the 57-year-old was found unresponsive in his home thursday and was declared dead a short time later. the cause of death is still unclear. officials say an autopsy is scheduled for today. and prince's home state of minnesota, a sea of fans gathered outside the famous minneapolis music venue first avenue last night that's where prince filmed "purple rain." a rainbow appeared over prince's self-titled paisley park home and studio. in brooklyn, director spike lee organized a street dance party outside his movie production theater and in harlem, fans danced to his music throughout the afternoon. ♪ >> on broadway, the cast of "hamilton" honor prince with "let's go crazy." and bridges were in purple. a slew of remembrances by those

>> reporter: late last week, hours after a performance in atlanta during which concert goers reported nothing out of the ordinary, prince fell ill on the private plane ride home which made an emergency landing in illinois. hospitalized, he was treated and released saturday morning, throwing a release party later in true prince fashion. >> for a medical paisley park for a male not breathing. >> reporter: medical personnel were dispatched to his home around 9:45 local time, found unresponsive in an elevator. his publicist confirmed the death a short time later. unrelenting outpouring of grief and happier memories. madonna known best by a single word called him a true visionary. she said i'm devastated on twitter. the twin cities draped in heartache and purple. and fittingly it's been raining. >> what an extraordinary legacy. he will be missed.

prince, dead at the age of 57. now to the race for the white house. top leaders in the republican party are huddling together for a big meeting in florida. front-runner donald trump appears to be making a move more towards the middle during a "today" show town hall, he spoke out against north carolina's recent anti-lgbt bathroom law. this comes as top aide paul manafort says that trump has a different private persona he's going to show to the public. he plans to reveal that to appeal to more women, minorities and other voters in a general election. on the democratic side, allies of bernie sanders are planning to meet after the primary season to discuss the future of the movement galvanized by his campaign. this comes as sanders sat down with nbc's andrea mitchell for his first interview since his devastating loss in new york. he says the path to the nomination won't be easy. >> it's not unrealistic, it's a hard path i admit that. look, if we do not have a majority, i think it will be hard for us to win.

to earn your votes. >> reporter: hoping to pick up support on the primaries. hillary clinton heads back to pennsylvania after another gun safety forum. >> we have too many guns in this country, in the wrong hands. >> in many cases i'm being attacked by clinton people unfairly. >> reporter: bernie sanders tells nbc he won't back off clinton and still thinks he's the democrat's best shot of winning in november. and that's what bernie sanders considers his ace in the hole to win over the super delegates. polls that show him beating republicans by wider margins. betty? >> thank you, tracie. president obama arrived in london amid fierce debate in that country over whether to leave the european union. the president penned an op-ed published in the telegraph and it supports david cameron and others, urging british citizens to remain part of the e.u. he stressed the long ties to great britain and he said, quote, when it comes to creating jobs, trade and economic growth

in line with our values, the u.k. has benefitted from its membership in the e.u. today, he and the first lady will lunch with queen elizabeth ii to kick off the u.k. visit. it marks the third meeting. she has met 11 of the last 12 presidents all the way back to truman. nbc's ron allen is live outside windsor castle. what does the president hope to accomplish this weekend? >> reporter: well, the visit here to windsor is a purely social meeting as you said. he's met with the queen a number of times before. this visit which the first lady will join him on essentially book ends a visit here back in 2009 when president obama first took office. so purely a social gathering here where i imagine there's at what of reminiscing about the last eight years because this is likely the last time that president obama will come this way during his time in office. we'll have the farewell visits coming up as president obama leaves office over the next eight months or so. then it's back to london to

meeting with david cameron for some serious business. you mentioned the e.u., whether britain will stay or go. there's a referendum on june 23rd here. very contentious issue. the camp that wants britain to leave the e.u. is upset that president obama has stepped time this debate. they feel it's meddling, they feel it's inappropriate for a foreign leader to take a position on this debate. however, the president feels very strongly about it. he says essentially that britain is a key ally of the united states. the united states sees britain as a bridge to europe. and he feels that britain's position is much enhanced by remaining a part of this e.u. bloc of some 28 nations. he'll be asked about it at a press conference that he'll hold with the prime minister. also on the on the agenda, the fight against isis and another reason of course why the president says that britain's place should be in the -- should be in the european union. back to you.
