aggression. donald trump insisted those recently lewd comments about women were just words. locker room talk, as he described it. the gop claimed over and over he never acted on any of the alaskas lialask actions like kissing or groping without consent and several women coming forward saying he's lying, allegations going back decades. >> it was a real shock when all of the sudden, his hands were all over me. >> embraced me and gave me a kiss on the lips and i remember being shocked. >> nbc news is not independently confirming these accusations and trump is denying all allegations and lashing out on twitter last hour. a source inside the campaign telling us they're now preparing, quote, big lawsuits against the outlets publishing what they call lies. let's get right to nbc's hallie jackson covering the trump campaign for us. what do we know?

introduced herself to the businessman at trump tower. instead of a handshake, he kissed her. there's natasha stoinof visiting mar-a-lago for an interview with the trumps. a pregnant melania upstairs. down stairs, donald trump inviting her into a room. she said, quote, i turned around and within seconds, he was pushing me against the wall and forcing his tongue down my throat. nbc news has not independently verified these allegations against trump. a lot of women going public after sunday night's debate when trump was pressed about his lewd comments during a 2005 "access hollywood" taping show owned by nbcuniversal. >> for the record, are you saying what you said on the bus, you did not kiss women without consent? >> i have great respect for women. nobody has more respect for women than i do. >> have you done those things? >> and i will tell you, no i have not. >> vigorously denying the new

accusations. in a statement, nbc news, a trump advisor says for "the new york times" to launch a completely false character assassination on a topic like this is dangerous. to reach back decades in an attempt to smear mr. trump, trivializes sexual assault and sets a new low for where the media is willing to go in its efforts to determine this election. regarding the "people" magazine accusation, a trump spokesperson said this never happened. there is not merit or voracity to this fictional story. why was this not reported at the time? allegations building on others. in an exclusive interview with nbc news, temple taggart, miss utah, recalling meeting him at the time he owned. >> he turned to me, embraced me and gave me a kiss on the lips. i remember being shocked. >> reporter: taggart said she didn't consider it assault.

just awkward. >> how are you? >> reporter: she was upset when she heard the vulgar audio of trump. >> i don't want to get emotional but yeah, it's really hard because you think of sending your little daughter out there. sorry, with men like that, that think like that. >> reporter: despite photos of trump and taggart together, trump tells nbc said, i don't know anything about her or who she is. adding, i emphatically deny this ridiculous claim. the trump campaign is demanding a retraction of "the new york times" story pointing to the publication a few weeks before election day calling it politically motivated. all of it as this morning, trump issues a series of tweets hitting back not just the "times" piece but the "people" magazine article as well. >> thank you. one other part of this story involves the miss teen usa pageant. that's an organization that was actually owned by donald trump from 1996 until 2015.

buzzfeed reporting four women in the 1997 pageant said trump came into the dressing room while they were changing? tasha dickson, a contestant said this wednesday. all right, let me read to you what she said. we don't have that sound bite here. tasha dixen said, he just came strolling in. no second to put a robe on or any clothing or anything. some girls were topless. other girls were naked. to the owner, come waltzing in when naked in a physically vulnerable position and then to have the pressure of the people that work for him telling us to go fawn all over him. that's from tasha dickson. trump talked about going back stage while owning and running adult beauty pageants in an interview on the howard stern show from 2005. this is just three months after

hillary clinton maintaining a low public profile today. fund raising in the west coast but a few moments ago, word that wikileaks has dropped another trove of these hacked e-mails. kristen welker in las vegas this morning. i know we just got these things in a few moments ago. have we had an opportunity to sift through any of them? >> reporter: we're sifting through them right now, craig. no headlines yet. i will tell you, this is the sixth document relating to these i mails fr e e-mails. yesterday's document dump for one e-mail in particular. this e-mail was written back in 2011 by jennifer palmieri.

current communications director for secretary clinton but worked for a group called american progress. she was communicating with a colleague about a news article that had been written about catholics and then sent this e-mail writes, their rich friends wouldn't understand if they became evangelicals. that is a comment getting a lot of criticism, particularly from the trump campaign. i had the opportunity to speak to jen palmieri about it on secretary clinton's campaign saying she doesn't recognize that e-mail. she pointed the finger at the russians. and nbc news has not independently authenticated these e-mails but look at what jen palmieri had to say. >> i'm a catholic. i don't recognize that e-mail that we saw, and this whole effort is led by the russians. the russians orchestrated this hack. >> reporter: now intelligence

officials also say they believe the russians are behind these hacks. john podesta also weighing in, craig, very strong terms today. he sent out this statement that said this level of meddling by a foreign power can only be aimed at boosting donald trump and should send chills down the spine of all americans. this race continues to get increasingly bitter. secretary clinton, as you've been reporting all hour long has opened up a sizable lead in the polls. today, she will be off the campaign trail fund raising. of course, these daily document dumps only complicate her campaign and raise thorny issues almost on a daily basis. that's one of the challenges into the final stretch and point out while she's off the trail today, top democratic surrogates including the president, vice president, and first lady will be campaigning for her, craig? >> kristen welker from the strip, it would seem there in las vegas. good to see you. thank you. who's voted so far? a look at our exclusive new nbc

it's a move that stunned donald trump staffers in virginia. pulling out of the commonwealth. a source telling nbc news that trump is now essentially running a four-state campaign focusing on the battlegrounds of virginia, north carolina, ohio. they pull out of virginia. how do they then get to 270? >> why they're stepping out of virginia because this is kind of amazing if you think it. that was the key swing state in 2012 and 2008. it was a republican state before

then. i mean, check that out. hillary clinton a 13 point lead there. part of that is having someone from virginia. tim kaine, it's also those suburbs. those northern virginia suburbs of washington, dc. donald trump is just getting blown out there. so look, if virginia is off the board near the trump campaign. when they say four state strategy now. north carolina. they need to hold the state that mitt romney won in 12020-2012 a absolutely have to have florida. hillary clinton is probably a couple points ahead in florida but would have to get florida. they would have to get ohio and ohio is a state where trump was leading in september. he's now fallen behind. the fourth state though, this is where it really gets shaky if you're the trump campaign. pennsylvania. they say that's the fourth one and you could see if they got pennsylvania, that would flip it. he'd be over 270. he'd be there. but take a look inside the numbers in pennsylvania. brand new poll out today. hillary clinton leading by 9

points. the reason for it, we said, it's the suburbs of washington, dc. in pennsylvania, the suburbs of philadelphia. they are so overwhelmingly for clinton and against trump. tough to see him winning that state. >> a number have already started early voting going on in a number of these states. i know we've got exclusive new reporting on that. what can you tell us? >> look at this. it's kind of amazing. we haven't even had the third presidential debate yet. half a million people in this country have voted already. look at some of these key battleground state that's taking place. iowa, obviously, virginia, wisconsin. they're in the books now. people have done them. we can show you. i'll quickly go through this and not sure it will make much sense to people, but blue. like in iowa, that jumps out. virginia, wisconsin. more democratic ballots. democratic voters who are voting early. if you went back to 2012, you see the lines were a little bit closer in 2012. so you are seeing evidence in a lot of these states that more democrats right now are voting

early. >> can we go back to 2016 for a quick second? the assumption here, not to oversimplify but the assumption would be in wisconsin. 55% of those who have cast early ballots are democrats. so is the assumption is that clinton is up by 20 points? >> there's some advantage in there and like i said, we haven't figured out. i get a little bit nervous in two absolute terms because you don't know who they're voting for and look at this advantage they're getting. how many of these people would have just voted on election day otherwise? so is this something democrats? we know the clinton campaign, much more organized at the ground level than the trump campaign is, obviously. that probably accounts for some of this but is this an advantage they otherwise wouldn't have? that's the key question. >> taking us through the numbers on the map. always good to have you. thank you for the insight. the trump campaign pushing back forcefully this morning on those new allegations from four women who claim trump either touched or kissed them inappropriately years ago. i talked to trump advisor,

senior advisor boris just a few moi moments ago. >> he said vehemently did not commit any of the acts. >> all of these women are making it up? >> listen, these stories, and i'm not going to go through each one of them but until proof, they shouldn't be out there in the news. >> msnbc's chief legal correspondent ari melber is here. we should point out for the purposes of this conversation we have not confirmed, nbc has not independently confirmed any of these allegations. trump denying all of these allegations. let's put the political ramifications aside. legally, what is he looking at here potentially? >> what he's facing now that's different than before is people accusing him of what, in several states, would amount to at least some kind of misdemeanor. that's a bad thing but we've analyzed this here in the legal unit this morning. most of the statute of limitations have run. that means the deadline is over and he's not facing any potential criminal charge here.

something that many pointed out including lisa bloom earlier on our air, it's not uncommon to see women in this situation delay before speaking out or ever seeking to press charges. that doesn't speak to the voracity of the underlying claims. >> i do want to read this statement from the trump campaign on t"the new york time" reporting. this entire article is fiction and for "the new york times" to launch a coordinated character assassination is dangerous. to reach back decades in an attempt to smear mr. trump trivializes sexual assault and sets a new low to determine this election. lawyers threatening to sue "the new york times." if they were to sue the "times" and one of the other publications, a news network, would trump then not have to be deposed in the case? >> he would be deposed, certainly, if this case went forward and the voracity of the

claims would be pursued. in civil court, even though they can't be pursued for the reasons i explained. this criminal court, it would be dangerous for donald trump to begin this type of litigation for himself, just because it would reach so much into his life and history even if he feels he would be vindicated. a couple of other points here, craig, it's a "new york times" case that establishes the high bar of why any public figure likely to lose this case because he would have to prove not only they were false as he claims and we don't know the answer to that but "the new york times" knew they were false or some secret effort within this publication and others, "people" magazine publishing this to hurt him above and beyond whether the claims can be adjudicated. the other point in fairness of donald trump, it is not the case from historical precedent that a delay in charges means they are false. this allegation or insinuation that women delayed means they're making it up.

that is not necessarily borne out. keep in mind, in the middle of a heated campaign, many swirling agendas. it is certainly fair for the trump campaign to argue and for us to keep in mind that the closing weeks of the campaign, all kinds of charges can be about and we should take care to deal with them independently. as reporters and hopefully as citizens, we should bear in mind there are allegations and also denials. there are quite frankly a lack of video and physical evidence for most of the underlying allegations and the other big difference is to point out you have newly disclosed audio evidence or testimonial evidence of mr. trump seeming to describe conduct that seems to match what some of the women are alleging. i would say that is the biggest editorial or journalistic problem is people weigh these but again, as you said up top, to be responsible, we haven't confirmed all these allegations at this point, craig. >> thank you.

condemn is a strong word. you're familiar with "christian today." they put this in an editorial today calling for evangelicals to drop trump. they said the latest revelations from trump's past caused many evangelical leaders to reconsider. the revelations of his vile and crude boasting about sexual conquest, indeed, sexual assault, might have been shocking but they should have surprised no one. that coupled with what we're now hearing over the last 24, 36 hours from various women. what do you hear from women evangelicals? >> well, there's no doubt. the head of the iowa gop women, melissa just withdrew her support and stepping down from her position saying she can no longer support trump. if she can't trump support, she'll step down from the position. christians, people of faith, women in particular, they're all reassessing, reconsidering. and that's why we're saying,

and hillary clinton represented as a lawyer the defendant in the case and advised not to go there. chris christie, ben carson, newt gingrich advised him not to do certain things, and so there's a little bit of a split in the circle with donald trump always taking his own counsel. >> is there a potential benefit here maybe we're missing? i mean, is there benefit in trump taking on the establishment? paul ryan? john mccain, the list goes on. is there some sort of upside that maybe i'm missing? >> what you're seeing is the breitbart ring of the party. if you win, you win the white house. what is it you get? and we don't seem to know the answer to that question. they don't seem to have an underlying governing principle. conservatives do. but not a leader. they don't seem to have money or a message and then you have the establishment there, the status

quo and they definitely have leadership. they definitely have money but it's going, that's what people have been ejecting. so you have these three wings of the party. donald trump will lose on election day. and the fight will be over. which faction is going to dominate? i do think the breitbart wing. they're media savvy. they donknow how to raise money. they'll blame for not fighting with donald trump, for peeling off when he was trying to defeat hillary clinton. and we'll just have a big old brawl about it. >> word today that the trump campaign essentially pulled out of the state in which you live, virginia, no more television in the commonwealth. they're slashing staff there as well. it was thought to be a legitimate battleground state. what's the strategy here? why pull out of virginia? >> they're running out of resources and out of battleground states to fight in. craig, on election night, you need to look to florida. if he loses florida, it's over.

north carolina, if he loses that, it's over. pennsylvania, he could lose and will likely lose. if he then loses ohio, it's over. ed mcmullen at 22% in utah and hillary clinton and donald trump at a tie in utah. if he loses utah, it's hard to make it up. you could look at the map in many different ways and as steve kornacki did, it's very, very difficult to get donald trump to enough electors to secure the presidency. they're focused. they have one strategy left. they can't expand the base so go scorched earth and press the vote for hillary clinton but he's an imperfect messenger for that. >> thank you, sir. united states firing back against attacks from yemeni rebels. more threats on the horizon. we're live at the pentagon next. it's about moving forward not back. it's looking up not down. it's feeling up thinking up

on u.s. navy ships from a rebel controlled area of yemen. nbc's hanz nichols. why are u.s. ships off yemen being attacked, hanz? >> the theory is, just a theory, no one confirmed that independently here at the pentagon but because the united states is supporting saudi arabia and saudi arabia is running a vicious and some would say contrary to human rights campaign against the rebels. they're there lashing. remember the u.s. does supply some air fueling, some support to the saudi mission. what they're saying is they're defending the territory waters when u.s. officials say those navy ships are in international waters starting 12 miles off the coast. >> i want to ask you about white house press secretary josh ernest's comments yesterday that the united states will deliver a, quote, proportional response to alleged russian hacking of u.s.-based computer systems. what might that proportional

response look like? >> usually when you hear proportional, that means they're still calibrating their response and figure out what exactly they'll do and in the past with cyber attacks, mainly with the chinese companies, they used the naming and shaming as sufficient sort of punishment and you see modification of behavior. we'll see whether or not the behavior of the russians is modified by this naming and shaming. but there's a difference with chinese companies in 2010 and what we have right now which is loosely aligned hack groups and to inflict damages but the question is do you take damage, action against the russian state or just these groups? >> at the pentagon this morning, hanz, thank you, sir. coming up, the man whose music marked and made history. that man has a new title.
