napoleon. joining us from france. good to have you with us. we know the race was closely watched. not only in france, but also across europe. what did the win mean for the future of the european union. >> this is a big win. not just for france. not just for europe, but for the global community. of course emmanuel macron was the radical centrist. running on very much internationalist approach. the french people are behind the european union. marine le pen had run on a platform similar to brexit. similar to donald trump. called the donald trump of france. against the global sort of super national institutions. not just the european union and the euro. also nato. she wanted to re-evaluate france's position in nato. so emmanuel macron has made it very clear his policy is to improve france's economy and

that means improving the european union's economy. so he's seeing this, he's seeing france as not just a nationalist entity. it's not a france first sort of perspective. it's a europe first. he sees the improvement of europe as benefitting france. you saw last night when he walk out at the louvre and accepted the nomination. he walked out to the tune of ode to joy. in the crowd in front of him, tons of supporters who were waving french flags. mixed in one hundreds and hundreds of european union flags. if you can imagine, seeing flags from a super national entity with which the united states shared power, it would be almost unthinkable. so he's coming at this from a very, very proeuropean perspective.

things that i wish they said about michael flynn you know that he was a terrible force on the national security counsel. that he manipulated the president towards his own points of view. that he was dishonest. the list goes on and on and on. they're throwing him under the bus. then you have the president himself who is very not only reluctant to undermine flynn, but wanted a message scintillate last night. we accomplished a story about all of the white house back biting and the president himself was not happy about that story. wanted the message very clear that there's to be no undermining of mike flynn. >> jonathan, what do you see from michael flynn going forward. what the fallout for him. >> it's very unclear. he's not saying anything. his lawyer is handling it. his lawyer said publicly he wants immunity. people read things into that. i just think we're foolish to sort of say anything definitive about what he may or may not say

apart in the last couple of weeks were working at the same university, pyongyang university of science and technology. this is a new institution privately funded on the outskirts of pyongyang. that offers a western style education in english to the elite who have been chosen by the regime hand picked for this school. and this university was opened with the approval of the regime. so it's raising questions about how it is that both men who were working at this same place could both be detained on the same charges and accused of these crimes against the state. it's putting the spotlight on whether there's political information. get the united states into some sort of negotiation. why the trump level would feel obliged to send a high level to initiate talks. this has been the sort of thing that has happened in the past

with north korea. not unprecedent. the question is how much time it could take. could take weeks or months. of course a time of very high tension here. in relations between the u.s. and north korea. there's also been a lot of talk in the north korean media lately. state run news agency about espionage. just last week, they accused the u.s. and south korea of hatching a plot to assassinate kim jong-un. now we have another american who has been detained on espionage charges. not yet making the connection, but it's not going unnoticed by observers here. >> i think the real question here is really what is the object iive and is there more t come. janice, thank you. two people have been killed and eight others yird when a vigil turned deadly on chicago's south side. police say victims were at a memorial for a murder that occurred earlier that same day. two assail i can'ts emerged from
