they're very alarming. guy, i have to cut you off here. this conference is starting early. >> we are trying to coordinate our efforts between minnesota and california with this investigation which is really complex. in addition, it is a sensitive issue that we are investigating and we are early in our investigation. so it is going to be limited information that we are able to provide to you at this time. >> what i can tell you this morning after midnight, lapd had called our police department requesting on a welfare check indicated this was related to the recent ucla shooting. the female lived at this address was on a hit list created by the shooter at the ucla incident. officers responded and made a

welfare check where they did locate the adult female of a gunshot wound. there is again very limited information i can provide beyond of what i have told you at this point. it is early in the investigation but i can tell you is we have multiple detectives working on this case and we are working los angeles police department to coordinate our efforts. >> i do not. >> any early indications on how long this woman's body was inside that house? >> what i can tell you is we believe at this point that she was deceased prior to the u.s. cla shoc

killed and they found out that the woman was on a hit list belonging to the shooter who's been identified as mainak sarkar, he's the 38 years old graduate student who opened fire at this time yesterday on the campus of ucla. we can tell you and we have guys with us and we can tell you that sarkar drove from minnesota to the los angeles area and shot his former professor. all of this according to officials and scotty shorts is -- scotty, let me bring you back to the conversation, what more do you know? >> that's right. last week's check, lapd is still looking for that car.

possibly used in the gunman to ucla to shoot his former professor. we know that lapd called minnesota police last night, basically they found a hit list that a woman in minnesota was on that list, they wanted police to go check to see if she's okay. when they went to check, they found her killed of what appears to be a gunshot wound. the ucla has a stocked pile of ammunition as well. the woman killed, believed to be sarkar's girlfriend. all of this is happening right before finals. it is a large campus of 40,000

kids are all put on lockdown in the engineering department. classes have been cancelled for today. classes is continuing throughout ucla. a lot of students found out there was a kill list and somebody else was kill by this former graduate student who may have also worked at ucla. very unnerving details coming to light and we are expecting to get more at this press conference at lapd head quarters in about 20 minutes. >> all right, gaddy, thank you. we'll come back to you in a minute. lets turn down to politics. hillary clinton is expected to pound donald trump next hour during our policy speech in san diego. trump getting into his tweet.

given her record, is that an accurate assessment? >> no, i think she's national security conscious and a progressive. tough national decision that you need as a commander chief, she made them. she did the benghazi and israel negotiations successfully and she completed the negotiation table. she restored our eye licensalli europe. we are not just electing a president. this is life and death and national security. donald trump has shown to be consistent in his youth but dangerous, he's a bully and he does not know foreign policy. and she shifts his position. in any of the policy positions that he's taken.

police then arrived on the scene. she was transported to the hospital in critical condition. when police went inside they found the three children stabbed to death, an eight earliersyeard a five years old and a two months old. the woman is probably going to pull through. from arizona to texas. rescue crews out all over the state trying to help folks unable to get out of their houses in time. this is a scene in fort ben county texas. a state of emergency has now been declared in more than 30 counties. you can see already record high flood waters as the rain is expected and it is expected to keep falling into the week.

>> good question. it was a 11 point in january. he's practicely living here and they believe by the time people go to vote in california on tuesday, he will been before 250,000 people and take a look at the people in line. they represent what those polls of msnbc on the field polls show. he's really far ahead on people under 40. he continues to push hard and it is really interesting when you take a look at these bernie people, among them -- take a listen. >> even if he wins, he won't have the delegates. i know the campaign pushes back against that but the numbers are really against him. >> if you talk about super delegates and some of them already changed. >> it will need to flip about 300 super delegates.

that news conference in los angeles is under way right now. this is l.a. police chief.

let's listen in. >> where additional information was located which led local authorities to a nearby town where a female was located in a residence with a gunshot wound causing her death. we believe sarkar to be the suspect at that time in that homicide and are working with minnesota authorities to close that case. we believe that sarkar came to the l.a. area very recently, within the last couple of days. he traveled from minnesota in a 2003 gray nissan sentra. license plate number is displayed right here, 72-ktw. we are still looking for that vehicle. we believe that vehicle will be unoccupied. we do not believe there are

outstanding suspects. but we also believe that vehicle may contain evidence which will help us to establish motive and put some pieces together in this case. case is ongoing. one of the pieces of evidence that i discussed today was that in the search of sarkar's residence in minneapolis, a list was located that had professor klug's name on it. another ucla professor's name on it, and the name of the female victim that was later located in the nearby town. and we -- that list has been described as a kill list. that was the wording that was put on it. and that was what led us to the residence in the nearby town. with that, i will answer questions. one at a time. i'll answer them. >> the girl's name -- >> i will not confirm the names

of either the young lady that was killed in minneapolis or the name of the professor who survived who was named on the kill list. that is not my investigation in minneapolis. i don't know if they've made proper notification to family. so i will not confirm or further elaborate on the identity of that victim. >> any idea when the minneapolis killing may have happened? >> within the last couple of days we believe. >> so presumably she got shot and he drives out here? >> that's what we believe. >> is there any reason to believe that he committed any other crimes while he traveled across the country? >> we are looking to that. there is no immediate evidence that would suggest that. that is one of the reasons that we want to find the car to see where that will lead us. robbery-homicide decision is working with the states between here and there to see if there is a trail. but there's nothing that leads us to believe that at this

do you have any indication that ucla was aware of those and was taking any sort of action? >> i don't know that. >> do you know the relationship between this woman and -- >> you know, i can't do that because i think it would too quickly lead to her identity. this is very much an agency outside los angeles police department's investigation. i don't know where they stand with notification of next of kin. i don't know where they stand with the other pieces of investigation they need to do. so i don't want to compromise that. >> family member -- >> i won't characterize. >> was the other professor named in the note, was that professor on campus and was there any indication that he intended to kill and then go after that second professor? >> well, we believe -- detectives believe and i support their belief that he went there to kill two faculty from ucla. he was only able to locate one. the second faculty member was

off campus according to information we have at the time that he arrived. i didn't mention this, but i'll mention it now. he was heavily armed. sarkar was heavily armed. he had two semi-automatic pistols, one that he used for the homicide, the other was in his backpack. he had multiple magazines of ammunition and multiple loose rounds of ammunition. he was certainly prepared to engage multiple victims with the ordinance that he had at his disposal. >> if so, has there reaction been any indication what the motive would have been -- >> we certainly have talked to that professor on multiple occasions now. made sure -- a, to make sure he was safe. be, to make sure he was notified. i won't -- i will characterize his response as the fact that he
