a video of him from wrestlemania with the cnn logo superimposed over the person he's fight. the twitter handle shared the video making it part of the archived official record. cnn released a statement that read in part it's a sad day when the president of the united states encourages violence against reporters. he's involved in juvenile behavior far lowe the dignity of his office. despite president trump's previous comments including how he would like to punch a protester at a rally the white house deputy secretary made they comments just on thursday. >> the president in no way form or fashion has ever promoted or encouraged violence of anything. quite the contrary. >> speaking at president trump's

surrogate, he had this to say. >> my first reaction is the same as any of president's tweets. there's many cable shows that reach to viewers and they are not always fair to the president. i'm proud of the president for developing a twitter and social platform where he can talk direct try to the american people. he's the most genuine president and nonpolitician president we've seen in my lifetime and demonstrated whatever the contents with that particular tweet is or any tweet he's demonstrated an ability to talk to the people. >> is that the kind of communication you want that he's beating up on somebody, he's beating up on media. you're in charge of homeland security. that seems like a threat. >> certainly not. no one would perceive that as a threat. i think he's beaten up in a way on cable platforms, he has a right to respond to. >> and with that president trump spent much of his weekend tweeting about his distasteful

washington. joining us now the molly hooper. great to have you with us. let's talk a little bit about this. not all the health care surrogates are on the same page. here's a clip of secretary tom price talking with chuck todd about a repeal only option. >> is that your official stance now? is that an acknowledgement the senate bill is unworkable as it stands? >> we don't think so. we think leader mcconnell and his senators within the senate are working to try to get this piece of legislation on track. conversations are ongoing as we speak, and so we look forward to hopefully then coming back after this fourth of july recess, and getting the work done. >> we know how much as we played earlier in the show those clips from the president saying he'll only do repeal and replace. what's the current state of negotiations and what is leader mcconnell's -- what is he really considering here?

>> reporter: the current state involves, you know, reaching out to those more moderate senators who would like medicaid could be expanded -- to be expanded for its residents. and the state residents. also sweetening the deal with opioid money for senators like rob portman, and, you know, possibly allowing the senate to vote on an amendment offered by ted cruz that would -- that would allow each state to opt -- that would allow insurances to offer other plans that don't necessarily comply with the obamacare requirements as long as they offer a plan that does submit to those requirements. that said the repeal effort is more of a legislative, sort of a veiled threat to senators who voted in the pass for repeal only when, of course, they were in the minority -- they were in the majority but president obama

clearly was not going sign that at the time. >> over the weekend senator ben sass was advocating for repeal. >> if we can do a combined repeal and replace over the next week that's great. if we can't there's no reason to walk away we should do a repeal with a delay. i don't want to see anybody thrown off their coverage. the president should call on the senate to cancel our state work period. >> let's talk about that. >> let's cancel it. i don't have any plans. i look forward to working every day in august. it's holt here. >> he's talking about cancelling the august state period which means cancelling the august recess. >> exactly. >> i'm sure there's a lot of senators who don't want to do that. is there support for an extended session in august and do you think a repeal vote would get

support from senators? >> reporter: first i don't think the repeal only will get support from people because essentially what it would do even though ben sass says it would be a delay period there's not such a thing with a delay period. look at the budget control act and sequestration. that was supposed to be a time period by which members of the house and senate and president obama got together to find cuts in the budget and they didn't. every agency took across the board hit. but in terms of staying in for august recess, i think that if there is momentum and there's a deal coming together, if the senate sable to pass something slightly before august and it looks like the house and senate come together they will be in for a week or two but not the entire august. many senators go to hot spots around the world and these things have been planned for a while. >> president trump preparing to head overseas later this week to

attend the first g-20 summit and come face to face with vladimir putin. the sit down is expected to take place on friday. it's unclear if the president will bring up the allegations that moscow interfered with the u.s. elections. there was a report an operative tried to track down clinton's missing emails. peter w. smith is convinced that the 33,000 emails were thandse s of multiple russian hackers. one of the people smith has been accused of trying recruit, matt tate who laid out his interactions. tate wrote this, although it wasn't initially october dourd me how independent smith's investigation was, it was immediately apparent that smith was well connected to the top echelons of the campaign and

knew attorney general flynn and his son well. smith talked about the goings on at the top of the trump team offering deep insights. he went on the discuss research document he says smith sent him that listed senior members of the trump team. president trump spent part of his holiday weekend lashing out at the growing list of states that refused to turn over data to his commission investigating voter fraud. president tweeted out numerous states refused to give out information. what are they trying to hide? the commission asked the state for information including voters names, address, voting history and the last four digits of their social security numbers. more than 20 states including virginia, kentucky, california, new york and massachusetts have declined to provide some or all of the information saying it was unnecessary and violated

. welcome back, everybody. this morning authorities in arkansas continue to investigate a shooting that took place inside a crowded nightclub saturday morning in little rock, arkansas. more than two dozen people suffered gunshot wounds. >> the rapper who was performing has been arrested on unrelated charges. >> reporter: police in little rock still searching for the gunman who fired multiple rounds inside a nightclub. it was early saturday morning during a rap concert when the shooting began. [ gunshot ] >> i don't know who's shooting. i'm security. >> reporter: inside club goers struggled to find safety. >> the gun shots overruled everything. it was over 50 shots that went off in the club. i thought i would never get out. i was praying hoping i got out. >> reporter: 25 people suffered gunshot wound. three others were hurt trying to flee. investigators believe multiple shooters were involved.

focused on and that's in particular the media. we were talking about what republican officials have, in fact been saying. they called on the president to tone down his rhetoric. my question to you given what we saw this weekend, another round of tweets against cnn how are members of his party reacting to that disturbing tweet? >> reporter: not favorably. this is following a few weeks ago we had a shooting on a baseball field, a practice field in northern virginia targeting members of congress. you know, the whole situation right now going up on capitol hill is one of anger and frustration, and the inability to sort of speak with people civilly. for these type of tweets to come out it really -- you know they've not been received favorably by fellow republicans. >> molly, we got some interesting stats for you. "usa today" took a look at what the president has been

mentioning on twitter since he was elected last november. they found 73 mentions of fake news, 46 of obamacare, 41 of health care and 41 for taxes but he's not putting a lot of attention to his top policy issues. veterans and vets, they received only nine mentions. border wall has a handful of mentions and nafta just three. what do you think the impact here is along with the messaging and the president's agenda going forward? >> reporter: well, it's easy to beat up on the media. politicians take swipes at us all the time. and, you know, we're about as liked as attorneys and members of congress. so, you know, let's be honest. our rating is not that great. however, when it comes to these other issues, it's tough because the president wants to move a lot of this legislation that's just not happening. he hasn't been able to sign a piece of legislation, a

signature piece of legislation yet. still working on the health care bill. and, you know, last week during the whole hub bub over the msnbc tweets some say president trump might be doing this as a distraction, distract him away that congress has sent him a bill to sign. so, that's a possibility. but, again, going back to that issue of, you know, when he does send these inflammatory tweets he ticks off people like susan collins, a republican from maine and other moderates who are key votes when it comes to thaerlt bill who are not for it right now but those tweets don't do anything to engender support from them for other legislation. >> thanks for joining us this morning. millions are flocking to the beach through the fourth of july holiday as you can expect but in

new jersey state parks and beaches are shuttered unless, of course, you're the governor. today marks the third day of a government shutdown with state officials like the dmv and courts closed and tens of thousands of state workers set to be furloughed. the state assembly speaker, a democrat is blocking a vote because he believes it's bad policy. now he's derided the shutdown as the governor's hostage crisis. >> if they sent me a budget today the shutdown would be over. it is the legislature that's choosing not to send either budget. i'm frustrated quite frankly at this point that no one will send me any budget. i'm sitting here waiting for a budget and no one will send me one. i quoted that great american philosopher wimpy from the popeye cartoons, i would be glad to pay you tomorrow for a hamburger tomorrow. if i'm getting a hamburger i'm

paying for it today. i won't do it sometime of the summer. the governor was on the beach briefly today talking to his wife and family before heading in to was to. he didn't get any sun. murray added he had a baseball hat on. governor called 0 for a special session that gets under way at 10:00 a.m. today to reach a deal. once the most popular governors in the country he's seen his popularity crater. his approval rating has sunk to 15% and it's the worst approval rate forge any governor in any state by quinnipiac university in more than 20 years. new york city mayor bill de blasio announced he'll reverse course and allow the state to pay for his outstanding legal bills. the mayor revealed he'll get the city to cover $2 million for work done in response to investigations that related direct try to my public service and decision-making in government. de blasio originally rejected the idea of using taxpayer money to cover those costs. he should use his own money to

avoid the appearance of conflict of interest. the mayor is allowed to use city funds to pay any legal bills related to his government work. he and his aides came under investigation for a number of activities including allegations of pay to play and possible violations of campaign fundraising rules. federal and state prosecutors revealed in march they would not file criminal charges, although they raised questions about the ethics of some of the mayor's actions. let's talk about business. the minimum wage across the country beginning the rise. cnbc joins us live from london with a look at that. we're looking at the start of july. a lot of communities like chicago and los angeles are seeing higher wages. but it's not without controversy. >> reporter: we got los angeles raising its minimum wage to $12 from previously $10.50 for

companies employing more than 26 employees. minneapolis is joining. city council voted to raise its minimum wage to $15. but you talked about that controversy. there's a new report about the effect of hire minimum wages in seattle which raised its minimum wage to $13 in january 2016. the increase according to that research led to a steep decline in employment for low wage workers and drop in hours for those who kept their jobs. there's a lot of chatter in the tech world this morning about a potential ipo from cloud storage company drop offs. that's george a number of reports which say that the company has been talking to banks about under writing a potential ipo. if it goes ahead that's the biggest floatation for a tech company since snap earlier this year. the stock snap has now fallen below the offer price of $17. last but not least auto sales for the month of june and it's not expected to look that great.

welcome back. president trump is preparing to head overseas later this week as he prepares to attend the first

g-20 summit of his presidency. >> all eyes will be on that face to face meeting between him and vladimir putin. national security adviser revealing the sit down between leaders set to take place on friday. joining us from london to talk more about this, matt. obviously a floft cuss will be anthony meeting between president trump and vladimir putin. what are the two expected to talk about? >> reporter: well as you mentioned h.r. mcmaster national security adviser wasn't able to offer any specifics not just on the topics but teen venue. still unclear whether this meeting is an informal on the sidelines of this larger conference or actually have some formal setting where they will sit down and discuss with all trappings of diplomacy. h.r. mcmaster was unable to specific the exact topics that will be broached.

at the same time there's a lot these two leaders can discuss. ukraine, north korea, international sanctions that involve russia. the united states or the white house was unable to prevent the senate from imposing a fresh round of sanctions on russia and a lot of these issues are sthaustuff that the two leaders agree on. the main issue is syria. recently united states shot down a syrian jet and that prompted months do you say that they would consider any u.s. warplane in western syria to be a viable target. that's a major uptick in rhetoric but it's something we can expect those two try to iron over. at the same time we have to be this isn't the only confrontation that donald trump can expect in hamburg. he could be running into angela merkel who is expected to confront him on environment and tens of thousands of protesters squaring off with police officers in what could be a very violent confrontation right as
