another 10,000 last night in jacksonville. but a fox news poll shows hillary clinton with a ten-point lead, 49 to 39%. the latest in a string of descending national numbers for the republican nominee. compare those polls with trump's feud with khan's family and you begin to understand the panic setting in for some of his party's leadership. but yesterday trump dismissed any talk of disunity within his campaign organization and spoke optimistic about his chances while reminding republicans what makes him so unique. >> i just want to tell you the campaign is doing really well. it's never been so well united. we started on june 16th. i would say right now it's the best in terms of being united that it's been since we began. you know, the route to the white house for the republicans is much more difficult.

meeting of that kind. this campaign is totally focussed, totally focussed on strengthening america. >> now, the controversy over trump's dispute with a fallen u.s. army captain's family continued yesterday as dakota meyer elaborated of his criticism of trump, it needed to be said what he doesn't understand is it's a sacred family to the whole nation, that's why they're called a gold star family. meyer, who supported republican rick perry and is the son-in-law of sarah palin added -- nobody wants to vote for hillary clinton, but what i want is a commander in chief who definitely understands the people he'll be leading, people who sacrificed more than myself like the khan family. last night in jacksonville, trump met with and highlighted gold star families in attendance. >> just a little while ago i met with the gold star families. i met with six families that were -- just like incredible people. and a gentleman handed me a check and he said, you know mr.

>> the obama administration is shooting down report that some officials warned against that secret $400 million shipment to iran as lawmakers demand answers. the justice department is refuting "the wall street journal's" latest piece. the paper reported that senior officials objected to sending the money at the same time iran was releasing four americans in january. but their concerns were overruled by the state department. fully supported the ultimate outcome of the administration's resolution of several issues with iran, the payment was returning iranian cash, part of the settlement of a decade's long dispute over a failed arms deal. the state department also rejected the journal's claim y saying this was fully an interagency decision and any neegs the state department has the right the right to overrule

is wrong. house ryan said that if the accusations prove to be true, quote, it would mark another chapter in the on going saga of misleading the american people to sell this dangerous nuclear deal. senators tom cotton and marco rubio echoed ryan's suspicions. >> at the same time, this cold, hard cash was flown in to iran in an unmarked aircraft and these hostages were released was the final implementation of the nuclear deal with iran. obviously i and many others had been sharply critical of the president for not negotiating the release of all these hostages before he even sat down at the table to talk about the nuclear deal. so i suspect that he wanted to have these hostages gone, even though the price of it was $400 million and small unmarked bills flying into iran on an unmarked aircraft like it was a drug cartel transaction, not legitimate negotiation between two governments. >> that sort of ransom payment

as part of the iran deal is an outrage and scandal. that's actually something that has happened, not something someone is saying they'll do when they become president, that's something that actually happened. one woman is dead, another five people injured after a man went on a stabbing spree in london. reports of a man slashing people emerged just after 10:00 p.m. local time last night. police arrested a 19-year-old man but a motive remains unclear. >> early indications suggest that mental health is a significant factor in this case and terrorism as a motivation remains but one line of questioning to explore. we'll have a live report at the end of the hour for you from london. another american is charged with trying to help isis. this latest arrest is capturing more attention because the suspect is a transit officer in our nation's capital. the accused is the first u.s.

law enforcement officer to face such charges. >> police and federal agents search the suburban washington home of nicholas young a 13-year veteran accused of helping a man he thought went overseas to join isis but who was working under cover for the fbi. investigators say the fbi has been watching young and his house in fairfax, virginia for nearly six years, ever since a friend was arrested for trying to join a terror group in somalia and another friend was arrested for plotting to set off a bomb. >> we knew something was weird about him, we just never expected it to be something like that. >> reporter: court documents say young was interviewed by the fbi five times over the years telling them he had a german eagle tattooed on his neck and twice went to libya to join rebels fighting the gadhafi regime. he posed as an isis convert and

it's been almost two months since a gunman killed 49 people, murdered in that orlando nightclub. now the fate of the pulse nightclub remains uncertain. the mayor wants the city to buy the property and turn it into a memorial. he and the owner of the club have already held preliminary talks but nothing has been decided. the makeshift memorial outside the club continues to grow since that june 12th attack. one visitor says he likes the idea of a permanent memorial. >> when you look at what happened at new york city at ground zero, there's memorials down there for a similar tragedy. it's a very good idea so people can remember the type of anger and hate that happened here. >> as for the club's owner said she wants it it stay as a tribute to the people who died there. a troubling new report from the u.s. government says that veteran suicides rose by nearly a third since the turn of the century. there was a 32% increase in veteran suicides from 2001 to 2014. now, that was 20 suicides a day in 2014.

that's a 21% greater risk than civilians. there was also a sharp increase in risk among those who did not use v.a. services. there are more than 21 1/2 million veterans in the united states and according to the study, only about eight million use the department services. now to the fight against zika, first here in the states in the wake of the first home grown cases discovered in florida, governor rick scott announced that free zika screening tests will be offered to women in the state. all cases are in the miami area. meanwhile, the pentagon says 33 u.s. members overseas have contracted the virus including a pregnant woman. the pentagon has not revealed where they're stationed or the identity. there's a call for more funding for zika control. the head of health and human services says most of the half billion dollars earmarked for zika will be gone by the end of september, though there's been criticism the money isn't being spent fast enough.

zika-fighting measures may need to be cut back if congress with holds additional funding. let's get a check on the weather now with bill karins. what's it look like? how about that hurricane? >> it hit belize a lot harder than people were expecting. it made landfall 2:00 a.m. local time. it hit the capital. i saw many pictures where the water was in around the neighborhoods and also the power is out in many spots there. it will be a day of cleanup. it's not like devastation tomorrow, but probably a while before the power comes back for some of those people. during the day today it will probably down lower to a depression by the time we get to the this evening. doesn't like it will regenerate clo close to mexico. central mexico won't have to deal with a power storm. bring it home to the lower 48. the big story is still the heat

in the south. we have heat advisories from shreveport to little rock. it could feel like up to 115 in the shade today. that's hot. still only flash flood watches throughout much of the four corner region here. we had numerous thunderstorms between vegas and bull head city we have flash flood warnings. doesn't take much in these areas with that kind of terrain that's hilly there, too. so a lot of the washes i'm sure they're having some problems. we'll get you any pictures of that if we get it in when the sunrises this morning. the other story is we had about six tornados last night in north dakota. thankfully they were misses. they didn't destroy anything. then we'll watch isolated strong storms today, wisconsin, iowa, four million people at risk there. there's still great weather out there. this is the nicest stretch of summer we had from washington, d.c. north wards through new england. enjoy today. low temperatures, low humidity. >> i tell you, it has been really nice. thank you very much, bill karins, since you are directly responsible.

donald trump has nearly drawn even in the race to raise funds against hillary clinton. trump announced yesterday they raised $82 million in july with the bulk coming in the form of small donations. 64 million of that total was raised through digital and direct mail solicitations with another 16 million coming in via fund raising efforts. in addition, the candidate himself donated $2 million to his campaign. >> the beautiful thing about the 82 million is that a lot of that money came from small donors, which republicans really don't get. they really don't get them. bernie got them, but a lot of it came from the small donors. i think it was averaging $61 a piece. and we took in $82 million. you believe this? >> i was shocked. i think it would raise 20, $21 million. i'll put up a lot and we'll just go along. $82 million! lot of money.

positive step. we also know that our businesses want to now do business with iran and we're taking that very carefully. and we also know that there are outstanding legal challenges by the iranian government against the united states government and other u.s. interests. >> on the trail in florida, trump claimed to have seen video from the iranian government of that money being delivered. >> you just wonder who is making decisions like this where you take $400 million, they put it in small containers and probably pretty large containers actually, and they bring it over to iran. and you say, who is making these decisions? whose decision is that? that's all emanating from one of the worst deals ever made in this country, the deal we made with iran and that probably was hostage money to get hostages

one woman is dead, another five people injured after a man went on a stabbing spree in london. reports of a man slashing at people emerged just after 10:00 p.m. local time last night in russells square. police arrested a 19-year-old man but a motive remains unclear. >> early indications suggest that mental health is a significant factor in this case and that is one major line of inquiry. terrorism as a motivation remains but one line of inquire rye for us to explore. >> for more we go live to matt bradley in london. matt a couple different lines of inquiry going on with this investigation, right? >> reporter: that's right. it's hard to know what the police are looking into. we do know they're not ruling out terrorism. in fact, there is a terrorism of the police that is participating
