a very good sunday to you and happy father's day to all you dads out there on this day. i'm richard lui. it is 4:00 p.m. in the east and 1:00 p.m. in the west at this hour. donald trump refusing to hold back on his attacks on the gop elite. if the party does not rally around him, he is willing to go it alone. >> i'm a different kind of a candidate. i think that i win either way. >> new numbers showing hillary clinton dominating donald trump in key battleground states on the air waves. she embarks on a big week of fundraising. capitol hill compromise.

lawmakers set to debate gun control once again on a monday just hours from now, but this time in the wake of the worst mass shooting in u.s. history and amid unified calls from both sides of the aisle to get something done. >> obviously, we want to be able to have the tools we need to stop individuals from obtaining guns who should not have them. >> we want to make sure we get this right. >> this has people gather aroun the globe. some showing solidarity with a permanent memorial vowing to never forget. this hour we start with donald trump attempting to take on his own party for their lack of support. he may self-fund his campaign and go it alone if things don't change. >> i think that i win either way. i can win one way or the other. >> with them or without them? >> i do believe that. if it were short of money from

myself, i would put up my own money. >> how much would you put up? >> i would put up whatever i need to win. i'd put up my own money. people have to contribute money. people have to endorse. people have to really come through. >> money. jacob rascon has been following the trump campaign. trump is off the campaign trail today, as you know. you're watching apple this weekend announcing it would not provide funding or support for the convention because of controversial comments made by trump. he's talking money there with halle jackson. this is happening with businesses that are typically funding the convention. how crucial is this? >> reporter: there's no reporting that we've seen that suggests there will be a funding crisis at the convention. you have big companies like microsoft, google, facebook, at&t who are all funding the convention.
1:03 pm
but this feud between donald trump and apple is interesting. it's one of the examples that shows donald trump is willing to pick a fight with just about anybody. he said after of course the san bernardino attacks -- he went after apple for refusing to open the phone. even called for a boycott of apple. he said apple should be making their phones in the u.s. instead of overseas. some have mentioned that some of trump's own merchandise is also made overseas. he's had this ongoing feud with apple. apple has said they will not fund the convention at all. he's had feuds with some of these others, but nobody but apple has come out and said this. many companies are funding the gop convention. it doesn't appear there will be an actual crisis in fundraising for the convention. >> jacob, thank you for that. trump will need all the support he can get to take on hillary

clinton. her campaign and outside groups are now spending over $20 million on tv ads in these eight key battleground states. >> what kind of america do we want to be? dangerously divided or strong and united? i believe we are always stronger together. >> there are no donald trump ads. he and republicans have spent zero dollars on them so far in the states that could decide the election. on the same day trump threatened to self-fund his campaign, the hill is reporting trump's campaign sent an e-mail to raise $100,000 each to get ads on the air. he said this as well. >> you told me recently that your campaign hasn't even really started yet. >> we really haven't started yet. we start pretty much after the convention. >> what's taking so long? why wait? >> we're doing very well.

millions of dollars just this weekend. >> not as much as her. >> i don't think we need frankly as much. she's selling to wall street and the wall street fat cats with putting up a lot of money for her. i don't want that kind of money. i don't think i need that money. >> for more on that, let's bring in a political reporter for memo and a democrat strategist and republican strategist. let's start with this money question. he says he doesn't need the money and he'll spend his own. that could be $1 billion. if he does try to raise more money, when does he get too far behind this eight ball? >> i think we have to remember the clinton campaign through some capacity either through super pacs or some other means has been trying to raise money a long time preparing for her to win the nomination. if she already starts to put ads up in big battleground states --
1:06 pm
we have heard there's eight states she's putting ads up in -- it is very easy to fall behind quickly. we'll have to see if donald trump can kick this into gear. >> as he looks at the money, his purse right now, he's only got 30 staffers in the swing states. is this a problem because he doesn't have the money? is that why he is waiting to get more staff in these key areas? >> he's always managed this race with a very thin staff from day one and it's treated him very well. now you have the general election. you have to focus on states for a longer period of time. it's a very different scenario. number one, the small donors, that stuff should have been done on day one for him. >> $100,000 now. >> that's a bigger dollars. he has a great opportunity to fund this campaign i believe from people who will write checks and support him online
1:07 pm
ala bernie sanders. second thing, this convention is earlier than the previous ones. with that issue, it's less of an issue than mitt romney had. he had issues of running out of money between the primaries and nomination convention. he has a month less to worry about that. then you have the olympics that are going to eat up a lot of time. there's a point there i think that is different than it was before. the other thing that creeps in here is in ohio they start early voting. a lot of those things cost money to organize early. >> i'm going to go to paul ryan and what he said today on "meet the press." >> if they decide to change the rules, which they can do, you're comfortable with however they change the rules? >> you're asking the wrong person. you should ask the party.
1:08 pm
i think the rules committee meets the week before. >> if you have a opinion on this, it matters to them. >> my opinion is not relevant here. i'm not going to tell the delegates how to do their jobs because i am chair of the convention. >> there's talk of them wanting to unbind and move past this. do you think it is improbable as we look at the rules? >> i think it is not improbable, but they'll definitely try. i have a number of republican friends here in florida who are going to the convention. they're pledged to vote for trump right now, but they'd rather not vote for trump. there are a number of people out there who would love to do something different. i think they'd have a better shot of winning. trump is certainly not dead yet, but he's in a place where it is difficult to come back. >> we've heard about this possibility. now it is closer to the rules committee. the energy is closer to the

unfavorabili unfavorables or the temperament that hillary clinton is bringing up? >> hillary clinton has the same problem. if you've got your opponents unfavorables above 35, you can win. that went out the window in this campaign. i think what he has to do is get back on message. he has to downunify the party. it is fine for them to talk about it. there are factions of the party that are going to try to figure out what they can to push trump out. i don't see it happening. the party will unify. what do you do going forward to unify going after hillary? >> the unfavorables, they cancel each other out or not? >> the problem for trump is it is hard for him to get donors excited to raise money for him with his numbers at what they are now. and the problem he's got right

now isn't television. a lot of these states have early voting deadlines which are early in the cycle. where clinton has a huge advantage, she has staff on the ground and registered voters. >> thank you all. talki i thanks for coming in on that father's day. >> thank you. it has been one week since the deadliest mass shooting in u.s. history. vigils continue to be held for the 49 slain victims. 20,000 people are expected to attend a vigil outside the pulse nightclub tonight. loretta lynch says transcripts of the 911 calls between the gunman and law enforcement will be made public tomorrow. >> he talked about his pledges of allegiance to a terrorist group. he talked about his motivations for why he was claiming at that time he was committing this horrific act.

he talked about american policy in some ways. the reason why we're going to limit the transcripts at this point is to avoid revictimizing the victims in this tragedy. >> what more can you tell us about the investigation and the latest there? >> reporter: good afternoon. the fbi is preparing to release these transcripts. they continue to process the scene inside pulse nightclub. this as nbc news has learned from a senior law enforcement official an analysis of the shooter's belongings turned up no manifesto, no suicide note, no writings that would indicate his mind-set leading up to the attack. a search of mateen's devices, his laptop, and his internet history, there is some indication on those that he did use dating sites. however there no dating apps found on his cell phone. meanwhile more of the injured

>> thank you so much. as was mentioned, it's been one week since the tragedy in orlando. an isis media outlet has released a new seeking to try to capitalize on that attack. to talk about that, ayman, and another correspondent. these videos coming out today. what's in them? what are they trying to say? >> they're featuring fighters that are insigciting more attac. they're praising omar mateen as a soldier of the caliphate in the united states. they're trying to capitalize on the orlando shooting, inciting more attacks. it appears to be a coordinated media campaign to exploit the tragedy and for propaganda value. >> when you look at this and as
1:16 pm
you have been following this in the field, how are these different than what you have seen before? >> well, in some ways they're very similar in terms of the timing, the nature of the discussion, the nature of the people that are profiled, the messaging. but i would say one thing that is different is it does not necessarily have any direct video or element that shows omar mateen was directly coordinated by isis cells or isis leadership in syria or iraq. when you saw some of the footage came out following the paris or brussels attack, a lot of the isis propaganda showed those attackers in different settings. mostly on the battlefields of syria and iraq. in this, we didn't see that. most of the content that is related to the orlando shooting is stuff that is harvested from news organizations, news clips that have been online or satellite television. in that sense, it is a little bit different. it doesn't have a will or testimony that has been put out attributable to the isis group on behalf of omar mateen, which
1:17 pm
would then show a much stronger relationship between the organization and the attacker he pledged allegiance too. >> what did you see given what ayman was just mentioning? >> he is absolutely right. there is no indication that omar mateen was directed by the group. it is an attempt of exploiting this and capitalizing on the frenzy. they featured a couple of individuals who spoke in english. again, it's an element of fear just to add people who are spee speaking english to add more attacks to orlando. >> more of a victory lap you saw in these two videos? >> a victory lap from the chaos and the video footage of the orlando attack to use to reemphasize the point they want to make, which is to call on these lone wolf type of attacks
1:18 pm
to go out and be carried out by individuals. in fact, i believe the messaging on that was very directed towards individuals. be yourself kind of thing. i don't want to quote it specifically to avoid propagating it, but it was something along those lines. that's what they want to do. they take these events. they try to be opportunistic about them. they claim responsibility and then try to inspire other attacks. that's why this is a difficult challenge for law enforcement to try to get a hold of. you don't know who is going consuming this around the world and then radicalizing by the message and the propaganda that's being beamed into people's cell phones and laptops and what have you. >> thank you both for analysis on what just came out within the last three or four hours. appreciate it. gun control front and center this week on capitol hill.

fortune 500 space. donald trump is a real estate developer. how does she parse that because those are two very different definitions? >> i don't know that she's going to need to do it. she's going to say, look, this is a person who has profited at great expense off others. it is going to be trump's job to respond. to trump's credit, i think he generally has a way of deflecting a lot of this criticism that a lot of others who have had business success haven't been able to do. i think trump is going to take a different approach. it's not up to clinton. it is going to be up to trump to define the ground differently. >> at this point in the election, as you saw in our previous graphic, they had moved quite well along when it came to spending on ads here. the headlines today donald trump may not have the money, saying he will go it alone. you have fortune 500 companies

like apple and motorola saying they're not going to sponsor the gop convention. >> he doesn't necessarily believe in the power of paid advertising or the power of things that traditionally candidates have relied on. he's about the power of a donald trump rally. he's about his own brand. i think what you're going to see a very different campaign shaping up. he believes he is his own best advocate and he'll be able to drive news in a way that no one else will. >> he is reaching out and using that approach, whether it is money or not. there are swing votes he is possibly going after. you just wrote an op-ed that you co-authored in the "wall street journal." you point out obama taking 70%

of the jewish vote in 2012 and 73% of the asian-american vote. how will this come to bear this election? >> there's no question that particularly in the asian community there's been a tremendous shift toward the democratic party over the last three or four cycles. don't forget in 1988 republicans got the support of asian americans when george w. bush topped the republican ticket. i think the question will be how donald trump will fare among asian americans. so far the evidence has been pretty mixed. asian americans are an important constituency in states like ohio. it will behoove both the republican and democratic parties to pay attention to what i believe is an important voting block. >> the message doesn't appear to be working well with his comments on immigration. >> there is some cross pressure there. can donald trump make the case to asian-american voters on issue dynamics they may care

they don't have to deal with. i was able to provide a little insight there. but whenever you're dealing with a disaster of this magnitude and just trying to get people to realize that orlando is a united community, we're encouraging people to continue to give donations. they will be used for the families. it is just about assisting people. no, of course i was in agony. it was heart wrenching. you see the families. i will never forget drew's mother in the street crying. that's something i will never forget. i will never forget the young lady that was on snapchat as she was shot. now as i'm walking down the street and i see a stain on the sidewalk i think of the blood. and my experience was nothing compared to what other people's experience were. something that has changed me forever, but my role i think is to continue to tell people hatred is what killed these young people.
