the lawyers confirm he spoke with putin loyalist. played down the encounter. writing quote, donald trump jr. was attending nra convention and having dinner when an acquaintance asked him to say hello to torshin and made an introduction. that is the extent of communication or contact. the other issue connecting them is wikileaks. one source familiar with testimony said he specifically denied under oath that he was familiar with any attempts by wikileaks to contact the campaign, but a source tells nbc news two things that don junior e-mailed kushner about twitter conversations with wikileaks, now well known. that kushner forwarded e-mail about conversations with communications director hope hicks. senate judiciary committee says kushner failed to disclose that

communication as well. kushner's lawyer responded in a letter to the committee's chairman and ranking member saying client had no contacts with wikileaks and was along with others forwarded an e-mail from donald trump jr. that has been wildly reported and deseminated. also said kushner did not respond. joining me now from washington is political co-daniel litman. co-author of politico playbook. that is the senate race in alabama. at this point, when it comes to roy moore, would they rather you think deal with a democratic senator from alabama for a few years and avoid this headache or would they rather have him in there for the legislative wins they need to get done. >> i think they would rather have him drop out in the first place and have someone else -- have a write in candidate or have jeff sessions back in office. he was a reliable republican. he would do things that mitch

mcconnell would approve of. i think in this situation, they would rather him win and then they would force him out. expel him. then have a new appointment by the governor, then have a new special election. it's kind of a complicated process. that's mump more preferable than doug jones winning the democratic. >> it would be historic to have the first democratic state of the level candidate winning something like that in decades. other side of the aisle, we have democrats dealing with how to respond to allegations against senator al franken. says he's not going to resign. as congress looks to show that they are taking this problem of sexual assault seriously and not playing partisan politics with it, what's likely to happen here. what are you hearing is going to take place with this ethics committee investigation. so there's going to be

provision in republican tax plan taking aim at obamacare. speaking yesterday white house budget director mulvaney suggested while the administration wants to repeal mandate, open to dropping repeal from senate bill to make sure a final bill gets to president trump's desk which mulvaney says may take bending of the rules. >> we're using reconciliation so we only need 50 votes in the senate instead of #60. one of the ways to gain the system is to make things expire. bush tax cuts back in early 2000 did the same thing. if it's good policy, it will become permanent. if it's bad policy, it will become temporary. that's just the way it is. it's done to shoe horn the bill into the rules other than we think it's good policy. i don't think anybody doubts where the white house is on repealing and replacing obamacare. we absolutely want to do it.

if we can repeal part of obamacare as part of a tax bill and have a tax bill that is a good tax bill and pass, that's great. if it becomes an impediment to getting the best bill with committee, we're okay with taking it out. >> when asked if the current mandate was an obstacle, he said he didn't think so, but susan collins, a key vote on that bill, says she wants the repeal out of that legislation. >> can you vote for the bill that passed the senate finance committee. >> i want to see changes in that bill. and i think there will be changes. >> you can't vote for it as written. >> i haven't reached that conclusion yet because i think there are going to be further changes, but the biggest mistake was putting in a provision from the affordable care act into the senate bill that's not in the house bill. and i hope that will be dropped or that bills have been introduced by senator aaron hicks and murray and bill nelson

welcome back, everyone. the trump administration has been quietly facing scrutiny in the employment visa process, making it harder for employers to hire skilled foreign workers. joining us live from london, joumanna berchete, what can you tell us? >> the department of citizenship and immigration services about one in four h1b visas have been returned back, visas heavily

employed in the technology industry. two other changes coming up would prohibit spouses of h1b workers from getting a job in the united states and the other change would entail reducing the number of years that students in the science and technology sectors would be allowed to stay in the united states currently. that's at two years. let's switch a little bit to markets and talk about what the major focus for markets would be this week. clearly it's less about the data and all about shopping with black friday coming up. typically around two weeks of black friday, the retail sector does very well. going back to 2007, average gains about 5%, which tells you about the health of the consumer. let's see if it holds up again this year. all eyes on the passage and future of the tax reform now that it's gone through the house and whether or not it will change once it gets to the senate. >> nothing beats a black friday deal than being able to do it from the comfort of your home on

a laptop. 2017 in the next few weeks, goldman sachs offering a sunny outlook on what to expect for 2018. what might the global economy look like in this upcoming banking year? >> yes. goldman has said that 2017 has been a year where the global economy has beaten expectations and they expect to see more of the same going into twan and they see global growth of 4% for the year boosted by easing financial conditions and good momentum. they do see an 80% probability of tax reform getting passed in the u.s. and on back of that, they think that it will put the trump administration in a good position to renegotiate nafta. they also factored in four hikes of the f1c for next year. >> hopefully it will be a good report for everyone not just the 1%. joumanna, thank you. growing calls for republican senate roy moore to step down

regulators in nebraska will hold a vote today on keystone xl pipeline. they'll decide whether to approve a proposed in-state pipeline, last regulatory hurdle for that project. former president bill clinton heads to puerto rico today to get a firsthand look at hurricane recovery efforts there. he will meet with the governor along with the mayor of san juan. clinton foundation has been providing assistance to puerto rico and the former president will try to assess ongoing needs there. >> christmas comes a little early to the white house today. first lady melania will accept the christmas tree. the first lady traditionally accepts the christmas tree the day after thanksgiving but the president and first lady are expecting to spend the weekend
