2:01 am
good morning, everyone, it's monday, september 12th, i'm betty nguyen. >> first, americans pause yesterday to remember a day that the nation will never forget. it's been 15 years since nearly 3,000 lives were lost on september 11, 2001, and ceremonies were held across the country in honor of the fallen, from ground zero, the pentagon, and in shanksville, pennsylvania. we'll have more on the remembrances in just a moment. hillary clinton has cancelled a trip set for today and tomorrow to california after falling ill during a 9/11 remembrance ceremony. last night her campaign revealed she had been diagnosed with pneumonia days earlier, but that was only said after a morning rife with speculation.
2:02 am
after more than an hour, she left abruptly, appearing unsteady. all the while, the press was left in the dark with the campaign mum on where the democratic nominee was going or what had happened, but video of her entering a van with the help of the secret service showed she was unsteady and clearly required support. she appeared to lean on a post and at one point her legs appeared to buckle. her campaign let out a statement, she felt overheated so she decided to go to her daughter's apartment and is feeling better. she even played with her grand kids there before posing for a photo with a young girl before hopping back in her van. >> how are you feeling, secretary clinton? are you feeling better? >> yes, thank you very much. thanks, everybody. >> clinton then headed home, leaving the press pool in the dust once more as they sat in the city 90 minutes behind her motorcade.
2:03 am
then last night her personal physician revealed in a statement, "secretary clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies. on friday she was diagnosed with pneumonia. she was put on antibiotics and advised to rest and modify her schedule. at this morning's event she became overheated and dehydrated. i have just examined her and is rehydrated and recovering nicely." the former secretary of state didn't disclose her pneumonia because she thought she could power through. now they believe that was a mistake. and "the washington post" initially reported the secret service may have broken protocol in their handling of clinton's departure, telling the paper, the detail had to rush and did not expect clinton to leave at that time and said the secret service generally prefers to the protected individual not to wait for a car to arrive, although that has happened before. but last night the secret service tweeted, "fact check: at
2:04 am
no time did secret service personnel violate protocols" and later, "the secret service is confident in action taken earlier today." the post amended their story. for months donald trump has questioned hillary clinton's fitness to become president. >> she'll stand at the teleprompter, spin around, short speech, then gets off the stage. she goes back home, she goes to sleep. >> to win trade in our country, you need tremendous physical and mental strength and stamina. hillary clinton doesn't have that strength or stamina, believe me, and you know it and they know it and everybody knows it. she didn't go to louisiana. she didn't go to mexico. she was invited.
2:05 am
she doesn't have the strength or the stamina to make america great again. believe me. >> but yesterday the republican nominee said this. >> trump, question about hillary clinton's health incident this morning, her health incident this morning? >> don't know anything about it. >> "the washington post" reports congressman peter king, who was with trump earlier in the day said, "it was actually trump who told me what was going on. he leaned over and told me that hillary wasn't feeling well. i said, really? that was all he said." robert costa reports if asked about clinton's health, trump is supposed to tread somewhat carefully, he may raise questions about the campaign's transparency, but the focus should be on her comments over the weekend. >> friday night hillary clinton seemed to write off half of the support donald trump is garnering. >> you know, to just be grossly

other half of trump's supporters feel left behind and are in search of a change, but an outcry led her to say, "last night i was grossly generalistic and that's never a good idea. i regret saying half, that was wrong, but let's be clear, what is really deplorable is donald trump hired a major add have caught to run his campaign and david duke and other white supremacists see him as a champion of their values. i won't stop calling out bigotry and racist rhetoric in this campaign. many of trump's supporters are hard working americans who just don't feel the economy or our political system are working for them. trump responded with his own statement calling her unfit and incapable to serve. adding, "isn't it disgraceful hillary clinton makes the worst mistake of the political season and instead of owning up to this grotesque attack she turns it
