wrapped up a nearly 15 hour filibuster to change the gun laws in this country after the senate majority will allow the votes. here is chris murray who led the filibuster. >> ask yourself what can you do to make sure that orlando or sandy hook never ever happens again. with deep gratitude to all of those who have endured this very, very late night, i yield the floor. >> moments ago, murphy tweeted this celebratory message saying quote i'm proud to announce that after 14-plus hours on the floor we will vote on closing the terror gap and universal back ground checks. it came after murphy took to the floor to launch a day long fill buster to protest inaction on gun control. 40 senators including two republicans called for tougher

gun control laws and specific action okeeping on terrorist watch lists from buying guns. >> i shudder to think what it will be like for senator nelson four years from now to talk to the parents of those that were killed this week in orlando and tell them that four years after orlando, eight years after newtown, congress has been utterly silent. >> donald trump also waded into the debate, an openness to restrictions that would ban people on the no watch list or no fly lists from getting guns. the nra's position on this issue has not changed, the nra believes that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase or possess firearms, period. anyone on a terror watch lists who tries to buy a gun should be thoroughly investigated by the fbi and the sale delayed while the investigation is ongoing. however, the nra calls for a due process protections and for law

abiding americans who are wrongly put on the watch list to be removed. now, when asked wednesday to clarify trump's stance on guns, campaign spokeswoman hope hicks said he's already stated his position on this. he looks forward to what he thinks will be a productive meeting. the day and night filibuster came as pat toomey was in negotiations on his gun control bill which michael bloomberg's group mayor against guns -- that's who he was in contention with. and dianne feinstein was crafting a measure two senator cornyn. both centered on bills that was voted down late last year. it failed 54-45 in december. meanwhile, the senate homeland security committee was asking the fbi to turn over its files on the orlando gunman omar mateen in a letter released yesterday. they asked the fbi to provide records related to two previously closed investigations

concerning mateen. that comes as the same committee sent a letter to ceo mark zuckerberg for information on his online activity before the pulse nightclub act. and president obama and joe biden will meet with the survives and the victims' families. make mccoy, what can you tell us about this investigation? >> reporter: good morning. it's been four days since that shooting and the fbi continues to process this crime scene. we can tell you that an initial review of the shooter's cell phone has not turned up evidence that he was researching other targets beyond the pulse night club. apparently the shooter did make a phone call to a local tv station, pledging his support to isis. a producer picked up that phone call. that's in addition to the 911 call he made from inside the club and we're also learning that the shooter claimed to have explosives on him during that 2 1/2 hour standoff with

authorities. he was threatening to put hostages with explosives strap around them on each corner of the building so that gives you an idea that the officers were working through when deciding whether or not to go in. president obama is expected to visit today with survivors and with families of the victims and with first responders. sadly for the president, these have become routine visits for him. he's visited charleston, south carolina, sandy hook, san bernardino and now orlando which has become the deadliest mass shooting of them all. betty? >> blake, thank you for that. a hacker has linked a treasure trove of documents reportedly stolen from the democratic national convention including a 200 page opposition research book detailing the party's plans to battle donald trump. now, this research book is mostly filled with previously reported stories, public comments and bio graphical information on trump. but it provides insight into where democrats see his vulnerabilities are. the documents stem from a hack that the dnc confirmed on

tuesday and the book shows a seven pronged attack against trump laid out as follows. one, he has no core. two, his campaign is divisive. three, he is a bad businessman. four, his policies are dangerous. five, he's demeaning and offensive to women. six, he's out of touch and seven, his past personal history is disqualifying. now, trump responded to the leaked documents last night when speaking to fox's greta van susteren. >> have you heard from debbie wasserman schultz? >> well, knowing her i don't actually know her, but i sort of understand her. maybe they weren't hacked, maybe they just wanted to get it out there. no, i have not heard. they have not apologized and they probably should be apologizing. >> a senior dnc official said, quote, we believe today's release and the claims around it may be a part of a disinformation campaign by the russians. we have deployed the recommended technologies so that today our

systems are secure thanks to a swift response to that attack and we will continue to monitor our systems closely. well, gawker was the original media organization to publish the documents. a second batch have also been linked and they include donor info the hacker got when he got into the system. this comes at the end of the day then we the trump campaign was sputtering as the negative rating was now up to 70%. even republican governor larry hogan has now added his name to the growing list of republican officials not voting for trump in the fall. yesterday, trump continued to double down on his attacks on president obama. where trump spent the first few days of the week hinting that obama was supporting terrorists and he said, media fell all over themselves about what donald trump insinuated about potus. it was the link to the story by

the 2-year-old from the water and that body has now been turned over to the orange county medical examiner's office for an autopsy. >> nbc's sarah dallof is joining us from lake buena vista. what's the latest on the investigation? >> reporter: well, good morning. just a heart breaking end to this search. around 2:30 yesterday, authorities say they did recover the body of lane graves. he was just 2 years old as you mentioned. he had been playing in the water just a foot into the water with his father when that alligator attacked. authorities say his body was found intact. they believe the alligator pulled him into the water and drowned him near the point where he was last seen. an autopsy will be perform and disney said they'll be reviewing the entire event including the signage.

well, welcome back to "first look." dangerous heat wave and possibility dead heat wave in the middle of the country. 60 million people under a heat visery. -- advisory. it goes from tulsa to the oklahoma city area. check on the elderly especially as it gets to the peak heating later on this afternoon. for today it will feel like 110 in tulsa. it will feel like 110, that's a new factor in the temperature and the humidity. widespread, 110, could sneak up to 115.

chris murphy they will hold votes on the two amendments to actually do something to stop terrorists from getting guns. but to actually -- for those things to pass, democrats will have to persuade a few republican senators to get on board. and it looks like donald trump's tweet yesterday may help things move along because it could provide cover to republicans to say to their voters, if trump supports some of these limits, then they will be more likely to support them with democrats today. >> well, i was going to get to that. are gun control advocates finding an unlikely ally in donald trump now? >> who would have thought a guy who brags he likes the second amendment and he went on a gun trip with his sons to iowa, who would think this guy would be tweeting about gun control, but looks like it may be kind of an indication of where the country is. given that trump is -- he kind of calls them as he sees them.

and he sees that it's kind of ridiculous to not do anything after such a horrible massacre on sunday morning. >> well, speaking of calling it as you see it, trump is meeting with the nra. are they worried that he could lean toward the left on this issue? >> you know, trump is -- he used to be a democrat and so it's not inconceivable that he is taking these positions. remember that the last time that there was significant gun control legislation was a decade ago after virginia tech. and with all of these massacres in the last couple of years, it seems like the country is kind of in a different place than it used to be. the politics on the issue -- seems to have changed because of the just the number of horrible incidents. >> so if trump does lean to the left on this, could that be a bigger problem for the gop? >> i don't -- it -- trump is dragging the gop kind of across the finish line and telling them that they have to really, you
