it's burn more than 56 square miles since tuesday morning. the ray fire has quickly charged 600 acres after forming just yesterday afternoon. people who live nearby have been forced to evacuate. the fire is burning in a remote and rugged area making it tough to fight. however officials say it's 20% contained. and then there's the chimney fire also grew in size yesterday, fed by heavy gusting winds, standing at 11,000 acres although officials have contained a third of that fire. the four olympic swimmers who they were victims of an armed robbery in rio de janeiro made up their story. theyiz they vandalized a local bathroom at a gas station. just a few hours ago, james feigen appeared in a court. he'll going to pay $10,000 and be able to leave rio today.

this footage shows the swimmers leaving a party at club france. the swimmers got into a taxi. by 6:06 a.m. they're at this gas station. this video shows them near the bathroom. when an attendant walks. one they run out. the they tried to leave and the station called police. at 6:09 a man approaches the cab appearing to point a gun at the car for nine seconds. three minutes later the swimmers get out. one appears to pull money from his wallet, another puts his hands up. at 6:56 a.m. the four men arrive back at the athletes village. both the video and police account are inconsistent with what ryan lochte told the "today"' shows billy bush on sunday. >> we got pulled over in our taxi. and then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead, said get down.

chairman paul manafort remains in scrutiny today. the associated press reports that manford and his deputy rick gates directed a covert lobbying without registering their work. manford and gates have said they did not do work that required registration. the ap shows they obtained e-mails showing they were involved in the partnership which could violate the foreign registration act. the ukrainian government has released ledgers that came to show cash payments earmarked for manford though they do not know if they were actually made. m m bill clinton said he would resign from the board. the nominee has seen her unfavorable numbers raise under the waiting of scrutiny over the

a cool treat will make it to the areas of the east but not until monday or tuesday. d.c. will get a break from the really hot summer. the fire weather has been trouble and now we have record heat in the northwest this weekend. seattle is going to be 95. seattle will be one of the warmest spots anywhere east of the rockies. it's very rare for seattle to be warmer than every. portland will be 102 and it could be 106 and 109 in medford. a lot of heat in the west and the fires burning throughout the region. 33 large fires burning throughout the west and these highs this weekend and the winds, it's going to be difficult out there. forecast for today, heat warnings in the northwest were thunderstorms in the plains. we track the colder air into the ohio valley on saturday and then on sunday you're going to have to watch out for thunderstorms especially upstate new york, northern new england and back down through areas of kentucky and tennessee. we'll watch that throughout the

welcome back. earlier we told you about the state department's admission that it delay a $400 million

payment to iran for lempl over the release of american priso r prisone prisoners. let's bring in matt bradley. can that payment be considered ransom? >> the obama administration is still denying that it paid ransom but they're now saying that the cash was used for quote maximum leverage to secure release of four americans who were being held prisoner in iran. that's still some very different language compared to when the story first broke two weeks ago. back then opponents of the iran deal seized upon this story. these are people who have been slammed the agreement as a sellout to iran. and donald trump and congressional americans called it evidence that the u.s. paid ransom for prisoners back in january. this new debate started earlier this month when "the wall street journal" described stacks of foreign cash, $400 million being loaded on to an airplane bound for iran. the money was part of a much larger $1.7 billion payout that the u.s. owed iran for a
