"the post" reporting it will be between a fund-raiser in california, and a major speech on immigration in arizona. now last at about 10:30 eastern trump confirmed saying i have accepted the invitation of president enrique pena nieto of mexico and look forward to meeting him tomorrow. "the post" reports peen yeto extended the offer to trump and clinton and trump pushed for a visit this week. among those advocating the trip according to reports were

out on the battlefield surveying the operations that isis was engaged in. so to give you a sense that he wasn't just an inspirational figure and somebody who would just put out these recordings but somebody who had a tactical perspective within the organization. so that's going to be a huge setback for isis. but in the long-term we've seen isis have the ability to generate new leadership when other ones have been killed. so this is going to be a significant setback in the short-term, but in the long-term, you can imagine that isis is going to have a new generation of leaders that would be willing to step in and fill that role at some point. >> ayman mohyeldin, thanks so much for your reporting on that. hillary clinton spent last night fund-raising for a third day in the upscale beach towns of the hamptons in new york. the final stop was a star-studded affair. hillary clinton danced with sir paul mccartney while jimmy buffett played cheeseburger in paradise at his home. the night reportedly ended with the former beatle, buffett and jon bon jovi singing hey jude. but while they danced inside,

more news made a splash outside about her use of private e-mails. the state department revealed yesterday it has found as many as 30 additional e-mails from her server that may be related to the benghazi attacks. those e-mails come from the cache of 15,000 the fbi had to recover forensically, but some could be duplicates. and later today the fbi may release their report they handed over to the justice department, not recommending charges, which could include agent notes. and in florida, senator marco rubio easily won his republican primary. he walked away with 72% of the vote over his top challenger. come november rubio will face congressman patrick murphy who won the democratic senate primary with nearly 60% of the vote. donald trump's running mate mike pence tweeted a photo of his phone call congratulating him on the win. kasie hunt also caught up with rubio after his victory and asked him about what florida voters see in donald trump. >> you once said that donald trump is going to make america

welcome back. time to get a check on your weather with nbc meteorologist bill karins. bill, hurricane lester, hurricane madeline, all kind of heading towards hawaii. >> yeah. those two definitely have hawaii's attention. while we are in the southeast u.s. and even on the east coast all watching what's going to happen in the gulf of mexico. the new advisory from the national hurricane center. there are some changes, new warnings and the forecast track has shifted. affecting millions of more people than what was expected yesterday. so let me get into the details. first thing we're watching the storm. it's still out over the open waters of the gulf, thankfully it hasn't strengthened. it's gotten a little bit larger but the winds haven't picked up as of yet. i mean, we're lucky that this is not turning into a beast of a storm. because with this forecast path going to affect millions of people. we want it to remain as weak as possible. it has 48 hours to intensify,

after that it really shouldn't. what has changed. tropical storm warnings are now in effect, this is the tampa area. the orange is a tropical storm warning north of tampa to cedar key back across the northern portions of florida, apalachicola, panama city. so yesterday things weren't looking too bad in panama city, apalachicola. forecast has shifted a little bit further to the west and it looks like more of a direct impact in the tallahassee area, too. so we're going to have to watch that. the yellow is tropical storm watches. let me give you the new forecast path from the hurricane center. still tropical depression. they believe by 1:00 a.m., probably about later today, 5:00 p.m. named hermione and take that storm towards tallahassee. 65-mile-per-hour winds, that's not enough to do a lot of significant damage so that's good. but still we will get some storm surge problems through the big bend back to tampa. notice how far inland this track is now. north of savannah to charleston, direct hit south carolina, and all through north carolina. notice the winds don't diminish. if anything it could intensify as it comes back off the coast.

for all of those areas we have to watch it. finally what's also interesting is that the cone does now include eastern long island, rhode island, and all the way up to the boston area. the forecast path still has it going offshore but there are some computer models that take it back toward new england later on saturday into saturday night. so a lot of things to watch. the biggest thing, though, is we need this thing to stay weak because it looks for certain to affect millions. >> going to be a wet holiday weekend for a lot of folks. >> most of it will be gone by saturday afternoon. but, it's going to be interesting. >> okay, bill, thank you. the embattled governor of maine hinted yesterday that he may step down amid calls for his resignation only to just hours later reject the idea. in a radio interview governor paul lepage apologized for threatening a state lawmaker last week and openly questioned whether he was still up to the task of governing. >> i'm looking at all options. i think some things i've asked to do are beyond my ability and i'm not going to say that i'm not going to finish it.

i'm not saying that i am going to finish it. if i've lost my ability to convince the maine people that's what we need and that's the type of people we need in augusta, then you know, maybe it is time to move on. >> all right. but hours later, lepage appeared to back track tweeting regarding rumors of resignation to paraphrase mark twain the reports of my political demise are greatly exaggerated. lepage also announced that he would be meeting later today with a lawmaker he threatened. >> i want to look him in the eye and apologize if i have to. but at the same token, i think he owes me a little bit of an apology so i think meeting face-to-face we might be able to resolve things. if we can't, we can't. then we move on. >> state democratic leaders continue to call for lepage to resign after he blamed maine's opioid crisis on blacks and hispanics coming from out of state. however, maine house republicans decided to stand by lepage choosing not to take any action against the governor. more than 1,000 residents in indiana are scrambling to find new homes after finding out the

soil outside of their housing complex is highly toxic, in an incident being compared to the flint, michigan, water crisis. the east chicago residents were nfd last month about the dangerous levels of lead and arsenic in the ground. at the time mayor anthony copeland told residents they would have to move out and the complex would be demolished. but the chicago tribune reports the environmental protection agency says not all residents will be displaced as they try to clean the contaminated soil. meanwhile the northwest indiana times says last month mayor copeland accused the epa of withholding data about the contamination found in the soil. the paper says that the mayor told the agency that early tests found excessive levels of lead in the blood of hundreds of children. the agency told the paper that in retrospect, spikes seen in the initial soil data and more inspection of it could have resulted in action being taken sooner, and they now have 70 people working the site. >> really scary story for those children. all right let's turn now to some entertainment news. r&b singer chris brown was arrested yesterday after a woman

five minutes to write. now let's go to those critical downballot races we've been following, it's on to the general election for senator john mccain after defeating his closest primary challenger by nearly 62,000 votes in last night's senate primary. the long time senator won 52% of the republican vote. followed by kelli edwards' nearly 39%. that means he'll face democratic congresswoman ann kirkpatrick in the general election during his victory speech in phoenix early this morning senator mccain said it's critical for republicans to maintain their majority in congress, and to check the next president no matter whom he or she is. >> republicans must be willing to put forward smart commonsense effective policies and we must be able to resist from a position of strength ideas coming from the next white house, whoever occupies it, that would take the country in the wrong track. it's imperative republicans maintain our majorities in

congress. it's important to america's future that we have a say over the next president's appointments to this united states supreme court. >> speaking after her loss ward said quote sadly the establishment seems to have won this battle by spending untold millions to calm the liberal, dangerous, weak some other things, too she also said the republican party cannot win as a national party if we keep nominating unprincipled career politicians whose only objective is perpetual re-election. we should also note that controversial maricopa county sheriff joe par ao who is accused of racially profiling hispanics during traffic stops also won his primary. and as we go to florida senator marco rubio easily won his republican primary he walked away with 72% of the vote over his top challenger. come november rubio will face congressman patrick murphy who won the democratic senate primary with nearly 60% of the vote. the fall match-up could

hadley, how much would this bill weigh on the future of the company? >> well, that's the big question, betty, isn't it? not just for apple but for other major u.s. multinational companies as well. listen the ec basically said what apple was doing in ireland was illegal paying that 1% or less in corporate tax they said it really wasn't based in economic reality and it isn't as if apple can't afford to pay in 2015 they made a net profit of some you know several several billion here we're talking about $53 billion. but at the end of the day this is going to have a knock-on effect not just in terms of the location of the company going forward but on jobs, and there's a high probability that this cost is going to be passed on to consumers in the u.s. another story that we're watching is this story about this zika blood test apparently the company that made an emergency request for the fda to pass a test that would be able to detect zika in the blood is now withdrawing that request, and essentially that means that they think that the accuracy of the test is in question the fda went after the company they said

kwan mcdonald. all five face administrative charges including making a false report. the officer who fatally shot mcdonald, jason van dijk, is included in those charges. he pled not guilty. the officer's account of events was heavily contradicted by dash cam footage which was released late last year and sparked outrage and protest. the decision comes from a report which recommends ten officers be let go. three of them have already retired and one resigned. president obama is capping the latest -- the last few months of his presidency by continuing his clemency initiative. after granting 214 commutations earlier this month, the most by any president in a single day, yesterday he granted another 111 federal inmates clemency for nonviolent drug crimes. in a single month he has commuted more sentences than any u.s. president has granted in a single year for almost a century. to date the president has commuted the sentences of 673 men and women more than the last ten presidents combined.

betty let's get a check on our weather now with nbc meteorologist bill karins. bill you have florida and hawaii. >> yeah. now we're including georgia, south carolina, north carolina, maybe even portions of virginia, too. we haven't ruled out new england. things changed overnight. a shift to the west of our forecast of what will be tropical storm hermine later on today. this is a new updated forecast path. tallahassee, panama city, pensacola have a possibility of being brushed by this storm. definitely jacksonville. a forecast that's much worse this morning than this time yesterday from savannah to charleston through southern half of south carolina and north carolina. then from here we take the storm off the coast of the outer banks. looks like you're going to be mitt by this one even though you were missed by the one yesterday and even have a slight chance of southern new england being clipped. that would be saturday into saturday night time frame. if you have plans at cape cod out on long island or nantucket martha's vineyard southern rhode island you have to pay close attention to this forecast and make sure the storm doesn't

curve back over the weekend. it's not going to be a huge hurricane but still, forecast may not be as beautiful and sunny as it once looked. the forecast rain, the heaviest rain looks to be north florida thursday friday, southeast friday saturday widespread three to six inches but locally up to ten inches. we could get some flooding problems in northern florida and postal areas and then we have to deal with the storm surge. the worst looks to be north of tampa and then a little bit here possibly around savannah up to charleston, too. so a lot of changes with the forecast overnight. again, this isn't going to be a huge storm, louis, a hurricane, it only has about 48 hours to grow. and let's hope it doesn't because if it did we'd all be in for a long weekend. >> fingers crossed on that one. >> as we go to break let's take a look at the stories that we're not going to cover today. in cape cod some people who paid $210 for a giant lobster at a market and named it big lobby after big papi david ortiz released the crustacean back into the wild last week. the only problem a couple days later people discovered big lobby dead.

the islamic statehood's second in command has reportedly been killed. the terror group's news agency denounced -- or announced the death of abu mohammed al adnani yesterday saying he was killed while surveying the operations to repel the military campaigns against aleppo. the pentagon could not confirm his death but said coalition forces are carrying out air strikes targeting him near the

border of turkey. al adnani is perhaps best known for issuing the proclamation for lone wolves to kill westerners in september of 2014. so let's get more on this. joining me now is msnbc foreign correspondent ayman mohyeldin. just how big of a blow is this death to isis and its operations? >> well, make no mistake about it. this would be the most significant setback for the organization in the short-term. this figure abu mohammed al adnani was a strategist, a tactician, he was somebody that was very much involved in shaping isis. i mean he was essentially part of the dna of the organization going back to its roots in iraq when it was fighting the american occupation back there throughout the early years of the invasion. but, as he emerged as a senior leader within the organization, he took on more responsibilities, and perhaps most importantly he oversaw a lot of the organization's external operations. his ability to inspire lone wolf attacks, as you mentioned. his ability also to shape the group's propaganda. he oversaw a lot of the very

slick videos that we've seen, the very gruesome videos that we've come to see and learn that isis produces, that helps recruit individuals to the battlefield. so there's no doubt that he was extremely important in the day-to-day operations and in the ideology of the organization. but one thing that we've also seen the group capable of doing is it has the ability to generate new leadership, sometimes even more extreme than what we've seen in the past. and in this case, time will tell which direction isis will go following the deadly airstrike. on one hand it could be like al qaeda following the killing of osama bin laden. al qaeda's central was extremely weakened following osama bin laden's killing. or we could see a new generation of isis leaders emerge that are even more potent, more lethal than abu adnani. hard to imagine but a lot of people are going to be in the wings ready to take his place. isis has demonstrated it has the ability to generate that kind of new leadership. >> ayman mohyeldin, thank you. when we come back we'll get a check on the stories in the day ahead.
