people just kind of tuning it out saying you know what, let's focus on the issues and get between the feud of mccain and president trump? >> we should remember trump has been feuding with mccain for two years ago since trump said mccain wasn't a war hero. i think mccain's feud with trump has made it easier for some some senators, bob corker and ben sass, to have their feuds with trump. most of them kind of just swallow their pride. >> thanks, daniel. >> thank you. earlier this year a federal judge in hawaii has once again blocked president trump's travel

bl ban. it kept some while lifting restricts on sodan. it also blocked the issuance of all visas from north korea, suspended all visas as well as nonimmigrant visas and tourist visas for chad. in a ruling the judge says the ban which effectively denies entry to 150 million people, quote, suffers from the same abnormalities of a primitive ban -- noting the judge's ruling does not apply to the restrictions on venezuela or north korea, the white house immediately condemn what it calls a quote, dangerously flawed ruling. saying, quote, it under cuts the government's efforts to keep people safe and secures minimum standards for entry into the united states. the justice department also says it will appeal the decision. >> and major victory.

the coalition fighting isis has recaptured the syrian city of raqqah. >> reporter: the black isis flag was placed by the banner of -- the table was turned. u.s. backed forces in the same spot. there was some public cheering, too. but most people in this battered city are long gone. this was perhaps the most feared place on earth with frequent public executions. and it was a base for isis to plot terrorist attacks, including intelligence services say, on the theater in paris and the instnble airport as well as to hold and murder hostages

including american james foley. the city was freed by mostly kurdish forces helped by u.s. special ops and coalition air strikes. now with the u.s. city ofrock awe and mosul this summer, the isis territory has shrunk from the size of virginia to a few scattered areas. >> isis still maintains an ability to launch smaller scale attacks, but i think their future as a large scale fighting force will largely end with the fall of raqqah. >> meanwhile in gauafghanistan, least 74 people are dead. civilians, officials, police are among those killed. several hundred people also wounded. afghanistan's deputy and interior minister says, quote, it is the biggest terrorist attack this year.

opener and the cleveland cavaliers hosting the boston celtics. just five minutes into the boston debut, celtics forward hayward goes down and comes down horribly. the reaction from the players of both teams says it all. he was taken off in a stretcher. he suffered a dislocated ankle and a fractured tibia. ouch. the game itself was a game of two halves. the celtics charged outof the halftime gate in the third. but in the end boston could not pull off the come back there. the calves go onto win that one 102-99. the gold state warriors hosting the rockets. rockets up one in the closing seconds here. and warriors superstar kevin durant hits the baseline jumper. but not so fast.

top stories for you. two senators have struck a bipartisan deal to fund two policies tied to obamacare. it includes features that fund the subsidies through 2019, lets people age 30 and over catastrophic coverage and puts plans back into promoting obamacare enrollment. while president trump has praised the deal white house officials stress it is not endorsing the deal. meanwhile, the white house trying to tamp the up roar about the president trump's comments about the four u.s. troops in niger. nbc news has learned that the president allegedly told the family of the sergeant la david david that he knew what he signed up for. and a federal judge in hawaii has once again blocked president trump's latest travel ban which was set to take effect today. the judge says the ban, quote,

suffers from the same anomalies as the previous ban. the justice department says it will appeal it. all right, so the da speaking out after its exkploesive report that its agents were handcuffed by a law that made it difficult to go after an opioid epidemic spiralled out of control. according to "the washington post" 60 minutes report, the law actually weakened the market for drug distributors from flooding the market with addictive opioids. yesterday the da pushed back. >> i should assure you that although it may have been more charlging as any kind of legislation or policy sometimes hasinate affect, we will find other ways to do our jobs. i want people to understand we did not stop doing what we were supposed to be doing at the da.

>> says he quote, took a pass on the offer because of the perception of a conflict of interest. a primary former russian oligarch is claiming that russia most likely colluded with the trump campaign leading up to last year's prejudice election and is shining the light between a top russian banker and jared kushner. spoke exclusively with msnbc's ari melber. including his former head of human resources sergei gorkov. gorkov who now runs a kremlin bank which has been accused of providing cover for russian spies met with jared kushner in december of last year during the prejudice transition. in his conversation he suggested that banker would not have been acting alone in that meeting and

subpoenaed carter page. adding he's expected to invoke his fifth amendment right and actually refuse to skr questions. in an e-mail page says he plans to testify but is asking to do it in public on november 1st. page who has repeatedly denied inappropriate ties to russia and he did nothing wrong during the trump campaign did not confirm or deny he has been served with a subpoena. >> and there was some back and forth bickering between two top republicans. senator rand paul accused john mccain and lindsey graham on busting the budget camp for more spending. about an hour and a half later senator graham tweeted, getting more bad info, rand paul. you already saved obamacare by

white house comment earlier in the week. >> he's made this big push of having challengers to every republican incumbent and having his own candidates and every senate race and lots of house and governor races as well. but he's actually picking some people who use the establishment resources, who are working with the nrsc, and top republican polling firms. so he's not exactly going after renegades every time. so this bannon imerture is going after people who are probably going to vote for mcconnell as leader, too. it's kind of a big show of backing these insurgents every time. >> first, let's talk about alabama there. a new fox poll of the rights state has doug jones neck and neck with roy moore.

what's happening there? >> i think two things are happening. moore is not getting a lot of support of the establishment of the republican party there. they view him as kind of out there. and he's not getting a lot of moderates. and i think doug jones is viewed as a reasonable choice in the eyes of a lot of those state's voters. and so that is weighing down on republican chances. if luther strange who bannon referenced, if he was the candidate now, he'd be blowing jones out of the water. he'd be easily re-elected. >> and let's flip the script in virginia. in that poll it shows gillaspie is actually leading. he had been actually trailing at some point. when kind of impact do you think a loss would have for democrats in a state that had been for some time trending their way. >> it'd be a big morale loss for

virginia. they know the state is changing, but it's not changing rapidly enough demographically. there's been some polls that showed raffle northam up a little bit. we should note that both candidates are pretty bland. and northamis not really a good campaigner. democrats are going to have to pour millions of dollars to have their candidate stand a chance. >> thank you. turning now to the middle east where in a major victory the u.s. led coalition fighting isis has recaptured the syrian city of roaqqah. it comes after months of brutal and devastating fighting there. and after the victory of isis's defeat in mosul over the summer, u.s. backed forces have now captured almost all of the

terror groups territory in all of the region. describe for us just how big of a defeat this is in the fight against isis worldwide and specifically against terrorism in general. >> well, there's no doubt this is a significant turning point in the war against isis and perhaps even in conventional military terms, its end. now the city forces were freed by kurdish forces led by u.s. special ops. there's still fighters hiding in tunnels. but in terms of holding territory, this was the last major isis strong hold. they do still have some border towns in between iraq and sear kbluch they are expected to fall. mosul was very much the largest city the group has eld in terms of population. but raqqah was seen as a sign of

power. without raqqa, without mosul, this was was a major loss. isis still has the ability to launch attacks. the groups might have lost territory, but the extremist ideology live on. whether it's insecurity, ethnic grievances. and in the west we've seen unfortunately that the mere idea of isis has often been enough to compel deranged individuals, for example, to plow cars into innocent people. so today we are talking about a major military victory, but there is still a long road ahead in fighting that edaelg. >> and not to mention you had the thousands of fighters fighting for isis now starting to return back to their home countries and could pose a security challenge. still ahead, a security shop of a mass shooter breaks his

this river of moisture comes off of china here through japan. you can see the clouds here, a couple of big storms. and this huge storm right now up in alaska. a little sliver of this is going to make it into northern california. it's not a big blockbuster event for northern california. it's at least a start, and that's what we want. there it is in portland, goose bay, and there it is in northern california. this is 8:00 p.m. thursday, finally getting a decent amount of rain. unfortunately it's not going to go back down to the areas where we had the big fires. so the rainfall totals highest up in the mountains, of course,inate cascades we could get up to 5 to 10 inches of rain. northern california here, that's only about a quarter of an inch. and also portions in the siera
