well and we could have a real discussion about isis and the role of the president in this fight. but for donald trump to say that a sitting president of the united states is a co-founder or founder of a terrorist organization is disgusting to me. there's no room or place in the national dialogue for that. this is not for him or at least how i received it is not a full discussion about issues, it's actually creating a sense of -- it's sort of contributing to that dystopian belief or sentiment that donald trump likes to promote and it's disgusting to me. there's no room for this. >> jason, donald trump also tweeted this. i love watching these poor, pathetic people, pundits, on television working so hard and so seriously to try and figure me out. they can't! why is that a good thing? for many, many voters out there, for all voters out there, especially undecided ones who donald trump and hillary clinton need to rein in, don't you want to have a clear message?
6:53 am
don't you want people to understand you? >> well, i don't know if you're referring to me as being one of those poor and pathetic people, but i think having worked for kind of a nonpolitician myself in dr. ben carson, these two candidates have broken the mold on what a candidate is in this day and age. and so i think it is very difficult for people to -- you know, that are in this business to understand that they're not going to be your typical politician and say the politically correct words that are needed in every situation, that they're going to speak off the cuff and they're going to speak as if they're speaking to the people out at these rallies, et cetera, because those are the people they communicate with on a daily basis. >> but when does that cross a line, because it's exactly that, that lack of political correctness, that different voice, that's why people like donald trump so much. but when does that side messaging, the off-the-cuff comments that need apologies,
6:54 am
when do they become too much? he should be turning to the economy and jobs, which he claims is his central platform, yet since his speech on monday, we've barely heard it. >> well, i think we are doing a lot of that in talking about the economy. the media does like to highlight kind of the controversy more so than they do kind of the boring policy aspect of things. and i think -- >> hold on a second. hold on. hold on. that's such a generalization. we're covering the thing -- donald trump has said this ten times yesterday. he had the opportunity to talk more about his economic plan, to dig down into where he's going to have tax deductions, but he didn't. over and over he said president obama is the founder of isis. so how is it the media choosing that? this is the candidate choosing his talking points at his events. >> no, and -- don't get me wrong, i'm not saying it as a criticism, i'm saying that that's the business of the media is to highlight the sensationalism of different aspects of whatever the news is that day as opposed to going in
6:55 am
and kind of looking at exactly what the underlying meaning is on a lot of these cases. yesterday we have a situation where we have new e-mails that are coming out that are showing the clinton foundation and the department of state are actually colluding together on helping foundation donors. so we looked at that a little bit but we focus on the aspect. >> there's no collusion there. the truth of the matter there is donald trump has had this approach to politics since he started running for office. that approach suggests to me that he will not be content until every political institution and most political leaders are dragged down with him, leaving nothing in its wake. instead of building up and trying to unite, he's busy trying to tear things down. and that, i think, is the inherent problem here. he doesn't know when to stop, and that means to me that there's no proven leadership there. there's a leadership that is unrestrained, and that to me is more dangerous than sglig all

right, jason, we're out of time. thank you so much, both of you, for joining me this morning. you're watching msnbc. we'll be right back. most ribs en while calf roping... >>yep, greatness deserves recognition. you got any trophies, cowboy? ♪ whoomp there it is uh, yeah... well, uh, well there's this one. >>best insurance mobile app? yeah, two years in a row. >>well i'll be... does that thing just follow you around? like a little puppy! the award-winning geico app. download it today. i'm hall of famer jerry west and my life is basketball. but that doesn't stop my afib from leaving me at a higher risk of stroke. that'd be devastating. i took warfarin for over 15 years until i learned more about once-daily xarelto... a latest generation blood thinner. then i made the switch. xarelto® significantly lowers the risk of stroke in people with afib not caused by a heart valve problem. it has similar effectiveness to warfarin.

warfarin interferes with vitamin k and at least six blood clotting factors. xarelto® is selective targeting one critical factor of your body's natural clotting function. for people with afib currently well managed on warfarin, there is limited information on how xarelto and warfarin compare in reducing the risk of stroke. like all blood thinners, don't stop taking xarelto without talking to your doctor, as this may increase your risk of a blood clot or stroke. while taking you may bruise more easily, and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. xarelto may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. xarelto can cause serious, and in rare cases fatal bleeding. get help right away for unexpected bleeding, unusual bruising or tingling. if you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto watch for back pain or any nerve or muscle related signs or symptoms. do not take xarelto if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. tell your doctor before all planned medical or dental procedures. before starting xarelto tell your doctor about any conditions, such as kidney, liver or bleeding problems. to help protect yourself from a stroke, ask your doctor about xarelto.

that he created the vacuum and lost the peace. >> no, i meant he was the founder of isis, i do. he was the most valuable player. i give him the most valuable player award. >> but he's not sympathetic to them, he hates them. >> he was the founder. the way he got out of iraq, that was the founding of isis. >> they just sat back and waited, and when we left, basically isis was formed. and he calls it isil. the reason he calls it isil, he likes to bother everybody. but isis was formed. and -- >> but aren't those statements inflammatory when you say something like that? >> i tell the truth. i tell the truth. actually a lot of people like that i said it. he is the founder of isis. and hillary clinton is right there with him. >> so trump's defense comes as he and republicans are mired in reports of a serious break in unity. his team and top party officials are scheduled to meet today, contradicting more dire reports, a high-level rnc source told me this morning i
