i heard for two years it existed and once i heard it for myself, it was confirmed what i feared the most, that donald trump is a con and has been masquerading as someone who is actually open to engaging with diverse communities. but when he talks that way, the way he did on this tape, it confirmed that he is truly a racist. >> why didn't you get that in your book? >> it closed too soon and i have been tracking, tracking. this person is so afraid because of the forces who are working to keep this tape from coming out. then there's omarosa talking about her firing by white house chief of staff john kelley. the stunning part of this part of the story is not the firing but that she was able to record it, allegedly, happening in the white house, in the situation room. here is part of that tape. >> there are pretty significant legal issues that we hope don't develop into something that -- that'll make it ugly for you.

confidentiality is implied. >> joining us washington correspondent, enez. thank you for being here. omarosa's ability to tape a conversation with the chief of staff, general john kelly, in the secure room, in the situation room, one has to ask what is happening with security protocols and what more there might be. >> this is a huge deal that can't be understated. the fact these recordings exist at all and the fact they were taken inside the situation room is shocking. it is supposed to be one of the most secured places within the white house. so the fact it is happening inside the situation, certainly raises questions about national security and about where else people might be bringing in recording devices to record conversations without other people knowing about it. omarosa may have broken the law by doing this. you can't just bring a recording device in the situation room and record people speaking. let's not forget there's a reason these laws are in place,

a reason you can't do it, and that's to keep america safe and ensure foreign powers aren't using these recording devices and hacking in to gain access to classified information. >> you know, part of this as we look at it, there's the legal issues that general kelly in the recording is alluding to, right? and number two, what you're bringing, she bringing a recording device into the situation room that could intimate legal jeopardy. >> absolutely. you are not allowed to do that. another point i want to make and something worth remembering is that the president himself has kind of shown a blatant disregard for certain national security protocols. remember, he has been known to use a phone that's not fully secure and experts believe is at risk for hacking and undermined places like the cia and fbi. i think when you have that top-down, kind of disregard for national security protocols it

is not setting the right example for the staffers. >> and taking a step back, what is the control system like right now. if you have a taping going on like this, someone has to ask what is the chief of staff doing. >> that's right. there's been reports that the trump administration is looking into kind of legal proceedings to maybe try to stop omarosa from releasing additional recording, to maybe punish her for making these recordings to begin with and stop her from releasing additional recordings which she claims to have. we will have to see if they take legal action, but if i had to venture a guess i would guess probably not. i feel like what we've seen in recent months is any kind of effort on behalf of the administration to stop people from speaking out, whether, you know, with non-disclosure agreements or hush payments, that hasn't worked out. so i don't think they're going to venture down that path. >> i guess not taping very -- in very secure areas in the white house is so 2017, right? >> right. >> exactly. thank you so much, my friend. i will speak to you later. on the first anniversary of the

deadly charlottesville protest, thousands of anti-hate protesters out numbered the rally steps away from the white house. it was a gathering aimed to bring together multiple white national organizations including neo nazis. the group was met by thousands of chanting counter-protesters at lafayette park across from the white house. meanwhile, in charlottesville people gathered for the one-year mark of the deadly clashes and to pay respects to heather heyer, a civil rights activist who was killed last year after a man drove a car into a crowd. president trump, who was criticized for saying both sides shared the blame for the violence last year on saturday tweeting, the riots in charlottesville a year ago resulted in senseless death and division. we must come together as a nation. i condemn all times of racism and acts of violence. peace to all-americans. well, european and asia stocks are falling this morning as relations between nato allies, the united states and turkey continue to plummet.

on friday president trump tweeted, i have just authorized daubling of tariffs on steel and aluminum with respect to turkey as their currency, the turkish lira, slides downward against our strong dollar. aluminum now will be 20% and steel 50%. our relations with turkey are not good at this time. well, 12 hours after the president's sudden twitter announcement, the commerce department weighed in with secretary wilbur ross writing in a statement in part, quote, since the imposition of the section 232 tariff in march, exports to the united states have lined and domestic capacity utilization has increased, but not to levels sufficient to remove the threat to national security. doubling the tariff on imports to turkey will further reduce the imports that the department felt threatened to impair national security. less than three weeks ago trump threatened, quote, large sanctions on turkey for ankara's ongoing detainment of pastor

brunson. the lira continued to collapse, hitting new record lows. the dow jones dropped 200 points on the fear that it would impact global markets. in speeches on friday, president erdogan said threatening blackmailing language and bullying will not cut it. he called on turks to sell their gold and possessions to buy lira. meanwhile, the president is not only continuing his attacks on one of america's most well-known companies, but he appears to be actively promoting its downfall, tweeting yesterday morning, quote, many harley-davidson owners plan to boycott the company if manufacturing moves overseas. great. most other companies are coming in our direction, including harley competitors. a really bad move. u.s. will soon have a level playing field or better.

i'm richard louie alongside louis bergdorf. it is the bottom of the hour. president trump once again attacking attorney general jeff sessions. in a series of tweets on saturday, the president criticized sessions while also slamming christopher steele, the former british intelligence officer who authored an opposition research dossier on trump and former associate attorney general bruce ohr. he tweeted, the many meetings with deputy ag bruce ohr and his beautiful wife nellie. fusion gps hired him to write the phoney dossier paid for by crooked hillary and the dnc. do you believe nellie worked for fusion and her husband still works for the department of justice? our ag is scared stiff and missing in action. it is all starting to be reveal. not pretty. ig report soon.

witch-hunt. according to jonathan swann of axios, session does not use twitter and has no tv in his office. sources who work for him says he tries as best he can to tune out trump's attacks. they seem to genuinely bother him at first, but over time aides said it appeared he had grown desensitized to them. all right. president trump's lawyer rudy guilliani is now claiming that special counsel robert mueller told him he would complete his probe into possible obstruction of justice by september 1st. here is what guilliani had to say yesterday. >> september 1st was the date bob mueller gave me two months ago when we were talking about getting his report done. he threw out the date of september 1st as a reasonable date to get it done. maybe i credit it too much. i thought he meant, well, that will keep us clear of the elections. they did say something like they didn't want to repeat some of the mistakes comey made. >> in an interview with the

"wall street journal", guilliani said, quote, we certainly won't do an interview after september 1st because we're not going to be the ones to interfere with the election. let him, mr. mueller, get all of the bad publicity and the attacks for that. meanwhile, trump's legal team is also preparing to counter mueller should he issue a report on the president's actions, even a critical one. guilliani told "the journal," quote, i would take that. he went on to say, a negative report gets it over with. we can answer it with, i think, a better report from us. and then we get to wait and see what happens in congress. and rudy guilliani seemed to contradict himself yesterday. he said that president trump and former fbi director james comey never discussed former national security adviser mike flynn. but guilliani and other trump officials previously indicated that the president did, in fact, discuss flynn with comey. here is what guilliani had to say yesterday followed by comments that he made back in

quetara. thanks for sticking around. what is president trump's end game as you continues that attack against him own attorney general? >> so poor jeff sessions, right? scared stiff and missing in action, some of the harshest words the president has used with regards to jeff sessions. that's really saying something given the repeated attacks on jeff sessions over the last few months, over the last 18 months, just over and over again attacks on jeff sessions. we know the president is not pleased with sessions recusing himself from the russia probe. the end game i think is obaviou, is trump trying to pressure sessions and get him to step down. he has called on sessions to put an end to the russia probe, of course, as sessions can no longer do that. only rod rosenstein can do that. trump obviously aware of that. i think the end game is for sessions to resign. >> pointing towards the end game, september 1st according to rudy guilliani in terms of a potential sitdown happening or not and on that very topic,

chris trow writes in, the president is merely a citizen entrusted with high office. while the courts must pay due deference to the president's constitutional responsibilities, he is no more entitled to ignore the laws or ignore a court order than any other citizen. like any other citizen, he has a duty to respond to a grand jury subpoena. giving evidence before the grand jury is occasionally stressful and sometimes embarrassing, but essentially simple, tell the truth. should special counsel robert mueller here play hardball, absolutely challenge the rule of law here to get the details as trow is saying here? >> i believe mueller will play hardball. he takes his work extremely seriously, who wants to get to the bottom of the investigation no matter what it takes, who is not going to strike a deal with the president to appease the

president. i think he really will do what it takes to get to the bottom of this investigation. the argument is that, you know, a trump/mueller confrontation could wind up strengthening american institutions but it could be good for america in the same way, you know, everything that happened with nixon and watergate was good for america as well and it showed nobody is above the law, that even the president is not above the law. so people saying, you know, many saying that a trump/mueller confrontation would result in doing that, others saying, you know, a trump/mueller deal could also end up being mueller rewarding bad behavior on behalf of the president, and by all accounts mueller is not somebody who will be looking to do that. >> interesting narrative there, saying, let's have our constitutional confrontation now. thank you so much on this monday morning. the white house is reacting to the claim by omarosa manigault newman she made a secret recording of her firing from the trump administration in the most secure room in the white house. the revelation of that recording

announced he is suspending his reelection campaign days after being formally charged with insider trading and lying to the fbi. collins, the first member of congress to endorse donald trump's presidential bid, made the announcement on saturday after previously saying he would remain on the ballot. in a statement, collins said he would not resign immediately but would instead finish out his term. the republican added, quote, that democrats would like nothing more than to elect and ee wee impeach trump democrat in this district, which is something neither the country nor my party can afford. he is accused of working with his son and the father of his son's fiance to avoid significant losses on an investment in an australian biotechnology company. all three pled not guilty to the charges. it is unclear at this point if collins, who represents new york's 27th district encompassing the buffalo area, would be able to remove his name from the ballot this late in the
