good morning, everyone. it's monday, february 27th. i'm alex witt alongside ayman mohyeldin and alex burgdorf. we begin with the shocking hollywood ending everyone is talking about. the epic best picture blunder. last night's academy awards, possibly the worst in oscar history, when someone gave warren beaty, the i don't thiwre for the biggest prize of the night. >> and the academy award -- for best picture -- >> come on. >> "la la land." >> right after announcing "la la land" when the camera goes to the audience, you can hear a

confused warren beatty here say, it says emma stone. the accountant that certifies the oscar votes came running on stage. and that's when this happened. >> i'm sorry, no, there's a mistake. "moonlight," you won best picture. this is not a joke. this is not a joke. i'm afraid they read the wrong thing. this is not a joke. "moonlight" has won best picture. "moonlight," best picture. >> i would like to see you get an oscar anyway. why not hand out a bunch of them? >> i am very proud to give this to my friends from "moonlight." >> i'm going to tell you what happened. i opened the envelope, and it said "emma stone."
2:03 am
"la la land." that is why i took such a long look at you. i wasn't trying to be funny. >> well, the hollywood audience just as shocked as everyone at home as the filmmakers of "moonlight" take the stage to claim their prize. >> very clearly, even in my dreams, this cannot be true. but to hell with dreams, i'm done with it, because this is good. oh, my goodness. and i have to say, it is true, it's not fake. we have been on the road with these guys for so long. that was so gracious, so generous of them. my love to "la la land. request ". >> i don't know what to say. i'm not sure this is real, but thank you to the academy. it is very humbling to be up here. >> so the big question, how did warren beatty get a best actress of emma stone if she already won the award? one of them explained the
