last night, donald trump easily won the washington state primary pulling within 40 delegates of clinching the gop nomination. but that was overshadowed by a violent night in albuquerque. anti-donald trump protesters clashed with the police outside the presumptive gop nominee's rally in new mexico and some in the crowd waved mexican flags while others set fires and even more chanted obscenities marching through the streets. things really escalated when protesters threw rocks at the officers who used smoke canisters and what appeared to be pepper spray to disperse the crowds. the albuquerque police department said several were treated for injuries from being hit by rocks and at least one person was arrested. trump had reportedly left the area by the time the clashes escalated. on his way to l.a., where he will hold a major fund-raiser. but it was inside the albuquerque convention center protesters sporadically interrupted the event to hear his respond to attacks in 2006

when he said that the housing market would crash. so he could take advantage and go in and buy. >> i see this low life -- she puts on the ad, did you know that donald trump was rooting against housing because he wanted housing to go down because he wanted to buy and they've got a clip of me many years saying, if it goes down, i'm going to buy. i'm a businessman, that's what i'm supposed to do. you see, if she did it, she'd want to buy at the top. i like if it goes down, it goes down. hey, i feel badly for everybody. what am i going to do? i'm in business. okay? she goes, and donald trump is a terrible person. and he wanted to buy housing when it was at a low point. who the hell doesn't? who doesn't? >> hillary clinton kept up the pressure on trump yesterday hitting him on the issues of financial speculation and wall street.

helping poor little wall street. let me find the world's smallest violin to play a sad, sad song. >> the state of washington held its democratic primary last night and hillary clinton defeated bernie sanders 54% to 46%. but it doesn't count for very much. all of washington's delegates were awarded after the state's caucus back in march which bernie sanders won. >> it's true. the democrats presidential primary in washington doesn't count. so you know your awful friend who says he doesn't vote because he doesn't feel like his vote counts? if he's a washington democrat participating in the primary he's right. he's still awful, but he is right. >> meanwhile, sanders campaign has requested a recanvass of last week's primary results from kentucky. now, clinton leads there with less than 2,000 votes and for now has only received three more delegates than sanders and he's turning out thousands in california under pressure to bow out of this race from some party

brass. sanders was defiant and found a surprising defender in the form of harry reid. >> i think we should lay off bernie sanders a little bit, okay? the party is -- has changed during his tenure re we'll see what happens. i think bernie is a good man, he tries to do the right thing. i think everything will work out well. >> if i'm running for office, what democracy means to me i have to convince you to vote for me. if some of you don't vote for me, i can live with that. you have to hear what i have to say and that's what a democracy is about. what i will not accept is if somebody runs against me and buys the election by putting billions of dollars into a campaign. >> all right. let's get you caught up to speed on one more political story. it's four months since donald trump pledged to vote millions to veteran causes.

he pledged the money to vets back in january. that's when he opted not to attend the republican debate. his campaign manager corey lewandowski told "the washington post" that it was fully spent and then he later said that i don't know when corey would know when i gave it out. after being pressed the paper says that trump called the chairman of the marine corps law enforcement foundation on monday night to inform him the group would be getting the entire $1 million donation. the paper claims other big donors to trump's january fund-raiser made their gifts weeks ago. they're also -- there are questions of how much money was actually raised with trump telling the post he never said $6 million. here's the candidate at the event and then last night. >> this is a especially night for me. i had no idea this was going to happen. we started out literally 24 hours ago, maybe less, we had no idea and we went out. we set up the website. i called some friends. and we just cracked -- the sign

was just given, we just cracked $6 million. $6 million. donald trump gave $1 million. okay? they start sending in big checks for $1 million that i said i'll put up $1 million also. all of a sudden, we're like over $4 million, then over 4.5, 5. i said we can hit 6 or something. i think we raised 5.6 or 5.7. i didn't have to do that. it didn't have anything to do with the evening, i was making a speech. i said let's raise some money and now it's over $5 million. i said, that's great. all of a sudden, there's this -- then they start writing stories about why didn't this this group get it? why isn't the money going out fast enough? number one, we have to vet some of these groups. you know, we have to vet the vets, right? but why didn't it go out? and the money went out and it's about 5.6 or $5.7 million out of nothing. we had nothing.

and i got -- i was getting killed. i got killed. i said, i am the only one that can raise more than $5 million for the vets and get bad publicity. i mean, it was incredible. >> so trump says he took more time to give that gift because he had to vet the organization, but according to the post they have received $230,000 from the donald j. trump foundation, not to mention he received an award from that very group last year. well, after backlash from gop leaders, veteran affairs secretary bob mcdonald is clarifying comments he made comparing clinic wait times to lines at the disney theme parks. here's what paul ryan had to say followed by mcdonald's response to msnbc's andrea mitchell. >> when the v.a. secretary compared the lines at his agency to lines at an amusement park, we were dumb founded. this not disneyland or wonder land for that matter. veterans have died waiting in line for their care.

employee andrea constand at his mansion in 2004. cosby has not entered a plea but he said the encounter was consensual. he's repeatedly denied similar allegations from about 50 women. the taliban has appointed a successor to replace a top former leader killed in a u.s. drone strike. mullah akhtar mansour was slain saturday and one of his deputies will take over his old role. "the wall street journal" reports this morning u.s. intelligence tracked mansour using intercepted communications while he met with his family in iran. then while traveling back through pakistan, they sicced armed drones on himn his white toyota. he was the successor to omar, who was confirmed killed less than a year ago. the latest killing has shaken the taliban's confidence to move safely through pakistan. pakistan's interior minister said that the u.s. has sabotaged the peace process. toyota and uber has joined

the ride sharing companies that are forming partnerships. cnbc's hadley gamble has more on this. toyota will allow uber licenses or uber drivers rather to lease their cars for this partnership to work. >> that's right, thomas. the world's biggest automaker toyota has said they want to get more drivers on the road and they're planning to do this by leasing cars to uber drivers and that's all through the lending unit. of course, the bigger question is going to be if that's going to really work. they said that they want to put this program in these growing markets like the united states. but they said they're definitely not going to put the program in japan. now, also i want to mention a big and rather sad day for sports giant, sports authority. they have decided to go out of business. that's according to the latest reports that the federal judge said that a trio of liquidators will begin today. a closeout sale for the 463 stores across the united states after the company failed to find a bidder willing to keep them all open as a smaller retailer.

tornadoes in rural kansas. they didn't do a ton of damage. a couple of buildings got destroyed but these are cone tornadoes. some were fairly intense on the scale and because of the p topography of kansas, not a tree in sight, these are as photogenic as you can get. the storm chasers were hundreds of yards away from the tornadoes. some structures were hit. amazing pictures. that was near dodge city, kansas. so we're not going to see a lot like that today thankfully. we're still watching a few of the strong storms. this is what's left of the storms out here yesterday. arkansas, a lot of thunderstorms near you with some lightning. flooding in eastern oklahoma overnight. some thunderstorms across nebraska too. but these are weakening. even in des moines, you have some storms coming through. 17 million people were at risk. yesterday, some enhanced risk so hopefully less tornadoes today

and also there should be less coverage of storms. anywhere from minneapolis, des moines, st. louis late tonight and even wichita and oklahoma city you have a threat. the other story is we went like this. we went into the room, kind of chilly. we flipped the switch and near 90 today in new york city. it should be near 90 in washington, d.c., where we couldn't buy a day in the 80s all month long until yesterday. it continues into friday. 87 in detroit. so you get the picture here. we're kind of immediately going into summer whereas areas in the western half of the country going to be in the 60s and the 70s where the cool weather continues. it will stick with us through much of the holiday weekend too. so, you know, i hope everyone is ready. summer is just about here. >> a lot of people excited. they'll be happy to know they'll have that weather for the holiday. >> i don't want people complaining about the heat for one day. >> you'll be off the hook. thanks so much. still ahead, netflix is about to add to the movie collection in a major way.
