with the right steps, 80% of recurrent ischemic strokes could be prevented. and i'm doing all i can to help prevent another one. a bayer aspirin regimen is one of those steps in helping prevent another stroke. be sure to talk to your doctor before you begin an aspirin regimen. my mmade a simple trip toonic the grocery storesis anything but simple. so i had an important conversation with my dermatologist about humira. he explained that humira works inside my body to target and help block a specific source

of inflammation that contributes to my symptoms. in clinical trials, most adults taking humira were clear or almost clear, and many saw 75% and even 90% clearance in just 4 months. humira can lower your ability to fight infections, including tuberculosis. serious, sometimes fatal infections and cancers, including lymphoma, have happened; as have blood, liver, and nervous system problems, serious allergic reactions, and new or worsening heart failure. before treatment, get tested for tb. tell your doctor if you've been to areas where certain fungal infections are common, and if you've had tb, hepatitis b, are prone to infections, or have flu-like symptoms or sores. don't start humira if you have an infection. ask about humira, the #1 prescribed biologic by dermatologists. clearer skin is possible. but i keep it growing by making every dollar count. that's why i have the spark cash card from capital one. with it, i earn unlimited 2% cash back on all of my purchasing.
1:46 pm
and that unlimited 2% cash back from spark means thousands of dollars each year going back into my business... which adds fuel to my bottom line. what's in your wallet? >> donald trump's vp pick of mike pence is generating anger in the lbgt community. as indiana governor, pence signed a bill which allowed businesses to refuse service to gay and lesbian couples because of their beliefs. >> that bill was amended because of the public outcry. support for the so-called religious freedom bills are a part of this years platform. it is a platform ahead of the republicans that calls the most anti-lbgt platform in party history. even though for the first time, this year's platform committee included an openly gay delegate.
1:47 pm
>> that delegate is joining us right now. i'm so glad for having you here. >> thanks for having me. >> your experience on the committee on that platform committee, what was that like? >> sure, overall it was a positive experience. there were some tough moments. i offered a specific amendment to make our marriage more inclusive to people like me, not only gays and lesbians, but also folks around the country that are supportive of lbgt rights. overall, i'd say the response, even tow my amendment didn't pass, it got a good amount of support, people in the room, if they didn't vote with me were supportive of being there. >> your take away is good. of course, have you to have some disappointment here? >> i do. there is some bad language in the republican party platform, about denying same sex couples the right to marry, there is bad language about transgender rights, about gaye adoption the first amendment defense act t.
1:48 pm
reality is however there has been a lot of progress as well. on my marriage amendment, in particular, which was to include more inclusive language about marriage just embracing and acknowledging even the fact that there are a diversity of opinions within our party on marriage, 23 people stood up and voted with me on that. that's nearly a quarter of the committee. >> that's great. i guess i want to ask you, as i've asked those people particularly relative to gun control and capitol hill. when you were speaking to people before a vote or even after the vote, did they tell you kind of off the record, hey, we get you? we hear what you are saying. we wish we could have supported this, but we couldn't? off the record? >> i would say that i received a lot of support for people in the room that didn't necessarily support my amendment. on a personal level. >> right. >> i think that their views on denying same sex couples the right to marry are sincerely held. i did not get that they were vote income discord with their
1:49 pm
own principles. i think the reality is there are people in our party that believe in traditional marriage and i would say they're over represented at the platform committee. the reality is that a majority of emergency over 60% of americans now support marriage equality and a growing member within the republican party support equality. we are out of step in that way. >> it sounds like you weren't surprised. you knew what you were walking into. >> i am not surprised. i have been a republican for a long time. the party's views on marriage has been out of step with the changing views of the country for a long time. so i wasn't surprised, i was disappointed. but there were signs of encouragement as well. the platform includes fewer sections that reference anti-lbgt or that reference lbgt rights if a negative way and, like i said, there are nearly a quarter of the committee that stood up and supported more inclusive language. >> you heard my description of make pence. what was your reaction to him
1:50 pm
being trump's choice at vp? >> i think it was discouraging for folks looking for a candidate more supportive or friendly on lbgt rightsch trump gave a lot of us some hope he might b. i heard some people calm him a champion him i don't know i'm ready to calm him that. but on bathrooms. on standing with the gay and lesbian community after the orlando attack. saying he will keep the gaye community safe, there are ways in which we hope mr. trump will be better on our issues and the pick of mr. spens a sign in the opposite direction. >> do you you can though, fine yourself as a republican, do you ever consider voting for someone other than a republican? >> i never have voted for anyone other than a republican and i think this year might be the first time that i'm unable to support our nominee. and certainly in these past days this week, particularly the time that we spend in platform
1:51 pm
committee, i actually for the first time as a republican in 15 years thought about leaving the party. in the end, i think that would only. people like me leave if people are looking for progress within our party on lbgt issues. if we choose to no longer be a part of the party, we choose to go down the path that's joining them. >> continuing to go and vote for mrs. clinton in. >> that would be very, very hard for me. there are a lot of things i disagree about mrs. clinton about. i'm opt mick tt there will be a candidate emerge that resonates with and is if line with my own views. we shall see, it is early. >> thank you so much for joining me, i appreciate it. i look forward to hearing the conversation there. with just some hours to go until things go to the unbound delegates. we will explain when our live

>> during donald trump's announcement of his running mate, mike pence, trump made sure to reference the failed efforts of the never trump movement. >> never trump they said, never trump, oh, we're going to win. they got crushed. and they got crushed immediately. >> well, msnbc jacob sorrov, what are they telling to you expect on the convention floor? >> they are saying they have achieved a victory, they have, let's be honest, because donald trump is talking about them in an announcement speech for vice president. they became a thorn in the side of the trump campaign and the republican national committee. even though they're not going to be able to unbind and change donald trump on the convention floor. what they do say is very interesting. i have been following them closely as you know from colorado to north dakota, to pennsylvania. the unbound delegates movement
1:56 pm
to unbind all of these delegates says while they didn't win, they are going to protest on the convengz floor. what that looks like exactly, we don't know, but i asked the leader of the group. whether there be a protest by delegates inside? >> nimpb what the rnc and trump continue to, do i don't think it's wise, because through their intimidation and everything they've done, it's important we don't talk about the specifics. >> reporter: i'm going to ask you one more time, do you think there will be some form of protest? >> yes, there will be some form of protests. the dem gather are angry, outraged at what happened. what we're there to do is help them make it clear to the rest of the world they're out rajd, unhappy and angry and this is, what happened is an assault to democracy in my opinion. it just flies in the face everything the republican party stands for and just can't be allowed to stand. so, yes, will the dell grats show how they feel about this? there is no doubt about it.
1:57 pm
we'll have to see what that actually looks like. >> reporter: i will throw out some "options action," are people going to walk out? >> possibly. >> reporter: are people going to she sheer support by being vocal and interrupting? >> possibly. >> reporter: what about tee shirts, uniforms. visual signs of protests? >> it could be all of the above. >> that itself thing, this is not a one-dimensional thing. one thing we have to contend with the rnc consistently make it difficult for us to do things. we are addressing issues where they will allow us to get to the microphones, what we can do to protest. they're holding the nomination on monday night. >> reporter: quick tidbit, alex, about the colorado delegation home to one of the leaders of the stop trump movementf their delegation was seated in the very back of the quicken loans arena, perhaps retribution. not so nice, maybe, by the rnc and trump campaign. >> bring your binoculars. thank you for that. that does it for me this hour at
