5:00 am
a very good morning to you all of you i'm alex witt in new york at msnbc. >> i'm richard lui. it's 8:00 in the east, 5:00 out st. of course, breaking news this morning.president expected to land in singapore this hour where he will prepare for tuesday's historic summit with kim jong-un. >> a good question, how long will it take? i think within the first minute i'll know. >> how? >> just my touch, my feel. that's what i do. >> well, the north korean leader kim jong-un arrived just a few hours ago. and upon his arrival he was greeted by singapore's minister for foreign affairs before his motorcade departed for the hotel. >> we'll cover the historic news with hallie jackson at the singapore airport tracking president trump. and bill neely at the where
5:01 am
the summit will take place with kim jong-un. hallie jackson, to you first. good morning to you. what's the latest on the president's arrival? >> reporter: hey there, richard and alex, we expect it to happen within the next half hour according to the guidance from the white house. the president will pull up and land right here from air force one. let me tell you, we are packed in like sardines here. on the tarmac of singapore air business. what i'm seeing so far, it doesn't look like -- typically when the president arrives in a different country there tends to be an honor guard, a setup, a flag. but in this case, that's not necessarily what we're seeing. we do see the stairs set up ready for the president to walk down air force one. he will have what appears to be a kind of innormal meet and greet. then he'll head to the hotel fo are the night. and then a light day, meet with the singapore delegation and expect it to be prepping ahead
5:02 am
of the meeting with kim jong-un tuesday morning. singapore time which is monday night your time basically. that is going to be rather extraordinary. we're seeing kim jong-un arrive here in singapore. you saw the live shots of his motorcade going through the streets, people cheering and waving at the north korean leader. when president trump arrive, small difference, it's dark now. the sun has set. so he will said to his location. the security here is intense. there's been a lot of preparation in place over the last three weeks or so to get ready for the summit. that is actually why singapore was chosen as the location for this critical meeting. because singapore has some diplomatic relations with both countries for several decades now. you also have the physical geography where kim jong-un could actually get here in his plane. so the president has come over from the g7 in canada. that brings us, alex and richard, to the geopolitical context of this, right? when you look at what the
5:03 am
president has been doing on air force one, he's been sending tweets. these tweets are aimed at america's closest allies. typically, 2k3w78 g7 is a bear a meeting. it's the meeting the closest internationally. this is a lion's den, not a bear hug. he's departing after exchanging very harsh words with some of his u.s. allies. he's now coming to singapore to take someone who is a foe and try to find peace. it's an interesting dynamic. one that critics have questioned why he's being so nice to trends and nice to enemies. he wants to find a pact to peace. there is a sense he considers this a legacy-defining moment for him. i'll tell you it's a long way from little racket maocket man. it's a long way from fire and fury. when the president sent that
5:04 am
le letter to kim jong-un he said, thanks but no thanks. that's actually what he ended up doing, sending kim yong-chol with that letter, you'll remember. and right now, certainly back with air force one set to land here any minute, guys. so, a lot happening. a lot of interest in what could be, and what will be a historic moment. the question is, how history will judge what comes out of this. we know there are more meetings to come. the president hinted if this goes well he might invite him back to the white house in d.c. >> hallie jackson, thank you so much. >> now to nbc's chief global correspondent bill neely, he's live where the summit will take place on tuesday. bill, as we watch history unfold in front of us, we're going to hear that a lot over the next couple of days. the issue is, over the last four
5:05 am
or five hours of history, a lost of things have been sort of, well, ad hoc? >> reporter: yeah, very much so. and as donald trump was in the air, is still in the air, kim jong-un has been hard at work. he's already met singapore's prime minister, they had a meeting that broke up within the last hour. and during the meeting we saw a very relaxed kim jong-un dressed in his traditional blue suit with an interpreter at his side. he said to prime minister lee, the entire world is watching the historic summit between north korea and the united states of america. he didn't mention donald trump's name or indeed his own. but, yes, you will hear the word "historic" a lot. and possibly unknown as donald trump said yesterday before he left from quebec.
5:06 am
for kim jong-un, literally, he's never been here. it's the farthest he's ever been as leader from outside his bubble of pyongyang where he's surrounded by adoring people. he's just met his third world leader after president ji, and moon, and now the prime minister of singapore. and right here on santos island he will meet donald trump. he arrived here, of course, before mr. trump in midafternoon on an air decline plane lent to him by the chinese government. it's a plane that president ji has used. and then a he was greeted by a long convoy of officials carrying north korean officials. the interesting thing, kim jong-un has brought virtually his entire leadership here. he's brought his number two man who met donald trump a while
5:07 am
ago. he's brought his foreign minister, his army, his sister, the member of the politburo. it shows he wants to do business. this is a collective risk. it's not just kim jong-un going alone, it's the whole leadership taking a risk and meeting donald trump. he went in this huge convoy, as hallie said there was cheering, crowd smiling and waving. it must have been quite a sight for him inside that black limousine. and then he went to the luxury hotel. it appears that singapore is going to pay for his luxury suite that costs thousands of dollars. and from there, he left with 12 bodyguards we saw running alongside his car, in south korea with president moon. they were there again just a few hoyers ago. and we'll see them quite a few
5:08 am
times over the next few days. we don't know what kim jong-un is going to be doing tomorrow. presumably preparing for the summit. i've been to north korea four times. they do not issue advance timetables or itineraries about what you might be doing, or indeed what the leadership is doing. and that usually is for security reasons. and then on tuesday morning, right here at the capella hotel, just across the bay from where i'm standing, the two men will meet, and interestingly reuters news agency is reporting that kim jong-un is scheduled to leave five hours after the summit begins. now, we don't know if that's true. nbc news can't confirm that. but, of course, even if it is accurate, it can be changed, because donald trump has talked about a meeting that might go on for eye a day. might go on for moon. president moon of south korea himself is pretty desperate to get here. and be part of some great
5:09 am
possibly peace initiative which would end the korean war technically is still happening. a lot of surprises possibly. we had one a few hours ago. we didn't expect live pictures of kim jong-un meeting singap e singapore's prime minister. i suspect there will be a lot of unscripted moments in the day to come. >> alex, this is kind of like a foreign super bowl. play by play with developments and you'll be in for us along with hallie jackson. bill neely, thank you so much. joining us profrl of korean studies sung-yoon lee. and senior fellow of the american federation of scientists. we're going to begin with you, sung-yoon, with north korean neighbors, china japan and south korea, all as bill neely was saying they have a shared interest in the denuclearization
5:10 am
of the peninsula. but what role will the nations play in these talks, if any? >> they will play supporting roles. and i've seen this movie before, namely in 2000 when kim jong-un came out of his shell, the father, that is, in may made his first visit to beijing, meeting with the chinese leader. the next month he met with the south korean leader. in july, he met with vladimir putin. an sent a special enjoy to bill clinton and received secretary of state madeleine albright in pyongyang. then next january in 2001, he paid another visit to south korea to the southern province of guangdong. and he came across as a global statesman who is genuinely interested in following along in chinese footsteps that is, gradual reform and opening. so i foresee kim jong-un meeting with prime minister abe,
5:11 am
president putin in the next few weeks or months. perhaps even speaking at the u.n. general assembly and when kim jong-un visits that special economic zone in china, the world will hail the arrival of the reasonable peace-seeking north korean. it's all a grand ploy. and i think everyone is just falling into his elaborate trap, especially donald trump. >> sung-yoon, that's pretty dramatic rhetoric you're using when you say it's a grand ploy and a dramatic trap. at what point, in your estimation, would you think that your ideology would become apparent? i mean, how long do you expect this all to play out? >> well, what are we talking about here in singapore. why are the two people there? to talk about nuclear negotiations. nuclear diplomacy in terms of international politics. it's really international politics played at the highest level, short of waging war, or
5:12 am
negotiating peace in the middle of war. it's -- at the risk of sounding a discourteous, it's not like negotiating quid pro quo or neither person is negotiating to buy a house. it's serious business. and to presume that a state like north korea that has to contends with a far more successful, far for richer korean state across the border that has spent five decades trying to develop a bomb. will all of a sudden have a change of heart and give it up, i think that's a fallacy. >> alex, i think what we're seeing here, certainly more activity at the paya lebar air base. that is the foreign minister of singapore who also greeted kim jong-un, the foreign minister of hours ago, he's had a busy evening, shall we say, moving
5:13 am
from this air force base to meet president trump when he does arrive. it may portend as hallie was telling us that air force one would arrive very soon. i was wonderingf it was the prime minister that would not be the equal-equal, right? >> right. >> so we might see air force one touch down very quickly. let's get to sumi terry now. thank you for standing by. as we look at the liv pictures at the moment, and alex may underline that point, it needs to be equal, right? that is the emphasis of why they're staying at two different hotels and why they're meeting at a neutral location, the island, a smaller island all of the bigger island which really isn't that big to begin with. but still another neutral location. but at the same time, this is exactly what kim jong-un wanted, right? he wanted to have that equity with the united states. and in the event, if he does leave five hours after the
5:14 am
meeting, sue, he does come out a winner, he's got his photo op?a for himself as you said, he's now be looking as a world leader that's equal to the united states. this is why he wants everything to be equal. you can't have a foreign minister greet one and not another. this is exactly what north korea wants and why president trump sitting down and meeting with kim jong-un he's giving him that legitimacy, before we begin this tough negotiation that professor lee was just laying out for you guys. >> sue, it's alex here. if the reuters reports are correct and kim jong-un plans to leave at 2:00 p.m. local time on tuesday that is a previous five-hour potential. not even, frankly, by the time you have security and making your way out of the airport to take off. do you think that time allotment has been adjusted at all to allow for the wording and the
5:15 am
expectations of our president who has said he just feels like this is, in some ways, i'm not trying to downplay it, but in some ways a meet and greet. he is getting a chance to know him. get a feel for things. but the actual nuts and bolts of trying to negotiate a treaty based around a very complicated effort of denuclearization. and what that even means on both sides. is there a chance that kim jong-un has been reactingo this president and saying, look, i'm only going to stay five hours because that's what this president has indicated this is all about. >> it's true. after president trump really raised the bar and raised the expectation that he can somehow get north korea to reverse their nuclear program they has lowered the bar to say this is a phased approach, meet and greet and so on. i think trump has matched the
5:16 am
rhetoric. but we'll see, they could have a second day of meeting because this schedule can be changed very easily. >> okay. sue, i'm going to ask you to stand by, as well as sung-yoon and adam mount. all stay with us because we're going to take a very quick commercial break. we don't expect the president to land in a few minutes and a commercial break. also all of you watching for "politics nation," the reverend al sharpton will certainly be back here next sunday morning. all of the events in singapore have prompted this special coverage. >> that's right. we're waiting for president trump you can see the live pictures there. 8:16 in the meeting. the latest preparations that will be after the break, especially the drama that at the g7. plenty of that. you wouldn't accept an incomplete job

5:20 am
we're getting out of here. you're welcome. run! holy! this is gonna be awesome. rated pg-13. 20 past the hour, everyone. i'm alex witt here at msnbc world headquarters with my colleague richard lui. all eyes on that spot, the paya lebar air force base in singapore. we expect the president to touch down on air force one, three, four minutes from now. >> alex, when we started this hour, it was not even close to this number of people standing in front. and earlier in the morning as well. if there's any indication, we expect that to happen. we have our entire team covering this story from nbc, as well as msnbc. part of that team kelly
5:21 am
o'donnell also covering the story, kelly, what do you know in terms of when the president might be landing? i know that's not necessarily something that we have all the details on. >> reporter: well, there are certain limitations on what the reportable schedule is. >> right. >> reporter: so, we can't give extreme specifics. we know it's in the next several minutes. that's part of the typical securities protocol. obviously, once the plane touches down here in singapore, it will be visible on camera. you'll see the ceremonial welcome. you've talked about the need for parity here where the president will be joined by the prime minister -- >> and, kelly -- and, kelly, the president is also settling in and about to touch down. it looks like it has touched down, everyone. air force one, safely having landed there at that air base. the paya lebar air base in
5:22 am
singapore. kelly, we will go back to you. we just want to let people know what we're seeing there. it is wheels down for air force one. >> reporter: well, this is a historic moment for president trump who has had a packed few days. we've seen how he interacted with leaders of the g7. those are among the united states closest friends and that was contentious and equivalendin his way leaving from canada, he referred to this as a very big trip. clearly his focus has been the meeting with north korea. in part because the president has tried to separate himself from predecessors, not only president obama, but as he said, going back as much as decades with relationships the united states has had with north korea that have been fraught with tension and conflict and hostility. and he is saying he's doing it a different way. there are critics who say the president, by agreeing to have this meeting with kim jong-un is giving the north korean leader a win, simply by appearing
5:23 am
shoulder to shoulder with the american president. the mr. trump said that is something that haters are saying. he believes that there is a lot to gain. and he says the unistates has given nothing so far. and has already received the return of three american citizens who had been improperly detained in north korea. he believes there's potential for an agreement here. he said at the same time, he will assess this within a minute or so, a gut-check moment when he meets kim jong-un. he says if he does not sense seriousness on the part of north korea, he's prepared to walk away. the white house is also prepared to stay. and stay a little longer. they've got fluidity in the schedule. there's a one-day meeting set but there's some time that they can expand that. the president has said repeatedly he says it may take more than one meeting and perhaps more than one day in this initial session. it's important to note that singapore has diplomatic relationships with both north korea and the united states.
5:24 am
that made it a good site for this. and also, this is the farthest that kim jong-un has traveled outside his home country since he took power. the american president, of course, travels around the world all the time. but for president trump, this has also been a very long journey. and it is the kind of setup where the president has said he's been preparing his whole life. his team has said they have been preparing him on the subject matter. we know from all of our teams reporting that kim jong-un is truly an expert on his own nuclear program. so there are questions about the kind of detail they'll be getting into. also in recent days, over the last week or two, there have been initial meetings going on, we've seen secretary of state pompeo has met with kim jong-un twice. and then negotiators for the united states representing the state department, the department of defense and the national security council have been meeting with their north korean counterparts to go over a lot of sort of the entry level subject matter to refine what the two
5:25 am
leaders will talk about. often leaders come in only at the end of the process. this is different. alex. >> kelly, you mentioned the president's preparation. and that been something that people have sort of wondered. based on the president's own statements which you are quoting of him when he tox about getting a feel for things and he'll know within the first minute or so how things are going to go. look, the president had a very long journey from quebec to get here. refueling only once on the way. there were no pictures of that, of course. but the president needs to get shut-eye. has the white house put out what was happening on board air force one, to the extent that the president was using if at all the time on air force one to prepare. if this meeting is not until tuesday if that may be topic "a" tomorrow in singapore? >> reporter: well, certainly, there will be more time for the president to go over specifics for the meeting. there's been some tension on this issue because the president has clearly wanted to show that he is bringing a lifetime of
5:26 am
experience as a dealmaker, as he likes to describe it, to this kind of meeting. and that, agency he would say, he had an ability to bring this to fruition. and because of the maximum pressure campaign which meant sanctions and really the hostile talk towards north korea. >> okay. >> reporter: to sort of force north korea to want to have this meeting -- >> kelly -- could -- kelly, thank you for that. we're going to hallie jackson covering the actual arrival. >> reporter: kim jong-un is already on the ground. he's met with the singaporean delegation. president trump is expected to do that tomorrow. then we expect for much of the day, he'll number prep, holding briefings with his top staff include national security advice john bolton who traveled here to singapore ahead of these discussions. we know the big moment will be tuesday morning when these two leaders come face-to-face publicly for the first time. it is an interesting contrast,
5:27 am
really, given where the president just came from, that's quebec, canada, from the g7. traditionally, a bear hug. america and its closest allies coming together but this time, president trump was in the lion's den, and on his way here to singapore, he aimed really tough talk, for example, canadian prime minister justin trudeau concerned over trade issues he has with the g7 allies raising among the critics. and why the president is talking so tough among our friends and yet trying to find common ground in somebody who is long considered an enemy in kim jong-un. so, when you step back that is the broader geopolitical context. we have come a long way, willie, president trump remembered a couple weeks ago, called the whole thing off, if you want to tone down the rhetoric, i'm
5:28 am
paraphrasing, sure enough, kim jong-un did sending the letter over with his right-hand man kim yong-chol, willie, just 48 hours away. >> let's go to bill neely on sentosa island. that is right where the pivotal meeting is taking place. as we thank hallie jackson for that report. bill, talk about the setup there? talk about security there. it's got to be extraordinary. and one of the biggest things to ever happen on this particular island. it's a resort island, we're told. you can confirm that in terms of securities? >> reporter: yeah, it is. this is the biggest security operation in singapore's history. this is a secure city state. almost boarding on authoritarian, a kind of place where if you want a protest on the street or any kind of a demonstration, you have to apply
5:29 am
for police position. and here there's been a lockdown on sentosa island for the last 18 to 24 hours we've had apache helicopter information the air. we've had f-16 fighter jets in the air. when the summit takes place on tuesday, there will be air restrictions for aircraft coming into singapore. you could say that this very, very small city state of 5 million people will be in lockdown. and the two leaders are now here. they have come far further than they ever thought they would. both literally and politically, for this summit. and they are now closer than they have ever been before. both literally and perhaps politically. although we'll find out a lot more about that on tuesday. because they both say that they want a deal. they both say they want to talk about the denuclearization of the korean peninsula. but we don't know if they will, because quite frankly, we
5:30 am
haven't got an agenda. no agenda has been published. we really don't have a clue what they're going to talk about in full on tuesday. although donald trump said before he left quebec, that all issues will be on the table. he said that in direct answer -- >> and -- >> reporter: about human rights will you bring up human rights abuses. i think we're going to see donald trump right now on air force one. >> that's right, bill. just popping in there, to announce to folks that are watching us. we see the president coming down, leaving the plane. probably after, for the first time, 20 hours. >> long trip. >> yeah, it was a long trip. along with the stops. and he's being greeted by the foreign minister all the right there, and then he will make it on to the beast, as it's so-called. and then head to what we believe his hotel, the shangri-la hotel. interestingly, as you were making a note, bill, the closest
5:31 am
they've ever been. they're actually putting their heads to pillows not more than three minutes away from each other. they're staying at different hotels. and then they'll be driving probably to where you're at 30 or 40 minutes, right? sentosa island which is kind of like a disney world right off the coast there of singapore. the main island. and we see president trump now getting into the beast. and no doubt, his entourage will follow thereafter. one note here, bill, as we've been focusing on how each leader has arrived and has been treated. the call, for instance, that kim jong-un arrived in rented the 747, air china. certainly not air force one. and then the decision for air force one to arrive at the singaporean air force base. and air china 747 at the commercial airport there. do we have any back ground on any of this?
5:32 am
or is this just as a way of learning it, we're learning it? >> reporter: i think you could say, perhaps, the white house wants to put a little bit of distance between its arrival and kim jong-un's rivaarrivrivaarr . i say looking at the pictures they look similar. the beast, as you call it is a high-performance vehicle, can withstand just about everything. to the casual observer it will look very much like the stretch mercedes that kim jong-un arrived in. in terms of optics, perhaps kim jong-un is desperate to appear donald trump equal. just going back to that summit with president moon in south korea, you remember the 90 choreography, you remember when they mets at the dmz, they crossed the line.
5:33 am
and then kim jong-un pulled president moon back into north korea. that was an unscripted moment. spontaneous and hugely popular on both sides of the border. dough the diplomatic dance, if you like, has always been important at every summit. cast your mind back a few hours to the quebec g7 summit. and some of those extraordinary images as donald trump sitting with his arms crossed as all of the other european and japanese leaders crowded around him, seeming to be at odds with him. >> yeah. >> reporter: you know that image matters. image matters to western leaders. it matters especially to kim jong-un. remember, he is doing something here, his father, and his grandfather, the founder of north korea could not do, could not get, a meeting with an american president. all they've ever wanted was that meeting. all they've ever craved from the united states was respect. so, it could be going back to your initial question that kim
5:34 am
jong-un wants to build himself up and the way he looks and the 12 bodyguards running beside his limousine, in all of that, as an equal leader. equal with donald trump. >> bill neely, thank you so much for that. do stand by. we'll get back to you later. >> we sure thewill. let's get to nbc's lester holt. lester, long way from singapore. you were on the ground in south korea, that was in april last year. you were on the ground in north korea in january of this year. so, you know the environment. you've -- you've felt it yourself. talk about the importance of what is happening. and how this feels for the people there, the kind of response you got to what could potentially happen with the conversation at least that would move things forward between the
5:35 am
two leaders? >> well, i'll tell you, watching president trump walk off air force one a moment ago, i was simply struck by how swiftly and dramatically things have turned. i've made four trips to the korean prince oveninsula over t 14 months. we sent near the dmz on a hair trigger, ready to fight, that's their slogan. we were going to do "nightly news" and word got that north korea was going to launch another missile. we've been in the command center, we got rare access where the missile launches are monitored. and decided whether they were a threat to north korea or anywhere else. and november last year, icbm launched by north korea. and here we are, in january, my team and i went to north korea, really looking back at this charmed offensive. they were beginning to make statements about participating in the olympics. they took its to a place where
5:36 am
their team was going to train with the south korean team. so, we knew things were beginning to happen. they wanted to show us a more modern side of north korea. and then of course, the olympics. and everything has moved toward this moment since january. they are in the same city tonight. tonight, they will be sleeping in hotels exactly a half mile apart. and this, 9:00 p.m. eastern time monday, they will sit face-to-face and talk. face-to-face about the future of north korea's nuclear program. it's amazing. >> it is extraordinary. and, lester, specific to -- i recall you and your small team that was allowed to go with you into north korea. you met with north korean leaders. i'm curious what the tenor of that conversation was like? i know there were no cameras. but talk about what you gleaned from that. >> it still rings in my head. we were invited to the foreign ministry. we sat down with a senior
5:37 am
official. we were told it was a meet and greet. what it really was was a lecture. and a message that he wanted us to take back to the u.s. which was north korea is now a nuclear power. the u.s. and the rest of the world will have to come to grimes with that. that was the message. again that was january. here we are in june, and kim jong-un by all accounts is ready to talk about denuclearization. i went know where he wants to go on that, say time line. what that means. but the fact that title, that subject, is on the agenda, after what we have witnessed -- as i said, it's truly remarkable. but it's going to happen. they're here now and it will happen. >> it absolutely will. as you were there along the dmz, do you get a sense that those soldiers on both sides with whom you were able to be in touch, is there any sort of easing of the tensions in their minds? are they standing as upright and as vigilant as ever? >> well, when i was in south
5:38 am
korea with the u.s. forces, keep in mind that was a little over a year ago. so, obviously, a very tense situation. knowing wh i know and observing what i observed, i would think that there role hasn't changed at all. they do what they do. the diplomacy is going on. they're following the news. but, still, north korea has intercontinental ballistic missile. and north korea has nuclear wednesday. that wasn't changed. neither has the posture of the 20,000 u.s. forces and forces that continue to watch and monitor those launch sites day in and day out. >> lester, is there genuine hope, you believe with the people of south korea, in particular, those of whom you spoke with during your four trips to the korean peninsula, is there genuine hope that something will happen of substance here? or are people skeptical? i'm curious what the
5:39 am
expectations are of the people? >> let me turn that upside down. there have been many times that north korea seemed like it was pushing and being provocative towards the edge of war. my understanding the young people it never really bothered. it was background noise. when were we over there the beginning of last year, it was beginning to rattle people. the language was so fierce. they were getting used to our president, whose language was bellicose on this subject. and it was a widening concern, certainly. one thing that strikes you when you go to seoul and the military bases, you realize how close these millions of people are to the dmz, in the range of -- not nuclear weapons, although they are, but artillery pointed right at them. so, the feel has always been even if it comes to war, no one could win this. the loss of life would be so
5:40 am
dramatic. so certainly, the people of south korea have watched their own leader. president moon, may ultimately, if something happens here, he may be the one that gets the most credit. he came in as a liberal candidate. a human rights lawyer. this was his mission to create some sort of dialogue with kim jong-un. he did. and many people look at that and say maybe he's the guy that ignited the spark that could lead to something big. >> sage and experienced thoughts from you, our friend, lester holt, "nbc nightly news." we look forward to seeing you in the next couple days as well. >> alex, just context there, right? there's a generation that fought that war, the korean war, now he's putting that in context for us what that might mean for the 80 or 90-year-old veterans that are watching history, maybe, maybe, finally make an important turn. we're going to take a quick break. after the break, we're going straight back to singapore. chief correspondent hallie
5:41 am
jackson there as well, at the air force base where air force one touched down. we'll go to her, after this. i'm ray and i quit smoking with chantix.

in the movies, a lot of times, i tend to play the tough guy. but i wasn't tough enough to quit on my own. not until i tried chantix. chantix, along with support, helps you quit smoking. it reduced my urge to smoke to the point that i could stop. when you try to quit smoking, with or without chantix, you may have nicotine withdrawal symptoms. some people had changes in behavior or thinking, aggression, hostility, agitation, depressed mood, or suicidal thoughts or actions with chantix. serious side effects may include seizures, new or worse heart or blood vessel problems, sleepwalking or allergic and skin reactions which can be life-threatening. stop chantix and get help right away if you have any of these. tell your healthcare provider if you've had depression or other mental health problems. decrease alcohol use while taking chantix. use caution when driving or operating machinery. the most common side effect is nausea. my favorite role so far? being a non-smoker. no question about it. talk to your doctor about chantix.
