quashing the idea of special election of any sorts. where do washington republicans stand on this issue now. do you think it's just a matter of, you know, waiting to see if moore wins and actually trying to expel him? we know mitch mcconnell would face an ethics investigation immediately upon win fg ning, i does win. >> we know shortly after "the washington post" story accomplished. lawyers associated with the national party were kind of scrambling to figure out could he be removed from the ballot. i talked to one republican close to senate leadership yesterday and that source told me there aren't a lot of options without cooperation from governor ivy or president trump. as the package noted, the president said that he believed moore should step down if the allegations are true, but he did say -- white house press secretary sanders said yesterday

that you know, he is up to alabama voters at this point. there really slis a divide betwn national and will state parties. who don't want to see roy moore as a u.s. senator. talked to a number of senators this week who acknowledged there's not much we can do if he's refusing to step aside as republican nominee. up until yesterday, there was the option that the state party could disqualify him at the nominee. the steering committee met wednesday night for a couple of hours. and the state party chairman met issued a statement yesterday saying they're sticking by moore. >> let me ask you about the other side of the aisle in terms of sexual misconduct. those are the allegations against senator al franken. given what we've learned this week about the prevalence of sexual harassment on capitol hill, i think congress woman jackie spear saying something like $15 million has been paid out to claimants of staffers.

should we expect to see more sto stories coming out of members of congress. she said there were two members of congress that had claims against them at one point filed. >> yes, certainly feels like there's just muore to come when it comes to this story. especially the senator franken coming out yesterday. appears to be a pretty big problem on capitol hill. did a survey of congressional staffers over the summer. 4-10 women staffers told role call they think sexual harassment was a problem on the hill. 1-6 women experienced some form of sexual harassment. this is going to be an ongoing issue. we've seen pieces of legislation trying to address how this is addressed on capitol hill. we'll have to keep watching that to see how that progresses. with congresswoman spear mentioning there are current members who could be facings allegations, feels like more to

come. >> as besting to see if they ask for a wider ethics investigation. let me ask you about president trump for a moment. he's obviously faced his own allegations of sexual assault and misconduct. he hasn't said much about roy moore. he said wait and see what the voters do. it's up to them kind of stuff. he hit big time against al franken on twitter. what is your reaction to that? is he at risk of going just after al franken because he's a democratic and not going after roy moore. >> you could certainly see some democrats criticizing the president for that. at this point, we haven't seen too much reaction to the president's tweets last night. it was interesting though, kind of puts republicans in an interesting position. this week senate majority leader mitch mcconnell was asked at his weekly press conference, you say you believe the women who are accusing roy moore, do you believe the women who accused the president of sexual harassment and he didn't directly answer the yes.

said we're talking about alabama. i'm going to take questions on that issue instead, but certainly puts republicans in an a tough position of having to answer those questions once again. and yeah, we'll have to see how they knanavigate that. >> certainly exposed double variety of standards. thank you for joining us this morning. late last night the senate finance committee passed version of tax overhaul repealing the obama mandate. earlier in the day house passed version along a party line vote. bill could tcut taxes. major victory for president trump who visited capitol hill before the legislation was brought to the floor. assured house republicans he was behind their effort. and predicted skeptical senators could come around. the pressure is on the senate whose bill differs from the house version. house speaker paul ryan had this to say at a press conference

in light of this conversation, we should have a very different conversation about president trump and very different conversation about allegations against him. as the times notes, long standing ties to the clinton family and now occupies the senate seat once held by hillary clinton. after president trump dodged questions about his support for roy moore from reporters on wednesday, yesterday, white house press secretary sara huckabee sanders said the president found the allegations troubling, but said trump would lead the decision to support moore up to alabama voters. take a listen. >> the president believes that these allegations are very troubling and should be taken seriously. and he thinks that the people of alabama should make the decision on who the next senator should be. these are something that should be taken very seriously and the

people of alabama should be the ones to make the decision on whether or not to support roy moore. the president supported the decision by the rnc to withdraw resources from this race, but feels it's up to the people of alabama to make the decision. look, as i've said, the president believes this is a decision for the people of alabama to make, not one more him to make. >> wait and see approach. thursday afternoon, moore held a press conference with religious leaders where he railroad against senate majority leader mitch mcconnell. >> this is an effort by mitch mcconnell and his cronies to steel this election from the people of alabama and they will not stand for it. i want to tell you who needs to step down, that's mitch mcconnell. >> and when asked about allegations of sexual misconduct, moore refused to answer and abruptly left with his wife. >> meanwhile cay ikay ivey.

jones has picked up steam in the last couple of weeks. new fox news poll, jones leads moore by eight points among likely voters in that state. poll also shows 78% of republicans likely voters say they would vote for moore while 13 pgt s 13% say they would vote for jones. jones is doing well among women voters. 58% said they will vote for jones. 32% said they will vote for moore. 69% of women voters under 45 and 51% of women over 45 said they will back jones in next month's elections. a lot of numbers to break down. what this means. bring in vaughn i know it's been exhausting, but what's the latest how things are playing out there given all the developments yesterday. >> vaughn hill yayard.

that's what everyone is seeing in the press. there is no conversation about the issues despite roy moore suggesting at the press conference yesterday he had not received any questions of the press about issues of substance, which to note, he hasn't done an interview since that sean hannity interview now more than a week ago. the press conference devolved yesterday. about 20 faith leaders there speaking on his behalf. essentially coming out and defending the man. defending his honor and delegitimizing these women and their stories. we are now up to nine with four come can go out over the last 48 hours. simultaneously while that press conference is taking place in birmingham, down here in mum, one of top strat skbregist was holding a separate meeting down here. today the war begins. they are making this of them against the accusers against

democrats against mitch mcconnell against everyone except themselves. it's an interesting campaign to be watching right now. >> i like the fact you said 27 days. hang in there vaughn, you're almost there. vaughn hillyard, thank you. back with us again. bridgette. great to have you back with us. let's talk about the accusations emerging on the other side of the aisle. those against al franken. what are you hearing from capitol hill in terms of how it's moving forward. what are the next steps we can expect. >> sewer, so the reaction from capitol hill was pretty swift and condemning the recent allegations. i think the fact that senate majority leader mitch mcconnell and senate minority leader chuck schumer have both called for ethics investigation. all, but guarantees the ethics committee is going to look into

this. this proceeding can take a little while. that would involve an investigation into the allegations, a hearing, and some sort of recommendation in terms of what the senate should do next. whether that be expulsion or some other action. we're hear pretty swift democrats as well calling for an ethics investigation too. >> let's switch gears a moment and talk about taxes. yesterday was a big day for taxes of victory for president trump. passing their version of the tax reform bill. you have reporting on the republicans who actually voted against this. tell us about those members. why they voted no and what we can expect the fallout from within the republican party to be for them. >> sure. there were 13 republican who is voted against the house bill. all, but one of them were from high tax states like california, new york, and new jersey. their main issue where the bill was repeal of state and local tax deduction. that was something we heard from a number of members from those

states. there is some concern that this could have some political ramifications. congressman peter king who is a republican from new york said earlier this week that this could cause us to lose all the republican seats in the northeast. that obviously remains to be scene, but we're seeing here that could also be an issue as the bill moves forward. and we're going to have to really watch what happens to this issue when it goes to conference as well. interestingly enough, we see democrats criticizing even republicans who voted against the bill. >> yes. >> in some of these districts too. this will certainly be an issue in 2018. >> be interesting to see how it plays out. given the fact he's vest instead this. rallying support for this tax bill. bi thank you so much for joining us. thanks for having me. >> up against a new congressional deadline. asking for missing documents related to russia and wikileaks back in 2016. according to politico, letters

from senators grassley and feinstein states the production of documents related to the investigation appears to have been incompletely. state the other witnesses have handed over documents on which kushner was copied and he never turned them in himself. they point to two examples. a september 2016 e-mail communication to curb concerning wikileaks that he forwarded to another campaign official. and documents concerning a quote, rush backdoor overture and dinner invite he failed to hand over. lawyer responded in the statement to politico, we provided the judiciary committee with all relevant documents that had to do with mr.contacts or mh russians during the campaign and transition. lawmakers want the missing material. here's what he said outside the white house in july after meeting with staff of the senate intelligence committee. >> since the first questions were raised in march, i've been consistent in saying i was eager

. welcome back, everyone. for the first time since 2017, china is sending a special diplomat for xi jinping. they are trying to represent their allie. it is not clear if, if's nuclear and ballistic missile programs will be on the agenda of those talks. joining us live, janice, it's great to have you with us. this obviously comes on the heels of president trump's visit and meeting in beijing with president xi. obviously, north korea was topic of discussion between those two world leaders. is this something that could have been a result of those talks or genuinely separate from the president's trip to xi jinping? >> reporter: the answer, i guess is both. after the 2007 and 2012

congresses here, a party went to pyongyang to greet the regime on the outcome of the congress. so it's fought unprecedented for them to send the an envoy, inevitably the nuclear problem will be discussed. i that will not be strong arming the regime. they believe concessions need to be made by both sides, north korea needs to freeze their activities. not outright nuclearization, despite the claim that president trump is now on side with. that it isn't. they still have a freeze for freeze position and if anything, we're seeing a shift is in how south korea is viewing the best way forward here. south korea having normalized relation is now acknowledging the difficulty of expecting north korea to surrender its nuclear program. it's obvious they have the
