an appeal but a jumg if in california. the same judge ruled that lawsuits against the daca order can prove to seek discrimination on president trump's past comments about latinos. president trump tweeted daca is reasonable dead because the democrats don't really want it. they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our military. >> i do not believe daca is dead, but what i would say is from my perspective, of course, from the department of homeland security, it's not a daca deal. it's an immigration deal. we must ensure we don't end up here again, ensure these temporary populations are not encouraged to take the journey to get here, but when they do get here, we are able to quickly remove them so we don't end up with daca again.

lindsay graham of south carolina spoke up and made it a direct comment on what the president said. >> so shortly after that on friday, republican senator lindsey graham put out a response which read in part, quote, following comments by the president, i said my piece directly to him had yesterday. the president and all those attending the meeting know what i said and how i feel. i've always believed in america is an idea not defined by its people but by its ideals. will also on friday, republican senator tim scott told the charleston post courier that graham told him the comments as reported in the po media were basically accurate. and republican jeff flake tweeted that the comments were made to him directly following the meeting. however, two republicans in the meeting, david purdue and tom cotton issued this comment, quote, we do not recall the president saying these comments specifically, but what he did call out was balance in our

reportedly on track to remove 1 million immigrants in the next two years. that includes hundreds of thousands of d.r.e.a.m.ers, haitians and others from central america who have lived in the u.s. legally in some cases for decades under temporarily protected status plans that the administration is now ending. in an interview yesterday, kirsten defended the comments. >> i take a little bit of offense to the comments and the suggestions that the president is racist. what he's looking at is the exact merit-based system we have in australia and canada and i'm sure we're not suggesting australia and canada and their leaders are racist. >> but the president seems to be suggesting you'd rather have a janitor from norway than a doctor from haiti.

had only 15 government seats. now they have over 13 in play from the republican side. so they're hoping to get a lot of the seats in place this year. even with the comments last week, that makes it much harder for a republican on the republican side to get elected if the party is represented by someone who makes those type of racist remarks. >> let's talk daca here with the deadline looming and all. the president, as we know, going back and forth on daca most recently over the weekend saying a deal is, quote, probably dead because of the democrats. but there is a bipartisan group of senators trying to get this done. what do make of all of it? >> i think the president's comments made negotiating much, much harder because you have

lack of trust when you have senators on both sides of the aisle accusing each other of lying. that makes it harder to make a deal. but i think both sides recognize that a deal is in everyone's interests. very few people want all of these d.r.e.a.m.ers supported. when you hear the department of homeland security director say daca dead, you have to believe there's some truth. officials in hawaii are blaming human error after an emergency alert was mistakenly sent out saturday morning. the alert was sent at 8:07 a.m. local time with the message this is not a drill. it took 38 minutes for a correction to be sent out, despite officials saying they knew within minutes that there was month threat.

at a press conference, hawaii's governor said a single individual sent out the alert by mistake. >> it was a procedure that occurs at the change of shift where they go through to make sure that the system is working. and an employee pushed the wrong butt withon. >> a spokesperson for hawaii's emergency management agency tells "the washington post" the employee has been temporarily reassigned, but there are no plans to fire him. the agency a has now put into place a verification process. the fcc has launched an investigation. >> the fact that these processes failed so epically that caused this trauma that caused this terror all across the state of hawaii must be fised immediately and those responsible for this happening need to be held accountable in making sure that

tomorrow. so winter weather advisories, 45 million people. this is where the snow has fallen or is falling. st. louis, indianapolis, columbus, during the day today. eventually this will head into areas of east. that's why massachusetts is now under a winter storm watch. here is the radar. about an inch on the ground snowing in areas, all of ohio, now the snow is shift doing through missouri. again, it's a slow mover. usually clippers you associate with a fast-moving storm. light snow through the ohio valley. pittsburgh by 11:00 p.m., slight light snow for you, western new york, too. that's not a big deal. it's been snowing all winter here. memphis, you get another winter event. northern portions of mississippi. by the time we get through tuesday, that snow moves through areas of pennsylvania and upstate new york. tuesday night into wednesday, that moves into the northeast. as far as snowfall totals go, the white is one inches, blue is

also people like christian gillibrand after that trump tweet that amped up her profile as a leader of the resistance and remember, gillibrand used to be a moderate person, but she's seen the tea leaves. >> let me ask you about something that always comes up when we talk about the democrats taking control of the house later on, possibly even the issues in the senate. that's the issue of impeachment. is there a concern ta thhat tha kind of talk could back fire? >> i think even a lot of republicans, if you put them on truth serum, they would be less imposed to impeachment that you

might think. democrats would be wise this year to not talk about that. they don't have control of any house of congress. so very few lawmakers would want to talk about this issue. but a lot of democratic activists, they want to impeach trump if democrats take the house. they think that, you know, trump has violated the norms of office with taking foreign money for his hotel. and also his behavior as president. this is a 7-year-old guy that people have raised questions about mental fitness when he is comparing his nuclear button with kim jong un and whether he even has a relationship with them is a different question. >> and that was just two weeks ago that he made those comments. feels like a lifetime ago. >> truth serum would be difficult if washington. everyone would lose their jobs if everyone was on lie detectors. >> good to see you. thanks. thank you. markets here in the u.s. are closed today for the martin

luther king jr. holiday. but wall street's continued record run looks to be running off on the international markets. jomana, shares in asia climbed to historic highs today. how much of that is due to the bull markets here in the u.s.? >> yes, so s&p certainly had a record start to the year. actually, the strongest start of the year since 2003, already up 4%. we're looking at a 20% return for the s&p by end of february if it continues at this momentum. and overnight trading, equities with mixed. chinese equities came off a little bit as corporate bond yields moved higher with the shenzhen index down 1.8%. but the main focus was on notify and topix in japan which are back at record highs not seen since 1992. and a lot of that was on back of softbank. so the technology giant has announced that they're looking to sell about 30% of its telecom business in an ipo set to raise about $18 billion. that would be the largest ipo in

japan in the past 20 years or so. the stocks reacted very well to that news. softbank shares ended up 4% driving some of the strength in nikkei. >> ford has announced a mass i have investment in electric vehicles. what does that mean for that automaker? >> they've announced at the detroit auto show that they're going to invest $11 billion. they plan to have 40 different types of vehicles by 2022, including both hybrids and pure electric vehicles, including an suv, as well. this is a big division from the $4.5 million they had ear marked lft year. volkswagen have announced they're looking to spend $40 billion in electric vehicles. as you can see, the race for producing the best electric vehicle is very much in full gear. back to you. >> thanks so much. still ahead, everybody, the search continuing for the

>> north korea is looking to continue its conversations with the south about sending athletes to next month's winter olympics following the latest meetings between those two sides. bill, good to talk to you this morning. thanks for joining us. are leaders there open to the idea of holding another round of talks, truce village possibly? >> reporter: yeah, good morning. after last week's historic breakthrough, that historic handshake and the first talks in two years, another round today. these talks today, lower level, narrowly focussed on music. interestingly one of the four north korean delegates is the leader of a north korean all female pop band called maran bong. they're wildly popular in north korea. they sing -- well, a western style. music sometimes even disney songs. and they were discussing the possibility of that band coming here and playing some concerts.

now, there are some sensitivities. they're all from the military. they are all these five women hand picked by kim jong-un. and they often sing ballards in praise of kim jong-un. not sure how well that would go down here in seoul. that is still being discussed. within the last hour, it's been confirmed that north korea will send an orchestra of 140 members here for at least two concerts. there will be more talks to discuss the actual athletes that will be on wednesday. and they'll be talking, for example, about an all-women's ice hockey team never been had before. there's been any united korean team at a multi-sport games. but these are very, very sensitive issues. at the minute, we're just taking very, very small steps, not just toward the olympics but of course towards reconciliation. jasmine? >> we're couching our expectations. it certainly seems that some
