for first time since sunday's deadly attack. he said a threat to all americans was made and he called for a tight upping of the gun laws. they delivered 49 white roses in memory of those lost. they grieved with the families. speaking at a makeshift memorial the president said counterterrorism actions overseas can never prevent lone wolf attacks here at home. >> given the fact that the last two terrorist attacks on our soil, orlando and san bernardino, were home grown, carried out not by external plotters, not by a vast network, or a sophisticated cell, but by deranged individuals warped by the hateful propaganda they had seen over the internet, then we're going to have to do more

to prevent these kind of events from occurring. it will take more than just our military. >> a vote on stricter gun control laws is scheduled in the senate on monday following democrat's marathon filibuster earlier this week. however, house speaker paul ryan poured some cold water on the measures when speaking to nbc's chuck todd. >> we're looking at the corwin amendment and make sure we get this right. the question right now is, if someone is on a terror watch list, are the authorities notified as to whether a person on that list is trying to purchase a gun or not? that is the procedure right now. so the question is, can we make sure that that procedure works the way it is supposed to work. >> on thursday, cia chief brennan delivered an extreme isis threat. >> the fact that isil has been able to rapidly develop capabilities in other countries, this is a global challenge. if the numbers of isil fighters

senator ron johnson writes, mateen searched pulse orlando and shooting as victims lay dying. a senior law enforcement official tells nbc news, during the massacre mateen posted you kill innocent women and children by doing air strikes, now taste islamic state vengeance. armed with two weapons during the shooting, an employee at this gun shop tells us mateen tried to buy ammo and body armor here two months ago. but was turned down because something felt wrong. meantime, the funerals for the victims began, juan guerrero had finished the first year at college. his boyfriend killed by his side will be laid to rest. the first of 49 funerals, in a city overwhelmed with grief. now to politics, democrats must unite in an effort to defeat donald trump but it must transform. that was the message bernie sanders sent in a live stream video to supporters last night.

the video was touted over the past several days as an important message on the democratic race. however, sanders said he would join hillary clinton to defeat donald trump, but he was nowhere near conceding the democratic primary. >> defeating trump cannot be our only goal. we must continue our grass roots effort to create the america that we know we can become. and we must take that energy into the democratic national convention on july 25th in philadelphia where we will have more than 1,900 delegates. >> well, that was live streaming, and hillary clinton racked up a high profile vote of confidence from former republican deputy secretary of state richard armitage. he served ronald reagan and george h.w. bush. this comes as clinton installs her own chief of staff, effectively taking over operations there, leading into the fall.

about a mechanical bull. but it seems trump isn't the only one making extreme statements of late. senator john mccain said that president obama was directly responsible for the orlando attack. >> barack obama is directly responsible for it, responsibility for it lies with president obama and his failed policies. because he pulled everybody out of iraq and i predicted at the time that isis would go unchecked and there would be attacks on the united states of america. it's a matter of record. so he is directly responsible. >> mccain attempted to clean up those remarks with nbc's hallie jackson. >> the president had not pulled everybody out of iraq, we would have never seen the rise of isis. so he bears responsibility. >> so i want to be clear. are you back tracking on the statement he's directly responsible? that's the quote. >> i'm saying that the president of the united states' actions

>> so does this leave sanders' supporters confused right now? do they fight on for sander, do they choose clinton, what do they do? >> it's definitely a transition time for sanders' supporters. yesterday, we saw congressman raul grijalva switch from bernie sanders to hillary clinton and i think we'll see more of that. >> interesting to see what happens between now and then. then of course there's this, we have been talking about it all week long. especially with the filibuster in light of the massacre there in orlando. how likely is the chance of congress passing gun control legislation? >> it seems unlikely. there are a number of factionsen the left and the right pushing competing gun proposals and while they're meant to prevent another massacre like orlando, the impasse is between say a
