but this has been overshadowed by increased violence at trump's campaign events. nbc's gabe gutierrez reports. >> reporter: the atmosphere, toxic and grotesque say his opponents. lots of interruptions but no arrests at donald trump's rallies. >> get him out of here. get him out. get him out! >> reporter: this after secret service surrounded trump saturday when one protester rushed the stage. hours after a chicago rally was canceled amid violent clashes. on wednesday, a trump supporter punched a man. >> i don't accept responsibility. >> reporter: trump came to his defense. >> i don't condone the violence. i don't condone what he did. but you know what? not nice on the other side either. >> it's possible you could have help him with legal fees if this man needs it? >> i've actually instructed my people to look into it, yes. >> reporter: in illinois, 70-year-old veteran was among those kicked out. telling nbc's hallie jackson he thinks trump is inciting the violence. >> i get very passionate about

i am a lot of things. i am her best friend. i am her ally. so i asked about adding once-daily namenda xr to her current treatment for moderate to severe alzheimer's. it works differently. when added to another alzheimer's treatment, it may improve overall function and cognition. and may slow the worsening of symptoms for a while. vo: namenda xr doesn't change how the disease progresses. it shouldn't be taken by anyone allergic to memantine, or who's had a bad reaction to namenda xr or its ingredients.

before starting treatment, tell their doctor if they have, or ever had, a seizure disorder, difficulty passing urine, liver, kidney or bladder problems, and about medications they're taking. certain medications, changes in diet, or medical conditions may affect the amount of namenda xr in the body and may increase side effects. the most common side effects are headache, diarrhea, and dizziness. all my life, she's been there for me. now i am giving back. ask their doctor about once-daily namenda xr and learn about a free trial offer at namendaxr.com. here's your monday morning dish of "scrambled politics." although most of the political discussion is focused on tuesday, some voters hit the polls over the weekend. marco rubio is the winner of the washington, d.c. gop caucus. narrowly defeating john kasich by just 50 votes. he picks up 10 delegates, kasich 9. senator ted cruz is ahead in wyoming's complicated primary, securing nine delegates. rubio, trump and uncommitted

each got one delegate. the rest of the state's 29 delegates will be awarded along with naming eventual winner at april's state convention. cruz also on the caucus in guam, picking up another delegate. and hillary clinton won the first-ever northern mariana islands caucus picking up four delegates. bernie sanders secured two. and larry david sanders made a return to "saturday night live" this weekend addressing exactly who is feeling the bern. >> senator, many think you need these superdelegates to win the nomination. >> not true. no. not true. i have the voters. my message is resonating with a very diverse group of white people. and i've got supporters of all ages, 18-year-olds, 19-year-olds. that's it. >> clinton surely wants to attract the support sanders gets from younger voters and has been

drawing some ire for appearing to move her message closer to the vermont senator. opinions not lost to "snl" writers. >> so, thank you, millennials, for lending your support to the biggest outsider jew in the race. hillary rodham clinton. there's a lot of work to be done, and that is why i am sick and tired of hearing about my -- >> this message was paid for by hillary clinton. feel the bern, for her. >> i'm whoever you want me to be and i approve this message. i'm trying here, guys. >> and that is your morning dish of "scrambled politics." i laugh every time i see that. just funny. let's bring in msnbc political reporter jane timm. thanks so much for being here. >> good morning. >> we're talking about politics. of course all eyes are on tuesday. but there's going to be a little upset because we're expecting john kasich to actually win ohio. what is this going to do to trump? >> you know, it won't do as much
2:23 am
as people who oppose donald trump would like, unless marco rubio can also win florida. if trump loses both florida and ohio, then we actually have maybe a race. but if trump wins florida he gets to walk out a champion and kasich win in ohio. you know. they say no republican has ever won the white house without winning ohio. but no republican like donald trump has ever run before so i think we can safely say all bets are off. >> he's definitely a game changer. right now he's under fire because of all the violence going on in the rallies. politico did this essay because they're looking at the untruths. they did this week long study of what he's saying and is it really true and they're fact checking him. turns out, and to quote equates to roughly one misstatement every five minutes on average. does this matter? >> as a reporter it can be maddening sometimes to see these things. but you know what? for his supporters they believe his message. they believe his overall message. it does not matter to them if he gets a couple things wrong.
2:24 am
they say he's got the big stuff right. but let's remember that those supporters are 30%, 40% of republican primary voters. when you're in a general election you need a lot more than one-third of your party. >> okay. let's talk about this. if he does become the next nominee, right, they're saying that he's changed everything. and is the gop going to be able to back him? has he changed the gop? is it going to split? and what has he actually done to the politics of this nation? >> for a party that's been working so hard to widen out their support outside of just white voters, appeal to minorities, convince black voters that they are not -- that they're on their side that they're someone that they can choose in a general election, they cut themselves back a decade if they put trump on the front of the ticket because his rhetoric is very divisive and i think we can expect to continue seeing that divisive rhetoric. we can see democrats pull out minority votes like they've never done before. i think that there's a lot of -- >> like it's never done before this whole year, all like it's never done before. jane timm thank you so much for being here. i appreciate it. >> thanks. >> good to see you. just ahead, which
