hillary clinton sits down with the fbi for an interview and donald trump stirs up some controversy with a tweet that is being antisemettic. casey hunt has more. >> reporter: hillary clinton this weekend trying to turn the page on an fbi investigation into her private e-mails. her team is hoping this will be cleared of wrongdoing before she accepts the democratic nomination for president just weeks from now, charging ahead with vetting potential. >> i think there won't be an indictment and she did what many secretaries of state have done in the past. >> clinton taking in a saturday evening performance of hamilton on broadway after she and top aide cheryl mills spent the day. the fbi interviewing for her for more than three hours about her use of private e-mail as secretary of state. clinton telling chuck todd, i wanted to get it over with.

>> i have been eager to do it and i was pleased to have the opportunity to assist the department in bringing it to a conclusion. >> reporter: meanwhile, donald trump dealing with his own problems. his team still not explaining the image posted to his twitter account on saturday. attacking clinton as corrupt showing a star of david over a pile of money. an image that also appeared two weeks earlier on twitter. on trump's feed, the image was quickly replace would a modified version. but with two of the six points of the star still visible. his former campaign manager defended him. >> a tweet is a simple tweet and you can read into things that aren't there. this is a simple star. >> reporter: it took him to task saying "it is long overdue for mr. trump to reject the anti-semits and racists with the same energy he has brought to the campaign trail when calling out other candidates."

>> trump has yet to comment on that tweet. he visited trump and his family and nothing was offered and nothing was accepted during the meeting. trump will visit the battleground state of north carolina tomorrow. president obama makes his first campaign appearance alongside hillary clinton three hours down the road in charlotte. for more on the 2016 campaign, we're joined by eduard lawrence. can we expect any fireworks tomorrow when trump takes the stage? >> you bet, betty, big fireworks with fireworks and shapes being interviewed by the fbi for three hours in that criminal case. president obama will join hillary clinton on tuesday in charlotte, north carolina, for their first campaign appearance

together. they are expected to attack donald trump. trump will have an event in raleigh, north carolina. trump was expected to say that voting for clinton is another vote for a third term of president obama. now, both campaigns are putting a lot of resources into north carolina. in 2012, it went to mitt romney. hillary clinton believes there is an opening there because of the bathroom gender bill. she thinks she ecan sway voters to her side. donald trump believes he can hold the voters on the republican side. this could be a vital week for trump. his campaign has faltered over the past couple of weeks. betty? >> it will be interesting, thank you very much. the leader of the uk independence party and strong backer of britain leaving the eu has announced his resignation. they resigned in the wake of the brexit vote. what i said during the referendum campaign, i want my

country back. what i'm saying today, i want my life back. it begins right now. an apparent bomber side and two security officers injured in an attack near the u.s. consulate in saudi arabia. according to the state department, it was apparently timed to coincide with fourth of july celebrations. five staff members and four security personnel were killed an attack on the same consulate. the hit came after a massive car bomb killed 167 and injured 185 in baghdad on sunday morning. it is the third terror attack in recent days and it follows last week's deadly massacre on istanbul's airport and the brutal killing that left 20 hostages at an upscale bangladesh restaurant dead. isis has taken immediate responsibility for the baghdad attack. iraqis, mostly shiites celebrated the last of the holy

month of ramadan. a virginia teen was seriously injured yesterday in a bizarre explosion in new york city's central park. police say conner golden was jumping off some rocks in the park with friends when he landed on a device that exploded. part of his leg had to be amputated. that blast sent the most popular city on edge. investigators say the homemade firework does not appear to be related to terrorism and they do not believe the victim and his friends made the device. they used sniffer dogs to search the park into the evening. the teen remains hospitalized. the father of a little boy who was killed by an alligator in disney world told officials that two alligators were involved. he was attacked by a second alligator while trying to rescue

his son, lane. mr. graves needed stitches and antibiotics for gator bites he received. 2-year-old lane was dragged into the water while standing only feet from the beach. his body was found in tact just 15 yards from the shore. award-winning author wiesel was laid to rest yesterday. he died on saturday at the age of 87. word of his death sent the world mourning for the man known as a champion for human rights and toleran tolerance. >> reporter: a community of mourners lifting elie wiesel's casket as they celebrate his life. >> he inspired us and gave us a sense of responsibility. >> reporter: pictured here at age 16 in the bunk of a nazi concentration camp just days after liberated by u.s. troops. documenting its horrors in his critically acclaimed novel

as americans continue celebrating independence day over the long weekend, many in the west are racing to escape

growing wild fires. in central california the curry fire prompted evacuation warnings since igniting friday evening. officials say it's spreading at a dangerous rate. meanwhile, the deer fire has burned nearly 1800 acres, threatening about 100 homes. northern california's trailhead fire has scorched over 5,000 acres according to cal fire officials. the infernos were being fuelled in part by conditions from the state's five-year drought. officials are warning residents fireworks could ignite new blazes. be careful out there on this fourth of july. security officials in bangladesh continue to search for anyone involved in planning saturday's hostage situation in the country's capital. the bangladeshi prime minister confirmed in a televised address that one person had been arrested when the crisis ended. the crisis left 20 hostages and six other attackers dead. police had tightened security around the site and the hospital where survivors are being treated. the prime minister visited a memorial to the victims earlier

this morning. a sterlington, louisiana, police officer is dead after a drunk driver crashed her truck into a traffic stop early sunday morning. two other officers were treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at a local hospital. sterlington's police chief says that five-year veteran who was killed was actually planning to retire from the force making july 3rd to the 4th his last full-time shift. so difficult for his family. dozens were hospitalized after a rowdy kenny chesney concert in pittsburgh over the weekend. 57 emergency medical transports were requested and several arrests were made for trespa trespassi trespassing. public intoxication and ticket robbery. this isn't the first time a chesney concert has gotten out of hand in pittsburgh. in 2013, 73 people were arrested at a trashed concert venue. watch because marvel's next comic book villain is none other than donald trump. though he is defeated in the series, a promise to crush

reasons. in part, because i know how she started her career advocating for the children's defense fund. he didn't go off to manhattan to headac make her washington to make a lot of money. >> that is your morning dish of scrambled politics. joining me to talk about all this in studio is raul, an attorney, columnist and nbcnews.com contributor. we looked at all those possible vp candidates for clinton taking to the talk shows on sunday. which is, i would think, a calculated move by the campaign to put them out there and see how they do. >> not only that. clinton has been an advocate for children. we hear him reminding people that she has been working for the public good and unlike donald trump who has been, you know, getting creating well for himself and his family, that's part of clinton's message. elizabeth warren, also doing the same thing. just reinforcing her message. >> who do you think did the

best? >> brown did the best. he has a lot of appeal. he is a possible connection to blue collar, white voters, especially men, when clinton has struggled to connect with. he also a great reason why he could get the nod -- >> you think he's going to get it? >> i'm not sure. but a great reason why he might is ohio. that's always critical. he's popular in the state. very well known. very well known in the midwest and he's great at delivering the talking points and staying on message. >> i want to shift to trump because a lot of people wondering who is trump going to pick? is it going to be a safe pick that would really help perhaps party establishment feel a little more comfortable with this ticket or going to be trump and go out on a limb and do it his own way? >> he is going to be trump. probably the closest thing they have to a safe pick is newt gingrich. that's what republican voters want. that's who the republican establishment wants? >> does the general public want

newt gingrich? >> they want someone with government experience to balance out trump and see him as someone who could serve as a good surrogate. to a lot of people, newt gingrich is the '90s and even then he was not very popular. >> we have seen him before, do they want him back again? >> he has a lot of baggage. in 2012, the most disliked politician in washington. but the fact is, he knows how to work the hill and been speaker of the house. >> who is his biggest competition? >> chris christie. he's loyal and mocking people on "saturday night live" they make fun of him. that's what donald trump prizes above all. he seems to prize loyalty and chris christie has been uniformally. unlike newt gingrich, chris christie has not criticized trump. >> i want to ask you that. does trump need a yes man or someone who is going tahelp him with ideas and really but heads at times. >> to perfect his message,
