priorities, tax reform, daca, fiscal deadlines, the president discussed adding something else to congress's plate. >> one thing we're looking at very strongly is welfare reform. that's becominge ining a very b subject. people are taking advantage of the system and other people aren't receiving what they need to live and we think it's very unfair to them. some people are really taking advantage of our system from that standpoint and we are going to be looking very, very strongly there at welfare reform. very big topic under this administration. >> president trump compared his performance to another president yesterday. expectations for passing tax reform this year. here's what he said. >> i would like very much to see it be done this year. we won't go a step further. don't forget, it took years for the reagan administration to get taxes done.

conference was to sort of show the harmony between the white house and mcconnell. do you buy it? do people out there buy it? >> they've been friends for a long time. this is what they were both saying. it's not something we've seen previously. people who are covering them have not seen a friendship there. it's less an alliance than a temporary ceasefire. they need to get a budget passed. they want to move on tax reform. trump can't get anything in the senate without obama. he's saying i'm ready to work with you. >> certainly to work with him, he's got to have some sort of cooperation on items they're trying to get done. listed a whole list of issues and topics. one of the things the president also added was the issue of welfare reform. the question now really is do you think the president and mitch mcconnell can actually get these things done. is capitol hill taking the administration seriously or do

family that spoke out against him at the democratic convention. this is different than just normal politics. talking about the families of people who have lost people serving this country. it's different than a little jab. it's something people remember a little bit longer. >> speaking of war heros, let's talk about john mccain yesterday. obviously accepting the award at the national constitution center liberty metal. he also took some harsh words at president trump in his speech. i'm curious to get your thoughts on how the republican party, republican establishment looks at those comments that come out of somebody like john mccain, decorated war hero. when he comes out and really takes aim at the way the president is conducting and carrying out his foreign policy. >> so this is the way the republicans until recently typically spoke about foreign policy. it's all about american leadership, setting an example for the world.

that's not how donald trump talks about foreign policy. he talks about america first. i think the instincts of many people on capitol hill is more on mccain's side this is a fight they probably don't want to get in the middle of. no real winning for them for either calling out a war hero for critique of the president or criticizing a sitting republican president who is popular with the people voting in the primaries sgls yprimary s. >> you heard ayman earlier. also in the rose garden and giving a very different take on it. how do you think the president can straddle the two agendas. >> this is going to be fascinating next year in the primaries. we saw bannon versus mitch mcconnell in alabama. trump ended up on losing side of the primary race. he sounds like he's going to
