♪ welcome back, everyone. joining us now from washington, d.c. with a look at axios a.m., political reporter alexi. great to have you with us on this monday morning. >> good morning. >> what is the one big thing for this morning? >> it's about bill and hillary clinton making a more aggressive return. hillary clinton is leading a meeting in new york with her on ward together group. she's trying to help teach them how to capitalize on this energy and activism we've seen since the 2016 election.

later in june, bill clinton is releasing a book titled "the president is missing." >> so let's talk about that. we do have the midterms on the horizon. how are democrats feeling about the fact that bill and hillary clinton could sort of be back in the spotlight? >> you know, i think most people are sort of sick of reliving the 2016 election, but top democrats have told axios they want new, fresher faces within the party helping folks ahead of 2020. i also think that in the metoo moment there could be problems with bill clinton helping democrats. and i think people are sick again of seeing the clintons after 2016 and they want a new generation of leaders helping out. >> not necessarily happy. >> yeah, i was going to say. let's stick with elections and talk about the midterms but from the republican side. i know that axios has new reporting by some efforts by republicans to make a new push. what's the plan with this

effort? what more can you tell us? >> sure. the nrcc helps congressional republicans across the country is launching a $60 million ad campaign to help some of the most vulnerable republicans across the country in 13 cities. it's a large amount of money for an outside group spending on digital and tv advertising and shows sort of where they're most concerned about heading into the election in november. >> so how worried are republicans feeling about potentially losing these districts going forward? >> so as i mentioned there's 13 districts they're targeting. they're being strategic in not releasing the specific districts bauds they don't want to show their cards to democrats, but they released some of the cities and areas they're targeting like d.c., virginia, detroit, minneapolis and targeting districts in which there's a republican incumbent in the district that hillary clinton has won. we've seen how republicans lost

that trump won. we expect them to go all in that hillary clinton won because they are most worried about those. >> is there indication or reporting to suggest which way the republican party is leaning on how much they want president trump to play a role come the midterms? we saw his campaign style rally in michigan with some of the messaging there? is the republican party unified how visible they want trump to be? >> that's a great question and they are not. so my colleague at axios talked to 23 of the republican vulnerable running for congress, only two said they wanted trump to come out and campaign for them. but i have spoken with folks who are familiar with the republican strategy for senate races and they have told me they are going to lean all in on president trump in their advertising and campaign. so we can see how these two strategies are different. as you said, maybe not unifying the republican party. >> so before we let you go, axios is also looking at how

climate change is always taken a backseat to other issues they say they care ability, why does this issue keep getting pushed back? >> there's a couple reasons. one is that it's sort of this long-term problem that they don't know how to approach. the second and perhaps more important issue is that under president trump and with the republican controlled congress, this issue hasn't really been prioritized. and so corporations are responding in kind by not coming to washington and prioritizing that issue. we can see them doing things outside of washington and seen state and local governments doing the same thing. but it's not becoming an issue in the capitol because they're seeing it's not a priority here. >> before we let you go, what are you looking out for this week in washington, d.c.? more fallout from the washington correspondent's dinner or what else is on your agenda you're keeping an eye on? >> i personally hope we can move past the michelle wolf
