are. you can only keep one thing in your head at a time, i guess. >> jeffrey dahmer may have been brief, but his effect on the city will last for some time to come. as one spectator put it, it may be gruesome, but it's history. trump to obama, watch out. let's play "hardball." good evening. i'm chris matthews. tonight, donald trump facing multiple public allegations of sexual misconduct, some of which go back decades. in response, trump is saying his accusers along with his political rivals and the media are part of a conspiracy against him and his supporters. today, two more women have come forward with accounts of trump's sexual advances in a press conference with gloria allred today, former apprentice contestant summer zervos said
4:01 am
trump in 2007 accosted her in his hotel room during what was supposed to be a meeting for a poen potential job opportunity. >> he put me in an embrace and i tried to push him away. i said, come on, man, get real. he repeated my words back to me, get real. as he began thrusting his genitals. he tried kissing me again with his hands still on my chest, and i said you're tripping right now, attempting to make it clear i was not interested. >> donald trump made a statement denying the accusations. he said i never met her in a hotel room or greeted her inappropriately. beyond that, the media is now creating a theater of absurdity that threatens to tear our democratic system apart. when gloria allred is given the same weighting as the president of the united states and
4:02 am
unfounded accusations are treelted as fact with reporters throwing due diligence and fact finding to the side, it's evident we're truly living in a broken system. in another alleged system, former model kristen anderson said trump touched her inappropriately in a club in new york in the early '90s. >> this is the vivid part for me. so the person on my right who unbeknownst to me at that time was donald trump, put their hand up my skirt. and as i pushed the hand away and got up and turned around and i see these eyebrows, very distinct eyebrows of donald trump. >> nbc has not independently confirmed any of the women's accounts, and at his rally earlier today, trump denied all allegations of sexual misconduct. >> the stories are total
4:03 am
fiction. they're 100% made up. they never happened. they never would happen. these are lies being pushed by the media and the clinton campaign to try and keep their grip on our country. they are all false. they're totally invented. fiction. all 100% totally and completely fabricated. one came out recently, where i was sitting alone in some club. i really don't sit alone that much, honestly, i don't think i sit alone. i was sitting alone by myself like this, and then i went, wow. >> trump also issued a warning to president obama saying that women could come forward and accuse him of the same thing. >> obama is an incompetent. he's an incompetent president. he doesn't know what he's doing.
4:04 am
he's out campaigning all day long. he's talking about me like he knows me. i don't know him. he doesn't know me. and why doesn't some woman maybe come up and say what they say falsely about me? they could say about him. they could say it about anybody. they could say it about anybody. i'll tell you what, he better be careful because they could say it about anybody. anybody at all. >> i'm joined now by hugh hewitt and michelle bernard. let's start with you, hugh. let's just talk politics here. you know, these accounts have not been verified by nbc news. we have to be clear about that. trump has denied them in their entirety. where we do go from there? >> john reed is a legendary law
4:05 am
professor. scott how, my friend who teached at chapman, they teach you how to categorize and apply one rule. things like excited outbursts, admissions against interest. summer's account was very detailed. it would lend itself to quick discrediting. >> talking about going for a job with trump in a hotel room. >> beverly hills hotel. >> you know they're separate bungalows. >> easily proved. we'll find out about that one. >> would we check who was booked? >> yes. trump came up today, and mike pence said in a very tough interview with matt this morning that there could be evidence -- >> matt lauer. >> matt lauer. they brought forward a witness to the first-class plane ride from many years ago but he can't remember which year, and he says he has a good memory, but he can't remember the name. >> how would you rebut something
4:06 am
in an airplane if somebody did what this woman accused him of doing, grabbing under her dress. how would you be in a situation where you would see that? you would have to be in the same row. you're not a giraffe. you have to be in the same row. >> you would have to be peering. exactly. >> and watching donald trump's hand as closely as a person who is feeling it. the person feeling it would be more in touch, literally, with what trump was up to. >> i don't see them being able -- >> but they put this out as evident. >> and nothing else. we hear a promise of something that is coming and towards the end of the day, mike pence said there's nothing else. >> i think the evident is going to end up being the accounts of the two people. who else would have the evidence? unless there's contemporaneous assertions of the person who said they were accosted that way. if they told a bunch of people
4:07 am
like relatives. >> one of the rules of evidence is did you tell someone. i never believed anita hill because they had no contemporaneous accounts. both of the "new york times" women had a contemporaneous allegation. >> you said other than janet napolitano. >> she was one of the ones advising ms. hill at the time. >> at the time she accused clarence thomas of doing that. >> i believe she was on record as saying anita hill was saying the truth. i'm not quite sure. i will say this. the fact that we're talking about it means donald trump is losing tonight. a general denial will not work, specific denials, even if persuasive are too many to turn back. he has to change the narrative or he'll lose. >> gloria allred is a smart lawyer. anything in the law business, a lot of people just don't like lawyers, but she has the witness prepared. that witness, as you said, had a very detailed account. she was very nervous, but she was laying it out there,
4:08 am
herself. >> yes. >> that was imprsive. >> i'll tell you, i w doing a lot of reading today, trying to understand what is the psychology that we have as a country where we seem to elevate the needs of men or people who have been accused of sexual misconduct above the needs of women who have said that this person has perpetrated a crime on me. one of the things that -- >> still are innocent until proven guilty under the law. >> absolutely, but you see, we live in a sort of rape culture and victim culture and a culture that doesn't believe women when they say that they have been sexually -- >> you think people don't believe this account? >> i believe of all the women i have been watching -- >> you don't believe these women are believed right now? >> i believe there are a lot of people who don't believe them. i believe there are people who say that it didn't happen or if it did happen, it was no big deal. there are women -- >> false allegations abound.
4:09 am
there were false allegations at college earlier this year. we have to be careful with them. as a political matter, if you're defending false or true, you're losing. you're losing badly. >> i understand what you're saying, but as a woman, it's so unbelievably irritating to have to hear about the fact that it could be false. it could be false. we know that. >> it's like these police cases. i always say to people, each case is different. a little different from every one else or else we wouldn't need a court. >> donald trump is innocent until proven guilty, but that also means the victim or alleged victim is to be believed until proven. >> trump lashed out at his accusers and the media saying they're part of a conspiracy to destroy him. >> the establishment and their media enablers wield control over this nation through means that are very well known.
4:10 am
anyone who challenges their control is deemed a sest, a racist, a zine aphob xenophobe deformed. i knew these attacks would come, i knew this day would arrive. only a question of when. this is a conspiracy against you, the american people, and we cannot let this happen or continue. >> well, in his speech today, president obama today mocked trump for his latest conspiracy theory. let's watch that. >> apparently in a speech yesterday, he started talking about global elites, that there was a conspiracy of global elites. this is a guy who spent all his time hanging around, trying to convince everybody he was a global elite. talking about how great his buildings are, how luxurious and how rich he is and flying around every, and all he had time for was celebrities.
4:11 am
and now suddenly he's acting like he's a populist out there. man, i'm going to fight for working people. come on, man. >> so what do you make of this wild accusation, seemed like an accusation, be careful, mr. president, because they could come for you. is that a way of just telling his people, which i would understand, this is all a charade, so i can play this, or is it trying to spur some accusations. >> that's what i believe. i honestly believe when you have somebody running for president and they make this kind of statement, be careful. it could happen to anyone. and he says it over and over and over again. i believe that he is sort of saying to some nut case out there or maybe or maybe not, please accuse president obama, if you had any troubles with president obama or you think you had problems with president obama if he has ever engaged in any sort of sexual misconduct with you -- >> that would be unlikely. >> it would be highly unlikely because quite frankly, given
4:12 am
everything the president went through to be elected in 2008, if something like that happened, i think we would have heard it. >> i want to thank the president for helping my party and rallying my base. >> i want to help you. i don't care about the parties but what's really sad about this election, if it's going to be based on this, okay, it's based on this. hillary clinton might as well sit in a rocker share. >> that's what she's done. >> there is a problem here, the sentiment that trump tapped into, and whether he believed it or not, the concerns about trade and lost working jobs, concerns about the lack of reasonable control of immigration that doesn't seem to be going on, and wars that we really didn't benefit in in terms of security. they're going to be betrayed by this because what will happen is people are not going to vote on those issues. they're going to vote on the personal fitness of the candidate. we should have had a vote like
4:13 am
they did on brexit in england. have a vote on issues. >> they're going to vote down ticket on obamacare because premiums have doubled. they're going to vote on that, which is their lunch box issue. who cares about me. >> who is going to win on the basis of that? >> paul ryan is going to win, pat toomey, kelly ayotte. >> you're just saying all the republicans are going to win. >> they are. >> all republicans are going to win? >> not all, not mark kirk. >> i'm gladou're excited to talk about congress tonight, but we have to focus on the presidency. we're the great -- >> who isn't? >> hugh wants to talk about members of congress who are going to win their election. >> he's salvaging, riding the salvage boat. >> i am going to -- >> trying to save -- >> i'm going back to the presidency. if donald trump truly believed that this was coming, and he's been waiting for it, and he was going to be prepared, he would have had evidence on his side,
4:14 am
waiting for the day that these acivaticusations were going to forward. i don't by any stretch of the imagination believe he thought this day was going to come. from a woman's perspective, if you are an abuser, and i said if to be nice, but if you are an abuser, someone who engaged in predatory sexual behavior, you never think you're going to get caught. the reason you don't think you're going to get caught is because we live in a culture where women are not believed when they make these allegations. >> that's an argument. thank you. coming up, first, it was michelle obama. now president obama is out there on the take down of donald trump. for the president and first lady, this fight is personal and they're hoping to use their popularity with voters to defeat trump and help hillary clinton over the finish line. this is "hardball," the place for politics. gary, gary, gary... i am proud of you, my man. making simple, smart cash back choices... with quicksilver from capital one. you're earning unlimited 1.5% cash back

this week, hillary clinton has lowered her profile, letting donald trump bask in the spotlight, if you will. since last week's debate, the campaign has taken a particularly acrimonious tone, don't you think? two people have broken through the noise to deliver a powerful message. they are two of hillary clinton's most powerful surrogates, bahram and michelle oba obama. the first lady delivered an emotional and searing takedown of trump for his recent comments. here's a bit of it. >> it has shaken me to my core in a way that i couldn't have predicted.

the belief that you can do anything you want to a woman. it is cruel. it's frightening. and the truth is, it hurts. >> her powerful rebuke quickly went viral and the "washington post" described this as a moment in when the country has never seen michelle obama like this. >> thursday brought out something more personal, more passionate, more urgent. on the heels of his wife's speech, president obama in his own way took on the republican nominee. >> i notice her opponent, he seems to be in the middle of the game making excuses all the time for why he might be losing. and it's always interesting to me to see folks who talk tough, but then don't act tough.
4:20 am
because if you're tough, you don't make excuses. >> it's amazing. everybody in both political parties, whatever you think of it, drop their gs when they're speaking to us, like we need help with the language. for barack and michelle obama, this has become more than politics, it's become personal. i'm joined by colleen mccain nelson, and fred hyde. colleen, let me ask you about this. why is it personal for michelle obama? can you get into her head and heart. >> she talked about this shook her to her core. she speaks as a mom, and it's resonant in a way that it's not when hillary clinton talks about being a mom and being a grandmother. but i think it's also personal because of the birther issue. i mean, president obama and michelle obama took that very personally. >> being called an illegal alien when you're in the white house. >> exactly. that was very personal for them. you have seen kind of a new

4:26 am
enjoying listening to them and getting to feel them along with him. they enjoyed being on what they judged to be, of course, the right side. i got it then. i get it now. a lot of getting dylan comes from when you grew up. i grew up on campus when all of this happened, when the anti-war movement led an edge to life. i was in africa in the peace corps when an english girl brought it back from her. bill clinton is another men of my generation who speaks of our musics and politics. this is clinton, if you look back on the '60s, and on balance, you think there was more good than harm, you are probably a democrat. if your think there was more harm than good, you're probably a republican. that's clinton. i couldn't agree more, and you probably agree too. i was there when bob dylan was awarded the kennedy honors, but when it was time for dylan to be recognized and all the stiffs in the expensive seats sat there
