1:00 pm
do it. in new york state, she ran for the senate and new york is a disaster for jobs. she said i'm going to bring back 200,000 jobs. guess what. right down the tubes. worse today than ever before. how many have watched the debat last night? how many of you? good. we did good. it was amazing. we had a lot of fun. we had a lot of fun. and i would say that hillary is highly overrated. highly. it was fun watching television. most of us gave us unanimous decisions. some of these people were so pained. it was like a painful experience. we are fighting for you. what's good for me is good for you. that's totally 100%. we are going to talk about a lot of things today. i always want you to remember
1:01 pm
this above all else. we will bring back your jobs to pennsylvania and bring back steel. your steel has been stolen from you in this area. natural gas. epsa killing and you your companies and that's going to be turned around on day one if i win. your jobs are coming back to pennsylvania and they are coming back to this area and that means we are going to take care of our steelworkers and our miners. believe me. going to take care of them. we laid out a bold uplifting vision for america. lower taxes, better trade deals. how can you have worse? and millions and millions of new jobs. but all crooked hillary could do was talk about small petty things last night. during the course of 90 minutes, she was exposed and her failures
1:02 pm
were exposed. she had no defense. all she could do was lie. she lied so much last night. they don't like to catch her on the lies. i explained how hillary clinton oversaw the disasters in libya, including the drawing of the infamous red line. she said -- it turned out she was there. she said she was not there. the red line was actually drawn in august of 2012. she was there. she lied about it and said she was not involved in that catastrophe. that was one of many. of course the moderators didn't call her out and didn't call out this lie she told. hillary clinton said she didn't delete her e-mails after a congressional subpoena. but she did. that was another lie. that was a hard to believe. how did she say no to that one?
1:03 pm
the subpoena was sent on march 4, 2015. crooked hillary's e-mails were bleach and destroys. nobody bleaches them. bleaching was so expensive. it's a very expensive process. when you bleach them, it means they are gone. i heard you can't get rid of e-mails. i wonder if the nsa has her e-mails? do you think? i don't think they looked too hard for her e-mails. what do you think? i tell you, i bet, i don't know this for a fact, but within the fbi, you have the greatest americans in the world that are so proud of the fbi and i bet you they are sick to their stomachs at what's happening. sick to their stomach. anyway. her e-mails were enjoyed somewhere between march 25th and
1:04 pm
march 31st. after the congressional subpoena was received. if you are suing somebody privately and they delete and get rid of all your stuff that you subpoena, you got big guts. you know what the consequences are. here's the united states congress. united states congress subpoenaing e-mails and other things and they are gone. now by the way, did you read two boxes of e-mails and materials are now missing. >> very, very sad.
1:05 pm
special prosecutor, here come, right. if i win, we will appoint a special prosecutor. because we cannot allow this to happen to our country. we can't. we are like a third world nation. hillary had no defense for her contract. didn't even try to defend the ridiculous claim that these were 30,000 e-mails about yoga and wedding planning. let's see. 33,000 e-mails deleted, right? i would bet she had three for yoga and maybe five for the wedding. what about the rest? she had no defense when i brought up her failures in iraq, syria and libya. no defense when i brought up failures as a senator promising to create the 200,000 jobs for upstate new york and instead of jobs were shipped to mexico and
1:06 pm
other countries. she had no defense for calling on millions of americans and then saying that they were deplorable, that's you. deplorable. me. all of us. and you know what's worse? irredeemable. which is worse. would you rather be deplorable or err redeemable. that means you have no chance. i think we have the greatest people and the smartest people on earth. we have the smartest people. we have the most loyal people. that's one thing. every poll points out that boy, trump's people is like the most loyal ever. and one thing i know, we will get out and vote. we will be voting. do you remember the primaries? donald trump is behind. voting begins tomorrow. should be very interesting. it looks like mr. trump will not be able to win this thing, but
quote
1:07 pm
he put up a good fight. next day, donald trump wins by 22 points. crazy deal. remember i said brexit is going to happen? i have a lot of property over there. they all laughed. they said donald trump said that brexit is going to happen. isn't he ridiculous. it happens and they never said anything. that's all right. we want our independence back and our borders strong and we don't want people from syria that we have no idea who the hell they are. and as i said last night and i mean this, she has got hatred in
1:08 pm
her heart. she wants to divide america. i want to bring us together as one people. and by the way, we have thousands and thousands of people outside. you know that? you know how lucky you are? you know how lucky you are? and i guess they are not allowing them in. i don't know why. there are thousands of people. where is the fire marshal? let more people come in. i see seats over there. let some people. fire marshal, we need your help. where is our fire marshal? let them come in. we have 3,000 or 4,000 people standing out there. i guess they figure you folks are taking the seats in the very back. we ought to let more people come in. i always get a kick -- i know a
1:09 pm
lot about fire and fire marshals, but you have room with nothing to burn, let the people in. hillary also -- >> that are is donald trump. he just was outside pittsburgh, pennsylvania. this is his first speech since last night. second presidential debate and i'm here in new york picking up the coverage. trying to claim victory in the debate saying he defeated what he called a highly overrated hillary clinton and returning in that speech to many of the themes you heard him stress including on hillary clinton's e-mails. this speech from donald trump and by the way we heard from hillary clinton a few minutes before he took the stage. this speech comes with some evidence coming in this afternoon. the big news politically, evidence that that tape that came out on friday from 2005 of donald trump making crude comments about women, that tape
1:10 pm
is causing serious trouble for donald trump with voters. we had seen over the weekend a number of republican elected officials distanced themselves from him and now we have evidence that it is hurting him with voters. i want to take you through the voters. this is a brand-new "wall street journal" poll. take a look at this. the four-way race. this is in the 48 hours after that tape was released. hillary clinton opening up one of the biggest leads she had in this campaign. 11 points in the four-way race. donald trump sitting there as a major party nominee at 35%. what if you got rid of the two third party candidates. hillary clinton to a 14-point advantage over 50%. the numbers you are seeing, 35, 38 in a two-way. these are the worst performances
1:11 pm
a major party candidate had in the modern era. bob dole got 38% and mondale got 41%. bush and mcgovern, these are the lowest numbers we have seen from party candidates. trump got 38% in the two-way. that issue of the videotape, we asked about that and you can see it is hurting here. people were asked after absorbing that tape, is it inappropriate but typical conversation for men? 31% said inappropriate, but 41% said completely unacceptable. serious damage for donald trump and that poll we showed you, it was conducted before last night's second presidential debate. the question is did the debate make trump's problems worse? did it stabilize in the debate or did he reverse the slide?
1:12 pm
is he on the come back trail? we will have to wait a few days to get a read out. we have early read out. an instant poll conducted and the simple question is who won the debate, hillary clinton by a wide margin. this is skewed a little bit democratic. they had her winning by a bigger margin in the first debate. keep this question in mind and they asked did the candidates meet your expectations and were they better or worse? clinton performed better than expected. if there is one piece of good news in the polling, it's this. 63% responded and 63% said he did perform better than expected. we will see in the coming days how that affects the horse race. in the 48 hours after that video released, a free fall for donald trump. we will see if the debate helped or hurt him or kept it where it is.
1:13 pm
other big news, the poll numbers point to a serious question of a republican party unity and paul ryan holding a conference call and telling them he will not be campaigning with donald trump for the rest of this campaign and not be defending comments. it was a tense call and fellow republicans strongly disagree with that decision by the house speaker. jacob is covering donald trump at that event we were showing you. we understand donald trump was responding to the house speaker. what can you tell us? >> he is as defiant as ever. we started out with hillary clinton having a defense for nothing. all she did was lie. he said she had again hatred in her heart and her goal was to divide america and he called for a special prosecutor to look at
1:14 pm
the situation and again the crowd erupted now for the fifth time and chanted lock her up. they remind of the tweet saying paul ryan should spend more time on balancing the budget and illegal immigration. since i put my earpiece, i haven't been able to hear much, but this feels like the trump we saw during the primaries whose main focus is fighting the establishment. the trump that we saw before he had or tried to and wanted to unite the republican party. and they are voting for him and that's what they want. we have been talking about that and he didn't do what he wanted
1:15 pm
them to do. there is no doubt he is excited in his base, but now we have him fighting the republican party like he did in the primary. >> jacob at that donald trump event taking place right now outside pittsburgh. we mentioned this is donald trump speaking and hillary clinton is back out on the campaign trail after that debate. her rally in detroit in just the last hour. she offered her reaction to the debate. >> last night when i got a chance, i tried to speak directly to the questions that are on people's minds. and to share my vision of what we can can do together. donald trump spent his time attacking when he should have been apologizing.
1:16 pm
now, there are a lot of things he should apologize for, right? and on friday the whole world heard him talking about the terrible way he treats women. and last night when he was pressed about how he behaved, he doubled down on his excuse that it's just locker room banter. i tell you what. women and men across america know that is just a really weak excuse for behaving badly. >> that was hillary clinton in just the last hour. msnbc kacie hunt is on the ground. if there is one strategic criticism in that debate that i heard from her supporters, some it seems are disappointed and
1:17 pm
you heart her making that speech and trying to provoke donald trump. was that intentional? >> i think it was. the tone that you saw her take was very deliberate. you could see it that they had worked very hard on how she was going to present her response to this. i also think that they were very focused on making sure that she did not come across as rattled in the wake of that impromptu photo op with donald trump and the women who have accused bill clinton of various things. it was very important to them to send a message that she was unflappable in the face of that. that played into how you saw her handle herself on stage. clearly the context evolved over the course of time. since then in the wake of the debate. that sound that you just played showed a more fired uphill hill
1:18 pm
clinton who showed how she felt about the remarks and the way that the clinton campaign postured itself behind the scenes at least when the video first came out. that's the challenge for her going forward and maintaining that. the other challenge is going to be not letting themselves get into a complacent groove. i heard and talked to strategists who are looking at the battle ground map and no matter what the polls start to show and it feels as though the race is sliding in our collection, we have to execute on the plan that we had mapped out to try to win the election. >> kacie hunt on the trail. thank you for that. more on the big story we were telling you about. involving house speaker paul ryan from a conference call. a rauk us conference call that ryan spoke with conflicted
1:19 pm
lawmakers about how to handle their presidential candidate. giving house republicans something of a mixed message on the call. he said he will not defend donald trump going forward and not campaign with donald trump. he stressed that he is not rescinding his endorsement of donald trump. he was saying he will focus his work on giving forth a possible president clinton no blank check. he had to come back on to the conference call to clarify his position that he is sticking with donald trump. one lawmaker told them that ryan got raked over the coals for distancing himself from trump. pennsylvania republican congressman charlie dent was on the call with speaker ryan and his fellow republicans. congressman, thank you for joining us. take me into what played out within your party. it's no secret that there are differing opinions in the republican party when it comes
1:20 pm
to donald trump. if you had to put a number on it, the number or the percentage of your republican colleagues who were saying you are wrong and you need to back donald trump, how big is that group? >> i don't know. there a limited number of members who spoke on the call. i happened to speak and express my concerns. my position is clear. i'm not supporting our nominee. that was the case prior to the video from friday. and i and many others who are at a different place. not many with a localized conference call like that. and the only thing that shocks me is not another revelation
1:21 pm
coming forward. >> you say you are -- we talked to you and i just want to clarify a couple of things. you are you were before the revelations from this tape. your position is that you are not supporting donald trump, but the tape didn't move you to a position where you are ready to endorse somebody else. where do you see it? >> i made clear that i'm not supporting hillary clinton under any circumstances. i believe the way she mishandled classified material disqualified her, but i'm not supporting donald trump either. i'm not sure who it should be. i was the one over the weekend who said we should probably replace the nominee.
1:22 pm
it's probably not practical. mitch daniels would be great presidents and i will have to consider one of them for writing. >> he won the most votes and the most primaries and we have this from the poll i was showing folks a few minutes ago. the question asked of voters, how should they handle donald trump and saying they should continue to support donald trump. only 9% they should stop supporting him and 14% said call on him to dropout. that's a pretty overwhelming endorsement of donald trump from the republican base. are you oust touch with the base and refusing like you to support him?
1:23 pm
there are 300 million people and this is the best we can do. that's what i hear that i would estimate close to 2/3 are not happy with either choice. i'm probably about where most of the american people were. they are not happy with the choices and i happen to be one of them. after the comments on friday. you can't defend the indefensible. the speaker was correct when he said he couldn't defend the nominee anymore. we should focus on protecting the majorities and we in congress need to be a check and balance against the next president, whoever that may be. we will work with the president if they are doing the right thing and oppose if we think they are going off in the wrong direction. >> you necessary pennsylvania, the site of one of the most
1:24 pm
hotly contested senate races. how much is donald trump going to affect the out come of the senate race in pennsylvania? >> i think it all comes down to the counties of philadelphia. he did a good endorsement. donald trump has been performing pretty well in the northern areas and the coal regions and parts of the south and central pennsylvania. hillary is performing very, very stronger in the philadelphia collar counties, close to 40% of the vote. can donald trump make up for it in the state where he is losing. hillary is winning the counties. the if high go get blown out there, for the senate, can he
1:25 pm
survive? >> if donald trump were to lose the state by five or six points, he keeps it competitive and i think pat toomey can win that. he has run a good campaign. if donald trump is beaten by more than six points, i suspect it will be difficult for the senator to win. that's really the question. how competitive will pennsylvania be. if they remain competitive within or six points, they should win. he is in a less sustainable position. >> thanks as always for the time. >> thank you, steve. >> round two now in the books. last night's second presidential debate. there are still swing voters out there. did last night's debate do anything to help them make up their minds? >> more of questions. >> i don't think he was sincere. >> up next, we will have realtime reaction from genuine swing voters in what may be the most crucial swing state in the country. the tar heel state, north
1:26 pm
carolina. the story of the election can be hold in that state. if donald trump cannot win the swing voters in that state, he can't win the election. coming up later, ari fleischer is going to join us to tell us what he thought of the debate. he said winning candidates tonight threaten to put opponents in jail. we will talk about that and more ahead.
1:27 pm
1:28 pm
they prey on our children, spending billions. entually killing one-third of them. addicting 17,000 california kids each year.ev now tobacco companies are spending millions to... defeat prop 56. because in every state that's raised tobacco taxes, smoking rates go down. so who are you going to trust? pediatricians, cancer groups and the califronia pta who all... support prop 56. or the tobacco companies trying to kill it. vote yes on 56.
1:29 pm
1:30 pm
1:31 pm
those swing voters in the swing state. they did not like what they were hearing. >> donald trump was very unfocused and i loorked at the facial expression. like he was not engaged in answering the questions. >> he didn't seem sincere. and even if he apologized again, he got right off the subject and he was spinning all over the place and didn't seem genuine. >> another reason donald trump is running behind in this race and this is one of the central challenges to the home stretch of this campaign, this group of voters we talked about.
1:32 pm
one voters with the college degree and white suburbanites. hillary clinton is leading with the voters. this group of voters never voted for a democrat in modern times. never. donald trump is losing them to hillary clinton. hillary clinton is leading by 27 points by women. this same group of voters went for mitt romney and now donald trump is losing them almost two to one. this is where he has to make inroads to have any chance of coming back. with that in mind, we go to jacob who is in boone, north carolina and he talked to female voters in the swing state.
1:33 pm
they are for clinton in a big way. did he make any progress? >> you know, i will do you one better. if it's not one of the ones he is doing particularly well for, why are you here for donald trump? >> as many americans we are very concerned about the direction of our country and we feel we are not at a cross roads, we are at the edge of a cliff and cannot
1:34 pm
take more of the same direction we are going. we are worried not just about the overseas men and women, but about going to the mall and the movies. we want someone to secure the borders. we feel that friend and foe alike of donald trump believes he will do something about immigration and about this open border where terrorists are freely coming in. >> this is a message that you have to get up and talk to 30 people right here. he calls it locker room talk. this vulgar language we heard offended a lot of women across the country. as the wife of a congressman and a woman for donald trump, what do you call it? >> it is offensive, but i am also offended by being called a deplorable person because i want national security and i don't think we can let unvetted immigrants until we find out
1:35 pm
their intentions. that's offensive too. here's the reality. we have two flawed candidates. one will be our president. as a woman, one of my top priorities is i want to know who will make us safe again. who will make us strong in the world again and who will change the direction. a 30-year insider who has been a part of the problem we are at right now, the mideast is in flame. we don't want more of the same. we want something new. >> a woman for trump, women for trump. you have the people here in the hardy's parking lot. thank you very much for talking to me. they are taking it into their own hands and driving the bus around north care lolincarolina. in boone, north carolina. appalachian state, university. thank you for that. coming up, probably the most controversial part of last night's debate, donald trump going into the past and bringing up accusers of bill clinton in
1:36 pm
the debate and bringing them up in the debate. clinton supporters said it has nothing to do with hillary clinton and trump supporters said it has everything to do with her. we will talk about hillary's choice, coming up. anytng meant to stand needs a stable foundation. a body witut proper foot support can mean pain. the dr. scholl's kiosk maps your feet and recommends our custom fit orthotic to stabilize your foundation and relieve lower-back, knee or foot pain from being on your feet. find your nearest kiosk at drscholls.com.

1:39 pm
the rest were really good. socks and shoes. ok, ricky... >> donald trump taking us on a trip to the 1990s. he held a surprise press conference and accused bill clinlt on of sexual misconduct and a likely attempt on donald trump's part to deflect from the negative attention he was receiving because of the audio tape that surfaced on friday. the question is, these are alleged indiscretions by bill clinton, but hillary is the candidate.
1:40 pm
>> hillary clint on attacked thm viciously. four of them here tonight. one at 12-year-olds was raped at 12. her client, she represented got him off and she is seen laughing on two separate a occasions, laughing at the girl who was raped. kathy shelton that young woman is here with us tonight. >> donald trump during the debate for more now i want to welcome author and journalist who spent years covering hillary clinton and wrote hillary's choice about her and political career through her time as first lady. this is a messy and complicated topic. we played the clip there from the debate about kathy shelton talking about hillary clinton as a lawyer. i want to talk about the women who accused bill clinton of sexual misconduct. the question that comes to
1:41 pm
people's mind is this is about bill clinton, what does it have to do with hillary. the case that donald trump makes is that she attacked the victims and enabled bill clinton's behavior. is there anything to the argument? >> there are millions and millions of women who faced the same excruciating choice with a husband who was unfaithful. do you stay with the marriage and work for years trying to put it back together as hillary did and try to get your husband to get treatment which bill clinton did and save the family or do you break the marriage because your heart is broken and give up your dream for changing the world which she was going to do with bill clinton and has been doing? i think we have to stop prosecuting hillary clinton for 20 years for the misbehavior of her husband.
1:42 pm
she is running for president. she made a choice and no one should judge a woman's choice. >> let me take it from this angle. there is a difference between a husband who has consensual extra marital affairs versus a husband accused of sexual misconduct. accusation they denied the complicated stories. accusations of sexual misconduct. from hillary clinton's standpoint, her marriage was many things. publicly this was a political partnership. two for the price of one was the slogan that bill clinton used. there was an argument to be made with the political partnership publicly made her blind to the accusations. the accusations of misconduct and not of a consensual affair. >> two answers. i don't think she was just doing
1:43 pm
it for a political partnership. she loved the guy and he loves her. all of their friends know it and it happened. they had great difficulties in their marriage with his weakness. she stuck with it because she loves him and because they had a child and a family. i know because i interviewed her pastor. she went through many conversations with him examining spir spiritually the right thing to do. no one suffered more than hillary clinton except maybe some of those poor women who donald trump dragged up on stage to serve his own interests. speaking about sexual misconduct, how about a man who admits when he is talking to a fellow talk show guy that he was actually a sexual predator. he could do anything he wanted with women and did it and he lied to anderson cooper saying i didn't do it.
1:44 pm
wait a minute. you said you did. if you were in a court of law would the jury believe you? >> the other issue you are talking about donald trump and the comments, paula jones is one of bill clinton's accusers and had at the press conference and tape from donald trump a few years ago where he was attacking paula jones and trying to discredit her. if donald trump is the wrong messenger and the worst possible messenger and you took hillary clinton apart and the 2016 campaign apart, is there an issue with bill clinton and how we think about sexual misconduct and taking it apart for hillary clinton and the campaign and donald trump. is there an issue where bill clinton's conduct needs to be reexamined in the light of a past generation of time. >> of course. we had many since and the 90s
1:45 pm
were still thought that women should stick with their husbands and defend him and now there is a lot of millennials who think there is a possibility of polygamy. much more sympathy as there should be for the victims. my goodness. donald trump was unfaithful to all three of his wives and he was attacking all three of them like a pitch when melania was pregnant. is that not sexual sedation in i will tell you why. hillary clinton humiliated him in the first debate and there was nothing he fears more than humiliation. imagine being beaten by a woman. what does he do? he throws these women in hillary
1:46 pm
clinton's face and degrades them and himself and our political system. >> i don't think at the start of this campaign anybody thought we would be talking about it it in october 2016, but here we are. it felt like a must watch event with hot mike comments. he knew a lot of people would watch and h many? we knew there was a record for the first one. did the second break the record for the first debate? the most important number of the day. we will answer that next. one of millions orders on this company's servers. onaccessible by thousands of suppliers andmploye global. but with cyber threats on the rise, mary's data could under attack. with the help of at&t, and security that senses and mitigates cyber threats, their critical data is safer than ever. giving them the agility to be open & secure.

1:50 pm
1:51 pm
donald trump actually does have a chance to win if it comes down to discussions of donald trump's character instead of hillary clinton's character, he will lose. it's a good debate after yesterday. >> we talked about how donald trump brought up bill clinton and the scandals and the controversy of the 90s and donald trump has his own issues when it comes to the treatment of women. it was made clear and when you ran that campaign at the end of
1:52 pm
2000 and it's a tricky subject to deal with, how did that play 16 years later? did the average person say that was ancient history and hillary clinton is the candidate and not bill clinton? >> i look at this and this is not what we want to talk about. i find donald trump to be personally offensive and hillary clinton is professionally offensive. that's the deal. let me go backs to the tweet. i think it's important. and someone is going to wane and it's important to come together. it's wrong for them to say i will do this to my opponent if i win. it's just as bad. it's the flip side of what donald trump is doing except
1:53 pm
trump is doing it as a candidate. you shouldn't delegitimize your opponent. don't threaten that your opponent should go to jail whether it's george bush or hillary clinton. >> paul ryan and the conference calls with the member of congress. he is not going to defend and trump fired back with the tweet directed at paul ryan saying stop fighting with me and start focusing on your job. paul ryan is -- what do you think of the post posture he is taking? >> he is trying to walk the fine line and he said he is still endorsing donald trump. that's getting bothered by the latest outrageous thing that trump has said. to many of the candidates running in the swing states, they are not saying the things that donald trump is saying.
1:54 pm
the press is trying to attach those things to the candidates. that's what paul ryan was doing. he wants trump to win, but he's not trump so he is going to put distance between himself and trump so he doesn't have to deal with the questions. it's just another example of how the republican party is split. you afraid there will be more revelations with the tape? >> there probably will be, but i know donald trump is offensive. who didn't know that? it shows in graphic detail how offensive he is. donald trump is personally offensive. the things he does and says. that was an example. hillary clinton is professionally offensive. she is reckless and dishonest. the red line in syria. she said she wasn't there. she want supported barack obama walking away from the red line.
1:55 pm
