bottom and success eludes him for years. >> here's a guy from kentucky, sleeping on a friend's couch, trying to make his way in hollywood. he's a small town guy. >> he had been in a punch of pilots, all of which had failed. people talk about that as if clooney wasn't that good. if you keep getting pilot deals at a network it means they know you're a celebrity and they're waiting to the find the right thing for you. >> a decade after he moves there, the city erupts in violence. the lessons learned from his father in kentucky are not lost on clooney in l.a. >> i got my friends, i said, let's go buy some brooms and buckets and go down and help put out some fires. i think that was the first sort of real sense of where you can rally some troops together and get a lot of people and they'll show up. i thought that was important. >> after the riots subside,
