two weeks sparked by a petition from jill stein. stein just filed a recount petition in pennsylvania too and said she is going to file in michigan as well. why those three? if you want to cut to the heart of it, if clinton had won them, she would be president. they allege russia may hacked the voting machines, but do they have hard evidence? not really. we should note that clinton's lawyers are involved in the wisconsin recount. trump is calling it a scam, but trump is alleging vote rigging in the election he won. he doesn't have hard evidence for that either. the white house is defending the results. a official told me we believe our elections were free and fair. individual states are pushing back as well. wiscons wisconsin's party took shots at

jill stein and donald trump. >> the people who requested this expressed concern about the possibility that machines were hacked. have you seen anything to justify that concern? >> no. it's most unfortunate that the president-elect is claiming that there is huge problems with our system and that's feeding what i call this conspiracy theory. i have never seen this kind of attack on poll workers. and how this system worked. >> meanwhile there is a country to govern amid the tweet storm among the election results. trump is facing a revolt with his own staff. it was by kellyanne conway and sheered by other transition officials. >> i'm reflecting what the grass roots are saying. they feel betrayed you can get romney back in there after

everything he did. we don't know if he voted for donald trump. >> what kellyanne is relaying are the messages that she is getting and i'm getting. many people felt like the comments were not helpful to the party as a whole. >> what do i know about mitt romney? he is a self serving ego maniac who puts himself first and has a chip on his shoulder who thinks he should be president of the united states. >> we have a lot to chew on. we begin with halle jackson. good to see you. let's start with the tweet storm that led into sunday night. let me read you the top two tweets. donald trump tweeting in addition winning the electoral college. i won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally. they stopped the news cycle. and this. serious voter fraud in virginia, new hampshire and california. why isn't the media reporting on

this? you have been doing fact checking all day. what did you find? >> the political unit with fact checkers, i did an interview with somebody from the center for justice and the cons census is there is not evidence to substantiate the claims. the trump transition team would beg to differ and sent over 40 plus pages of documentation that they say backs up the claims and much of what they said has been debunked by us and other fact checkers. where is the beef, if you will. the concern from some, including folks i spoke with is if you have the president-elect who is working to essentially delegitimize the election he won, what does it mean for voting rights laws down the road and baffling to some premises that the person who won the election would now be calling the very election that they won

unfair. >> mark murray coined the term sore loser earlier today. does he run the risk of making himself at this very moment where he is empowered and building his administration look like he is a sore loser and does he under cut the power he gained? >> maybe a sore winner. there is a concern in some corner that that could happen. again, you have to see how this -- you look at why he tweeting about this. it seems irritation from the recount from jill stein and the green party in wisconsin and now pennsylvania and michigan as well. concern from the president-elect. lashing out against that. real question marks here that i don't think have been sufficiently answered, particularly not by the president-elect who has not made a statement other than what he put online. >> now let's talk about the

intrigue with the secretary of state. there is the internal battle between rudy giuliani and mitt romney and david petraeus. meeting with president-elect trump, what do you make of that and is the internal fighting real? >> let me take the first part of your question. yes. you are seeing factions within the transition team not unusual. we saw factions during donald trump's campaign for the last year and a half. this is not a different way of doing business for the president-elect. what you are seeing are factions lining up in one camp. rudy giuliani and has been there and loyal from the beginning and a more unorthodox choice. you have people giving the infighting thaw are seeing. daylight for him to have an opportunity. he was at trump tower in the last hour and he believed he had a good conversation with the

president-elect. he was impressed and you have an opportunity from senator bob corker who was coming in tomorrow in talks for the position and john bolton who is still in the mix. >> halle jackson, you are continuing to track the developments. we want to bring you senator from oklahoma, james langeford. thank you so much. appreciate it. >> glad to. >> let me start with the discussion of the exlection results. do you trust the election results? do you have any reason to doubt them? >> i don't have any reason to doubt them. there is limited voter fraud, but it's small in number and very limited. >> just to put a fine point on it, is president-elect trump wrong and is it irresponsible to question the results in the way he is by saying he believes

millions of votes were illegal? >> i don't know any source that is out there saying millions of votes were illegal or that the russians hacked into systems and changed the votes. i haven't seen evidence for eefrth on either one. >> the green party said that they found the states where the victory is very narrow. let's take a look and make sure there is no discrepancy. is there not a small difference between what the green party and the president-elect is saying. why not look at the results to make sure everything was on the up and occuup. >> going into the system and look for anomalies. that is evaluating. a recount, you are physically counting votes and not looking for a computer anomaly.

all the systems are off line as well. they are stand alone system. the rumor that the only way donald trump could have won that the russians interfered has been an ongoing dialogue for a while and i don't see evidence of that. >> the white house said they don't see evidence, but the green party would argue, look, the russians according to intelligence did hack into democrats's e-mails throughout the process. they were at the root of the wikileaks. given that broader context, do they not have a right to take a look and check it out. >> they have a right and they raised the money and they are doing that at this point. it's differently to say they hacked into a server than they hacked into a stand alone computer or voting machine on it. that's a very different hack and a different system. that's not something we have

seen evidence of anywhere. >> let me ask you about the story we are tracking which is this internal fighting over rudy giuliani and mitt romney. mitt romney endorsed you in 2012 when you ran for reelections. do you think he would be a good candidate given he came out came out so strongly against candidate trump? >> that's up to donald trump. he will look at the best qualified and they looked at every president wants to have people around that i loyal, but they want to put the best possible people up there. i will wait and see, but he has a lot of good options and he can choose any one that he chooses. >> does one outweigh the other? they were talking about loyalty and chris collins calling him a self serving ego maniac.

do you share that assessment and kellyanne conway's assessments? >> they will have to determine loyalty. the statements he made during the campaign were combative and harsh, but as we saw at the end of it, ted cruz turned around and they had harsh words as well. ted cruz has been in which has been well publicized to advise the team into good ideas and policy issues. we will work together in the white house in the days ahead. you can mend fences on it, but loyalty is important. who is the best qualified is the primary consideration. >> thank you so much for your perspective. we appreciate it. >> glad to be with you. >> we have an all-star panel. a super lawyer and analyst as the senior adviser for

moveon.org. thanks to all of you for being here. there is a lot to get to. let's talk about this recount. you have the green party and the clinton campaign joining and starting with this recount, do you think anything changes? >> it would be unprecedented for a recount. to swing the results in all states seems quite improbable. even jill stein said she doesn't think it's going to happen. she wants an accurate count. it's unlikely this changes anything, but i understand the frustration the clinton supporters feel over the narrow margins that cost her the presidency. >> i thought it was interesting because you heard the senator saying essentially he couldn't defend what donald trump is saying and he can't defend what the green party is doing.

do you think that donald trump's reaction under cuts him at the moment where he is building the transition? >> i think it under cuts him and you used the word a sore winner. it goes into that and you should mines the case against it by falsely stating voting fraught and it's an attack on our democracy and an assault. that's a very dangerous thing to be doing when why not give confidence on the voting system, especially in the divided election that we saw. >> what's your take and do you think jill stein is going down a false narrative by talking about russian hack something. >> yes, i do. there is now a north carolina governor's race and hillary clinton's lawyer is representing the democrat who is ahead by

significantly less than the margin of error. he said you should accept defeat and concede. he has not said that to jill stein and the clinton campaign has gone into the three straights, hoping that jill stein comes up with something. they should be listening to what hillary clinton said. >> for president-elect trump thinks that the election system was rig and there were so many extra votes, doesn't he undo his argument? >> he was specific in three states, each of which he lost. it is an unusual tactic to challenge the election results that you won. >> let's talk about secretary of state. it is fascinating. you have the internal futs going on. where do you think the deliberations are? it's impossible to know what's going on in trump's mind. what do you think is emerging as the front-runner and kellyanne

conway said she has real questions about romney's loyalty. >> it's not unusual for them to do a lot of talking women saw that by barack obama. we have never seen the public lobbying as we have seen with kellyanne conway and mike huckabee weighing in that the list of office holders against mitt romney, clearly there is a divide within the inner councils for trump. that creates an opening for someone like bob corker, the senator from tennessee to walk through if mitt romney and rudy giuliani knock each other out. >> what are about petraeus and he has problems. >> he has problems along the line of handling of classified information. this was an issue that donald trump hammered hillary clinton for during the campaign.

it's not impossible, but it creates a problem of optic was appointing him for someone who was guilty of mishandling classified information as he said hillary clinton did. >> do you think it is overplayed? >> i think it is being overplayed. i don't think kellyanne conway goes on tv without trump knowing. she is in charge of the message it's a ploy to distract from the real story, the conflict of interest with his businesses. i don't believe it and i don't buy it. the thing i call it is the pretreas apr petraeus and the reality game show world. contestant number who is mitt

romney who said donald trump was unfit to be president and america's future was in emergency. you have rudy giuliani who is a die-hard trump loyalist. >> can someone who is so critical of the president-elect when he was a candidate serve as secretary of state? that is the most important position. one of them in the cabinet. >> that's the team of rivals concept. 2kru678 gets to choose who he thinks the best sec of state is. people who were loyalists get to give him unvarnished opinions. the public part is unusual. it is donald trump's choice and many people said perhaps it is the most significant choice. >> i have been talking to republican who is say they like

welcome back to "mtp daily" we have an update in the electoral college vote. trump's total is 306 after winning michigan. the presidential race in new hampshire with the four electoral votes is too close to call. michigan certified the results and trump won the state by a margin of 10,704 votes. the first republican to carry michigan in a presidential election since 1988. we'll be right back with the very latest on that attack today at ohio state university. stay with us. bl [burke] hot dog. seen it. covered it.

people with a butcher's knife that they recovered. a university police officer shot and killed him and he was the only person in the car. the total of 11 people were hospitalized and one listed this critical condition. none of the injuries are life-threatening. justice correspondent pete williams has been track the story. >> he was born in somalia and they fled somalia in 2007. he went to live in pakistan and seven years later they came to the united states via jfk airport and at least for him and family members, he attended a community college and graduated with an associate's degree and enrolled at the osu and was a freshman first year student. he is 18 years old, born in 1998

and was a lawful permanent resident. authorities are looking for the motive and searching the apartment where he lived and they are looking through his social media and intrusion family members and friends i trooing to figure out what led to the attack. this morning there was a post on a facebook page in which he talked about attacks on muslims around the world. it led to a poiling point and i can't take it anymore. who the motive was here and whether he was inspeiered by isis or al qaeda or other propaganda, that is to be determined in the days to come. >> as you are speak, we are looking at live pictures of the suspect's car being taken away from the campus. >> let's be clear about this. as we understand it, that is the car he drove. officials say that is not his car. it apparently belonged to a

arrests and massive exodus of cubans leaving the island. they didn't get the memo about a worker's paradise. the regime is so fearful of them coming out to the streets to say anything against the dictatorship. >> what about the fact thaw do have flightings and restrictions. is there a way to do both to get a better deal, but to keep some of those changes in place? of course and president-elect trump said he is willing to take a look at. he challenged raul castro which is something president obama has never done. he said we want political reforms. we want religious reforms and freedom for the people. think of the concessions, we got

nothing out of it and the cuban people have been mired in misery because of the failed castro regime and marxist leninist policy. we have not kept the cuban people unfree. the castro regime has done so. we shouldn't be blamed for the misery going on in cuba. people want to be get and want to be able to vote. >> as you heard the obama administration make this argument, the president himself, what happened for the past 50 years has not worked. we have to try something new to break out of that endless cycle. what do you make of that argument and the fact that if you look at the polls in miami-dade county among cuban americans, 54% said the u.s. should end the cuban embargo. 32% said no. >> president-elect trump nor president obama can do away

with. that is up to the u.s. congress and we have a good coalition. >> should it be lifted? >> of course not until the conditions are met. freedom for political prisoners. is that not a good condition to have? free elections? why should they not really have a president. and why are it is cuban people not allowed to have that? it's not our policy that keeps them, but the failed policy. we should not be blamed for the faults. we have been the best friends of the cuban people. they are coming in droves to my district. that's why people literally died to come to the shores of freedom. they love the united states. >> let me play you something from marco rubio and get your reaction. >> everything should be guided by our goal. our goal is not to punish, but to figure out what to do through u.s. policy to number one, look

out for the initial interest to the united states and number two, to help create an environment where we create the potential for a transition to a democratic order in cuba at some point in the near future. >> i know you agree, but how do you make it happen without giving concessions on the u.s. side which is what the obama administration is doing. >> that's all the administration has done. they haven't produced any change. they are not any freer. i believe what they say. cuba will change when cuba says it will change and does change. it is not up to the united states to impose a freedom or dictatorship on other people, but we can lay the ground work to help them free themselves. one thing we can do is help for the political prisoners. where is the president's voice. instead of sending condolences to the castro family, why not send condolences to the victims

of political prisoners? we never stand alongside the victims of the tyranny. we stand alongside the regime. we are better than that. >> thank you so much for joining us with your perspective. appreciate it. joining me now is bill nelson. thank you for being here. appreciate it. i want to get your reaction to two points she made in her remarks. she responded to that statement that president obama put out. let me remind the viewers. history will record and judge the enormous impact of this singular figure on the people and world around him. >> i think he was commenting condolences to the castro family, but then the rest of his statement he went on to talk about the cuban people. and their welfare.

>> what are about what the congresswoman said in terms of she believes the united states has given too many concessions in the executive actions the president has taken. a number of constituents likely share her view. what do you say when they said yes, donald trump, when he gets into office should reverse the actions that president obama took. >> iliana is a friend of mine. the two of us agree on the embargo not being changed until we see the establishment of freedoms and the lifting of the oppression on human rights. we agree on that. the difference in my approach is the increased travel especially for cuban americans, the increase remittances and the ability to sell communication equipment i think is all going

to benefit the cuban people. we have already seen little private interprets start as a result of a lot of those remittances coming back. this to me seems to be getting us into the 21st century while holding a hard line and i have been anti-castro for decades, holding a hard line until they start letting up on these abuses that we are going to keep the embargo in place. >> they tweeted against raul castro to have basic rights and freedoms, but also say that president-elect trump should continue president obama's policies when he is in office. is that pushing a hard in uf line? how do you get the cuban government to make any changes under the circumstances?

if you keep the travel going and the remittances and send in equipment, you will be benefiting the cuban people and that in itself is going to if castro wants or if raul wants to get rid of the embargo, he has to deal to lift all of this repression of his people. >> she said so far it hasn't worked. she is not satisfied with the level of change. are you? do there need to be more pressure points? >> these are little steps in the beginning of a long journey. what you are seeing is private interpret and the more we have americans down there, the more this communication is going to be. this island is walled off from

the rest of the world because of the iron grip of a dictator. let's open it up and get in and use the carat and stick of the economic embargo to get them to start lessening off all of this repression on their people. >> and just finally before i let you go, i wonder what you make of the comments that we have heard from president-elect donald trump about cuba. it's not entirely clear what he plans to do on day one. doey expect him to reverse the executive actions reversed by president obama? >> i don't know the answer to that because we heard two of his top people say opposite things on the sunday shows. reince priebus said one thing and kellyanne conway said another thing. i think we have to find out what

blow-by-blow conflicts of interest with his business. which is unprecedented and dangerous. and when we're talking about cuba, the problem he has with every foreign policy decision that he's going to make is going to be tainted because of his 20 -- you know, i think he does business with 20 countries and his conflict of interest. so i think it's incredibly problematic. and you know, if he does business with india, if he does business with china, it's all going to be questioned because of the conflicts of interest. >> and we're showing a map right now of all the various places the where he has business holdings. susan, talk about, because carine makes such a great point, does this not complicate almost every single decision he makes? >> it's complicated, it's unprecedented, and hard to figure out how he handles it. it's not as though that he has a business that he could put in a blind trust or investments he could just sell off. he has a brand in more than 20 countries, including big countries with which we do a lot of business, like the

philippines and indonesia and india. and even if he extracts himself from running these companies, we expect his children to be running them. so very close to him. so it's not clear to me how this gets sorted out, although i do agree with ben, and think it's unlikely this republican congress >> jump in on that point. >> let me disagree a little bit on the timing part. the election was three weeks ago. it is complicated. he doesn't take the office for -- until january 20th. this is something that you take the time to get right. this is the way lawyers make their money. there are, i'm sure, solutions to these problems. and there are a lot of very talented lawyers looking at it. the office of government ethics in the federal government needs to pass on various arrangements. and what you don't want to do as a new president is hand a weapon to your enemies on every decision you make. so i think they're well aware of that. and they're dealing with it. >> can i just add, chris. i think the other troubling part

of it is, too, is his children. what role -- there's been talk about, will they be part of the administration, or will they won't? and jared's been spoken about, as well. and so, to me, that's also concerning, especially if you're talking about a blind trust. >> susan, you think about jared and he has been probably his closest adviser who hasn't been in the spotlight. a lot of people would be surprised if he doesn't play some role, if ivanka doesn't play some role. how should he navigate that? and those are jobs number one and two for his white house counsel? >> yeah, big questions. obviously, jared kushner is someone he trusts, very influential adviser. could run up against the law that prevents presidents from employing close relatives. the law that was passed in the aftermath of the kennedy administration, when robert kennedy because attorney general. and his daughter, i think, even more problematic in a way, because we expect her to continue to be involved with her businesses. so there is the potential here for real conflicts of interest. donald trump is right when he says, the conflict of interest

law does not apply to him, but that does not mean he won't have conflicts of interest. it just means that the law is not going to be the guidepost on what he has to do about it. >> we're almost out of time pinpoint to get to a new tweet senator kaine just sent out. he said, trump's claim of voter fraud in virginia is shameful. hillary clinton won virginia by five plus points and the popular vote by more than 2 million. don't insult our voters. ben, what do you make of that tweet, given that they're now joining this recount effort. >> i think tim kaine should be talking to the clinton campaign, who's getting into the recounts, if he wants to speak with authority on that subject. >> and of course the clinton campaign says, we didn't instigate this, but we should have a lawyer at the table if we're going to do the recount. but this is about the popular vote. >> that's what's getting under trump's skin. we were talking about this earlier, because he is being told, hey, you don't have a mandate, because, yeah, you may have won the electoral college votes, but not the popular. >> susausan, final word? >> 2.2 million votes. biggest margin for a loser in
