when i got asked the question by anderson cooper that listen, there's a lot of things i said and i did that i'm not proud of but i ask for forgiveness and i would like to get to -- >> but the problem with that strategy is that he isn't sorry, he isn't chase and he isn't humbled by any of these revelations and i was told as recently before i got here because i don't get here looking like this. >> you and me both. >> his most senior advisors are most uncomfortable as about what he says about paul ryan as about what he says on the tape. >> and verified by two aids saying they're going to turn bill clinton into bill cosby, they have done it to suppress

the clint vote, just suppress all vote. >> who wants to vote now. >> wouldn't you just let wikileaks do it for you and you disappear? this aide said if trump could just get out of his way, there's actually enough -- >> these have been the luckiest few days for hillary clinton, but it's being washed away by worse news for trump. >> at the danger of asking the too obvious is the danger that this narrative matches the "access hollywood" tape? that's the guy talking? >> sure, but brian, i think at this point it's all white noise, okay, he's bad with women, she's a private elitist and secretive,

two, on the stump in florida this afternoon the gop nominee continued his attacks on donald trump and said trump invaded hillary clinton's space on debate stage. >> already the republican nominee has a massive, massive disadvantage and especially when you have the leaders, not putting their weight behind the people. wouldn't you think that paul ryan would call and say, good going. wouldn't you say good going, let's beat this crook, let's beat this crook, we've got to stop it. there's a whole deal going on and we've got to figure it out. i always figure things out but there's a whole sinister deal going on. i'm standing at my podium by my

chair, she walks across the room, standing in front of me right next to me and the next day i said what did the paper say? they said, he invaded her space, believe me the last spade that i want to invade is her space, believe me. i don't want to invade her space. >> also today donald trump again seemed to call for the suspension of habeas corpus when it comes to his opponent. here is the moment from trump today and how his campaign manager reacted in an interview shortly there after. >> she gets the subpoena. she gets the subpoena and after, not before, that would be bad, but after getting the subpoena to give over our e-mails and lots of other things, she deleted the e-mails. she has to go to jail. >> he's talking about going around the democratic process. i mean, talking about jailing

your political opponent is -- >> no, he's not. you're taking it literally and your just stuck on this one thing. >> he's not talking about she has to stand and be judged. he's saying she has to go to jail. >> and? in other words you're saying and here is how you get to jail? this is the process? that's completely ridiculous. >> so nicole and mark are part of the republican party that is officially in exile right now. i asked the question earlier, when is toxicity reached in this campaign? >> oh, i think we're there. in the last segment i think i was saying it's become white noise right now, i don't think these revelations are a big surprise to people. each has completely drawn their lines and i think any unpersuadable people are just not going to vote.

i don't think a lot is going to change in the next few weeks. >> so you think it's going to lock in place? >> i think it's going to lock in place. >> where do you think ten points get her, arizona, georgia and utah? >> a ten-point race. >> i don't know about ten. >> well, that's where it was before it got this toxic. >> anywhere before three, four, five and ten. >> it's more than one. >> more clients than i do, anywhere between ten. since then, more women have come forward. >> just since we've been sitting here. >> more than i can assemble and name. it's one of the awful affinity groups to be a member of in life and that is any kind of abuse, but they often find comfort in h numbers and by that nature i think we're going to hear more. >> i think we can assume that and we always say that you're innocent -- and parents of sons

too, any person who is accused of something, i think this is the most horrific thing you can be accused of so he's innocent of any sort of crime until proven guilty by a court of law, but the described behavior before these women came out is the nail in the coffin in the court of public opinion. he described grabbing these women by the p-word. >> there's no profit for them to do this. >> they're members of public life. >> and they're also aware of how he treats his adversaries and now his adversaries are -- some people don't come out because they don't want to go to war, he goes to war as a suicide bomber and he takes down whoever goes up against him.

>> mark, how is a guy like paul ryan holding it together? serious question. he is a proud product of gainsville, wisconsin and is taking incoming fire every day? >> i think he is a true servant of democracy, this is a job he did not seek, but he was talked into it because he thought it was the best thing truly to do -- >> trying to crunch numbers and make budgets. >> is but we are seeing right now, and he's doing the best he can -- the job he has is to try to keep his coalition of house members a majority and so that's his job and he's expressed opinion and advice is to do what it -- to keep the house. >> do you think he should

rescind his endorsement? he said he should but -- portman took the step, mccain took the step -- >> to see what's happened the last five days we elected officials and candidates, you know, they put elvis presley to the twist, you know, they're doing the elvis presley twist. >> what's the watch on the road? >> endorsing what's going to happen, there's not a lot of moral clarity here. >> wow. this is why i said two nights ago david gergen says he senses a national kind of malaise, he feels like people didn't rest overnight because where are upset in the past of our discourse and the shape our discourse is in. nicole and mark, thank you for coming on.

terrific accounting of the city of detroit is out now in paper back. welcome to you. >> thank you, brian. >> you and i go back to the clinton first term and when people say those things, when people talk about the clinton women, this is a very, very broad question, how do you react? asked and answered, already litigated or your right to ask those questions, make those charges. >> i have to say at one point i had to turn the tv off. i was suffering from ptsd from the late 1990s, whatever the clinton's flaws are their opponent's flaws seem to be greater and so obsessed and that's playing out right now on the hyper reality show where the candidate is surrounded only by

this small group of people who have been out to get the clintons for 20 years. >> how much of this did ken star exhaust? >> well, that's another interesting aspect to this. kent star was the -- going after clinton. what he found in terms of his sexual life was consensual sex with young woman who was young, disgusting on clinton's part but it was consensual and she was of age, he had juanita broaddrick, and jones, but didn't use any of those devices and if kent star was not going to do it nobody could do it now. >> the woman the trump campaign was putting out tonight without clinton, it's going to get worse if we believe mr. bannon and more specifically they're going

to go after this hillary clinton kind of persecution, prosecution of the women. can you speak on that broadly from your recollection and your reporting? >> well, i can speak on it in two levels, one is that yes, hillary clinton was always bill clinton's defense attorney. they came up together. they rose together. they had this similar -- simbiotic relationship. i think this backfires when they attack hillary, many women might understand why a wife might do that so every time there's been an attack on bill's personal activities, it is served to hillary's benefit, and so i don't think this can work but it's just like they're last gasp. >> let's talk about the negativity in the air, david gergen's theory that the country is if not somewhat, a lot depressed.

>> i agree, i was thinking about the word "disruption," you talk about business disruption or economic disruption and it can be good or bad and i think this country is completely disrupted politically right now, there's a segment that supports donald trump that wakes up angry every day and thinking that the world is falling apart because they're not being listened to and then there's a broader majority of people who just seem to be anxious, disruptive anxiety of constant barrage of unpreaddictability. the other thing is unpacking. >> maybe we should start unpacking. >> well you're the same as in h miss goodwin, so unpack for me

how this ever gets better? >> i'm not sure it will right away. david brooks had an interesting column yesterday or today, but he said felt that trump might just walk away and you know in one sense america is a land that immediately forgets losers, you know, whether it's carry or gore or romney, they're sort of forgotten the next day, if trump loses who spends his whole life sort of living by the pathology of win at all costs, i don't know. and i think if mrs. clinton wins and becomes president ma'am clinton there's going to be the hostility still for her and hard for her to get things done in the first term. one of the paradox with her is she is very good at working with people and the republican
