"first look" starts right now. good morning, yeeveryone, i dara brown. it is party time in cleveland. for the first time in 52 years the city has a championship. they beat them 93-89 in game seven to win their first ever nba championship. they also became the first team in nba history to come back from a 3-1 series deficit to win the finals. lebron james led the way with a triple double. he is the only -- only the third player in history to have a triple double in game seven of the finals. james was unanimously voted finals mvp. he made kyrie irving call james the best player on the planet

and compared him to ludwig van beethoven. he is's the only person in history to lead both neems assists, steals, rebounds and blocks. afterwards lebron celebrated with his kids. >> for us to be able to end this, end this drought, our fans deserve it. they deserve it. it was for them. i came back for a reason. i came back to bring a championship to our city. when i came back i knew i had the right ingredients and blueprint to help this franchise get back to a place we've never been. >> president obama also jumped in tweeting what a game and what a series for the cavs. happy to see king james bring it home for cleveland. and back home thousands of ecstatic fans, they took to the streets for the celebration packing the downtown completely, and they deserve it. the city hasn't had a major sports title since 1964. congrats to them. an estimated 50,000 people gathered for a vigil last night

in remembrance of the 49 victims of last week's orlando nightclub massacre. the crowd circled around lake yola in downtown orlando to light candles in honor of the victims. many dressed in pride colors and held flags in support. others held signs with messages, some reading, love always conquers hate. and free hugs. the names of all 49 victims were read. after each name the crowd chanted, we remember them. and how's this for perfect timing, at one point a full rainbow appeared overhead prompting cheers from those on hand. the fbi set to release phone calls from omar mateen and hostage negotiators in the siege. it comes as isis puts out a propaganda video. nbc's gabe gutierrez has more. >> reporter: seeking to capitalize on the nightclub massacre, isis released a propaganda video.

the video shows a man speaking english claiming to be an american, but investigators are still trying to pinpoint the orlando gunman's exact motive. a senior law enforcement official says so far they've found no manifesto or anything resembling a suicide night. there is some indication on his internet history that he may have used dating websites though they have not found dating apps on his cell phone. >> where we are in this investigation, talking to everyone who had any kind of contact with this killer. >> reporter: on "meet the press" attorney general loretta lynch said they would release transcripts but they didn't say if his wife would face charges. >> it's too early. >> reporter: here in orlando from a crowded soccer match to a crowded tattoo parlor. >> to always remember. >> reporter: the focus is not on

the killer but those healing. attorney general loretta lynch will travel to orhlan da tomorrow for a briefing as the investigation continues. today the senate will vote on four gun control measures that supporters say would keep guns out of the hands of terrorists. it comes after last week's marathon filibuster from senate democrats led by connecticut senator chris murphy. gun control proponents are hoping that this time it could be different. nbc's tracie potts reports. >> reporter: as emotion spills over for the victims in orlando -- >> we're going to try to get the votes on monday night. >> reporter: the u.s. senate today considers four gun control measures, two from democrats and two from republicans. the strictest from senator dianne feinstein would ban sales to people on terror watch lists and others under investigation. >> 99.5% are foreigners. they come in.

there's reason for them to be suspect. they'll go through the same appeal process anybody else goes through. >> reporter: the republican alternative delaying gun sales for three days pending court review. donald trump says it's time for the u.s. to consider racial profiling targeting people based on race or religion. >> i hate the concept of profiling, but we have to use common sense. >> reporter: the national rifle association argues gun control isn't the answer to stop mass shootings like orlando. >> it's like they're trying to stop a freight train with a piece of kleenex. >> reporter: the other votes up is making it harder to restrict sales to the mentally ill. none of those measures are expected to pass. presumptive republican nominee donald trump now suggests the united states should seriously consider profiling muslims inside the country as a way to fight terrorism. >> i hate the concept of profiling, but we have to start

using common sense and we have to use -- you know, we have to use our heads. we really have to look at profiling. we have to look at it seriously. other countries do it and it's not the worst thing to do. >> house speaker paul ryan made no second guess for the will of the people. he told chuck todd that he continues to support trump while making clear he would not try to stop any rebellion against trump in cleveland. that came as the democrats want a full assault against trump. hillary clinton is expected to give an economic speech tomorrow hitting trump mercilessly in the state of ohio and will follow it up with another speech in north carolina on thursday. vice president joe biden could go after trump once more. he gives a policy speech this afternoon then there was senator elizabeth warren. in her new hampshire state convention speech this weekend she went after trump over and over again. meanwhile, clinton and outside groups are spending some $23

new mexico border evacuated people. it's grown to 8,000 acres. the firefighters worked around the clock in the sweltering heat to save dozens of threatened homes. >> probably the hardest work i've ever done. it's back breaking, wears your body down. >> in new mexico the dog head fire has already devoured 17,000 acres just south of albuquerque. less than 7% is contained since it began a week ago. hundreds there have been given evacuation orders. meanwhile, in arizona, record temperatures and low humidity fueled a 12,000 acre fire. nearby counties were placed on alert for possible evacuation. the blistering heat proved to be deadly for some. in arizona at least 4 people in their 20s died in separate heat-related incidents. temperatures hit triple digit

highs. the first victim was hiking on saturday on a trail outside of phoenix. on sunday a woman who worked as a personal trainer died during a morning trek despite packing plenty of water. later that day two hikers had to be rescued by helicopter. one was treated at a local hospital, the other died before deputies could help him. and even when night fell another group succumb to the heat. rescue crews found a man dead along a canyon trail and they're still searching for a missing person. well, with that weather here's nbc meteorologist bill karins. >> amazing. not many people hike in 120 degree temperatures. that's in the shade. yesterday may have been the peak. today will be the peak in others. sunday/mon is the peak of this record heat wave. 26 million people under excessive heat warnings. yuma hit 120 yesterday. phoenix didn't even come close

to their 122 all-time record high. they topped out at 118. temperatures will inch down but be well above normal. 115 to 116. palm springs, possibility of being up to 123. tucson 111. the temperatures come down a little. we'll go from 114 to 110. yuma goes from 112 to 113. phoenix will be 112 to 115. this is still well above average. really no relief in sight. we'll have a chance of severe weather today. 20 million people at risk from kansas city to the ohio valley. cleveland, syracuse, buffalo, eventually pittsburgh, too. the cold front will sink to the south and bria long with it thunderstorms. st. louis, at 99 degrees. at 6:34 p.m. we officially kick into summer. >> i know.

prince william appealed pizzaz around the world on father's day. he's asking them to be mindful of their children's health. in an editorial it says it can be hard for fathers to talk about their feelings urging many more to be more open. the father of two wants dads to take a moment to ask their children how they're doing. in addition to the cavs epic final game 7 there was another big event. dustin johnson can drop the title best golfer to never win a championship. the man who famously choked came through. he took the u.s. open with a three stroke lead despite getting hit with a late penalty stroke. johnson becomes the fifth player to win the open a year after finishing runner up. reports of republican intimidation tactics coming into play. scrambled politics is up next.

trump while others are mandating a trump vote through pledges. house speaker paul ryan made it clear he wouldn't try to obstruct a possible trump revolt. >> it is not my job to tell delegates what to do, whatnot to do or weigh in on things like that. they write the rules, they make their decisions. all i want to make sure is it's done above board, clearly, honestly and by the rules. the last thing i'm going to do is weigh in and tell delegates what to do. >> apple has told leaders they won't provide any funding or anything for the gop next month. the company cites donald trump's controversial statements on women and minorities as the key reason. earlier this month buzz feed also terminated an ad deal with the republican national committee. former and possible future first daughter chelsea clinton gave birth to her first son this weekend. she and her husband welcomed home their newborn baby boy aidan saturday morning. it was an especially happy

>> gosh, i wish it were. history teaches us we need to be pessimistic on this. exactly a year ago we were having this same conversation after the charleston shootings and here we are again. i don't know. something could happen, but i'm not counting on it. >> what do you think is it the biggest hangup with gun legislation? >> well, there's such intense opposition. it's not a huge number of americans opposed to it, but, boy, they are intense. the nra is a powerful lobbying group. it's tough politics. >> over the weekend donald trump says that he is open to profiling muslims and this is on the heels of the orlando massacre. are americans going to be more open to this? >> it's interesting. the same time the gun thing is stalled i sense no. i think that even republican leaders have come to believe, as most law enforcement officials, that, you know, that's not really a very practical thing to do. it violates some of our values as americans. in fact, probably wouldn't be that effective. >> but trump does say that other countries profile and it doesn't

work well. >> well, that's true. israel does and in fact there are lots of nations that engage in all kinds of activities that we don't do here. most top law enforcement people that i talk to say, you know what, it's really much better to judge people by their behavior and their activities than by their religion or their ethnic group. it in the long run doesn't necessarily target that effectively. so i've got to tell you, it's popular in some corners but i don't think it's going to happen. >> hard to imagine a democratic united states of america can be profiling people like that. >> yeah, you know what, i don't know that it's a party issue at that point. i think when you get down to the mechanics of it. while the slogan might be appealing, there are people in the world who are scared of and want to do something about it, when you come down to how you would put that into practice and how many people it would apply to, i don't know, i think most experts say, man, let's come up with better ideas. >> what do you think a key point would be to passing the

legislation today? >> well, there's clearly great feeling across the political spectrum. what happened was so awful. don't forget, we have 12,000 people a year murdered by guns in this country. that's a rate of 25 times more than the average developed country around the world. seems like we've got to be able to do something. isn't there some reasonable thing we can agree on that would actually make that a little bit better? but, boy, we've failed so far. >> we have, but maybe it's time. >> high time. let's get it done. >> ellis henican, let's get it done. just ahead, it was a record weekend at the box office and "finding dori" proved mightiest of all.
