actually getting 34% of the vote with 15 people in the race is better than when i got 78% in california. and just remember this with california they had a lot of names on the board. they could vote for anybody they want because many of the names are up so when you get all of the numbers but all the tile hi to listen to this. i think it's the largest field in the history of elections. the 17 or 18 people that started. i was competing against all the governors and senators and very capable people like dr. ben carson that's a great guy by the way. and he endorsed me after the whole deal and chris christie endorsed me and he has been great. we have great endorsements. we have -- by the way we are so many great -- dana white endorsed me from ufc bob bb

knight endorsed me and so many people. >> donald trump live there in pennsylvania. katie is on the road with donald trump. joins us live right now. as we were just listening to donald trump talking about california. he is in pennsylvania. clearly two states on his strategy. >> he is talking about converting a few states but also added in a very blue state like california vowing he is going to win that. other than that this speech so far today and certainly the one in tampa and the one last night in richmond very much relitigating the primaries.

he is keeping track of who is with him now and who is not with him now. that certainly can be considered a threat to those that are not getting behind donald trump right now. in terms of party unity the candidate is calling saying he is going to get there. and mitt romney has been very vocal about that. martinez in new jersey he was trashing her for not attending his rally in new mexico though now he is trying to walk that back. the gop is trying to find out how much they can trust donald trump. sources telling me the big issue right now is what sort of candidate is he going to be and

party. that's just a statement of fact and a statement of the obvious because you have somebody that's said some really out rages you things so i don't think we can expect everybody to fall in line but we have to look at this fall. >> joining us now is a former aid and former spokesman for george h.w. bush. he was at the meeting sitting in there. how to get out of this depression mode really. >> there were two topics discussed in that meeting. number one is how do we deal with the donald and number two is how do we preserve our majority in the house and senate. the two are intertwined.

>> but if energy is low money might also be low and will that translate to the energy needed down ballot. >> that's one of the huge concerns. you need to have politics 101. a strong person at the top of the ticket otherwise the deterioration goes all the way down the ballot. money is a big factor. >> you probably saw speaker paul ryan challenged on his support of donald trump. he had to answer a tough question. is there a possibility that paul ryan will change his mind at some point? >> well, change his mind and cut the cord from donald trump? not yet. this is unpredictable. i'm way out of the prediction business but i would listen carefully to what they have just said. these are people that are

advisors and would seek input and give a better speech than right now. he is relitigating the primary when the best surrogate he may have out here now is just bobby knight. let me just do this quickly. i know you want to get back. right now hillary clinton has president obama, joe biden and dr. biden. they'll all be out there. any of these people, especially the top ones, biden, warren and bill clinton they could call into the shows just the same as donald trump can and the spokesmen he has on are not coming close to doing the job with all the stuff about his

business dealings coming out. >> he's asking to come together and help him. he needs them. who will it be? >> that will help him? >> yeah. i don't know. >> but that's a great point. why do we think donald trump was rely gating the primary? that's the last time he had any good news. donald trump doesn't know how to handle bad news. he doesn't know how to handle loss and defeat so he's reve reverting back to when he won the primary. >> to your point let's listen to this. what he said earlier. >> when i use a slightly off word slightly off. when i call this really bad senator. she has done nothing. she says she's native american and i said pocahontus. and somebody said to me one of the media, mr. trump, would you apologize?

police have not yet found a motive behind the shooting death of singer christina grimmie. a former contestant on the voice and youtube star. the 22-year-old signing autofwrafs after a performance in orlando on friday night and then a 27-year-old man walks up to her and opens fire. >> what our detectives are doing is going through the suspects cell phone and computer to see if they can find a motive for this crime. he had two handguns on his person and two additional loaded magazines for the handguns and a large hunting knife. >> nbc is in orlando with the latest on this. what are they telling you? >> they're describing what they saw and how unexpected and out of place it seemed. this is a concert for young people. it was casual and fun.

it was one of the best nights ever. everyone was having such a good time on stage and when they initially heard the shots they didn't quite realize what they were. listen to one of the witnesses describe what she heard. >> i heard three popping noises. and i was just so confused what was going on and a few minutes later a group of people just run out and this one girl comes and falls to the ground and crying and screaming and we don't know what's going on because no security is there. and they won't tell us anything. what's going on and we're just so lost and confused and immediately after the shots were fired grimmie's brother marcus tackled the gunman. police are crediting him with preventing anyone else from being killed or hurt last night. it was during the struggle that the suspect we were told shot himself. he died at the scene and now today fans have been coming by. you can see some of them behind

me embracing and leaving handwritten notes and flowers paying their respects and absorbing the shock of what happened last night. that of course is reverberating through social media and in hollywood. her coach on the voice adam levine, he released a statement. he was among those saying that she was a natural and gifted talent that comes along so rarely and that she was taken from us far too soon. sentiments a lot of people are feeling today. >> so many folks -- so well loved she was thank you. let's bring in bonnie fuller. she is editor and chief of hollywood online.com. >> this is completely devastating. nobody has any idea of any connection between this man and between christina but we know that her fans and her celebrity fans are absolutely devastated. she was really beloved.

like this which are very uncommon? >> i think we will see a pulling back by celebrities at least in the near term and justin bieber cancelled all of his meet and greets and it wasn't security concerns just he felt overwhelmed so i think we will see this pattern for a little while. >> and can you put this in context? that's where you have journalists lined up? it's meeting fans also in hollywood. >> it's very common to meet fans and do meet and greets. i think a lot of celebrities are going to be concerned about performing right now because they're on stage in front of thousands of people. >> what type of security is out there? >> there is security but we will

and the stars are lining up there for secretary clinton and what are the campaigns plans then this coming week? >> well there's a very busy schedule that will be picking up and it will show us a bit of the map for the fall. very different than the primary season where a calendar of when americans are voting in their respective states dictates the travel schedule so as you eluded to a little bit of a break this weekend. no public events. much needed rest and then over the next several days it's ohio, pennsylvania, north carolina, virginia and within that, wisconsin. where president obama will campaign with hillary clinton for the first time and as you also noted bernie sanders is still in this race. he is convening a group of his top supporters and allies in burlington, vermont, his home to talk about the future. he wants to allow voters that will still be able to cast a ballot tuesday in the very last primary here in washington d.c. to do that before we have a

sense of what happens next. but it doesn't mean that bernie sanders would immediately endorse hillary clinton. part of what he has always described is a movement. i have been out on the trail with him quite a bit and many of his supporters may need more time to come along to make their own decision to choose the democrat in the race if they have not been a supporter of hillary clinton. there's so many that it might be difficult and sometimes it takes the candidate extra time to bring those people along as well. he is not telegraphing yet what he will do other than to say he will help to fight against trump. the elizabeth warren endorsement was important because most women senators had already gotten behind hillary clinton. she was a hold out making it all the more important that she sided with clinton at this point. richard. >> thank you so much. kelly o'donnell there in washington d.c. joining us now is the democratic strategist and chicago sun times

washington bureau chief joining us. also is the former bill clinton speech writer. we'll start with you on this right now. as we look at her kicking off her cal pain next week president obama will be on the trail. can we estimate the energy he will bring to the campaign trail that has been written that she does not have and why the midwest? >> well, certainly president obama is going to be a huge asset for secretary clinton. no question. one aspect of it that doesn't get covered as much is the fact that look at all the publicity that she commanded this week. up until this point donald trump has been commanding all of the press. now with the president he liz belg warren she now has a news cycle that was her news cycle. that's what she needs going into this election because that's donald trump's main advantage. he understands how to generate media and understands how to leverage it so this was very

important for her for that alone. all of that earned media, that alone is tremendous for her. >> which she will get over the course of the time. >> exactly. the other piece that's important for her in terms of president obama is she is campaigning as someone that is tying herself to him and he needs to be out there making sure that he reminds people of what he has done and accomplished and how he has taken this country from a recession to the economy improving tremendously. so he needs to be out there pushing that point. >> lynn, two sides to every coin. president obama's approval rating is over 50%. the favor blt rating for secretary clinton is on the other side of that. he is popular with democrats but for people wanting to change is there danger to having him out there too much? what those who are critical of her say this is obama third term. >> it could be the bill clinton

third term too. but we're so close, we're so far away from president obama too far and i want to underscore a point that i made in the last segment about powerful surrogates. i'm not talking about campaign staffers on the air. i'm talking about principles in their own right that can command attention and call into shows and can drop your programming and say oh we have bernie sanders calling him now. and in the beginning that should be hillary clinton as bill clinton used to say that's a good problem to have. >> it's a great problem to have. and after receiving their endorsements i'll get to you. >> we are not going to let donald trump or anyone else turn back the clock. and he actually said women should be punished for having

abortions. anyone who would so casually agree to the idea of punishing women like it was nothing to him, the most obvious thing in the world, that is someone who doesn't hold women in high regard. >> david as a speech writer and as you look at what secretary clinton is doing when she was making the criticisms of donald trump and his temperament and then this speech it seems to be slower and lower. is that something that you're noticing at all? is it important? >> she has been hitting her stride with her campaign speeches and it's coming at exactly the right time. over the last two weeks and that speech last night with her victory speech on the night of the california and new jersey primaries and before that with the foreign policy speech in california she has been following the advice that i give her campaign in terms of

speeches. she is being direct and down to earth. the foreign policy speech in particular is a speech about foreign policy. i didn't speak foreign policy jargon. it was a simple direct language. >> you gave advice to the -- >> that's the advice that i give them. she's not playing defense. she is playing offense and playing in the primaries and branding him as being temporarily unfit to be president and she is saying that over and over again and that means that they're going to be making the same point against donald trump. and the terms and the rhetoric will make it toward november. >> she needs to speak in her own voice which isn't loud but is

residence lut and reasonable but just say straightforwardly what she has been saying which is to brand donald trump as being -- as she puts it unfit to be president. and she wants to lead the country. another thing she does in that clip that you play is she turns his claim about change upside town. and that's a very powerful point to make. >> may i make a quick point? >> very quickly. she has so many high powered principles that she could just talk about what a trump administration would look like and point out all of her points about the consequences of electing him. leave the insults alone. plenty of other people out there if they choose to, or they think it's a good idea to make them. >> i'm sorry all three. short time today at this 4:26 hour in the afternoon.

she celebrates the day of her birth but it's a smaller celebration. this celebration is the big state celebration with military parades. she examines her soldiers. there are marching bands that go down the street a fly over by the royal air force and the shot that we have seen before of the entire family out on the balcony at buckingham palace. very, very common. this is a big tradition with the royal family and of course for the first time this year we saw princess charlotte. she is 13 months old so a little bit too young last year to be out on the balcony but this is her first appearance there. the first of many. she will be there every year for the rest of her life most likely standing in support of the monarch. whoever that may be at any given time. they moved basically the official birthday celebration to june decades if not hundreds of years ago because of the weather essentially. the weather was deemed to be better in june.

there's one little problem with that richard and that is that the queens guardsmen wear bearskin hats and what do you get when you have a bearskin hat on in june weather? it was quite hot today. that's what you get. one of the guardsmen fainted, poor soul in the middle of the ceremony. could not have been a better stage. she was fine and taken away. it was just the heat but it happens. >> and the other is just having to stand there as others ran in to help him and the queen in that neon green. i guess that's so that everyone could see her regardless of how close or far you were. >> she usually wears pastels but on her official birthday celebration day she usually wears a very vibrant color so you can pick out even the tiniest bit of her hat even through all the crowds. that's about all i saw. >> kelly in london, thank you so much. >> happening now in the stanford

that's on going? >> there's several different petitions going on. we were showing video of boxes that were moving and that one is to symbolize the signature petition gathered and turned into the commission that oversees judges this week and that one will actually have an impact that will get about 80,000 signatures. those signatures could trigger a recall election locally. right now the judge has been running for office uncontested. no one running on the ballot with him. he's going to just coast into office so this recall petition if they can get the 80,000 signatures here locally then that will trigger another election with other people on the ballot and he could lose his seat but again the legal community here is saying this is about judicial independence. they are rallying around the judge saying he did nothing wrong and that he -- even though

people disagree with his sentence that doesn't necessarily mean that there was anything wrong with it and that decision should be respected. richard. >> 137 in the afternoon there in california. thank you. and this week over a dozen state lawmakers, they signed letters to the santa clara county district attorney and the california commission on judicial performance. they want a calling for review of the sentence given here. he is one of the state lawmakers and joins us right now. thank you for being with us. and one of those letters that you signed here, you believe that the judge engaged in misconduct. why? >> yes i think if you look at the situation here and as we get more details from this individual, you know, the fact that the judge knew that he had sent out pictures to his friends for the victim. the fact that he lied to the judge about his previous juice of alcohol and drugs i think

that we have a situation where we are asking for a review and we think that this individual got special treatment. >> what do you want to happen in the end? >> i think we want to see the sentenced overturn and the judge remover removed from the seat. he is on the ballot and running unopposed so he will keep his place as a judge. >> unless a write in candidate comes in and is able to unseat him. it's true our next option would then be a recall next spring. >> do you have an idea of who that might be? who should replace him? >> i'm just supporting the idea of looking at all political and legislative avenues to bring justice to all the victims out there. that's up to the local community to have their voices heard at the ballot box. an assembly woman speaking of victims as you know, one in four women in college do experience some sort of assault. how is a california legislative women's caucus looking to

improve awareness and ajude kags on college tam puss. >> we were talking to high school students about making sure that they're safe but i think ultimately this case and in general it's about taking a position saying that enough is enough and we need to end the rape culture and end the practice of putting the burden on the victim and putting the burden on the prerpetrator. >> what is one thing you have done to fix the problem? >> i have asked for the resignation of the judge. we'll continue to be the voice for the victims. we're looking at legislation to make sure that this is

considered rape in the future. right now it's not considered rape. we have to define or expand the definition of rape in the state clearly so we're just lending our voice and asking for this judicial review asking for the da in putting pressure there is how we're joining it and having a voice but we have legislation about yes means yes and we are holding universities more accountable. we are working to see what they are doing. we are demanding more information out there so we're exploring every avenue politically and legislative to improve the system and we're not going to start until it's corrected. it has gone on too long and this case is an example and a moment for the community to come together across the nation to say enough is enough. >> best of luck to you there an awareness. so important. california is aem bli member, appreciate it. up next, mitt romney steps up his criticism of donald trump warning about trickle down racism. today trump fires back. plus women for trump.

american people and pushing back on the narrative that women are against donald trump. there's nothing further from the truth. women when given the choice do you want somebody who is corrupt and under investigation by the fbi and that investigation is still on going or do you want somebody who takes action and gets things done and they're focused on the economy and jobs and safety and security i think that wil are going to choose the person that's going to get things done and that's jobs and the economy and safety and security, richard. >> let's talk about what your group is doing to get more women out to vote for donald trump. you have seen the recent polls. 7 to 10 women find trump unfavorable. his support among women is half of hillary clintons. how do you expect to get more women to go and vote for trump come november? >> why would you assume that more women are going to vote for hillary clinton just because she's a woman? that's an insult to me. don't assume that i'm going to vote for somebody just because they're my same gender. i want what is best for my

country. >> i was just giving you the numbers from the polls. >> but hillary clinton's numbers aren't better than donald trumps. >> if you can describe what your super pac is going to do to get more women to come out and vote for donald trump which is your effort regardless of what the polls are. >> that is our effort but we want to educate people on the kind of person that donald trump is. the kind of things that he has done. people keep calling him a racist and all of these things, jennifer hudson when her father was murdered in chicago, what did he do? when her mother was murdered he put her and her family up in the trump hotel and provided them security. darnell bartlet was a bus driver, driving a bus. sees a woman on the other side of the bridge. stops the bus and rescues the woman. saves her life. donald trump sends the man $10,000. never even knew him. he sent his airplane to take a child to a hospital that needed all of these surgeries that couldn't fly commercial. he is a good man.

>> we have breaking news out of orlando. police there revealing the identity of the suspect accused of gunning down christina grimmie. this picture of kevin james loibl. sarah joins us by phone from orlando with the breaking news. what do we know sarah? >> richard you know police have known for awhile now the

identity of the suspect but they wanted to get their investigators out before they released it to the public. they have now released it. 27-year-old kevin james loibl. you saw his picture there. he travelled from another florida city to orlando with the specific intent of attacking christina grimmie. they say he was armed with two handguns extra ammunition and a hunting knife and she was signing autographs and he shot her and her brother immediately tackled him and loibl shot himself. he died at the scene. as i mention going to the computer and cell phones looking for glues. at this point they do not believe she knew her attacker. they did release a statement saying this is a very preliminary investigation they have a lot of questions and they'll be working through the night to get that answered.
