day of rallies in important battleground states. we're following all of them. donald trump is on his way to phoenix, arizona after holding a rally earlier in golden, colorado. a live look at daytona beach, florida. in just a few minutes hillary clinton is expected to speak at a rally there and later attend a co concert in miami with singer jennifer lopez. and the fbi's james comey calling on more investigations on hillary clinton's e-mails. coming out strong, congressional black caucus moments ago started their news conference saying, more information. what are you hearing from those at this rally? >> reporter: well, the clinton campaign first of all believes that the best strategy to deal with this is to ramp up the pressure on fbi director james
1:02 pm
comey to release more information. so you're seeing democrats, as you just mentioned, cdc and other groups come forward and echo that. the clinton campaigns thinks the murkiness is most damaging's in terms of her supporter, they don't seed rattled by this. in fact, the clinton campaigns thinks this will energize democrats to go to the polls in bigger numbers. the question and unknown is how will undecided voters respond to this? of course, that's critical in a battleground state like florida. i had a conversation with some of her top officials onboard her campaign, coming over here to florida on the plane. one top aide tells me secretary clinton handled the news like a champ yesterday. that's a direct quote. saying that she is in a good frame of mind and ready to face this head-on. this is not something she is shying away from. you might hear her reference it throughout the day, talk about it, particularly the way in which donald trump has been responding to this and spinning
1:03 pm
up essentially the political aspect of this. that's sort of the broader strategy. this is a state in which early voting is already under way. secretary clinton has made a number of stops here, and getting out the vote early is critical to their strategy. the obama president, or president obama did it during his re-election campaign back in 2012 and the clinton campaign really models their get out the vote efforts after that. they say in is key to winning the white house. in terms of florida, again, polls very tight here, and secretary clinton doesn't necessarily need to win florida in order to win the white house, but donald trump does. so she wants to cut him off in this critical battleground state, richard. >> kristen, you've been following the clinton campaign for the past year more or less here and seen the different beats along the way. friday the news came out about director comey's letter to leaders in congress. it took several hours for secretary clinton to then come to the microphones, very
1:04 pm
deliberate, very much prepared. typical of the campaign as you've been saying in the past. what's the sense you're getting now from staffers as well as those behind you about what they think will be happening in the coming days? less worried, or they believe in several days this may be forgotten? >> reporter: there's undoubtedly some concern, richard. one top aide telling me they were prepared for nor wrinkle, another road block, but no one, no one, could have anticipated the enormity of this. they are puzzled about why exactly director comey decided to come forward with this at this very moment, just 11 days before election day, but they do seem resolved in their strategy moving forward. again, this strategy to ratchet up the pressure on director comey, to make him answer more questions, and one of the strong stuts th suits that you have, some republican comes forward saying they want more information. they seem deliberate and resolved to deal with this head-on and, again, that's a message that's really coming
1:05 pm
from secretary clinton herself. important to point out, though, richard, this e-mail issue is the issue that has overshadowed her campaign from the very beginning. it's the issue that feeds into voters lack of trust in her. no doubt this rattled the campaign and could be a political problem, but we're going to have to wait a number of days to see what the polling has to say about that. right now the campaign is focused on energizing supporters particularly in this early voting state, richard, yes. seeing some of that poll tightening within the last 24 to 48 hours. nbc's kristen welker following the clinton campaign. thank you for that. donald trump went on the attack today, as might be expected, in golden, colorado. he hit secretary clinton repeatedly throughout his rally over the fbi's review of newly discovered e-mails. take a listen. >> nobody to blame but herself. for her mounting legal troubles. her criminal action was willful,
1:06 pm
deliberate, intentional, and purposeful. hillary set up an illegal server for the obvious purpose of shielding her criminal conduct from public disclosure and exposure. >> trump then took aim at huma about doo abed abedin. wife of anthony weiner. the laptop was seized as part of an fbi investigation into weiner's sexting of an underaged girl. >> i wonder, is they going to keep huma? she's been a problem. do we agree? huma's been a problem. i wonder if huma's going to stay there? and i hope they haven't given huma immunity, because it seems that everybody that walks down the sidewalk got immunity.
1:07 pm
i hope they haven't given huma immunity, because she knows the real story. >> while trump and his vp pick mike pence both talked about the investigation today, house speaker paul ryan and senator marco rubio did not mention that during their individual rallies. nbc's katy tur joins me from golden, colorado. katy, you were watching what donald trump was saying during your show earlier today, and some of the new words that may have come out in the last 24 hours. watergate, right? i was just speaking with libertarian candidate johnson who brought up the word impreachment. getting extreme language from those obviously not in the democratic camp. what else are you seeing? >> reporter: you know, donald trump is acting as judge and jury right now. saying that these were obviously things that will end up ultimately indicting hillary clinton. criminal actions. e-mails that might threaten national security. his campaign wants to paint this
1:08 pm
in as big of terms as they possibly can. they want to muddy the waters and make hillary clinton voters stay at home. they don't want them going out and voting for hillary clinton, but they also want to convince republicans to come home to him. right now he's not enjoying as much republican support as his predecessors have, as mountain r mitt romney and john mccain did. that is a problem. if he doesn't get as many republicans into his camp as he can, it's very hard for him to win the election. he needs upwards of 90% of republicans voting for him and it's an issue the gop hopes will do that, and the nitty-gritty, the details of this are immaterial to the campaign right now. donald trump even saying that he believes that there were some of these 33,000 missing e-mails in this trove of e-mails found on anthony weiner's computer.
1:09 pm
take a listen to a little bit more of how he put it just a few minutes ago at this golden, colorado, rally. >> but they found by looking at anthony weiner -- a major, major, major sleaze, they found what may be some of the 33,000 missing and deleted e-mail. >> is she going to keep huma? huma's been a problem. do we agree? huma. huma's been a problem. i wonder if huma's going stay there? >> reporter: and he also said there was a revolt within the fbi what forced director comey's hand to make this announcement yesterday, but in reality, there's no evidence to support any of these claims that donald trump is making. that there was any sort of revolt within the fbi. that they found any of these missing 33,000 e-mails. there's also no evidence to support the claims that there is e-mails in there that could have
1:10 pm
compromised national security, or e-mails that will clearly show that hillary clinton or huma abedin was lying about anything. right now we don't just frankly have any of those details from fbi director comey, and nobody does at this moment, including the donald trump campaign. i spoke to jason miller a moments ago, donald trump's communications director. he admitted they did not have conversations with fbi director comey but kept saying there was clearly compromising information at play here. that is the only reason why fbi director comey wou come out with 11 days until the election and do this. that may be the case. it could be nobody knows at this point, but certainly to come out and say it is a striking terms, is something the campaign is doing deliberately, it seems, in order to muddy the waters, in order to make it look at unappealing as it possibly can. remember, they've had a very rocky few weeks. donald trump has had a rocky few weeks since that first debate. he didn't do well by the
1:11 pm
majority of accounts in this country by some republican standards, on those debates, and he was, now down in the polls, down in battleground state polls and the clinton team was looking forward to trying to regain the senate. talking about focusing on down ballot races instead of this race. so donald trump needed something to change momentum and this is something that the campaign is going to hold on to do try and do that. >> yeah. certainly going into a higher gear as the democratic effort is now having to down shift. nbc's katy tur. thank you from golden, colorado. appreciate that. any moment now hillary clinton will take the stage in daytona beach, florida. her first rally of the day. we'll have that for you live. next, with the election just ten days away, the question, is fbi's director comey e-mails out of line?
1:12 pm
1:13 pm
1:14 pm
1:15 pm
don't hide in silence. don't be an individual, or don't be the one that tries to sway an election ten days beforehand. the american people deserve and we want to know in its entirety what the e-mails are, and what you are investigating. >> that was congressman gregory meeks with fellow members of the congressional black caucus just last hour as they came to the mish microphones calling on director james comey to provide more information on the e-mails uncovered or involved in the letter sent to congress. meanwhile, donald trump shining a spotlight on anthony weiner, who the fbi was investigating when they say they found these e-mails that were in existence, that were pertinent to the
1:16 pm
investigation in the words of james comey. clinton is expected to take the stage in daytona beach, florida, any minute for her first rally since the news broke. we'll see what she will be saying when she comes to the microphone. joining me now, lauren fox with talking points memo, theron johnson and regional director of the obama 2012 campaign and giancarlo, former pokspokesman george bush and looking at the way donald trump is reacting to this, he is now shifting gears, right? trying to expand, if you will, those who might be exposed in this, and one of those in that story line is anthony weiner. listen to what donald trump said earlier today. >> as podesta said, she's got bad instincts. well, she's got bad instincts when the e-mails are on anthony weiner's -- wherever. ooh.
1:17 pm
sleaze bag. >> so that type of messaging here, giancarlo, maybe you wouldn't use it and certainly exciting his base, but does he get those -- your sort of voter? your sort of republican? does he get those because of this new story line? >> it doesn't get me. i don't think he gets anyone severely disappointed with the way that donald trump purported himself throughout this campaign. if this race were tighter, if donald trump had proven himself to be a better candidate, a more disciplined candidate, a better man, frankly, then in the nip and tuck of the final days of a presidential campaign, you better believe it could have made a difference. it's too little too late, i believe and i can't imagine who many republicans who were in the never trump camp are now suddenly going to switch to support him. all over things, revelations about hillary clinton we all knew forever existed. >> carl, aren't yous closest, that voter on the cusp, a
1:18 pm
republican, somebody who may have voted for the republican nominee, but's in recent weeks, because of other story lines, has started to move farther away? you seem you may be that person? >> i'm not. because this -- hillary clinton is a flawed and a terrible candidate, frankly, in her own right, and this new revelation, if in fact it is that, that the fbi uncovered, just proves that. this does nothing to get me any closer to donald trump. donald trump is flawed for him own reasons that have nothing to do with hillary clinton and the irresponsible and potentially illegal way she's comported herself as secretary of state and in private life. >> this is like an 18-wheeler. a bad situation. and when you look at what this might mean for the republican base, it's being said, and what we're hearing right now, it excites the base. right? energizes them to come out and vote. did you agree with that? >> well, i think it energizes the people who are going to vote for donald trump regardless of what hillary clinton or donald
1:19 pm
trump's campaign did in october. i agree with the gentleman who just spoke. this does nothing to help him with independent voters, particularly women voters. one thing we must say and continue to say this is that we received a letter less than 24 hours ago from the fbi director that the american people were notified of this letter and we are really still in the same position we were in yesterday. we have no facts. i totally commend the members of congress. congressman conyers and caummin and meeks, to fully disclose all the information he knows and more importantly, do it this weekend. what's really unfair to the american voter, whether you're voting for donald trump or hillary clinton, is that you now have to receive this information that is so flawed, so vague that it really doesn't allow you an opportunity to reach a conclusion, but one thing i'm very proud of hillary clinton is what she said yesterday. that is,'s listen, most americans and millions of
1:20 pm
americans like me have made up their minds how we feel about the e-mail scandal. i'm voting for hillary clinton no matter what is in the letter or newly recovered e-mails. >> yes or no. an 18 wheeler as donna brazile called it? >> i don't know if i would go as far as to say it was an 18 wheeler but definitely something that folks on both sides did not necessarily want to be talking about right now in our country where we really should be talking about jobs, education and health care. listen, i think that clinton is handled this very remarkably, and i think she's got to continue to say, fully disclose the information and let's not forget. the fbi director said that a lot of this stuff actually may not even be any evidence against her. it could be anything that --. we don't know. >> yeah. we don't know. the whole point. we don't know. >> more questions certainly than we actually do know and it's only, again, that handful of words that he said in this letter, the fbi learned of the existence of e-mails that appear to be per pertinent in the invoeft gatien. director comey's words there.
1:21 pm
lauren, is the clinton campaign, is the nominee herself, handling this the right way? is it strong enough or too strong? >> i think that this is exactly the kind of handling of a situation related to the e-mails that the press for a long time has been looking for from the clinton campaign. i think a lot of the criticism she got early on when this was part of an ongoing investigation and that investigation, again, ended in july, has just recently been sort of reopened here. i think this is exactly sort of the kind of reaction that media was looking for. that opponents of hers were looking for. i mean, the criticism has always been that clinton does not speak openly enough about her, you know, sort of -- pieces of this -- sorry. go ahead. >> pieces of this argument. pieces of the argument are now really directed, at least from, especially on the democratic side, director comey. getting a lot of pressure here. why now? and if you've done this, you've got to come out with more.
1:22 pm
that's the pressure now levied towards him subpoena that acceptable? is that right? >> that's sort of the only avenue the clinton campaign can pursue. they don't know anymore than what the press knows. they learned about this from the press reports. so in order to handle this they have to know exactly what kind of information, what was in these e-mails that director comey is looking at, and i think it's a fair response to say the american voters have a right to know, as do we, before we continue to respond to this about what was in these e-mails and why they might be pertinent to the investigation. >> i want to move to you on this, giancarlo, watching hillary clinton coming to the microphone there's in florida. daytona beach. we'll go to her as soon as she starts speaking here, but jian garl oh, as you looked at responses those in the middle, such as yourself, said it a second ago we're not going to get much out of this. probably exactly what the democratic party wants to say. we're going to stop in and listen to her very briefly.
1:23 pm
we're not actually going to stop in, but we're -- >> thank you! thank you so much. >> let's go to hillary clinton. >> thank you all! wow. thank you. thank you. i am just thrilled to be here. are you ready to canvas? wow. we need your help, in these last ten days until the election. i want to thank leslie parris for that introduction and her lifelong work on behalf of children. i want to thank state representative dwayne taylor and mayor derrick henry for being here with us. and to all of the elected officials, all of the organizers and the volunteers. i am thrilled to have this
1:24 pm
chance to come by and talk with you for a few minutes about what's at stake in this election, because -- this may be one of the most important elections in our lifetimes. and we cannot take anything or anyone for granted. i was just over at bcu for their homecoming celebration -- [ cheers and applause ] -- and a lot of people told me they'd already voted, but i said, get your friends, get your family, get everybody you know to vote! because you've got early voting here in this county and volusia county until november 5th. no excuses. everybody's got to get out and vote, and that's what this
1:25 pm
canvas is meant to make sure we do. right? now, i'm sure that some of you may have heard about a letter that the fbi director sent out yesterday. well, if you're like me, you probably have a few questions about it. it is pretty strange -- it's pretty strange to put something like that out with such little information right before an election. in fact, it's not just strange, it's unprecedented, and it is deeply troubling, because -- voters deserve to get full and complete facts, and so we've called on director comey to explain everything right away, put it all out on the table. right?
1:26 pm
now, of course, donald trump is already making up lies about this. he is doing his best to confuse, mislead and discourage the american people. i think it's time for donald trump to stop fearmongering, to stop disgracing himself -- to stop attacking our democracy. we can't let him get away with this. can we? now, you know, like any campaign, there have been ups and downs and ups and downs, but i've got to tell you, i feel so motivated, so excited, so ready -- because i've always stayed focused on one thing. you and your families.
1:27 pm
what i worry about are the problems that keep you up at night, and i'm going to stay focused on that, because you know on november 9th, that's what's going to matter. we can't let this election in the last ten days be about the noise and the distractions. it's got to be about what kind of country we wand four ourselves, our children and our grandchildren. and who can help take us there as your president. [ chanting "hill re" ] >> now, i think you and i agree the choice is pretty clear.
1:28 pm
between a president ready to bring us together, keep us safe and make the economy work for everyone, not just those at the top, and someone who is temperamentally unfit and totally unqualified for the job. now, i promise you this -- i will never stop working for you. every single day. as a candidate and most importantly as your president. that's how i was raised. you know? when i was over at becocu i mete of the methodist ministers because bcu is affiliated with
1:29 pm
the methodist church and i felt right at home, and my mother -- my mother taught me to never, ever quit. now, what does that mean? well, that means everybody gets knocked down. what matters is whether you get back up! and i've been fighting for families and underdogs my entire life, and i'm not stopping now. we're just getting started! and let's always remember what our wonderful first lady told us. when they go low, we go high! so no matter what they throw at us in these last days, we're not going to back down. we're not going to get distracted. we're not going to get knocked off course. because we know how much this
1:30 pm
election matters. we know how many people are counting on us. and that's why we're going to reject donald trump's dark and divisive vision about america. we are going to stick together and we're going to win on november the 8th! but we can't take that for granted. remember, we've got to keep our foot on the gas. right? because donald trump's strategy is pretty simple. they've even said it in this campaign. it's to get women to stay home, get young people to stay home, get people of color to stay home. and get a lot -- get a lot of smart, intelligent men to stay
1:31 pm
home, too. now, this is all part of his scorched earth campaign. it goes against everything we stand for. and you know how we stop him? by showing up with the biggest turnout of voters in american history. we need -- we need more of everybody to vote. more women, more young people, more people of color. more african-americans. more latinos. everybody, let's break every record that we've ever had for voting. let's make that the story of this election, and here in florida, you can, as you often have, make the difference. right, florida? if you all vote and you get everybody you know to vote, if
1:32 pm
you go out and talk to people today and every day about what's at stake in this election, then we will make history. we will win up and down the ballot, and i feel strongly about this, because we need people in washington who are problem-solvers. not problem-makers. that's why i hope you'll vote to sent patrick murphy to the senate. he will be an independent voice for florida families, and this is important. unlike his opponent, patrick has never been afraid to stand up to donald trump. now, here's some really good news. we just reached a milestone. more than 200 million americans are registered to vote. that is the highest number ever,
1:33 pm
and that includes 50 million young people. that's the most in history, and you know what else? more than 16.5 million people have already voted in this election. and more than 3 million of those votes have been right here in florida. now, e onyou only see numbers l we're seeing here in florida when people are standing up for what they really believe in. americans are coming together, and i know, because i hear from people who are republicans and independents who are joining us to reject hate and division. rejecting donald trump's demeaning treatment of women. his plans to break up immigrant
1:34 pm
families and deport millions of people. his lie that president obama wasn't born in america. i'll tell you, we have learned who donald trump is. now it's up to us to show who we are. and the energy that we are seeing is not just about what we're against. it's about what we're for. it's about a common vision that we share. for a hopeful, dynamic, unified america. where everyone counts. everyone has a place. everyone willing to work can get ahead a, and stay ahead. where women are respected. where veterans are honored. where workers are paid fairly. where marriage is a right and discrimination is wrong.
1:35 pm
so, my friends, it is not just the fact that my name will be on the ballot. everything we care about is at stake. your future. making college affordable. helping you pay back your debt. getting the cost of prescription drugs down. protecting and defending social security and medicare from privatization and wall street schemes. fighting climate change is at stake. lgbt equality is at stake. equal pay for women is at stake. in the end, we know the american dream itself is at stake. now, did any of you see the debates? well, i'll tell you, i stood
1:36 pm
next to donald trump for three debates, 4.5 hours, proving conclusively i have the stamina to be president and commander in chief. but i have to tell you, he said a lot of things that were troubling. but in that last debate, he said something that was truly horrifying. he is the first person of a major party, republican or democrat, ever to refuse to say he would respect the outcome of the election. now, we can -- we can think about every issue we care about, but, you know, after attacking women and african-americans and latinos and people with disabilities and muslims and p.o.w.s, and everybody, now he's attacking the institutions of democracy.
1:37 pm
and so it comes down to this -- when your kids and grandkids ask, what did you do in the 2016 election, when everything was on the line, i want you to be able to say you voted for a better, fairer, stronger america! and the way we're going to do that, we're going to turn everybody out. early voting has begun right here in volusia county, every day from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. until november 5th, you can vote. the nearest early voting site is just one mile away from here. at the volusia county library center of city island. so don't wait one more day. go vote, and then help us get everybody else out to vote, too.
1:38 pm
now, i know, i know that we've got our canvas organizers up here. i don't want to take too much of their time, because they are workers. they are organized. they are focused. i'm so grateful to them and to you, and we need you. we need you. stakes couldn't be higher. we've got to do everything we can. i don't want anybody- i don't want anybody waking up on november 9th and saying, oh, i wish i had just done a little more. so help us knock on doors. make phone calls. talk to voters. and ask them, when are you going to vote? do you know where you're going to cast your ballot? who will you take with you? and make sure they know about early voting, already begun here in florida. and then, if you need to, sign up yourselves. we have -- we have signups for three more shifts between now and election day. and, you know, this is going to be a close election.
1:39 pm
they always are these days. and we're going to win, because of you. because of hard-working volunteers like you. and if -- if you know anybody thinking about voting for donald trump, stage an intervention. remember -- friends don't let friends vote for trump. and think about it this way. on january 20th, we're going to have a new president. and i'll tell you what. i will be proud to build on the progress we've made under president obama and go eastern furth further. -- go even further, but i can't do any of the things that i'm talking about, any of the plans that i have, unless you help me. so that's what i'm asking you.
1:40 pm
that's why i came to daytona beach today. i came to ask you to help me in these last ten days. let's give every american a chance to chart their own future. make their own contributions. let's build a future we can all be proud of, and let's make sure we prove once and for all that love trumps hate! thank you! ♪ and i'll rise up, i'll rise like the day ♪ i'll rise up ♪ i'll rise unafraid ♪ secretary clinton there in daytona beach, florida, kicking off a canvas kickoff they're calling it in daytona beach. there at the john dickerson community center in the ralph robinson gymnasium. she's going to spend the entire day there in florida. spending, oh, about 20, 30 minutes in entirety and we took that from beginning to end.
1:41 pm
not wasting any time in her comments, if you're just joining you criticizing the fbi director james comey and his release of that letter to leaders of congress, not very long. about three paragraphs, again saying that they have learned about the existence of e-mails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation, and they will be looking into that, and he will be assigning an investigating team. she came out challenging directly why he did it, whether it was prudent and i'll replay just a little bit of how she started that commentary and criticism of what he did. this just happened a short time ago. take a listen. >> some of you may have heard about a letter that the fbi director sent out yesterday. well, if you're like me, you probably have a few questions about it. it is pretty strange -- it's pretty strange to put something
1:42 pm
like that out with such little information right before an election. in fact -- in fact, it's not just strange, it's unprecedented, and it is deeply troubling, because voters deserve to get full and complete facts, and so we've called on director comey to explain everything right away, put it all out on the table. >> all right. bring in republican strategist adam goodman in tampa. jessica erlich, former congressional candidate from saint petersburg. a lot to talk about what's happening in your state now. jessica, first, i replayed what she said early around hearing this consistently from all of the democratic surrogates. coming out strong, congressional black caucus echoing what she was saying just now. she didn't waste any time. it wasn't put in, if you will, the middle or end of the speech.
1:43 pm
with led with that sound bite i just played saying director comey, you shouldn't be doing this. is this the right tone and how long should she keep this tone, jessica. >> not that they said he shouldn't be doing this but said bring out all the information. clearly, they're trying not to show any fear there's anything left to be revealed. that's the most important thing. a sense of confidence there where it's like, yes, this is not a great situation. everyone has questions. you know, hillary herself said she has questions, because she's like, i'm confident that there's nothing there that they'll find. so why not show it to the american people? and the irony being, that echoes actually what mike pence even said himself yesterday. so i think everyone kind of is onboard that what is the information here we're looking at? and you know, pretty much that they think it's kind of a nothing burger. >> adam, is it a nothing burger? >> wow.
1:44 pm
i don't know where to begin. first, i saw what secretary clinton was saying just now and thought it was an indictment of director comey and the fbi, impugning their intentions before the election. the -- to borrow from al gore, the inconvenient truth in this election is that americans, majority of americans, do not trust hillary clinton. they just don't, and this kind of stuff, whether it comes out ten days before an election or ten months, is important for americans to ponder, because the one thing that's holding americans back from you might say pulling the lever or writing in hillary clinton is the fact that we just don't have this feeling we can trust her, and this information is important, and we also heard today, richard, as you know, from other sources that the department of justice was working behind the scenes to stop the fbi director from releasing this. i believe in full disclosure and full information. the american people deserve to know as much as possible about
1:45 pm
those who, leaders who seek positive be the commander in chief and i think today's news and today's actually reaction was somewhat disturbing. >> it's not here though, adam, without others echoing that criticism about whether director comey should have actually done what he did, less than 24 hours ago. the attorney general, loretta lynch through reporting of the "washington post" said, i did not want this to happen, and it has been said by the secretary, former secretary of state herself. this is precedent setting in terms of the fbi coming out at this point and given that, we will not probably get the outcome, or get any information of what was actually found vis-a-vis what he is alluding to in his letter here. why now? that's the criticism. >> richard, that's a good point, but we're never going to know what was in those 30,000-plus e-mails that were deleted. we're never going to know a lot of things that happened in and around the clinton foundation that caused such a stir.
1:46 pm
we're not going to know a lot of these things prior to the election either. but the more we understand about a conversation that's out there. i believe the american voter are entitled to know as much as possible before the election will be better informed moving into an election and change election, it's the elements of trust. trust in the system, and generally people want change where they've lost confidence in the status quo and what is. >> change oh lection potentially a wave election, potentially as we look at numbers. jessica, respond to what adam said and as well react to this race that's tightening not only in national numbers also in your state. a large gap in your state as you know is two or three percentage points. if you're lucky. look at the clear politics average, we're below -- 0.2% is where it is now, and the clinton campaign working hard, down ballot marco rubio is up ten points over his challenger.
1:47 pm
democrat patrick murphy at the moment, he is beating him. why is murphy struggling against rubio at this moment when you look at the numbers there in the state? >> well, you know, there's a lot of factors that are going into play here. across the state in terms of not only voter turnout but is there down ballot voting? which is what you're alluding to. >> that's right. >> for patrick, he's just a little bit of a disability here which i think seven he said and everyone agrees to, because he hasn't run for president. his name recognition and his name i.d. is not as high as marco rubio's. even democrats all know who marco rubio is, and so the question we're going to see and i think we'll see it not only in florida but possibly across the country is, are these record number of voters who are turning out voting down ball jit are they voting for one person from one party for president and skipping senate or voting the senate and voting in different parties? i mean, it's going to be really fascinating, and i think that's part of this sort of whole
1:48 pm
concept of change. >> yes. >> that, you know, adam was alluding to, and particularly in florida, that's one of those issues we're seeing record numbers of turnout. the numbers are very tight. they're going to be, i think, will be going all night on election night to decide. we're very lucky here adam and i in tampa bay, the hot bed, place for the entire state of florida i think will really determine what the outcome is for the state of florida. and we'll give a suggestion probably early on what it's going to look like, but patrick has that sort of problem of running against someone who has some of the highest name recognition in of the country. just went through a huge national fight. >> and adam reflect on that, because as we look at the split voter, right, marco rubio doing well. polling better at the moment than the presidential nominee, and you've heard some of his messaging today about how he's reacted to director comey's letter here. talking about anthony weiner, talking about huma abedin. is this the way you're going to shift, if you will, those key

understand decideds right now for the top of the ticket? >> well, let's talk -- i'll answer this two ways. one, the specific question about the rubio/murphy race. marco rubio has a clear swlaergs vision what he wants to do for america. patrick murphy got off to a rocky start talking about his resume what he did or did not do in the past. that's a unique stwhags i think maybe the polls reflect this particular environment in that particular debate. but in the larger issue, and in florida, we've seen just in the last couple days, richard, both donald trump and hillary clinton coming in, more than once, and i was here in tampa recently when trump came in and about 20,000 people came out, and it was wild. wild meaning it was enthusiastic. people were pumped up. these are not -- and i was

there. i could see that the voters that were coming in were not your, kind of your normal flock of voters. they were -- they were, had reasons why they wanted to be there. they had reasons why they were questioning the current leadership, under president obama, as opposed to hillary clinton where a couple days later she came in and had i think a couple thousand people show up. you can't manufacture enthusiasm. i think that's something that's been undercounted in all the polls to date, and florida unfortunately for all of us in florida, i think is going to be razor thin once again. >> florida, florida, florida. as one famous nbc -- >> that's right. >> we remember, tim russert and the way he discussed previous elections there in that great state of yours, which i owned a travel agency there, would make a lot of money. >> jessica erlicher, you've been great. next, if you are a swing state voter, by the way, don't like your choices for president, there is a way to swap your vote. i kid you not. it is totally legal.
