it so far. a bipartisan group of senators, an illinois democrat, dick durbin struck a deal on immigration. they said they would provide a decades long path for citizenship for those in the daca program and those eligible to apply authorized $2.8 billion for border security and the border wall, required green card holders become citizens. granted, durbin took the proposal to the white house where the post reports they were surprised to find immigration hard liners such as congressman goodlatte. >> miller was concerned there could be a deal proposed that was too liberal and made sure they were present.

when discussing the african countries, several sources briefed on the meeting said president trump said, quote, why are we having all these people from s-hole countries coming here. trump suggested the united states should bring people from countries such as norway, whose prime minister he met with on wednesday. a democratic aide confirmed the language. they tell nbc trump said, quote, why do we need more haitians, take them out. someone else responded because if you do, it will be obvious why. the white house did not deny the comments. certain washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but president trump will always fight for the american people. the president will only accept an immigration deal that addresses the lottery system and changes migration, two programs

that hurt our economy and allow terrorists into the country. >> the white house previously denied race was a factor in immigration policies three weeks ago. they rejected a report about a june 17 meeting in the oval office of how many immigrants received visas. haiti sent 3,000 people and they quote, all have aids. 40,000 have come from nigeria. once they had seen the united states, they would never go back to their huts in africa. the numbers were provided by stephen miller who, in august, took offense to the suggestion race had any influence on the immigration policies as he defended to slash green cards and favor english speakers. >> trying to engineer the racial and ethnic flow of people in the

is seen by the president of the united states to have this racial of ethnic ting to it when he is putting people in two categories. how can you say they are not policies based on superiority? >> we have another story i want to get your reaction to, but let's brief our viewers. lawmakers in the house were going to send a bill to conduct foreign surveilness on u.s. soil over the legislation. it was prompted by president trump. the house voted to renew the board authority to monitor communications by terrorists and foreign adversary communications under the surveilness act. the vote came after the house rejected an amendment to place minimums on the ability to involve american citizens. >> after 7:30, ahead of the vote, the president tweeted house votes on fisa act, this is
2:07 am
the act that may have been used with the help of the phony dossier to abuse the trump campaign by the previous administration and others. the tweet came after the white house strongly urged lawmakers to reject the amendment, put those limits on tapping communications by americans following the president's tweet, he and house speaker paul ryan spoke on the phone after that conversation. the president tweeted this, with that being said, i have personally directed the fix to be unmasking process. since taking office and the vote is about foreign surveillance and foreign bad guys on foreign land, we need it, get smart. >> wilet's go back to you guys. do you think the president was sending a confusing message with contradictory tweets, first supporting it and saying he wants it with that amendment?
2:08 am
>> yes, that was absolutely confusing. how we are seeing the s-hole comment has an impact on what diplomats can do abroad, this has an impact on how legislatures are going to the floor deciding, are we passing a bill that this leader of the majority party believes and agrees with? it makes it difficult to do their job. this is coming from a president watching tv. on fox news, yesterday morning, before this tweet, it was described this was used for the trump tower wiretap, which is untrue. he started to see it through that prism and through the prism of the campaign. this is an authority people use to stop terrorists. it's someone who ran on a very hard, national security platform, someone willing to instate a travel ban for the reasons of national security. seems counter intuitive he wouldn't go with the tool used by people and the intelligence
