people. they are. the enemy of the people because they have no sources, they just make them up, when there are none. and i love the first amendment. nobody loves it better than me. nobody. who uses it more than i do? but the first amendment gives all of us, d gives it me, to all americans the right to speak our minds freely. it gives you the right and me the right to criticize fake news and criticizing strongly. the fake news doesn't tell the truth. so just in finishing, i say it doesn't represent the people, it never will represent the people, and we're going to do something about it. >> we're going to do something about it. this afternoon president trump made good on that threat.

cnn, political and other organization were stopped at door and told they were not allowed to cover today's briefing. sean spicer held cnn respond in statement saying this unacceptable development by the trump white house this is how they retaliate when they report facts they don't like. we'll keep reporting regardless. nothing like this ever happened in the white house in long history of coverage multiple -- exclusions of the "new york times" and other free media access to transparent government is crucial national interest. others have spoken out. a spokesperson said -- had we noted this time or at this time,

and the onl justification i can think of is - it accounts for emotional spasasm this is enemy of the people, reporters have talked to people in the white house, trump white house about sensitive intelligence operation that we find out about in the press and i think trump is horrified this is out there. trump is a newcomer saying how do reporters now about these things and so it's -- we have to stop it. we're going to do something, as he said the other day, he calling the justice department and this leak investigation. >> he talking there's nothing to a story, which is extraordinary.

they use comey to say there's nothing to this story about my people's relationship with the russian during the campaign. >> it's not clear what happened. but something happened. that's not going to work either, in the media business we need to show and be advocates for transparency and over the decades i have tried to make the argument to people in government its to your benefit to have the public and the press know what's going on because if not, you go -- dan knows this so well, nix nix nixon bunker and you become isolated and the anger gets translated into nixon plumbers and become illegally so it's everyone's interest to get this

done. >> one of the great things about our space program we were open about it. we said there was a man abaoard. we were open about it. this comes after cnn first reported that the white house chief of staff reince priebus asked fbi official to push back. that conversation started two stories administration objected to. one by "new york times" characterizing trump's campaign as intelligence officials. another cnn describing both sides as being in constant contact. glenn, this is your world of trying to figure out the stories. the white house, the old trick of flak erie, you deny the story. you say the story is inaccurate.

because the piece doesn't fit the fact when 90% does. what's the white house flaker ri here? >> that's what is curse about this. a couple of things are happening, first of all, in some instances, the white house is not responding to inquiries on fact which makes things difficult. the other thing that i find interesting of this white house is their use of categorical denials. on one of the stories, i forget which, reince priebus described it as garbage. you hear from spicer unbelievable or in an instance

yesterday talking about something being 100% wrong or true. i never heard that kind of language out of any -- i think that kind of stuff is going to come back to hunt them. because nothing is ever 100% true. >> trump today attacked fbi on twitter. he attacked the fbi. tacked the fbi. he trying to -- being unable to idea who is being unable to leak -- "they cannot find the leakers been the fbi itself, classified information being given to media that could have devastating -- find now. by the way he is attacking leaking and fake news. if the leaks are real, they are

we are back with ann hornaday of the "washington post" rand ted johnson. he's going to give us best picture predictions for sunday. look at the top six categories, best picture, best director in the hour in main acting categories. what's the big surprise coming, ted? >> big surprise, i think denzel washington for best actor. people have been saying hey, it's going to be casey affleck, but washington won the sag award, that was a bit of a surprise for people and actors make up the biggest part of the academy branches so -- >> he's the meryl streep of the male side. he's already gotten two. >> yes, that's right. i think it may be setting some sort of a record. i'm sure there's a record in there he'll set. >> i know he got it for "training day." ann, what's the big surprise?

we were talking. >> i could see a scenario where the two front-runners for best picture are "la la land" and "moonlight" and i could see a scenario where that votes splits and "hidden figures" could sneak through because it's a beloved movie. people agree with you, chris. it's the one movie that over the holidays i recommended more than any just because it's just such an easy movie to love and it appeals to so many people. >> the way they did it, so tricky talking about race and ethnicity in this country but they found a way to make a movie mainly about african-americans which was so incluesive in the way it grabbed everybody that went to see it. it wasn't like a small movie. it was a big -- you have to go for these scenes, these scenes, these attractive people and the way the cop stops and you realize they're doing good stuff and he gets out of their way. he was not necessarily a good guy this cop but he became one. >> it does have this -- it's an old-fashioned popcorn movie you can take the kids to. >> i don't care if you're right wing -- well if you're nasty right wing don't see it. if you're a reasonable conservative -- >> it's impossible not to love this movie.
