canceled. only to be contradicted by the candidate who tweeted, changing venue too much larger one demand is unreal. polls looking great. trump's immigration message has left many confused. he described his position as both softening, and hardening, within a few days of each other and trump did not elaborate while in iowa this weekend again pledging to target immigrant gangs and claiming the media is missing the point. >> all the media wants to talk about is the 11 million people, or more, or less, they have no idea what the number is because we have no control over our country. but my priority, and really it's for the well-being of everybody, but in particular, the 300 million americans and more, and all of our hispanic citizens, and all of our african-american citizens, legal residents who want a secure border, and i mean secure. on day one, i'm going to begin swiftly removing criminal

now aldridge was -- is not to believed to be the intended target of the men who police say have gang affiliations. both were on parole one released from prison just two weeks before the shooting. aldridge's death found its way into the political arena on saturday when donald trump tweeted about it. quote, dwyane wade's cousin was shot and killed walking her baby in chicago. just what i have been saying african-americans will vote trump. trump misspelled wade's name in the tweet. three hours later twum corrected the misspelling replacing it with the same tweet. nearly another hour and a half after that trump offered his condolences to wade and his family in the loss of nykea aldridge telling them that they are in my thoughts and prayers. trump was criticized for insensitivity but his running mate mike pence said it was creation of the media. >> do you think that was a presidential reaction to a tragedy? >> well, right after that he issued his -- a tweet expressing his prayers, and his thoughts and his condolences --

>> but this is a pattern when there's a tragedy he sends a tweet talking about how this is going to help his campaign. >> look, can i just make the point? a lot of you people in the media spend more time talking about what donald trump said and tweeted in the last three days than you do focusing on what the clintons have been up to for the last 30 years. >> well, hillary clinton's running mate tim kaine is escalating attacks on donald trump during a rally on friday kaine tried to link trump with the values of the ku klux klan. >> hillary clinton gave a speech in reno, nevada, calling out donald trump on a lot of things on this equality idea. calling him out on the fact that he has supporters like david duke connected with the ku klux klan who are going around and saying donald trump is their candidate, because donald trump is pushing their values. ku klux klan values, david duke values, donald trump values, are not american values. they're not our values and we've got to do all we can to fight to push back and win.

electoral vote side but also because it is so close, it's a place where we're going to spend a lot of time. >> a democratic source tells nbc news that the super pac backing hillary clinton does not plan on running any more ads in virginia this election season. at the same time, independent candidate evan mcmullen has reportedly collected enough signatures to qualify for the ballot in that battleground state. meanwhile a group of anti-trump republicans are going after the gop nominee in a tv ad set to air in several swing states. in the new spot titled keep your word, the group is urging donald trump to drop out of the presidential race. >> number one, i'm not a masochist, and if i was dropping in the polls where i saw that i wasn't going to win, why would i continue? i believe in polls. how many elections do you see where the polls were wrong? not that many. okay. you see them but not that many. if i were doing poorly, if i saw myself going down, i'd go

heard shots fired, or active shooter, run. people didn't really know what to do. there were lots of people sitting in buses, passengers on the tarmac. some standing around in groups. trying to find out what happened. there were people who claim that they had heard pops or shots. other people like us heard nothing but run and saw the crowds and reacted in the appropriate manner as you would in a situation like that. when we were coming from the remote terminal to the main terminal we saw two police cars at very high rate of speed zipping past airplanes on an active taxiway to the terminal. and then of course moments later were met by people running down -- down the stairs. my mind immediately went two things, that "a" this is real. or, we're seeing a repeat of what we had seen in new york a couple of weeks ago with a mass panic based on people hearing what they thought were the sounds of shots. >> now lester holt was referring to the situation two weeks ago at new york's jfk where there was an evacuation based on

reports of a shooter which turned out to be people cheering for usain bolt at the olympics. the all-clear was given at l.a.x. a short time later after a police investigation concluded that loud noises caused the panic. in what appeared to be a separate incident, though, a man dressed as zoro complete with cape, mask and plastic sword, was detained by police at the airport around the same time. a witness says he was giving out hugs. and a small mississippi community will gather today to pay their final respects to the two nuns found murdered in their home last week as authorities continue to question the man who confessed to the crime. a wake was held for sisters margaret held and paula merrill that was last night they were discovered stabbed to death on thursday after they did not show up for work. and yet family members are already trying to show compassion for the men accused of their murder. >> this is not a hate crime. i'm positive it's fuelled by something other than that. or maybe all of the other terrible things that he has

lived through in his life. i forgive him. i don't understand why he did it. i would like to know that. but if i don't find out the world won't end. >> the man police say confessed to the crime has not given them a reason as he yet as to why he did it. 46-year-old rodney earl sanders was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder late friday. he's currently being held awaiting his initial court appearance. beloved mexican singer juan gabriel has died at the age of 66. gabriel also known as el diveo dejuarez was a successful vocalist and wrongwriter selling more than 100 million albums worldwide. also nominated for six grammys. his family says he died of a heart attack in santa monica, california, yesterday morning. he gave his final performance saturday night in front of a sellout crowd. mexican president tweeted his condolences saying gabriel was a voice and a talent that represented mexico.

storm. last night there was a really bad scene around cincinnati. we were under a flash flood warning. this is saint bernard, ohio, i mean that's a lot of water. that's rushing fast, too. yeah. and there goes something floating down. we could -- you know i'm not going to see anything like that during the day. isolated thunderstorm could do some downpours outside of the tropics. we have two tropical systems. a tropical depression 8, tropical depression 9, if they get named they'll become tropical storms. one is right here. you saw the flare-up that has died off heading for eastern north carolina. good news for them. and the one we were watching all last week has made it through the florida straits and is just north of cuba. a lot of thunderstorms over cuba, but so far not showing any signs of developments. just got the brand-new forecast in from the hurricane centers. first the one that's going to impact eastern north carolina. they only bring it up to about 45-mile-per-hour winds as it passes by the outer banks near cape hatteras. so that's not much of an issue

for the outer banks. that's barely even it's going to be a breezy day, rip currents will be a threat for people at the beach. larger than normal waves good for the surfers. that's really the only impact. now we focus our attention to the water in the gulf. this is where the water is very warm this time of year. you don't like to have any storm down there in the gulf, let alone a system that's going to sit for two to three days. that's going to be the case. the hurricane center thinks that the winds are going to only strengthen to 50 to 60 miles per hour by the time it makes it to the big bend of florida. that would be a medium impact tropical storm. then crossing over florida, and then heading out here into areas of the open atlantic as it strengthens possibly to a hurricane. louis we still have to watch that. we have a storm that's going to be in the gulf of mexico for three days over some of the warmest water on the planet. that's the fuel for these storms. we'll watch that closely over the next three days. >> bill it seems like hurricane season has arrived. >> it is. and there's another tropical wave coming off of the coast of africa a lot of our computers are taking to the caribbean or possibly you know towards --

>> double digits by the time this is all -- >> probably. we thought we'd have a more active season. >> all right guys. let's turn to business real quick here as health insurers continue to drop out of obamacare. marketplace is facing what could start to feel like a monopoly in 2017. cnbc's hadley gamble joins us live from london. hadley, the latest in what seems like a rash of bad headlines for the white house about the president's signature law. what do you got for us? >> it does indeed. really this just adds up to less options and potentially higher costs for consumers. because essentially what we've heard is in a new study by the kaiser found anxious some 31% of u.s. counties by 2017 will have only one insurance option for consumers, and another 31% will only have two insurance options, so some bad news for consumers. this is all off the back of this major pullback from health insurers they said that they've been losing money since this legislation came into effect. now another story that we are watching is what's happening with commercial drones. new laws that come into effect today will essentially allow

yesterday kaepernick explained he is trying to raise awareness, pointing to issues of police brutality and racial divide in the united states. he told reporters, quote, when there's significant change and i feel that the flag represents what it's supposed to represent in this country is representing people in the way it's supposed to i'll stand. you can imagine that decision prompted plenty of back lash, including people posting videos online burning his jerseys. all right let's go to the baseball diamond real quick here in new york the orioles mark trumbo extends the lead to five thanks to this shot in the eighth inning. it's his 40th run of the season. the o's beat the yanks 5-0. the blue jays donaldson making a bold statement that he should be the american league mvp launching not one, not two, but three long balls in yesterday's win over the twins. fans showered the field with their caps after he completed that home run hat trick in the bottom of the eighth inning the

trying to find out what happened. there were people who claim that they had heard pops or shots. other people like us heard nothing but run and saw the crowds and reacted in the appropriate manner as you would in a situation like that. when we were coming from the remote terminal to the main terminal we saw two police cars at very high rate of speed zipping past airplanes on an active taxiway to the terminal. and then of course moments later were met by people running down -- down the stairs. my mind immediately went two things, that "a" this is real. or, we're seeing a repeat of what we had seen in new york a couple of weeks ago with a mass panic based on people hearing what they thought were the sounds of shots. >> now lester holt was referring to the situation two weeks ago at new york's jfk where there was an evacuation based on reports of a shooter which turned out to be people cheering for usain bolt at the olympics. the all-clear was given at l.a.x. a short time later after a police investigation concluded that loud noises caused the

panic. in what appeared to be a separate incident, though, a man dressed as zorro complete with cape, mask and plastic sword, was detained by police at the airport around the same time. a witness says he was giving out hugs. >> quite a sight there. two united airlines pilots are due in court today in scotland after being arrested preflight for allegedly being drunk. the pilots, who are 35 and 45 years old were arrested on saturday prior to a flight from scotland to new jersey carrying 141 passengers. that flight was delayed almost ten hours while a replacement crew was found. united airlines says both pilots have been removed from service pending an investigation. now this is the second time in a little over a month that pilots have been arrested for being impaired. two canadian pilots were arrested in july, also at glasgow airport for drinking prior to a flight. and still ahead, betty, 49ers quarterback colin kaepernick finds his protest of the national anthem saying he will continue to sit down until

affecting the u.s. a tropical storm watch that is up for the outer banksle of north carolina. looks like a minimal impact storm for them so that's great news for everyone from wilmington through new bern and atlantic beach to cape hatteras area. it's going to come close tohe outer banks, and then hook out. most likely tuesday morning is when it will be closest. maybe some rain squalls with it. winds are only going to be 40 to 45 miles per hour. no damage will be done with that. we'll get some high waves so people that are venture into the water rip currents could be a threat to life but that's about it. then our attention goes to the one down in the gulf and of course, this is where we have famous storms. this is where some of the biggest storms we've ever seen have formed and gotten extremely strong. this looks like it's going to wrap up back up towards florida. this area is very susceptible because of the geography. any storms that approach like this, even a weak storm, coastal flooding is going to be a possibility from fort myers to tampa sarasota northward depending on how strong it gets. the stronger it gets the worse the flooding would be. right now the hurricane center

thinks about a 60-mile-per-hour tropical storm. a little bit of a punch with it. this is a pretty unpopulated area, cedar keys located here. we'll have to see how strong it gets. it has about three days over the gulf and then it's going to head out to the atlantic. could brush south carolina and north carolina again you are in that cone of uncertainty and they do bring it almost up to hurricane strength in about five days. rain fall definitely is going to be an issue. we will see as much as eight inches of rain right along the immediate coastline. about one to four inches will be up here along the gulf coast side. but the florida side, that's where the highest rainfall totals would be. forecast for today all your travels look pretty nice today. i know we had horrible flooding in the cincinnati area last night. those thunderstorm have since dried up and they're all gone. look at the pictures from this. this was a flash flood emergency that was issued right around sunset last night in ohio. greater cincinnati area. ben if we're going to get downpours today watch out dallas-ft. worth san antonio houston new orleans and tampa especially along the gulf. this is about as warm as it gets louis. things are looking much cooler next weekend for much areas of

welcome back. recovery efforts in italy continue following last week's devastating earthquake. now officials are looking at whether the death toll may have climbed higher as a result of building contractors cutting corners. nbc news correspondent lucy kafanov joins us now. good morning, lucy. what do you see there at this hour? >> good morning, betty. well emergency response crews are still digging in amatrice

the hardest hit area but hope of finding survivors is all but gone at this stage. the focus finding and recovering the bodies and clearing the rubble. one area in which they have stopped searching, however, is pescara del tronto. a tiny mountaintop village that was almost completely pulverized in the quake. it is now off limits because of the danger there but our cameras got rare access inside there. rebuilding is going to be virtually impossible. there's almost nothing left there. authorities are investigating whether fraud and shoddy construction practices might have contributed to the high death toll including looking at a school that was supposed to be earthquake proof that had completely collapsed. also another concern, whether the mafia is going to get its hands on the lucrative building contracts. that is a point raised by italy's top prosecutor this morning. organized crime obviously still a big issue here. but look rebuilding is not going to be easy for one it's a matter of money the vast majority of italians do not take out homeowners insurance let alone earthquake insurance. and while the government is scrambling to find housing for more the more than 2700 people
