good morning, everybody. we again with new reports of team trump possibly trying to silence stormy daniels. buzz feed was the first to report that donald trump's lawyers are considering filing an injunction to keep the "60 minutes" interview from airing on march 18th. there has been no.response from cbs nor from the president's legal team on that matter. but in a brief interview with "the washington post" stormy daniels said, all i can say is it was never going to air tonight. i guess we'll see what happens. this comes as nbc news has learned that michael cohen used his business e-mail to arrange the personal funds for the payment and neither the trump organization nor the trump campaign reimbursed him for that

payment. cohen now tells nbc news that he uses his trump e-mail for personal and business communications and that the funds were transferred from his home equity line. here is clifford's lawyer talking to nbc's andrea mitchell. >> where do you think the money came from, do you think it came from michael cohen's personal money, donald trumps's organization or -- >> we believe we'll be able to pay this back in one form or another to a trump payment or from a surrogate for mr. trump. >> the argue considers two things, first, that the payment sought to silence the actress thus helping trump win the election. the second factor that the payment was facilitated using a trump organization e-mail address. here is how the white house is handling a scandal from the

states, frankly, is ready for it. they should be ready for it. but at a minimum, you have to give long, tough sentences. >> at that rally, president trump went heavy on what appears to be progress in the crisis with north korea ask is accepting of kim jong un's in veritation to meet. >> think of it. they're not sending missiles up. and i believe that. i believe that. i really do. i think they want to make peace. i think it's time and i think we've shown great strength. i think that's also important, right? because we go from -- a lot of people thought we were going to war. and all of a sudden, they come in and they say, we're going to have a meeting and there's no more missiles going off and they want to denuclearize. nobody heard that. nobody thought, but they said they are thinking about that. who knows what's going to happen. hey, who knows. if it happens, if it doesn't happen, i may leave fast or we may sit down and make the

the president's comments. is it going to be tough to rally voters in that district come tuesday? >> it could be. president trump, as anyone who watched the rally saw really entertained and got revved up his base in that area. the easy assumption would be that the republican wins, but the fun of elections, of course, is you don't know their outcome until the votes are counted. >> external within the margin of error the that it's gotten so close mow. >> and it's probably going to be all about turnout in in this election come tuesday. so in this stump speech on saturday, the president said his administration is considering seeking the death penalty for drug dealers. >> he's said this before. it sounds like the philippine's

president calling for vigilante's murders. at this rally, he said he isn't sure if the country is ready for it. there is obvious problems with executing drug dealers, oftentimes users are dealers themselves to support their habits. if you're talking about cutting fentanyl into drugs and killing people that way, it's unclear who actually did the cutting. there are a lot of problems. of course, there are tens of thousands of people dying of overdoses every year in the u.s. and there's, i assume, a case that at least some of them have arguably committed murder. perhaps recklessly or intention equally putting too strong of drugs into misbranded products. but this doesn't sound so much as a policy recommendation or a recommendation for legislation. this sounds like trump trying to talk tough on an issue affecting a lot of people. >> let's switch gears and talk about the big summit that is supposed to take place between trump and kim jong un. obviously, president trump saying he described it roughly

as possibly bringing the world's greatest deal to the table. what do we know about what the white house actually wants to achieve? what is the white house's starting position on all of this? some have projected this as a victory for north korea. they've always sought a high level meeting with the u.s. approximated. they are getting it without necessarily giving up this anything permanently. it almost has to be the world's greatest deal or it's not going to look good for president trump. if the meeting actually happens, trump almost has to walk away with some order of denuclearzation deal, something really big, or this is going to be something that's going to be interpreted as a victory for north korea. >> stick around for us. white house with chief of staff john kelly has called in cabinet members over the recent run of bass press. politico reports cabinet secretaries were were pushed to be more careful and to put in better checks for bad and questionable behavior. the meeting comes after months of cabinet members racking up

expensive first class travel and other lavish spending. last week, kelly met with david schulkin and told him to stop fight with staff and talking with the media. shulkin has said employees within the department of veteran affairs are trying to undermine him. speech writer david sorensen was accused of physically and verbally buing his ex-wife. he said he never saw anything off color between sorensen and his ex-wife or any evidence of his her allegations. the main governor said that he believes the white house was premature in letting sorensen go and offered him a job in his administration. soren son resigned from his position in the white house in february and has vehemently denied the allegations. still ahead, a deadly helicopter crash in new york city's east river. investigators this morning trying to determine what went

switching gears, florida's governor rick scott signed the state's a most aggressive action on gun control in decades into law. the new law raises the minimum purees chasing age for a gun to 21 years old. it imposes a three-day waiting period for new gun purchases and allows some school workers to carry guns and bans bump stocks. a little over an hour after the the bill was signed into law, as you can imagine, the nra filed a lawsuit against florida. the nra claims that the law's minimum purchasing age violates the constitutional rights of 18 to 21-year-olds to own firearms calling it, quote, a plate end violation of the second amendment. the white houses has unveiled several policy proposals focused on mental health and school safety. the trump administration said it would back plans to provide

rigorous firearms training to some personnel and formally endorsed a bill to strengthen the national federal background check system. there were few details on how it planned to provide the training. the announcement pulled back from president trump's earlier call to raise the minimum age to purees chas some guns to 21 years old. that will be shared by education secretary betsy duvoss. a senior administration official told "the washington post" that this was a state-based discussion right now and would be explored by devoss' commission. let's get a check on your weather with nbc meteorologist bill karins. >> a little for us, a lot for others. i have to find out if barnacles is here today. i'm going to hide. apologies already to the

welcome back, everybody. l it is the bottom of the hour. the the "new york times" is reporting that president trump may be adding to his legal team to help deal with bob mueller's russia probe. four people familiar with the matter tell the times that mueller met with emmet flood last week. floyd represented president bill clinton during the impeachment process. he will not replace ty cobb, but mr. cobb has told friends for weeks that he views his position as temporary and does not expect to remain in the job for many longer. the president lashed out at the story yesterday morning tweeting this. the failing "new york times" purposely wrote a false story stating that i am unhappy with my legal time team on the russia case and i am got to add another

a lawyer to help out. wrong. they have done a great job and have shown conclusively that there was no collusion with russia. the only collusion was that done by the dnc, the democrats and crooked hillary. "the wall street journal" reports that president trump's legal team has considered way toes leverage an interview with the president into special counsel robert mueller to speed up or limit the scope of his investigation. the president's legal team has considered telling mueller that trump would agree to a sit down interview based on multiple considerations, including that the special counsel committee to a day for concluded at least the trump-related portion of the investigation. one idea is to suggest a deadline of 60 days from the date of the interview, one source said. another consideration for the legal team is reaching an agreement with mueller on the scope of his questioning. a person familiar with trump's legal team process said conversations with mueller are still in the earliest stages.

what i can note that the campaign operation is, frankly, quite kwaek. that's where they have looked at outside groups to help the paid door knocker. this is a campaign that has struggled to bring much energy. they brought out eight people at one event, about the 15 people at another event. they had, besides that rally on saturday night, no other campaign events over the weekend. this is the concern for the republicans at this point is if you're in a district where mitt room heny won, john mccain won, donald trump opened up that margin of victory here. it's been represented by republican congressmen over the last 16 years. if you're potentially going to lose on tuesday in a district like this, the question is for november of 2018, where do those other races go? conor lamb is a former federal prosecutor, 33, the question, though, is to what extent is the republican party able to avoid situations like this in the future? >> it will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.

that is saccone. >> did you feel like a vote for -- aside from some people like jason, a vote for saccone is a vote for trump? >> absolutely. and a vote for lamb is a vote against trump? >> absolutely. >> have you heard from people that voted for trump in this district that are now jumping ship and now want to go vote for lamb? >> not in the circles i rub. >> and you? >> no. more the opposite. regardless of what the outcome is, i don't think if saccone wins, everybody loves trump. if lamb wins, everybody hates trump. and the national argument is, well, you know, it emboldened those who are resisting our president. >> right now, again, why i'm going to vote for sa cone is i want to see trump's agenda, given a chance. right here, right now, these eight or nine months, i can the

most effective person as a tool to get president trump's agenda through would be saccone for that reason. it's not just because he's republican. fascinating conversation there. >> yeah. so i mean, we wanted to see if this was going to be a referendum on the president. >> and the president himself suggested it was going to be -- >> well, from his perspective, it seems leak it's a referendum. or at it seems like everybody race has been a referendum. but my take, if first and foremost, they got nine months. we're going to vote in whoever they vote in and if they don't do a great job, we're going to vote again in november. this saul about turn out. what we need to remember is that -- >> as it is in so many cases. >> 70,000 more democrats are registered in this district than republicans. if they're able to get more turnout for the dem's side, it could go to connor lamb. but if you're a trump person through and through, what i saw,

you'll be voting for the republican. steve nelson, let's talk about the p.a. 18th district. if saccone loses his race tomorrow, could it have an effect on others running for re-election this year? >> it was interesting hearing the panel hearing the voters say this isn't a referendum on trump but they're voting for the republican to help trump. there have been close calls for democrats before during trump's presidency. it seems likely in my opinion that that will happen again. but if the democrat wins, maybe it doesn't necessarily mean a lot. maybe this is spun as, you know, a weak republican candidate, like a roy moore situation. but it will be interesting seeing the fallout from this and then there's the big election coming up in a couple of months. let's turn to the conversation now over gun control. so the white house yesterday

announcing this plan and then on friday florida governor rick scott signing the state's first gun control bill in decades into law breaking with the nra. with so much happening in this regard, how likely is it that we're going to see congress take note and move on the gun control bill in the coming weeks? >> it seems likely that we're going to see something, at least. there is a more modest proposal regarding the background check system. the white house had a call last night talking about different things they're going to be doing with regards to arming teachers. it seems likely that at least something will happen. but it shouldn't be a huge surprise that the white house is walking back from truthful aes far reaching comments. of course, after his talk of seizing guns without due process, there was a second amendment advocates very worried. one of them called him the gun
