"first look" is up next. it's wednesday, may 25th. right now on "first look" a donald trump rally in new mexico brought the protesters out in force. but is this just a sign of things to come for the republican front-runner? multiple massive tornadoes rip through the midwest. and america's one time tv dad turned defendant and facing a possible ten year prison sentence if convicted. muscle cars put to the test. which ones are the safest? a newly crowned winner of "the voice." albuquerque, new mexico. hundreds of protesters blocked the intersections and set fire and threw rocks outside a donald trump rally. police officers used spray to try to disperse protesters. police say several officers are currently being treated for injuries. at least one protester has been arrested. here's what some protesters told nbc's hallie jackson. >> donald trump cannot come to our city after calling us rapists. lies. he is not in the spirit of people and the spirit of democracy and the spirit of the promise. we all have certain alienable rights and he acts like it belongs to the people that support him. >> anywhere from the banning the muslims, hating women and hating -- calling mexicans rapists. i mean, you're in new mexico. and what do you expect the

mexican community to act like? >> and hallie jackson joins us for more. what's the latest? >> reporter: hi, betty, good morning. and this morning, the streets have cleared out in downtown albuquerque after real protests last night. after that donald trump rally. the demonstrators interrupted his remarks several times. that's not u.nusual, but what ws unusual, what we saw in chicago several months ago, but police put out smoke canisters. police walked back block by block to try to the protesters somewhat under control. trump himself talked a lot about topics in the news. hillary clinton. he talked about the new mexico governor and many upset about his appearance in albuquerque at all. >> thank you for that. a trump senior adviser responded to the riots tweeting watching thugs and punks in

alker ri, they don't nope what they're protesting. new mexico's republican governor susana martinez was not atlas night's rally saying she was too busy to attend. all of that as trump remains just a handful of delegates away from officially taking the republican nomination. he won the washington primary last night. and while clinton is poised to also win washington's primary, it won't give her any delegates. washington democrats already awarded their delegates based on their caucuses in march. the primary comes as trump and clinton engage in a new round of mud slinging. trump dredged up a decades old conspiracy that the clintons were involved in the suicide of their close friend, vince foster. clinton released this new ad going after trump for the housing crisis. >> i kind of hope that happens

because then people like me would go in and buy. if there is a bubble burst as they call it, you know, you could make a lot of money. >> clinton is expected to double down on trump's housing record at campaign events today, but not before she enlisted the help of elizabeth warren who went after trump on the housing issue. >> donald trump was drooling over the idea of a housing meltdown because it meant he could buy up more property on the cheap. what kind of a man does that? what kind of a man roots for people to get thrown out of their house? a small, insecure money grubber who doesn't care who gets hurt so long he makes a profit off it. >> as clinton and trump wage their war of word, bernie sanders tried to take the june 7th california primary.

his campaign adviser ted devine says they're releasing a barrage of ads in the state. those ads are set to air this morning. now to extreme weather in the plains and several tornadoes in western kansas. authorities say two people were critically injured tuesday when a tornado struck near dodge city. storm chasers captured several on video, including the moment one started pulling apart a home. >> it hit that house. >> hold up. >> pieces of the house are flying around. >> oh, no. >> so frightening. there is no word on the extent of the damage to that structure. the national weather service warned residents ahead of time to take cover. meanwhile, storm chasers captured two separate instances of double tornadoes spinning near each other. the tornado outbreak caused

significant damage to a land filled building and other homes and strushctures. and meanwhile, hail came down on tuesday. bill karins will have more in a few minutes. right now, bill cosby's slow motion fall from grace under an avalanche of sexual allegations take a more serious turn tuesday. cosby is ordered to stand trial on criminal sexual assault charges. the comic icon is facing the possibility of a ten year prison sentence if convicted of a crime that allegedly occurred more than a decade ago. nbc's stephanie gosk has the story. >> reporter: once america's dad, now turned defendant. bill cosby needed assistance walking into court despite his lawyer's best efforts, the judge ruled there was enough evidence to go to trial. >> we are going to move forward on the case and look forward to getting a trial date. >> reporter: cosby is fighting criminal charges that he sexually assaulted former temple university employee andrea constand more than a decade ago in his home. a detective read a statement she

gave police in 2005 detailing what happened the night of the alleged assault. cosby invited her over for dinner according to the statement. offering her wine and unspecified pills. he urged me to take them. constand told detectives the pills made her dizzy. i got scared. i thought i was having a bad reaction to something. i had no strength in my legs. in constand's account, cosby started inappropriately touching her under her shirt and pants as she slipped in and out of consciousness. she told detectives that my bra was over my breasts. up by my neck. in a statement cosby gave to police in 2005 that was referenced in court, he admitted sexual contact occurred but he said he was consensual. his attorney said constand's statement lacks credibility. >> the evidence presented in the montgomery county courtroom confirms that william cosby is not guilty. >> reporter: it's the only criminal case against cosby. but there are multiple ongoing

lawsuits. more than 55 women have come forward accusing cosby of sexual misconduct. cosby has repeatedly denied them all. some of the accusers could be called to testify in the andrea constand case. >> this case could be won or lost based on whether other women are allowed to speak at this trial. >> reporter: heidi thomas could be one of them. >> this is our case. i don't get a chance to face him in court for me. so andrea constand is doing it for all of us. myself included. >> nbc's stephanie gosk reporting there. the judge has set an arraignment date for july 20th. all right. so so-called muscle cars are known for their speed and the cool fact to but how are they with safety? the insurance institute for highway safety ran three top selling muscle cars through a series of crash tests. the 2016 camaro, ford mustang

"scrambled politics." according to bloomberg, house speaker paul ryan may be closer to endorsing donald trump for president. he is reportedly is telling colleagues he wants the standoff to come to an end. paul manafort told some lawmakers that an endorsement can come this week. however, aides to ryan said nothing has been decided yet. a new interparty feud begins. this time between the billionaire businessman andm in governor susana martinez. here's what he had to say about after knee failed to appear at his rally. >> we have to get your governor to get going. she has to do a better job, okay? your governor has to do a better job. she's not doing the job. hey, maybe i'll run for governor of new mexico, i'll get this place going. >> the governor staff responded telling an albuquerque paper

politics reporter for "usa today." good morning, eliza. >> good morning. thanks for having me. >> absolutely. so we watched more protesters erupt at a donald trump rally last night. it was in new mexico. will we see these continue to grow even after he clinches the nomination? >> i think the protests aren't going away. they have been around for a while. last night was a little different because it was more violent than usual. although we saw -- remember in chicago he had to shut down a rally because of protests. i can't imagine them going away. i think while republicans are getting behind him, he still is just as divisive with democrats and with the people that aren't in the party but are against donald trump. so i think protests aren't going away. hopefully they're less violent, but he has protesters at every rally. this isn't completely new. >> no, definitely not new. that's the point. is goitsing -- is it going to continue to grow? senator warren went after trump and his comments on the housing meltdown. she going to be one of hillary clinton's most lethal weapons in

all of this? >> we have seen elizabeth warren attacking donald trump recently, really going after him on twitter. kind of going where a lot of people won't go. definitely where hillary clinton won't go. her comments yesterday came with a lot of, you know, clinton surrogates. clinton came out with an ad yesterday attacking trump for comments that he hoped that the housing bubble burst so he could buy low. he came back after the ad and he said, you know, of course he did that. because the -- of course he wants to take advantage when situations are bad. that's what you want in a leader. which is kind of an interesting defensive move on trump's part. we haven't seen a statement like that. i think warre warren will keep after him. she is making it clear the division between the democrats and republicans. >> there's word that speaker paul ryan will be poised to endorse trump. will that help party unity?
