economy back you had 50 years ago, have at it, vote for whoever you want to. but if she wins she is coming back for you to take you along on the ride to america's future. >> living history. hillary clinton officially becomes the first woman to win the presidential nomination of a major u.s. political party. this as bill clinton did what bill clinton does, using that signature charm to paint a picture of his wife that only he can. now, we wait to see if it works. plus an emotional day for the sanders family as larry sanders cast a vote for his younger brother bernie. both men brought to tears. it is 5:00 a.m. on the east coast. 2:00 a.m. out west. this is "way too early."

good morning. it is wednesday, july 27th. i'm chris jansing live from the democratic national convention in philadelphia with an extended edition of "way too early." the democratic party made history last night. formally nominating a woman for president of the united states. . nearly 100 years after the first woman was elected to congress, 97 years after suffragists changed the constitution and won the right to vote, and 35 years after a woman was confirmed to the supreme court, hillary clinton is the first woman to become a major party nominee. it comes in the wake of a tumultuous first night that included heckling from a vocal contingent of bernie sanders supporters. democrats extended their unity push into the convention's second day with emotional speeches and tributes that were nearly as much as celebration of bernie sanders as they were about nominating clinton. >> our nation was born here in philadelphia 240 years ago. our founding fathers gave us a

great start, but it was the founding mothers who said, do not forget the ladies, or we will ferment our own revolution. on behalf of all the women who have broken down barriers for others, and with an eye toward the daughters ahead, i proudly place hillary clinton's name in nomination to be the next president. >> arizona, you have 85 votes. how do you vote? >> i am proud to be joined her by jerry, age 2. >> 51 votes for the next president of the united states of america, hillary rodham clinton! >> democrats abroad.

things that you heard at the republican convention. one is real. the other is made up. and -- you just have to decide which is which, my fellow americans. the real one calls you when you're sick, when your kid's in trouble, or when there's a death in the family. the real one repeatedly drew praise from prominent republicans when she was a senator and secretary of state. if you win elections on the theory that government is always bad and will mess up a two-car parade, a real changemaker represents a real threat. so your only option is to create a cartoon. cartoons are two dimensional.

they're easy to absorb. life in the real world is complicated and real change is hard. and a lot of people even think it's boring. good for you. because earlier today you nominated the real one. >> despite bernie sanders asking his supporters to rally around hillary clinton, large numbers of them continue to protest. shortly after sanders personally moved to nominate clinton by acclimation, hundreds of his delegates staged a walkout. the delegates left the convention floor and headed toward the media tent just outside the wells fargo arena. once inside the group held a sit-in. police then surrounded the tent, refusing to let anyone in or out until the situation was resolved. and other demonstrations continued into the night here in philadelphia. at one point outside the wells fargo center a group was seen lighting an israeli flag on fire. several demonstrators were also detained after scaling the eight-foot fence that blocks off

a secure zone around the arena parking lot. and yesterday afternoon, several hundred demonstrators took part in a black lives matter rally that marched to philadelphia city hall. some of the signs read, hillary clinton has blood on her hands. a new controversy began brewing at the convention just moments after democrats nominated hillary clinton when longtime clinton ally and virginia governor terry mcauliffe suggested to politico that clinton will again change her position on the trans-pacific partnership. quote, i worry that if we don't do tpp, at some point china's going to break the rules. but hillary understands this. once the election's over and we sit down on trade people understand a couple things we want to fix on it but going forward we got to build a globe economy. asked if clinton would turn around and support the trade deal she came out against in the primary fight against bernie sanders mcauliffe said yeah, listen, she was in support of it. there were specific things in she wants fixed. clinton campaign chairman john

podesta responded quickly, look, governor mcauliffe, he got this one flat wrong. hillary opposes tpp, before and after the election, period, full stop. a spokesman for mcauliffe clarified that the virginia governor has no expectation clinton will support tpp, and that she's never told him anything to that effect. the fbi continues to investigate claims that russia is at the center of wikileaks' release of thousands of dnc e-mails. according to a report from "the new york times." intelligence agencies have told the white house they have high confidence that the russian government was involved. in response to that "new york times" report, republican senator ben sasse issued a staimt saying mr. putin's style have leveleds that were unimaginable just a week ago. president obama is weighing in in an interview set to air this morning on the "today" show. >> i think the fbi is still

investigating what happened. i know that experts have attribut this to the russians. what the motives were in terms of the leaks, all that, i can't say directly. what i do know is that donald trump has repeatedly expressed admiration for vladimir putin >> donald trump tweeted yesterday, in order to try and deflect the horror and stupidity of the wikileaks disaster, the dems said maybe it is russia dealing with trump. crazy. and for the record, i have zero investments in russia. and here's what he said to a cbs affiliate in miami. >> i have nothing to do with russia. i don't have any jobs in russia. i'm all over the world but we're not involved in russia. but it was just -- i watched actually one of the people from the campaign of hillary clinton, which who i call crooked hillary, and he talked about russia. he said you know, it was trump,

it was trump. it was almost like john levits on the liar if you remember that from "saturday night live" it was trump. it's so ridiculous. but they have to say something. >> last night donald trump pushed back against some of the claims made at the democratic convention, as well. at one saying there should be no federal minimum wage, that it should be $10. while responding to bernie sanders' accurate claim on monday night that trump opposed raising it from $7.25. >> he said that i wanted to go less than minimum wage. this is a new one because i'm the republican that said in some cases we have to go more than minimum wage. >> give me a number. >> no, let me give you a concept because i think it's a good concept. you go with the states. let the states make the determination. because if you take new york it's very expensive to live in new york and they need more than you know, $7, $8, $9. so you go with the state -- >> but do states have the authority now to do that but there has to be a federal minimum wage. >> they do. >> what would you set the

and the weekend returns back to normal. the big story has been the sand fire out in l.a. the heat has been on both coasts. east coast on the west coast. of course the sand fire in angeles national forest about an hour north of downtown l.a. obviously poor air quality the vac uses that took place, thankfully a lot of people have been allowed back in their homes. they did find the body of one man in his car who refused to evacuate and he got caught in the flames there has been one fatality with this fire. that fire is located right about here. you can see there's a big temperature differential right along the coast it's cooler and once you get inland i mean 116 palm springs today. those firefighters are going to be in 100 degree temperatures dealing with that blaze. doesn't cool off until about three days from now. the fire stats for this year, it's you know we've been in the headlines lately but the beginning of the season was very quiet chris. we had almost 5.6 million acres burned this time last year, we're at 3 million. it's been an average fire season nothing crazy and the forecast
