what the hell did they expect from the son of the man who killed jfk? lighten up. and when paul manafort was asked if cruz told trump two days ago that he wouldn't endorse in the speech mana afort said that's not quite accurate. adding they got the text late and didn't make any changes. >> donald trump left the offer to speak without any conditions. he thought senator cruz might have been a little more politically smart. >> trump himself later tweeted, quote, wow ted cruz got booed off the stage. didn't pledge -- honor the pledge. i saw his speech two hours early but let him speak any way. no big deal. here he is exiting quicken loans arena last night. >> mr. trump, any reaction to ted cruz last night, mr. trump? that was a remarkable moment. what did you think? >> you loved it? why? >> it was in that very arena nearly one year ago that the

moderators of the first republican debate asked the giant field to raise their hands if they would not pledge to support the nominee. ironically donald trump was the lone candidate who raised his hand. well, reaction last night was decidedly mixed, some applauded the senator in the room and on twitter, but "the washington post" reports that when cruz tried to enter billionaire's shelden aidleson's suite he was turned away. while newt gingrich tried to smooth things over, many high republicans tried to lam bust cruz. >> ted cruz said, you can vote your conscious for anyone who will uphold the constitution. in this election, there is only one candidate who will uphold the constitution. so, to para phrase ted cruz, the

only possible candidate this fall is the trump/pence republican ticket. >> it was an awful, selfish speech by someone who tonight through the words he said on that stage showed everybody why he has richly earned the reputation that he has on capitol hill. >> he's a fraud. he's a liar. he's self centered and disqualified himself for ever being considered for president of the united states. >> that was cute, you know, don't stay home in november. vote for the people that you like from top to the bottom of the ticket. i just think it was an awful performance by someone who showed himself tonight to not be a man of his word. >> tonight is the night is the ted cruz that i've known. he is not a true republican. he is not a true conservative. he is self centered. i've never seen such outrage and anger on the floor. disgraced himself, disgraced the party and the party should never consider him again for office.

comments from mike pence's speech last night. >> we cannot have four more years apologizing to our enemies and abandoning our friends. donald trump will rebuild our military and stand with our allies. >> senior clinton policy adviser jake sullivan said tonight donald trump would stand with our allies. tonight donald trump flatly contradicted him. ronald reagan would be ashamed. harry truman would be ashamed. the president is supposed to be the leader of the free world. donald trump apparently unt even believe in the free world. trump's campaign chairman paul manafort said the times got it wrong. 36 hours after putting out an initial statement brushing off accusations of plagiarism, donald trump's campaign offered what appears to be their final position on the near word for word similarities of melania trump's speech to michelle obama's 2008 dnc address.

good news is melania's speech got more publicity than any in the history of politics, especially if you believe that all press is good press. and claiming the media is spending more time doing a forensic analysis of melania's speech than the fbi spent on hillary's e-mails. trump followed up by issuing a statement from trump organization staffer and ghost writer on several of his books meredith mciver, in working with melania trump on her recent first lady speech we discussed many people who inspired her and messages she wanted to share with the american people. a person she has always liked is michelle obama. over the phone she read me some passages from mrs. obama's speech as examples. i wrote them down and later included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech. i did not check mrs. obama's speeches. that was my mistake. and i feel terrible for the chaos i have caused melania and the trumps as well as to mrs. obama. no harm was meant. yesterday i offered my

resignation to mr. trump and the trump family but they rejected it. mr. trump told me that people make innocent mistakes and that we learn and grow from those experiences. i apologize for the confusion and hysteria my mistake has caused. "the new york times" wrote, the employee is the first person to publicly apologize for an error at any point during the trump campaign. trump had this to say on abc yesterday -- >> she made a mistake. people make mistakes. you've made mistakes. we all make mistakes. i guess maybe if she weren't with me for a long time and didn't know how good she was, i've done books with her that have been best sellers, she is a terrific person. she made a mistake. i think it was terrific the way she came forward and said, look, it was a mistake that i made and she thought it was very unfair to melania, although interestingly the press treated melania very well because they didn't think it was her. >> last night indiana governor mike pence made his rnc debut by accepting the nomination as donald trump's running mate

after ted cruz was booed for refusing to endorse the republican nominee, governor pence won back the crowd by making one of the convention's strongest cases yet for the man at the top of the ticket. but with polls showing that pence's largely unknown to most of the country, the indiana republican took the time to introduce himself. >> i'm a christian, a conservative and a republican in that order. for those of you who don't know me, which is most of you, i grew up on the front row of the american dream. my grandfather immigrated to this country. i was raised in a small town in southern indiana in a big family with a corn field in the backyard. although we weren't really a political family, the heroes of my youth were president john f. kennedy and the reverend dr. martin luther king jr. growing up i actually started in politics in the other party

until i heard the voice and the ideals of the 40th president and i signed on for the reagan revolution. he's a man known for a large personality, a colorful style and lots of charisma and so i guess he was just looking for some balance on the ticket. now, if you know anything about hoosiers, you know we love to suit up and compete. we play to win. that's why i joined this campaign in a heart beat. you have nominated a man for president who never quits, who never backs down, a fighter, a winner. until now he had to do it all by himself against all odds, but this week with this united party he's got back up and on november 8th i know we will elect donald trump to be the 45th president of the united states of america. >> there was also an odd moment after pence wrapped up his speech when donald trump appeared on stage and tried to

give his running mate some sort of kiss. they then embraced and shook hands but didn't raise them as running mates typically do. trump then left the stage. another trump family member took to the convention stage last night, this time it was eric trump's turn to rally support for his father. he delivered a speech touting the business-like approach his dad would bring to the white house. >> this november i ask you to be true to yourself and vote for the candidate who you know is running for the right reasons. vote for the candidate who has never been a politician. vote for the candidate who has never received a paycheck from our government. vote for the candidate who can't be bought, sold, purchased, bribed, coerced, intimidated or steered from the path that is right and just and true. quite frankly, friends, vote for the one candidate who does not need this job. >> donald trump is denying a report meantime that claims his

campaign offered john kasich a chance to be his vice president. according to new york times magazine, donald trump jr. reached out a kasich offer with that offer back in may. he reportedly said his father's vice president would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy while trump would be in charge of making america great again. in response to the report, trump tweeted yesterday, john kasich was never asked by me to be vp. and donald jr. also responded telling cnn do you really believe i would say john kasich is in charge of foreign and domestic policy and donald trump will focus on making america great again? what am i? a meathead? much more coming up from here in cleveland. snl's weekend update meet on msnbc weeknight or very early morning. so much for burying the hat chet. coming up, we'll play the moment earlier in the day when

it will be in cleveland too throughout the next couple days. right now it's located in the middle of the country. millions upon people are under heat warnings, advisories or watches. now we added some watches in areas around philadelphia for the heat that's coming this upcoming weekend. as the days go by, it gets a little more dangerous. the heat dome is sitting there over the top. the nighttime temperatures don't cool off as much. air conditioners get taxed. it will feel like 112 in omaha. 106 in minneapolis, all the way to the far north, lit have this brutal heat. little rock 111. now the heat will build. this is friday's forecast. starts to build in the middle of the areas in the ohio valley, then heads to the east on saturday. washington, d.c. will feel like 104. carolinas will feel like 106. it's not like we got the relief in kansas city where it feels like 106. by sunday, it will be like 104 in charlotte and nashville 105. these feels like temperatures are in the shade. if you're in the sun, it's even
