we'll have the bad news coming up in a bit. and john kennedy has been elected the newest u.s. senator, he fills david vitter's vacant seat, beating democrat foster campbell, that means the republicans will have a 52-48 hold in the u.s. senate. trump rallied with a few thousand people saying the system had been rigged against him in the primaries where he won the popular vote but lost delegates. >> we're going to build the wall. well, if john's not there maybe we can't build the wall. so now i know you're going to come back. we're going to build the wall. noon yesterday. passengers were safely deplaned and bussed to the terminal. the exact cause is under investigation. the heavy snowfall affecting the area is certainly suspected. all passengers and crew are said to be unharmed after that incident. i suspect that's not going to be the last time we see something like that. >> chicago had about six inches of snow. it will take a while for that to melt. this morning what was in the great lakes, and by the way you're clear in cleveland and chicago and detroit. we started out with light snow in areas of new jersey, new york city, that went over to rain overnight. so the roads are dramatically improved from last night, but the cold air is still sitting in areas of the hudson valley, through massachusetts, notice hartford up to 33. now your roads will start improving here. the secondary roads will be the ones a little treacherous.

boston's up to 34. it's going to be interior and northern new england that days icy and snowy today. 1.2 million people are under winter warnings. warnings mean harsh conditions. the white is one inch, the light blue is two inches. it's not until you get to the pink that it's four to six inches. that's mostly new hampshire and maine. everybody else is mostly done with their accumulating snows. it's only areas of northern and eastern maine that are dealing with the snow and ice, so it's going to be in and out of here in a hurry. the worst of it here, it improves. and there's still some cold air

expected to be named the next secretary of state. trump's top aides remain concerned about his relationship with vladimir putin. some are urging that the choice be delayed. tillerson has spent his entire career at exxon. his rise was marked by ambitious projects with russia. in the 1990s, he oversaw the sack lynn island project. five years ago, exxon signed a multi-billion dollar deal with the russian-owned oil company to drill in the arctic, something the russians couldn't do without american expertise. the deal led to tillerson receiving the order of friendship declaration and later a billion barrel oil discovery off russia's northern coast in 2014. they were about to start drilling, but the project was halted when the u.s. and

european unions levied sanctions against russia for its aggression against ukraine. exxon said those sanctions were costing the company $1 billion. tillerson has fought against the sanctions saying in may 2014, we don't find them to be effective, unless they are very well implemented. we always encourage the people who are making those decisions to consider the very broad collateral damage of who they really are harming with sanctions. alex? >> and of course the possibility of rex tillerson being selected to li lead the state department, marco rubio tweeted being a friend of vladimir is not an attribute i'm hoping for for secretary of state. john mccain said tillerson would have to face some tough questions. >> vladimir putin is a thug and a bully and a murderer, and i

trading partner which virtually ground to a halt after the revolution. and the iranians here are touting it as a big victory. because they've been complaining that there's been no tangible results since the nuclear deal was inked a little over a year ago, and now they've got a deal with boeing for 80 planes as you said, over ten years, worth $17 billion. so it's a really big deal for the iranians, and it has been criticized in the states. there are groups saying boeing shouldn't have made the sale to iran. president-elect trump has also been very critical over iran and it will be interesting to see how he navigates their deal with iran, but it's a big deal for iran and something that iran really needed, ali, because their aging fleet has one of the worst aviation records in the world. >> and it's got a very big air traffic industry. competing airlines. i notice a deal has a lot of triple sevens, which are not

usually used in the country, that means for international flights. it's worth noting they're also working on a deal with boeing's main competitor, airbus. >> reporter: that's right. they're almost playing the two against each other to sigh what ki -- see what kind of a good deal they can get. iranians can't get enough planes, their planes are in really, really bad shape. the hat racks have fallen off mid flight. it's had a terrible safety record. so they really do need an abundance of planes and parts which they were unable to get during the sanctions. >> our bureau chief in tehran. good to see you. thank you. oil getting a huge boost this morning after opec and non-opec oil producers agreed on a deal to cut oil production. last i checked up almost 5% this morning. >> yes, that's right, moving at

a range of 4% to 5% higher this morning. and it is the first deal between opec and non-opec members since 2001. so you can't play down the significance of this one. yes, there are some fears over full compliance, when you talk about the level of the cuts that were agreed. but i was just speaking to an analyst from energy aspects. he told me not overly concerned about it, because even without full compliance, he still sees prices going to $60 a barrel for u.s. wti crude in the first half of next year and in the second half of 2017 getting to $68 a barrel. nevertheless, the consensus seems to be that this deal will continue to push oil prices even higher. elsewhere, president-elect donald trump is expected to hold a round table meeting with the biggest names in tech on wednesday. recode has reported that apple ceo tim cook and sheryl sandberg are among the guests expected to

be attending that round table. the microsoft ceo should be in attendance as well. there have been mixed reports over whether or not tesla ceo elon musk will be there. but nevertheless, this is a big meeting when you consider that the president-elect has had a bit of a mixed history with silicon valley thus far. we did hear from oracle ceo saying that he wants to talk to the president-elect about tax changes that he thinks could be encouraging r the tech sector as a whole. another big name to check out is whether amazon ceo bezos will be attending. >> he's still trying to get him there, but he's got other commitments that he's trying to change. we'll see whether elon musk shows up. thank you so much. still ahead, we have more big business news. another big investigation involving wells fargo and claims

all right, here's one for you. just two months after federal regulators said that wells fargo had set up millions of phony accounts, the company may have found itself in hot water again. new allegations say that the company may have been involved in life insurance fraud in partnership with prudential. gadi schwartz has more. >> reporter: it was one of the most wide-spread cases of consumer abuse and fraud in history. employees fired after the los angeles city attorney filed a lawsuit which alleged bankers set up customers for millions of unwanted accounts to meet aggressive sales quota.

welcome back. the syrian army is continuing to retake rebel-held portions of aleppo. the army released new video of fighting yesterday as its forces carried out more shelling and raids. the associated press reports that the syrian military claims it is now in control of 98% of aleppo, while reuters reports that syrian rebels had received a u.s.-backed proposal to leave aleppo along with civilians with safe passage. meanwhile, syria's government has reportedly allowed the

islamic state group to retake the city of palmyra. isis was forced from that city back in march. meanwhile, turkish-based rebels have claimed responsibility for bombings in istanbul. two bombs explode near a soccer stadium shortly after a match ended. officials say the first explosion was caused by a car bomb via a remote control. 30 of those killed are police officers, and they say the attacks targeted security forces. at least 25 people are dead after a bombing at a coptic christian cathedral. a bomb was thrown into the chapel just at the end of sunday mass, this part of st. peter's church. for more on this, let's bring in
