>> hillary clinton wants to abolish the second amendment. she wants to abolish it. okay. hillary clinton wants to take your guns away, and she wants to abolish the second amendment. she wants to take the bullets away. she wants to take it. you tell me that's something we can live with. we're going to cherish the second amendment. we're going to take care of the second amendment. >> i don't see donald trump having any kind of coherent foreign policy or theory of national security. he kind of makes statements that i find concerning, whether it's about nuclear weapons or torture or anything else. so i think the burden is really on him to try to make a case why, when you've had 70 years of american policy under both republicans and democrats trying to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons, he is so cavalier, even reckless and dangerous.

>> on foreign policy, hillary is trigger happy. she is. she's trigger happy. she's got a bad temperament. by the way, and her husband learned that a few times, didn't he? but she's trigger happy. you look what she did. look at this. i just wrote this down. iraq. libya. she voted, iraq. let's go into iraq. >> i'm not going to run an ugly race. i'm going to run a race based on issues and what my agenda is for the american people. i don't really feel like i'm running against donald trump. i feel like i'm running for my vision of what our country can be. >> but donald trump raised a lot more eyebrows for delving into the personal side. trump cited a report from last month that a super pac supporting clinton is going to begin a $90 million ad campaign against him. trump said that the ads will largely focus on him and women, and so he made this connection over the weekend. >> hillary clinton just ordered $90 million worth of hit ads on

donald trump. and it's hit ads on donald trump and women. in the history of politics, hillary clinton's husband abused women more than any man that we know of in the history of politics, right? i mean, have you ever read what hillary clinton did to the women that bill clinton had affairs with? do you remember the fabulous "i did not have sex with that woman," and then a couple of months later, "i'm guilty." he was impeached for lying about what happened with a woman. and she's going to take ads about little donald trump? i don't know. i don't think so. she's playing the woman's card so much and so loud. she's going to get right for it because it's not appropriate. she was an unbelievably nasty, mean enabler. and what she did to a lot of those women is disgraceful. so about up -- put that in her bonnet and let's see what

happens. >> hillary clinton's campaign responded, "in a week in which donald trump casually suggested destabilizing the entire u.s. economy and cited his attendance at the miss universe pageant, of course he wants to try to change the subject. hillary clinton doesn't care what he says about her. she will continue to call him out for his divisive comments. donald trump and paul ryan are to set to meet but that comes after ryan said he was not ready to endorse the presumptive nominee. trump said that ryan's comments came as a surprise. >> i was very surprised and very disappointed because, you know, you should be -- we've got to be cheerleaders for the republican party. we don't have to play cute. >> it's politics. i'm never stunned by anything that happens in politics. but i'm not -- so i'm not -- i was blindsided a little bit because he spoke to me three weeks ago and it was a very nice, encouraging call. but i have a nice relationship with him. then all of a sudden he does

this number. i'm not sure what he has in mind. >> trump refusaying he had to s true to himself and his voters. >> so i have to stay true to my principles also, and i'm a conservative. but don't forget, this is called the republican party. it's not called the conservative party. you know, there are conservative parties. this is called the republican party. i am a conservative. >> by the way, that call he's referring to, the speaker's office said it never happened, and the last time the two talked was back in march. but the backlash does not end there. now sarah palin is targeting paul ryan's congressional race and accusing him of trying to torpedo his party's chances this cycle so he can run in four years. >> i think paul ryan is soon to be cantored, as in eric cantor. his political career is over but for a miracle because he is has so disrespected the will of the people. and yeah, as the leader of the gop, the convention certainly he is to remain neutral and for him

to already come out and say who he will not support was not a wise decision of his. >> meanwhile, some top republican names are coming out for trump while others are staying on the bench, even ones in top party leadership. house whip lynn westmoreland said "i honestly don't understand what paul's thinking. i don't get it. i try not to give advice to the speaker but it brought about in my opinion even more confusion to this thing." dick cheney and bob dole both saying they will support trump. and in a "wall street journal" op-ed, bobby jindal says he will vote for trump, quote, warts and all, adding that, quote, i think electing donald trump would be the second worst thing we could do this november, better only than electing hillary clinton. meanwhile, hillary clinton heads to virginia and kentucky this week and said she's already starting to get attention from some nontraditional supporters. >> some of your aides talk about something called republicans for hillary. they think that with donald

trump getting the nomination, it opens a certain kind of republican voter to you that might not have been available before. how do you get that voter? >> well, obviously i'm reaching out to democrats, republicans, independents, all voters who want a candidate who is running a campaign based on issues. and so i think that for a lot of people, again, who take their vote seriously and who really see this as a crossroads kind of election, i am asking people to come join this campaign, and i've had a lot of outreach from republicans in the last days who say that they are interested in talking about that. >> and "the wall street journal" reports this morning that the financial services industry is increasingly backing clinton. she's drawn more than $4 million from wall street, nearly $350,000 in march alone. and the analysis suggests many of those donors once supported bush and rubio. clinton has more wall street donors than all other candidates

kp combined, and wall street backing has never accounted more than 1% of trump's donors this cycle. at the same time, the primary is still trudging on. over the weekend hillary clinton won the guam caucuses over bernie sanders, winning 60% of that vote and 4 of the 7 pledged delegates. but sanders cut into clinton's lead by more than two dozen delegates this weekend when washington state democrats finalized results from its march 26th caucuses. meanwhile, about 6700 turned out for sanders in new jersey last night. rallygoers booed clinton's name repeatedly as sanders pledged to go the distance. >> as of today, we have won 18 state primaries and caucuses. and with your help, we're going to win a lot more in the next month. from now until the last primary which will be in washington, d.c., on june 14th, we are going to fight for every single vote.

well, president obama address the graduates at howard university on saturday, one of the oldest historically black universities in this nation. he discussed voting rights and delivered a message that appeared to be aimed at activists with black lives matter. >> there's been a trend around the country of trying to get colleges to disinvite speakers with a different point of view. or disrupt a politician's rally. don't do that. no matter how ridiculous or offensive you might find the things that come out of their mouths, because as my grandmother used to tell me, every time a fool speaks, they are justicing their own ignorance. let them talk. but listen, engage. if the other side has a point, learn from them. if they're wrong, rebut them. teach them. beat them on the battlefield of ideas. this is the only advanced

democracy on earth that goes -- goes out of its way to make it difficult for people to vote. even if we dismantled every barrier to voting, that alone would not change the fact that america has some of the lowest voting rates in the free world. in 2012 nearly two in three americans -- african-american turned out. and then in 2014, only two in five turned out. you don't think that made a difference in terms of the congress i've got to deal with? and then people are wondering, well, how come obama hasn't gotten this done? how come he didn't get that done? what would have happened if you had turned out at 50, 60, 70% all across this country? people try to make this political thing really complicated. i'm, like, well, what kinds of reforms do we need? and how do we need to do that? you know what? just vote. >> he was also awarded with an honorary doctorate degree and told the class of 2016 that

welcome back to "way too early." let's turn to business now where ride-share companies uber and lyft have now pulled out of austin, texas. cnbc's nancy is joining us live from london. what might this mean moving forward with the future of ride sharing? >> well, good morning, alex. and that's precisely right. a lot of people wondering this morning whether or not what's happening in austin could spread to othercountry. let's let you know. uber and lyft have said they are suspending their services so users will not be able to access these services this morning from today. and that's because proposition 1, a set of laws that has been passed in austin, passed by about a 56% margin, and that enforces new regulations for the drivers, things like fingerprint background checks which the companies simply say is not conducive to ride sharing. austin, of course, is seen as a tech hub. so the company extremely

disappointed is the line coming from uber this morning. some are saying perhaps they're using this as a negotiating tactic to get regulations changed going forward. we'll have to see on that one. investors also keeping an eye on twitter this morning and reports are saying that twitter is effectively banning u.s. intelligence services from using a provider called data miner which looks at various tweets online about various terrorist attacks. but twitter has come out in clarifying this. dow jones reports saying look, most of this is public information which of course the u.s. intelligence services can access like anyone else. but the issue here is when it comes to third-party providers selling information, and that's what they don't want taking place to u.s. intelligence services. alex, back to you. >> interesting developments. thank you very much. penn state university's legal settlements with jerry sandusky's accusers which account to more than $90 million cover alleged abuse dating to 1971, the school confirmed yesterday. the a.p. report came after university president eric barron spoke out against allegations made last week that the late

coach joe paterno knew about a sexual abuse claim against the former assistant 40 years ago. barron's had an open letter on the university's website that he is, quote, appalled by the rumor, innuendo and rush to judgment, adding "we cannot find any evidence related to a settlement or otherwise that an alleged early assault was communicated to coach paterno." meanwhile, three university officials including former president graham spanier await trial to criminal charges for their handling of the scandal. sandusky was sentenced in october 2012 to serve 30 to 60 years in prison. he filed a petition early last week for a new trial. paterno died in january 2012, and he was never charged with any crimes. let's turn now to some highlights in yesterday's nba playoff action. in oklahoma city, the thunder evening up their western conference semifinal series against the spurs after a 111-97 win over the spurs. it happened in game four. kevin durant poured on 41 points in that game as the thunder held san antonio's tim duncan to the first scoreless postseason

matchup of his career. game five is tomorrow in san antonio. then in atlanta, the cavaliers are headed to the eastern conference finals after completing that four-game sweep of the hawks with a 100-99 win. that was a close one yesterday. cleveland also swept the pistons in the first round. let's go to the ice in tampa. the islanders are sent packing. they're unable to fight back from the brink of elimination against the lightning. the defending champions closed out a 4-1 eastern conference semifinal series, blanking new york 4-0 yesterday. and we've got to turn to major league baseball now because in chicago, the nationals' bryce harper with an historic day at the plate without even swinging the bat, that washington slugger set a league record by reaching base seven times without an official at-bat. harper watched the mlb record for walks in a game with six, and then he was hit by a pitch. okay. but this game was decided in extra innings, tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the 13th. >> deep left center!
