it's tuesday, april 26th. right now on "first look" -- >> they collude, collude. i was actually happy because it shows how weak they are. it shows how pathetic they are. >> ted cruz and john kasich the target of donald trump's venomous response. but on the democratic side, bernie sanders knows it will take a miracle to move him forward against hillary clinton. a severe weather outbreak ahead today. over 36 million americans are at risk of dangerous and life threatening storms. a busy tuesday ahead. "first look" starts right now. well, good morning to you. thanks for joining us today.

i'm betty nguyen. well, today is another big tuesday in politics, voters in connecticut, delaware, maryland, pennsylvania and rhode island will head to the polls. half of the delegates will come from pennsylvania and for the republicans 172 delegates are at stake. delaware is the only winner take all contest. if the latest polling is any indication, expect donald trump to have another huge night. trump spent monday railing against the ted cruz/john kasich pact. >> did you see the news today? did you see where they band together, where they collude. you know it's collusion. you know if you collude in business, if you collude in business, or if you collude in the stock market, they put you in jail. but in politics, because it's a rigged system, because it's a corrupt enterprise, in politics, you're allowed to collude. so they colluded and actually i was happy. because it shows how weak they are.

it shows how pathetic they are. >> the two fired back and explained their alliance. >> we had conversations and both campaigns agreed to focus our energies, i think that's a decision, an allocation of resources that makes a lot of sense. it's devoted to the principle of beating hillary clinton in november and turning this country around. >> my team met with the cruz people and they made a recommendation. i said i think it's fair because in some places we haven't spent a lot of resources. i don't think this is a big deal, other than the fact i'm not spending resources in indiana, he's not spending in other places. what's the big deal? >> but there's cracks forming in the informal alliance already. kasich had this to say if he thinks supporters should vote cruz in indiana. >> i never told them not to vote for me. we're not over there spending

and bernie sanders appeared in town halls. >> we are the stronger campaign in taking on donald trump or any other republican candidate. i think most democrats throughout, more than anything, correctly so, want to make sure that some right wing republican doesn't become president of the united states. we are running as hard as we can to win this thing. my job is to get as many delegates as possible and try to win the nomination for president. >> i'm winning because of what i stand for and what i have done and what my ideas are. >> delegates -- >> rachel, i'm way away in the votes. i have the greatest respect for senator sanders but really what he and his supporters are now saying just doesn't add up. i have 2.7 million more votes than he has. i have more than 250 more pledged delegates. i'm very proud of the campaign that we have run and the support we have gotten.
2:05 am
>> things got heated on the subject of whether sanders and supporters if they'd back clinton if she gets the nomination. >> if we end up losing and i hope do not, it is incumbent upon secretary clinton not only to reach out the my supporters to do all of the american people with an agenda. >> i didn't put down conditions. you know what, i said i'm supporting senator obama. from the time i withdrew until the time i nominated him, i nominated him at the convention in denver. i spent an enormous amount of time convincing my supporters to support him. i think that's what one does. >> msnbc is the place for complete coverage starting at 5:00 p.m. eastern. don't miss it. johnny football to be indicted, former heisman trophy winner is expected to be
