figure as derogative insult. also some wondering why a portrait of andrew jackson was featured so prominently. dave, good to have you with us this morning. saw senator warren's response and sarah huckabee sanders defense of president's pocahontas comments yesterday. ones that are certainly going to be offensive to many. he's issued derisive nicknames for political opponents before. it's not something new. does this sound different. is it in any way different than what we've heard the president say in the past. not just about senator elizabeth warren. >> sure. little marco rubio is insulting to marco rubio. lying ted cruz is insulting to ted cruz. what native american leaders have said after this event, we consider pocahontas offensive to

all of us. it's taking that derisive figure as a catch all for all native american women. it's a different context, especially when you have that backdrop of world war ii heros there. i don't think -- there's nobody coming out besides sarah huckabee sanders and saying this was an appropriate thing for the president to say. let's talk tax reform. republican leaders saying they'll have a vote by the end of the week. do you think this is a realistic time frame considering all that needs to be worked out in order to win over the votes or is this optics for the gop wanting to get the needle moving. >> it's going to be tough to get it done by the end of the week. they definitely see the timeline as key. they want to keep the momentum, che keep it moving forward. the longer you delay the more concerns pop up. the problem is they have specific issues senators are raising that they need to fix in order to get them to yes. you mentioned the issue of how small businesses are treated as

opposed to korngscorporations. also some senator who is want deficit guarantee. if they build in fixes, can they reassure senators and get yes votes by the end of the week. seems pretty optimistic to me. with two weeks left in alabama senate race, roy moore made return to campaign trail after an 11 day absence. moore told voters that a campaign stop of allegations of sexual misconduct against him were falls and malicious. >> after 40 years of service for this state and this community, 50 if you count my military service to the country, never once has this been allegationed. now just two weeks remaining, pictures of young children whose names are not mentioned that i do not know appear conveniently on the opposition's ads.

that said, nothing to suggest roy moore is going to be running any different of a campaign in the final 14 days. essentially running out the clock. no access to the press. vehicle is suv slid into the back door there and got right out and walked inside. took no questions from the press. took no questions from the audience in attendance. refuted the allegations there for about 12 minutes. . and he propagated as just coming down to dirty politics. yesterday released a television ad calling it a scheme. he's clear that he's going to be focusing on the social issues. brought up abortion. transgenderism. there is no mention of jobs. no mention of health care outside of repealing obamacare. >> vaughn, let me ask you about looking ahead and doug jones as well. are we expecting to see the two of them, roy moore and doug jones, out campaigning today or what's on the agenda for them. >> reporter: doug jones has been campaigning every day. even out of thanksgiving.

doug jones will be out in tuscaloosa at a medical center talking about health care. at birmingham yesterday meeting with students. he's taken a press conference every single day. roy moore says he will not be out today, but expect to see him wednesday and thursday. touted he would have a ramped up schedule. isn't too tough to do after not being present at all. we'll see if that comes to fruition. you're down to just two weeks and you have two polar opposites in terms of how campaigns are being run down here. >> do you think they're honing in on the strategy last two weeks. a saw a poll that doug jones was up.8%. >> reporter: really tough to tell what the poll is going to

look at. you don't have party registration here. to what extent are they able to turn out black vote, young vote. looking at republican side. talking with the presbyterian minister down the road. he said he's part of a very conservative congregation. he can't fathom anybody voting for doug jones because of stance on ho on homo sexual assault and abortion. at the same time, there's a lack of confidence in the state. now you see the potential of a write in candidate. to what extent is doug jones able to profit after republican's unwillingness to go to the polls. we shall see.

during the election by the overwhelming support for the president and the fact he is sitting here in the oval office today. he has made his position on that clear at that time as have the american people in his support of him. john decker. >> apologized for it and seemed to acknowledge authenticity and that position hasn't changed. >> like i just said, the president has changed his position. i think if anything that the president questions its the media's reporting on that accuracy. >> i said he already addressed it. and that we didn't have any updates to that. i said what he didn't like and what he found troubling were the accounts that are being reported now. >> any access hollywood host also addressed the authenticity of the reporting yesterday. before ending the show, wanted to clear something up that has been reported across the media landscape. let us make this perfectly clear. the tape is very real. remember his excuse at the time was locker room talk.

for 40 years. they believe the roy moore they have known for decades. >> i wonder if the endorsement for president trump swayed the decision making within the campaign itself. coming off this morning, joe and mika will talk with retired mari mari marine colonel. the post reported later discovered the woman appeared to have ties to project, an organization that sets up undercovering sightings to expose that group saying is media biassed. during interviews, woman pressed reporters to entice her to speak out about her claims by asking what affect her allegations could have on moore's candidacy if she went public. "the washington post" did not plush an article based on her

accountable. >> thanks to casey hunt for that report. >> let's talk russia investigation. flynn signals a break from president trump and legal strategy last week. new report suggests things are moving swiftly. abc news reporting flynn's lawyer meant monday morning with members of special counsel mueller's team. we have not confirmed the report. declined comment to abc. when flynn was seeking immunity. his lawyer said general flynn has a story to tell and very much wants to tell it should the circumstances permit. speaking of hillary clinton, he says he believes receiving immunity is a sign of wrong doing. >> five people around her have had -- have been given immunity to include her former chief of staff. when you are given immunity, that means you probably commit add crime.

mueller began investigating the bureau's russia investigation. amid ongoing talk, rex tillerson's aides has resigned after three months on the job. the title who was counselor of the department was only appointed back on august 17 had been charged with tillerson's quote, redesign of the state department. the chief of staff has been named the replacement. comes amid bipartisan growing concern of the impact tillerson's plan which among other things has consistented of dramatic ical dramatically diminishing the staff. >> let's talk about rex tillerson. does he still have a base of support you think among conservatives who agree with what he's doing at the state department? i think the over/under for him staying bond the year are pretty low. >> rex tillerson does not have have more allies. part of that is his relationship

with president trump has been more or less not severed, but strained. people are less likely to come out and support him when they think he doesn't have the preside president's blessing and he probably won't be around long. republicans who care a lot about foreign policy are people who spoke in support of fashion for tillerson for most of his tenure, but they're concerned about the state department as well. >> dave, let's talk about the president heading to the hill to meet with congressional leaders to work out a deal on the spending bill. try to avoid a government shutdown. looming here. republicans for this, at least. not tax reform needing the democrats to work with them on this to avoid a government shutdown. deadline of course december 8. what's the likelihood we're going to see short-term plan that pushes that deadline to christmas and how real do you think the threat of the government shutdown is. >> republican leaders want a longer deal. they wanted a longer deal last time.

none of us expected the three months ago president trump would come out and say i like the chuck and nancy plan. we're going to do a three month extension. this time around, they want to push this issue back off through next fall. now, in order to do that, they might have to give the democrats something. daca is really at the top of the wish list for pelosi and schumer. might not get this this time around. trump is going to have to offer them something if he's going to go along with the republican plan to push it to next year. >> definitely have to wait and see what happens. still ahead, the political battle now turned into a legal one over who is in charge of the consumer financial protection bureau with two people laying claim to the job. plus bill karins is back with us. he's going to have details on how a big warmup for some will give way too much colder temperatures.

1963. joining us live. good to have you with us. what sort of danger are the people stranded near this volcano facing. they're also trapped in the sense they can't get off of bali pretty easily now. >> well, a full eruption could be a danger to those living around the volcano. as you pointed out, a previous eruption was deadly killingpeop. authorities are praying for people to evacuate around an area near the volcano t. disaster agency raised its warning to its highest level and they've expanded the exclusion zone. lava continues to pool in the crater in what is the island's highest volcano, but it's not just locals trying to avoid danger. nearly 60,000 people are currently affected by the airport closure. people on bali as well as people trying to fly to the island. it's for safety as it continues to send this massive ash cloud into the air some 10,000 feet
