it's been almost two months since a gunman killed 49 people, murdered in that orlando nightclub. now the fate of the pulse nightclub remains uncertain. the mayor wants the city to buy the property and turn it into a memorial. he and the owner of the club have already held preliminary talks but nothing has been decided. the makeshift memorial outside the club continues to grow since that june 12th attack. one visitor says he likes the idea of a permanent memorial. >> when you look at what happened at new york city at ground zero, there's memorials down there for a similar tragedy. it's a very good idea so people can remember the type of anger and hate that happened here. >> as for the club's owner said she wants it it stay as a tribute to the people who died there. a troubling new report from the u.s. government says that veteran suicides rose by nearly a third since the turn of the century. there was a 32% increase in veteran suicides from 2001 to 2014. now, that was 20 suicides a day in 2014.

that's a 21% greater risk than civilians. there was also a sharp increase in risk among those who did not use v.a. services. there are more than 21 1/2 million veterans in the united states and according to the study, only about eight million use the department services. now to the fight against zika, first here in the states in the wake of the first home grown cases discovered in florida, governor rick scott announced that free zika screening tests will be offered to women in the state. all cases are in the miami area. meanwhile, the pentagon says 33 u.s. members overseas have contracted the virus including a pregnant woman. the pentagon has not revealed where they're stationed or the identity. there's a call for more funding for zika control. the head of health and human services says most of the half billion dollars earmarked for zika will be gone by the end of september, though there's been criticism the money isn't being spent fast enough.

zika-fighting measures may need to be cut back if congress with holds additional funding. let's get a check on the weather now with bill karins. what's it look like? how about that hurricane? >> it hit belize a lot harder than people were expecting. it made landfall 2:00 a.m. local time. it hit the capital. i saw many pictures where the water was in around the neighborhoods and also the power is out in many spots there. it will be a day of cleanup. it's not like devastation tomorrow, but probably a while before the power comes back for some of those people. during the day today it will probably down lower to a depression by the time we get to the this evening. doesn't like it will regenerate clo close to mexico. central mexico won't have to deal with a power storm. bring it home to the lower 48. the big story is still the heat

one woman is dead, another five people injured after a man went on a stabbing spree in london. reports of a man slashing at people emerged just after 10:00 p.m. local time last night in russells square. police arrested a 19-year-old man but a motive remains unclear. >> early indications suggest that mental health is a significant factor in this case and that is one major line of inquiry. terrorism as a motivation remains but one line of inquire rye for us to explore. >> for more we go live to matt bradley in london. matt a couple different lines of inquiry going on with this investigation, right? >> reporter: that's right. it's hard to know what the police are looking into. we do know they're not ruling out terrorism. in fact, there is a terrorism of the police that is participating
