good morning. it is monday, june 20th. i'm chris jansing and this is a story more than 50 years in the making. the cleveland cavaliers are the new nba champions. lebron james promised the city a win, and in the end he took them to the promised land, even if it was on the home court of the warriors in oakland. james notched a triple double, 27 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists making game seven the third straight loss for the warriors taking home the trophy for the finals mvp. >> for us to be able to end this, end this drought, our fans deserve it. they deserve it. and it was for them. >> do we ever deserve it. as for the fans back in cleveland, well, this video speaks for itself, celebrating the end of a championship drought. cleveland now the first team to battle back from a 3-1 series deficit to win the nba title.

now some fans did get a little bit rowdy last night. a group jumped on the back of a fire truck, another group was caught on cell phone video shaking a traffic light. that's about as rowdy as we get in cleveland. the police tweeted this quote, so far not many arrests but a lot of happy fans. stay safe, cleveland, and keep it classy. we will have full highlights coming up in sports. a little later this morning, the fbi will release a partial transcript of omar mateen's phone calls with police during the orlando mass shooting just over a week ago. attorney general loretta lynch, who will visit orlando tomorrow, says the transcript will show some of the back and forth between mateen and hostage negotiators. >> you say partial. what's being left out? >> well, what we're not going to do is further proclaim this individual's pledges to allegiance of terrorist groups. >> we're not going to hear him talk about those things? >> we will hear him talk about some of those things but we're not going to hear him make his

assertions of allegiance and some of that. >> isis has released a new propaganda video as they have done during past shootings. the video shows a man speaking english claiming to be an mesh. in orlando 50,000 people attended a candlelight vigil. the names of each victim were read aloud. a rainbow appeared. amid division and demands for action, the senate will vote on four gun control measures. two amendments proposed by republican lawmakers, the other two by democrats. the competing proposals talk about background checks and the refusal to sell to people on the watch list. donald trump is talking about how to keep the country safe, even finding himself at odds with the nra. >> what happened was an assault on our country. it was an assault on the gay community. our whole theme is make america

hip, somebody with a gun strapped on to their ankle and you had bullets going in the opposite direction right at this animal who did this, you would have had a very, very different result. believe me, folks. very different. >> it is worth mention that go according to police, an orlando officer was working extra duty at the nightclub and, quote, engaged in a gun battle with omar mateen before the gunman went deeper into the club. on sunday trump suggested that profiling may be necessary going forward saying he doesn't like it but, quote, it's not the worst thing to do. >> you said you would check respectfully the mosques. how do you respectfully check a mosque? >> well, you do what they used to do in new york prior to this mayor dismantling. by the way, if you go to france right now, they're doing it in france. in some instances they're closing down mosques.

i think profiling is something we have to start thinking about as a country. other countries do it. you look at israel and others and they do it. they do it successfully. you know, i hate the concept of profiling, but we have to start using common sense and we have to use -- you know, would he have to use our heads. >> though he is still trailing, donald trump chipped away at hillary clinton's poll lead in the wake of the orlando shootings. the reuters poll conducted from monday to friday, showed clinton was a 150.7 point lead among likely voters. that was down from 14.3 for clinton on sunday, the day of the shooting. the trump campaign tells the associated press it currently has about 30 paid field staffers across the country. that number is dwarfed by both the clinton and bernie sanders ground game operations. in june clinton and allies who have backed her have spent a

total of $23.3 million on ads. trump and his group have spent zero. nothing. that means clinton and allied groups are dominating the battleground state air waives, 100% to zero. at this point in 2012 the difference was 56% for president obama and 46% for mitt romney. the trump campaign sent out an emergency add for $1 million for tv ads. >> we're raising money for the republican party and frankly i like doing t. somebody said, you're not raising money fast enough. i don't know. i get people, i'm raising money for the republican party. what they don't tell you though is i actually have a lot of support but they don't talk to the people who support. if somebody says something just a little bit off, headline, blaring news. >> trump's complaints about party unity come amid newly renewed plans to stop the

nomination. anti-trump delegates, many of them former ted cruz supporters, hope to change party rules that would allow them to vote for whomever they want. michael son has been critical of trump in recent weeks telling local leaders, quote, neither hillary clinton nor donald trump are going to be people that we point our children toward and say, i want you to be just like them when you grow up. responding to the heightened speculation the rnc communications director put out a statement. there is no organized effort, strategy or leader of this so-called movement. it is nothing more than a media creation and a series of tweets. but last night supporters in a group calling itself free the delegates claim several hundred delegates are behind them and that they will raise money for a staff. on "meet the press" trump and paul ryan addressed brewing signs of a rebellion. >> shouldn't delegates, if they

have a second -- if they're having second thoughts about it, have an opportunity to express that second thought, to be on ban and let the will of the convention decide if they want him? >> that's not my place to decide. my place because of, again, this role i have which i feel has very important responsibilities is to call balls and strikes and play it by the rules. it is not my job to tell delegates what to do, whatnot to do or to weigh in on things like that. they write the rules. they make the decisions. i want to make sure it's done above board clearly, honestly and by the rules. >> i think we're going to have a great convention and i think we're going to go into a great victory. it would be nice if the republicans stuck together. i think because i'm a different kind of candidate and paul ryan said that, i'm a different kind of a candidate. i think that i win either way. i can win one way or the other. >> with them or without them? >> i do believe that, but i think it -- i obviously won the primaries without them. i'm an outsider and i won the

primaries. i do believe that we can win either way, but it would be nice if we stuck together. >> meantime at least four people are dead in arizona as record-breaking heat wave grips the southwestern u.s. temperatures all across the region soared into triple digits yesterday and there will be little relief today. phoenix expected to hit 120 degrees while other parts of arizona, new mexico, southern nevada and southern california will see temperatures up to 20 degrees above normal. the rising heat won't give crews any relief battling fires. it's expected to spread into the middle of the country as the week goes on. bill karins will have more on that coming up. we're getting a better sense of the economic collapse hitting venezuela as it deals with a severe shortage of food. shops were destroyed after a round of looting last week. these are images that have emerged from the coastal town 250 miles east of the capitol of

caracas. 450 people were arrested in the looting in roughly the past two weeks. more than 50 food riots have broken out. there are growing calls to force the president out of office. maduro says there will be no vote until next year. a pivotal week ahead for the u.k. as it prepares on whether to vote to leave the union. british prime minister david cameron who, of course, wants to remain in the eu is being accused of using last week's killing of mp jo cox. he then linked to a copy of her final article on the issue which was reprinted in the british papers this weekend. cnbc's nancy hunger ford joins us from london. nancy, the vote is thursday, what's the latest? >> that's right, chris.

the brexit debate, the e.u. referendum vote is coming up. it revealed a shift in momentum for the remain campaign. from the yougov poll we're looking at remain at 44 points and leave at 43. the survation poll, a separate poll puts remain at 45 to leave at 42 but the financial times poll of polls is saying it is a dead heat at 44-44. it is still too close to call but some of that momentum shifting for the camp for the u.k. to stay in the eu is being perceived as good news for markets today. we're seeing a sharp rally in sterling against the dollar and a jump with u.k. equities. but outside of the u.k. we are looking at corp rates responding to the race for the white house. apple joining in here on some debate over donald trump and

inform him he might be penalized. johnson would have to play the final 6 holes of the day with that looming over him. it did not affect the outcome of the tournament. johnson parred those remaining holes shooting a final 69 for a 3 stroke win over the field. earlier in the show we talked about how dangerous the weather has gotten out west. multiple people died while hiking in arizona. let's bring in nbc meteorologist bill karins for more on what's expected to be -- >> still hard to believe, right? we knew this heat wave was going to be horrible and it would be 120 degrees. people are still out hiking. some people perished. incredible. scratch your head. 26 million people still in the heat warning. yesterday and today are the peak. then the temperatures are barely going to numbering down a little bit. still dangerous. big cities under the excessive heat warning are yuma, las vegas, phoenix and tucson.

and as far as the high of the pressure dome, this is the one over the middle of the country. shifted west this weekend. the firefighters out in this heat fighting these blazes is insane. palm springs could be up to 123. we're expecting 115 in yuma who hit 120. phoenix 116 yesterday, 115 today. these are the temperatures out in the sun, in the shade. the temperatures come down a little bit. not like they get that much of a break. los angeles does come down, 100 today, down into the 80s. vegas, yuma, phoenix, tucson, this is a long-duration heat wave in the west. we saw some really nasty thunderstorms in minnesota last night. duluth had strong storms and even tornadoes near them. today the cold front will sink to the south t. will cool you off in chicago, fort wayne, cleveland, detroit, minneapolis but you will have the chance of severe weather. 28 million people at the risk of the severe storm.

in the latest round of "star wars" movies has passed away. anton yelchin, 27 years old, was killed in a fatal accident. he died as a result of his own car rolling backwards down a steep driveway pinning him between the vehicle and a brick mailbox. police say he had gotten out of the vehicle momentarily but did not say why he was behind it when it started rolling. a momentous occasion over the weekend for the clinton family. chelsea clinton giving birth to her second child saturday. it's a boy named aidan. she tweeted this photo. the proud grandpa also did some tweeting posting his own photo with mark and the baby who came just one day before father's day. here's one more. both grandparents, this one a personal tweet from hillary clinton, quote, what a joy being with our new grandson aidan, so grateful. now a boy and a girl for them. finally this morning seth myers is calling on his
