elocutio good to be with you frances rivera and this is "first look." donald trump has made history. >> friends, delegates, and fellow americans, i humbly and gratefully accept your nomination for the presidency of the united states. >> the billionaire political outsider told americans he was the fearless law and order candidate needed to protect the country spiraling out of control. >> we will be a country of generosity and warmth, but we

will also be a country of law and order. the attacks on our police and the terrorism of our cities threaten our very way of life. any politician who does not grasp this danger is not fit to lead our country. >> capping an unusually tumultuous and controversy filled four-day convention, trump made sure to pivot to the general bringing the hammer down on his democratic rival, hillary clinton. >> after four years of hillary clinton, what do we have? isis has spread across the region and the entire world. libya is in ruins, and our ambassador and his staff were left helpless to die at the hands of savage killers.
2:02 am
>> and he laid the recent state of violence at president obama's feet, bringing back his ban on immigration. >> we must immediately suspend immigration from any nation that has been compromised by terrorism until such time as proven vetting mechanisms have been put in place. we don't want them in our country. >> ultimately trump says it is he and he alone that has the power to fix the country's problems. >> on the economy, i will outline reforms to add millions of new jobs and trillions in new wealth. nobody knows the system better than me. which is why i alone can fix it. i have made billions of dollars in business making deals. now i'm going to make our country rich again.
2:03 am
>> but a familiar scene took place on the convention floor during trump's prime time address as a code pink protester interrupted his speech. however, it was trump's embrace of the gay community that was one of the most talked about moments of the night. >> this time the terrorist target lgbtq community. no good. and we're going to stop it. as your president i will do everything in my power to protect our lgbtq citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology. believe me. i have to say as a republican, it is so nice to hear you cheering for what i just said. thank you. >> the former registered democrat and real estate mogul was introduced by daughter ivanka who continued her siblings' personal appeals for

was it enough to move the needle forward and gain some traction for november? >> well it depends how bummed out americans are feeling in november. i think the unofficial title of the speech is make america afraid again. i mean it was a list of illegal aliens, and rampaging criminals, and terrorists banging on our door. if that's the mood of america months from now, the guy's going to be your next president. >> some would say that's exactly the sentiment of the country, feeding to that anger. but also, you know, i was following and comparing the prepared remarks to what actually came out of his mouth. he pretty much stuck to the script, and when he didn't, he went -- he didn't come off as the same bombastic trump as we've known so far. >> no. he was actually a little nicer in the ad-libs wasn't he? the tone of it was very different from most of the trump speeches we've gotten to know. i would say it was less engaging, less human. but it was -- there were no obvious, you know, embarrassing

comments in it that he's going to have to live down this morning. >> attack hillary clinton, when they were saying lock her up. he said we'll just defeat her in november. i want to ask you when it comes to hillary clinton a lot of eyes today and tomorrow because that vp decision could come with virginia senator tim kaine at the top of many possible vp lists. any bets on who you think she'll choose? >> it is all pointing kaine's direction at this point. folks in the campaign are saying hold on, hillary hasn't made her final decision. but it seems as if she's pointing more towards the moderates in her party. trying to get those swing voters in the middle. the disappointed people might be some progressive democrats who were thinking more along the lines of an elizabeth warren, wondering are they going to come over from bernie to hillary. those folks could be a little disappointed by a kaine selection, however. >> all right. we should know maybe today, maybe tomorrow. definitely before next week. ellis henican as always. >> good to see you, frances. it is a so-called deadly heat dome that is blanketing
