fined $75,000 and the general manager was fined $25,000 and the organization as a whole fined $250,000. meanwhile, recent rumors surrounding brock osweiler and his desire to leave denver appear to have been accurate. the houston texans have reportedly inked a four-year, $72 million deal with the quarterback. originally a second round pick by the broncos in 2012, osweiler started seven games last season and with peyton manning's retirement, the move leaves denver with a gaping hole at qb. also joining osweiler is lamar miller who is reportedly set to sign a four-year contract worth $26 million. turning now to the nba where another night of warriors basketball means another dazzling performance by reigning league mvp steph curry.
